  • Audi's all-new A5 sets a new bar for Audi coupes in America. Based off their new A4 sedan, the A5 claims to have one of the best balanced chassis Audi has ever made and it shows when you get out on your favorite winding road. With nimble handling, more power under the hood and one of the best dual clutch transmissions money can buy, the A5 is a solid 2-door luxury car. Although it's still chasing the C-Class and 4-Series in some ways when it comes to driving dynamics, the Audi fights back with fast 0-60 times and some first class technology.

    • @gw7624
      @gw7624 6 років тому

      Wrong. The A5 is a FWD platform that can be adapted to have 4WD. As such, it has way more forward weight bias than say a 4 series, which is pretty close to 50:50.

    Excellent review! I compared the BMW 4 series, the Audi A5, and the Mercedes C class coupe. I finally decided on the A5 Prestige with S-Line package, for many of the reasons you mentioned in your video. After 1 month of driving, I have to DISAGREE with you about the comfort; I think it's quite comfortable and a "C" rating is kinda harsh. Other than that, your review is spot-on as always and keep up the excellent work!!!

    A sedan, by definition, has the trunk (cargo area) separate from the passenger area. A Sportback/hatchback, by design, has the cargo and passenger area in one enclosed area. So, technically speaking, you can't call the A5 Sportback the A5 Sedan.

    Great review. Covered almost everything. I own A5 2018. I certainly agree with his review. One thing I HATE about Audi is that they would not let you use your own sim card. You got to get ATT and pay $199 for six months. ( though the first six months on a new vehicle are free). I wish I could just pop in my own sim card.

    This comparison really points out how bad the Toyota 2L Turbo in the IS is. They were the last manufacturer to introduce a 2L Turbo in the RC200 and it is by far the worst turbo. The Audi 2L turbo in contrast is just a modern marvel. I don't believe there is a better 2 L engine made today

    I have the Sportback A5, I love everything about it except in Drive (as opposed to Sport) the transmission wants to hunt a hyper efficient gear and ends up putting the revs down to about 1100 - 1400 (below where the torque hits at 1500). You have to put your foot down to kick it down a gear and its hard to drive smoothly in D

    The difference between "fastback" (Sportback) and sedan being the fastback is a hatch design and the sedan obviously being a separate boot or trunk depending on with part of the world you hail from.

    Audi has been killing my pockets at the mechanic for the last 4 yrs. No more German junk for me which is designed to work great until the warranty runs out, then these cars turn to money pits.I just bought a 2018 Acura and i absolutely love it. Your post is a little inconsistent. You trash the Audi after saying it work great until the warranty run out so technically your experience right after buying the Acura does not prove anything by itself . Yes I know Acura has a much better reputation reliability wise and it seems you had a bad experience with your Audi; I certainly hope Audis are now more reliable than their past reputation indicates. I still think Audis are better than M-Bs or BMWs by a long shot. Engineering wise no Acura comes close to the sophistication of the A4/A5 however.

    • @omgitsme435
      @omgitsme435 7 років тому +3

      I wouldn't spend 30k on a used Audi tbh. Plus gas, insurance, repairs, etc. it'll be way more. Wait a bit, and spend that on a new EX-L Accord or XSE Camry (non V6). Especially in college.. The mystique of a brand wears off pretty fast. A reliable car that holds value is a much smarter purchase.

      Samuel Herr dont listen to them. I'm a colllege student and bought a used Audi a5. I would stay away from the older turbo engines. Also, if you buy one, I'd try and get one with less than 60,000 miles, get it looked at, or buy CPO or still on warranty. Also, check for oil leaks and that the bushings are still doing good. Check the maintenance records.
      I bought mine at the worst time. Bushings and brakes needed to be replaced. Make sure to have some savings aside just in case of repairs. Otherwise mine has been amazing and very reliable.

      W-_-T A 4 banger just not feel or drive like a 6 or 8. Relegated mostly to ECONOMY cars and not $50k + cars . Porsche put a 4 in Cayman/Boxter and sales dropped over 30%. It’s fast too but ya gotta be nuts 🥜 to pay that for a 4

      I got my 51k MSRP A4 for $43,xxx. The Giulia, while nice, feels cheaper inside than the Audi and FCA scares me.

      I'm in Los Angeles and had every Audi dealer in a 200 mile radius (which is a lot) giving me their best quote on the car I wanted (which has a stick, sport plus pkg, tech pkg etc (another reason i went A4 over Giulia/A5/S3/XE which were also on my list)). I love the A4 and probably would have loved the Giulia too. Both great cars and hopefully they hold up.

    I test drove the Sportback, but it rode too firm, even in "Comfort", and it sat too low for me.
    Nice car, but a little too sports car for what I expected out of it.

    The exterior looked dated, especially compared to the Infiniti Q60.
    I think the 300hp Q60 3.0t Premium AWD is the best value in the luxury coupe segment. Although it has 55 lb-ft less torque than the Red Sport, it's 85 lbs lighter, and can be fitted with lightweight 18" wheels. (18" won't fit on the Red Sport)
    The smaller & lighter wheels can also improve the ride quality of Q60, which is a bit too firm.
    A well equipped Q60 3.0t Premium AWD is about $50,000 and it's much faster than the 4-cylinder German coupes.

      The A5 is going to age a lot better than that Q60. The interior and MMI of the Audi is definitely better and worth it for most people. Last but not least, let's not forget badge/brand prestige - which is already a huge factor when people purchase these kinds of cars.

      Not true.In order to get 4.3 you need to pre-rev the engine to 3k rpm.

      I should also say that as a general rule we don't use launch control or brake torque to get our numbers. It's just right foot on brake, move to gas and stomp.

    A Japanese/Korean car's "refresh" or face-lift is much more radically different than a German car's "redesign" is there a reason for this? It makes the German car designers seem lazy by comparison, especially Audi/Volkswagen and BMW. Mercedes is a little better about differentiating the new from the old from what I see.

      J High What I'm saying is if Audi "redesigned" this car, it wouldn't look much different than the previous. Well, either way, they'll never see my money. A new Audi today doesn't look much different than one from 10 years ago.

    • @omgitsme435
      @omgitsme435 7 років тому +6

      Outside maybe, inside is completely different than the older generation. These will age a lot better than those radical Japanese redesigns. Those Lexus/Toyota designs will look so dated in 3-5 years I bet.

    • @fatredditmod
      @fatredditmod 7 років тому +2

      there's a good reason as to why they don't change the design radically. 10 years from now, the car wouldn't look too old. Look at Mercedes, cars from 5 years ago look so outdated. I would feel bad if I owned one.

    I hate that grille. I hate the revamped styling on the rest of the car. The door panels look like shit. As for the dash, I don't know what i hate more; the stupid screen stuck on top like an afterthought, or the vent that goes almost all the way across the car. It looks like you're driving an air conditioner.

    • @chrisk920

      I agree. I HATE that they're making cars with Ipads sticking out of the dash. I stare at a damn computer screen 10 hours a day, it's aweful! And so is google earth on the dash. Who the hell needs to see that unless you're a truck driver!
