Love your positivity Al! I've been doing IF for the past year and a half (!) and I've never felt better! I'm leaner and feel great, and I also workout in the morning, fasted, so I couldn't agree more with you 😉 Thanks for spreading the love and for your commitment to the ultimate gym: our bodies!

I do a "light" intermittent fasting , because I have restricted my feeding window to 9-10 hours , and not to less than 8 hours. My first meal is fruits , around 12:00 noon (I wake up at 07:30 ) then another meal (salad ) at 16:00 and a snack at 18:00 and some cooked food at 21:00. My diet is almost vegan (I consume very little cheese or yogurt , or eggs , just a portion every few weeks) I do my training at 20:00-20:45 , just before my last meal.

I've been told though that if you're going to do physical work, it's best not to do so on an empty stomach. The reasoning is that if you're being powered by carbohydrates, you can do heavier work and for longer before you're exhausted as opposed to when you're just burning fat.
Is this a myth or is there any truth to that?
Also, would that reasoning apply to intellectual work? Can the brain burn fat to fuel itself and is it just as efficient if it's burning carbohydrates?
Or is the opposite true, where after a meal the body is less capable of physical work, because it's busy digesting etc.?

    This was the one.
    Training in a fasted state.
No eating several hours later until 1st meal.
    I needed this.
I get up at 0500 to train, until 0600.
    I can't eat until 12 noon. A long slog.
Surprised me how many people (online) argued that it was detrimental.
Well. Gonna give it a try from tomorrow onwards.
    So long normality!

I'm in total agreement with you Al. It does work and I'm back to interment fasting now. If you do 10:30 to 6:30 it's not that bad. I get forced into dinner a little late every once and a while but no biggie.
The only thing I would say is that don't skip the cream in your coffee if you have acid reflux. No food on your stomach doesn't help acid reflux and skipping the cream with just make you miserable.

Great stuff Al keep them coming love your pointers and hey hey hey Al the industry would you say is full of BS lol.. ok I have a question though so when it comes to working out or getting back to work out in my case I have found it is easier since I workout indoors doing it in my bare feet . Sneakers getting in my way when skipping rope and to me are only good when I decide to jog or bike ride which is outdoors for me. I was wondering are there any benefits being in my bare feet or am I doing more harm then good. I was wondering is it better to do sets or HIIT what do you think I mean everyone is different. And why don't we see more of you doing either or but any feedback is greatly appreciated.

You're the man Al! Great video as always! I'm someone who needs the opposite of IF. I'm about 6'2" and am currently 150 lbs. I'm up about 8 lbs over the past 2 months (natural) and I've weighed this much before. So, I feel as though my gains will plateau shortly. What do you suggest as to breaking that threshold of 160 lbs? Any meals or quick tips to getting in those extra calories? Thanks Al!

Is it true about not worrying about immediate consumption of post workout protein intake? I don't know much, but the current rhetoric that its best to consume protein immediately post workout sounds pretty convincing, and i never imagined that its a hoax until this video.

In my family we have our biggest meal at breakfast, so I feel better having my meals early and starting the fast in the afternoon as dinner tends to be just a slice of bread anyway so its easier to cut. I feel I sleep better with this routine

Thanks for the video Al! I'm a week into 16:8 IF and wondering should I stick to maintenance calories? I want to use If to drop body fat, but at the same time I want to build muscle, so I have to be in a calorie surplus?
If so, does anyone else find it a challenge to fit all those calories into just 8 hours!!??

  • @jorg7368

Hi. Instead of extending fasting by skipping breakfast, how about skipping dinner? As going not with a full stomach in the night might be good for better digestion, would this work in the same way for burning fat? I just imagining its more easy than skipping breakfast as you sleep trough the phase were you get more hungry. For example not eating after 4pm and making a workout in the morning, but having a breakfast after the workout like an oatmeal, not with milk but with fresh fruit juice like mango or kiwi and nuts.

Hey Al. I have a question about get strong. I'm on phase 2 week 2 and I also do kickboxing about 1-2 times a week, which makes it hard on my time and body to do the workouts 3 times a week with proper rest in between. So to combat this problem I've started to stick with each week of the programme for 2 weeks instead of 1 to steadily build my strength alongside doing kickboxing without burning my self out. Would you recommend this?

I recently learned that coffee, even without sweeteners and all of that added crap, still in fact breaks a fast. Caffeine is a xenobiotic and has to be filtered through your liver, which breaks the fast. Dr Rhonda Patrick explains the reason behind this on episode #901 with Joe Rogan at the 2hr 35min marker.

    • @paulvrana1363
      @paulvrana1363 7 років тому

FIRChristian - there is plenty of evidence that ingesting fewer calories (i.e. as opposed to 0) over an extended period is beneficial - see this recent review: www.the-scientist.com/?articles.view/articleNo/49462/title/Running-on-Empty/&NEWSLETTER_TS_The%C2%ADScientist%C2%ADDaily_2016&E2%80%A6
Moreover, coffee is not going to induce of much an insulin spike, which appears to really trigger pro-aging pathways (e.g mTOR). In fact, caffeine seems to induce autophagy (good - fasting also causes it) by suppressing mTOR
