I raised two myself about twenty years ago. There is virtually no way not to get attached. They are so intelligent. It literally broke my heart to release them. I went back a couple of weeks later to check to see if they were ok. When they saw me, they ran up to me and crawled into my lap clinging to me and calling to me. It DESTROYED me. I sobbed all the way home. Watching this video brought it all back to me. I loved the job, but it takes a toll on you emotionally to do what is best for the animals.
Not literally...
Sorrry. I don't know what you are referencing.@@JeffC-fq1be
sure, physically, they may have been fine but their emotional health matters too. It would be wrong to say it doesn't. Some wild animals are fine to go. Some can't wait to go. Before we domesticated dogs and cats, they lived their hard scrabble lives..."wild and free"...surviving. Now, it's considered cruel to abandon them. (I agree) People have pigs as pets. Unheard of-ish 30-ish years ago. Release them, sure, eventually they'll Have to do what they Have to do to survive. Live creatures enjoy comfort. Homeless people aren't "wild and free" and beavers are doing their best with their little hands to actually build homes.
This in no way means that I think regular people should start grabbing wildlife. Absolutely not. I can't stand people that try to keep them as pets but a real rehabber that questions whether or not they should release an animal, because they feel the animal would be better off should be able give themselves and the animals some leeway.
I couldn't agree more. In fact, after raising hundreds of animals over fifty years, I have reached the conclusion that "imprinting" is NOT a thing, anymore than they imprint on all of their own species in the wild. They may have imprinted on ME, but they certainly didn't imprint on ALL humans by any stretch of the imagination. So I never bothered to distance myself from them as babies. They needed all the nurturing and comfort I could give them. As far as releasing them, if you want to know if they want to go free. Allow them to come and go as they please. That's what I did with most of mine. Not one ever stayed. Some stayed for a year or two. Some established populations in the area, but none maintained a relationship with me. Wild aimals never CHOOSE to be domesticated. I don't just drive out and throw out the animals willy nilly and say, "live free". I spend many, many hours choosing an ideal place for them to be as safe as possible and to thrive. I'm lucky that that place just happens to be my land many times, depending on the species, and I have many people who believe in what I am doing that offer their lands. Even so, the wilderness is not a safe place. I'm under no illusion that many of them live to a ripe old age. I do know, however, that they certainly lived longer, happier lives than they would have had I not intervened. I REAL rehabber does what is best for the animal, not what makes themselves feel better. FYI, many homeless people DO consider themselves "wild and free". I've worked with our local population for over three decades. We have programs in place to get them housing, food and jobs. More turn me down than accept the help. They will tell you straight up that they prefer to go and do what they choose even if it means not knowing where their next meal is coming from or whether they have a roof over their heads. I've learned not to make assumptions about people or animals and not to force my beliefs on them. Love them where they are and let them choose their own path.@@t181920c
@@penopio Wow, you are so lovely and loving and kind! 🥰
I have to admire Nibi's healthy sense of work-life balance.
😍 You're right! 😄 Just tooo sweet!! haha
@Lucy in the Sky Exactly! There's a time for everything, and she knows her priorities lol
we could all learn from Nibi!
@@rroscop I'd attend her seminars tbh.
I thought the same! She could teach humans a thing or two ;)
The more I see of humans befriending, rescuing, helping & caring for wild animals, the more I think this is how the world is supposed to be. Imagine if our entire world was focused on being guardians & protectors for other creatures & living things. How special & wonderful a place it would be
Agreed...seems like a lot of humans would rather kill and destroy.
I think that's how it used to be for most traditional peoples that lived in close contact with nature. Even if they did hunt, they did it respectfully.
@@beatrizbecker3728So Europeans. Kind of like, the exact same race who are the ones taking care of animals to this day, unlike the rest of the world.
This video gives me hope for humanity especially when I think that human are the most cruel and destructive creatures on earth
What a beautiful comment.🌺💖🌺
she wasn’t even socialized around other beavers and she knows what beavers do. amazing
Do you know what the word 'instinct' means?
It's like how birds make nests or spiders make webs. They don't learn, they're just born capable of doing it. That's the power of nature my friend.
It's in their genes!!
@@solomonmendonca3223 It doesn't mean programed genes...
@@solomonmendonca3223 Plenty of animals need to be taught necessary things. Don't denigrate.
Nibi arranging the sticks made me think that, despite the fact that she's been raised by a human, her beaver instinct is strrroooong
well duh
Where’d you get a wild idea like that from a specific spot in the video that played twice?
