2 Beavers is Company; 3 Beavers is a Crowd!

The beaver we call ChewBarka and one of his two year olds were grooming side-by-side on the riverbank. Eventually, they started grooming each other’s fur. A third beaver approached, and I snapped the photo as they were checking each other out. I believe the third beaver may have been a dispersed two-year-old coming through the territory in search of a mate. The two younger beavers swam off together and over the next hour until I went home they interacted cautiously. It seemed like they weren’t family, but also did not consider each other enemies. Of course, that is pure speculation on my part, but it’s possible this was the beginning of a courtship. #wildlifephotography #beaver #beavers