Instincts are part of the brain's base development. They don't go away.
Yep. It's hard wired into her.
Gestalt response it’s called. Other animals have if too for various things.
Nibi appears to be an engineering savant! She instinctively builds dams in exterior doorways. Looks like your house will be ready to withstand HURRICANE season.
😂❤❤
HAHAHAHAJAHAHA
Perhaps she's getting ready for the zombies. _"Gotta block these doors... NOW!!"_
@@hlcepeda We had a Labrador who would always sleep by the front or back doors. When we went on holiday he would do the same thing. Gotta block those doors indeed!
🤣 🤣 🤣
One of the most important animals to the worlds ecosystems. I never realized how cute they were as babies.
Beavers don’t inhabit the whole world.
This is what the world needs more of, kindness.
My heart goes out to the rescuer who has to keep emotional distance from adorable, lovable Nibi. That can't be easy! What a special person she is. I like these channels for showing some of the "unsung heroes" among us. And the critters are always so adorable 😍
Yes!
It really takes a special someone to do this type of thing. Like you said it's a real treat being able to have a glimpse into their lives. Huge love to all the rescuers and fosterers out there 🥰
Was just thinking that as well. She's a badass, because there's just no way I'd be able to do that. Thankfully there's people like her on this planet.
Among us.
..
Nibi has stick arranging in her DNA. So precious that she separates her toys from sticks. So cute.
MUST... PUT... STICK... ooh a toy i put that here now... MUST... PUT... STICK...
@@parkman29 That's why we dont let boys and girls sleep in the same room
Other rescue beavers wont do that. You can find videos of them building dams out of toys, pillows, shoes, phones .... this one seems to have amore solid instinct doing so even though she was rescued at a very low age.
They commonly build dams where they hear running water though.
Around the washing machine, on bathroom door, on walls with pipes in them.
Beaver specialists even mislead wild beavers by setting up speakers with water noise, so they will dam the speaker instead of damming the brook and flooding nearby human cellars.
Beaver art. if some human did it badly, it would be worth millions. Nibi does it, like a pro and it has no value?
It's called Inner Intelligence. Unfortunately, most humans don't have it (also known as instinct or common sense)
Lucky for this beaver that the right human found her. Hope she does return to the wild.
The excited hopping is just like the popcorning that guinea pigs do! So cute.
I was thinking that too! Reminds me of the binkying rabbits do too 🥰🥰 I love seeing them all ecstatic and hyper! 🥹🥹
I thought the same!
“Loving her unselfishly” - what a beautiful phrase. Thank you for all the good work you do!👏
these videos make me sad because most of the animals released end up dying. survival rate for these rehabbed animals is very low, they should just reach out to sanctuaries when applicable.
@@jp-sn6si
I think she won’t last very long in the wild because of predators that she is not familiar with…that she is not prepared to fight or evade. I think she should stay in a mostly overseen(governed) by humans sanctuary.
@@jp-sn6si Yes, I was thinking the same. I highly doubt the wild is a better place than the care of humans. The threat of predation, parasites, physical injuries, infectious diseases, starvation, etc. is much greater in the wild. She could very well end up being eaten alive by a predator, which is a horrible fate that many animals are left to suffer. I'm highly skeptical that she'd be better off in the wild as compared to human captivity.
@@PiecefulKaos Same. And what a complete horrible shock it must be for the animal. Maybe the caretakers have practiced some emotional distance but how can we be sure that the beaver isn't completely attached like a pet dog would be? I just can't imagine how traumatic that would be, but I can only hope they're very good at rehabilitation and transitioning these animals to the wild.
@lucyinthesky444 I don't know why we'd assume her life would be happier in the wild. Again, with the threats I mentioned that cause suffering which could be alleviated or prevented with human help, that's not clear to me at all. It's also the case that threats like predation could increase stress and anxiety.
That little hop wiggle is like bunny binkies! Which they also do when they are happy! So cute!
Yup
Chinchilla too! Popcorning!
Bunny binkies... Never heard of that.. Most adorable phrase in the English lexicon.
Or popcorning guinea pigs.
Like watching a boxer get the zoomies
🦫So adorable is Nibi, I wish for her longevity & a healthy & happy life 🦫💕
Huge respect for the work of these rehab/rescue centres! 😊👍👏👏👏
She’s so cute and sweet it makes you want one! But, they belong in their own habitats. I just love her ❤
She belongs with me
@@elmalloc yeh i think if she is so tamed she should be a pet. its too risky to let her back out to the wild and unfair to her and the people looking after her. i would keep her for sure for her own safety. its not cheating them of a life its protecting them once they have been tamed .
@Lucy in the Sky i don't agree with you.
@Lucy in the Sky lucy stop stalking me for having a different opinion to yours. i don't like your picture and bullying and threatening me. for some people never get much freedom so why should an animal need the evils of the wild, if mostly some of us are locked up and never allowed to have life. i just don't like your name or look.
this has to be a robot attacking me. for fun drama for some freak. just stop stalking and attacking.
"I think she's very ocd"
Well, yeah. She's a beaver 😄
She is so adorable. I was amazed that even though she's never been around other adult beavers, she instinctively knows how to build a dam. Wow! Kudos for all you do for sick, injured, and orphaned animals.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
There’s no way I could be emotionally unattached if I were around such a cute little animal. I could try and I would try if necessary, but I already know that I’d fail miserably.
Try to find Nibi a nice home in a boutique zoo or another sanctuary.
It looks like she's imprinted on humans and may not do well alone in the wild.
When you save a life, you're responsible for that life forever.
TY for rescuing this adorable creature 💞💕💗
Nibi is super sweet.Thank you for saving her and caring for her.
so cute when Nibi is pushing around her toys and sticks 💖💖😃👍💖💖
I have a new appreciation for beavers, and the classic "Busy beaver." Beavers are unbelievably amazing, and Nibi is too cute for words. 😁
Yes, she makes most humans look like lazy slobs with no work ethic.
She's absolutely adorable! 🥰🥰
Nibi hopping joyfully and building busily was great to see.
Wildlife rehabbers are wonderful people.
I’m from Beaverton, Oregon (the Beaver state) and I’m lucky to have a beaver den about 1/4 mile from my house, they are amazing creatures to watch.
Played a baseball tournament in beaverton many years ago, I'm from Canada and we had to stay at houses of residence there. We were very lucky to get a well off person, he paid for are whole team to go white water raftting it was awesome, never forget it.
You actually may or may not know him but he was the designer of MLB logos.
Nibi is such a sweetie. I hope she can be released back into the wild and find other beavers to live with eventually. It's sad that the human carers have to keep their emotional distance to try and help her, it must be so hard. Thanks for helping Nibi and taking such good care of her. 💙
Animals like this need to go to people w/ land and a small body of water so she can be wild but still be monitored.... I could see her living in a pond w/ a little river nearby and her making other beavers come to the area and feel safe as well.
My heart just breaks when I see a wounded wild animal. I have helped on rare occasion, bringing a wounded rabbit home, picked up baby squirrels, tried to help an injured Canada Goose to no avail. I really respect you rehabbers and empathize with how difficult it is to help these animals when they are frightened and defensive.
Go Nibi!😊
You must've been brave to try to pick up a Canadian Goose. One hissed at me when I was a kid and I'm still skittish around them! Beautiful animals, though.
What a loving, intelligent, nurturer is Nibi's rescuer! She so appreciates this amazing little creature.
Now I get the phrase: Busy as a beaver 😊 Adorable animal, thanks for rescuing her. ❤❤
The jumping seems similar to the guineapig behaviour called popcorning, which they do when they are happy and excited 😊
🥰 I was thinking the exact same thing!
Is it "popcorning"? Just checking if you missed a letter out because you were happy and excited? 🙂
She is absolutely the cutest thing I've ever seen!! 🥰 Thank you for rescuing sweet Nibi 💕
I never would have thought of a beaver separating toy from building materials! That's really interesting! And Nibi is SO CUTE!!! 😍
Check out Holley Muraco (also here on youtube) for another person who rehabs beavers. She currently has 3 that each came in separately and they do this too! Wood stays in the pool, toys get thrown outside of the pool. They're SO cute.

She’s already domesticated, she can’t survive in the wild. Too late. Keep her ❤️🙏

@@The-Cat Just a well-wish. Nothing wrong with that. Feel free to substitute (or not) whatever you wish! Have a nice day.
Beavers are among the most family oriented of mammals. I know it will be a heartbreak to let her go, but I hope she can find a mate and make her own beaver family some day. She is as sweet as can be. So glad she found her first home with you.
Nibi going into work mode and standing to walk her sticks through the door is the most precious thing I’ve truly ever seen ❤
She definitely understands the difference between work and play. One day she will graduate and move out on her own - a fully fledged engineer witha great career in front of her building dams and maybe even bridges.
Nibi is adorable! 😊💖 also, i have never seen a beaver walk/move on two legs like this 0:59. It's pretty impressive 👏🏾
Really hope they can find someone with a lot of private property w/ water. Where they won't mind having the beaver there. That way if she never gets that fear of people, she'll at least be in a place that will be a little safer for her.
She might be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!I hope Nibi has a wonderful life, thank you for caring for her.
What a beauty ,its good there are folk ,like you determined ,and willing to help wildlife.!
Nibi is so freaking adorable!! her instincts to build a dam are so strong.
I know that she will succeed in the wild and hopefully she will have a

Such amazing work you do. Thank you. Humanity needs more like you in thus world. She is adorable. Sending blessings.
So cute. Thank you for rescuing so much wildlife and allowing them to live a normal life. Nibi is a character. Americans love their critters. These videos help us learn a lot about the nature of wild animals.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
this beaver's dams and toys are more organized than my entire life
Nbi is such a precious darling and just wonderful to see and hear❤❤❤
😍 Baby Nibi is adorable and I had no idea baby beavers hopping from excitement was a thing! It’s also very interesting to see her preferences and deeply ingrained beaver instincts at play! Great video!
I love this woman's mindset of wanting her beaver to live a life that's free and out there in the wild. Kudos!
You are doing amazing work. Beavers are extraordinary creatures
That's unconditional love, thank you for putting her first 🙏❤️🙏
I have watched this video about 4 times now, I can't get enough of her and she is a credit to you
I'm doing same thing right now! I'm on watch #5; that little face is just adorable! You can see the intelligence in her face!
It’s fascinating how generational knowledge and memory are passed to the offspring like Nibi knows how to build dams. Perhaps a parent who is musically inclined will pass that talent to the children. How this is accomplished is a mystery to me.
I believe this is instrumental in the development of personalities and traits to include mental disorders.
What an amazing foster mom she has! She loves Nibi with everything she has but still wants this sweet, lil beaver to live a normal life in the wild. The people that rehabilitate wild animals & then later release them, are just the best humans. They want animals to live their natural, free life but are happy to help when they’re abandoned & alone. It takes a special person to do this & as for Nibi? She’s just freaking adorable! 💕
She's adorable!! ❤️😍😍
I never knew beavers were my favorite animal until right now hahah. This is so cute

We here in Canada have them as our national symbol for a reason! 🦫🥢🇨🇦

Much respect to animal rehabilitators. Such an unselfish act of kindness and respect for nature. Loved watching Nibi working and playing. I hope she has a wonderful life when she is released.
That was the sweetest when she’s making a dam in front of the door. Bless you and yours
Have you considered speaking to Devon Wildlife Trust and Natural England to see if she'd be a good fit over here? We're in the middle of reintroducing beavers to the UK, starting in Devon. As such, our beaver projects are really protected, meaning that her friendliness to humans would impede her far less here than it would in a normal "wild environment" elsewhere.
Might give her the best possible chance (due to the protected environment and the fact that they had to source beavers from captivity for the project, so she won't be the only one who didn't grow up in the wild). Also, it'd allow her to be part of something truly historic 👍😎
I'm not sure a North American beaver would work with our European beavers. They're not the same.
@@realhorrorshow8547 When I initially read about the DWT project years ago (at it's inception), they were looking to source the beavers for reintroduction from North America as, apparently, they were genetically more sturdy (something to do with resistance to disease and a wider gene pool, if memory serves). They were still Eurasian, but apparently North America has a stock of them, alongside their native species (no idea if this is purely in captivity or...?).
For that reason, whilst I completely understand (& agree with) your point about a species mix, I'm unsure as to whether she would fit the criteria or not. I'm no expert, so I don't know which she is, but I'm aware that she could be either North American or Eurasian.
Am writing this in a hurry, so hope it makes sense!
@@t-and-p It does and you do. Thanks for the info. So far as I know, European beaver projects are using European beavers.
@@realhorrorshow8547 Thank you - it makes a really nice change to have a positive discussion online 👍
Looking at the last DWT bulletin I read on the reintroduction projects, they are definitely using the Eurasian beaver, I'm just not clear on where they sourced them from. If I find the answer, though, I'll pop it on here.
Wishing you a great weekend 😎
