Lyrics:
All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head, I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles, it's a very, very
Mad world, mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
"Hello, teacher. Tell me, what's my lesson?"
Look right through me, look right through me
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles, it's a very, very
Mad world, mad world
Enlarging your world
Mad world

No kidding ~ he was absolutely prophetic
Jesus is coming home to Rapture the Chruch. Please come home with us. You just have to choose Jesus and not this mad world. I don’t think Donnie Darko would have felt “complete” without Gary Jules’ Mad World. The way that this song compliments the end of the movie is what I think adds that last piece of puzzle to the picture. It also arguably helps you understand what the ending of that movie really means too.
So glad you like it⭐️
@@GaryJulesOfficial I love both your version of the song and Tears For Fears’ original version. They both sound so different and unique, but both of them are very beautiful in their own way. So glad you could make it possible with Micheal Andrews and Donnie Darko.
@@thelizox So agree. The TFF version was huge for me growing up, which I why I always loved covering it, even before we did the version for the movie. 🗺
@@GaryJulesOfficial the TFF version is very chaotic and rebellious while this version is more calm and resigned.
agreed. one of my favorite songs in one of my favorite movies
I buried my father today, Gary Jules. I played this song at the funeral for him as I find the lyrics to speak to me and convey how I feel in this mad world. Thank you for making this beautiful song.
Condolences, friend. Losing a father is mind bending. We’re all sorry for your loss.
RIP to your dad mate. So sorry for your loss ..
So sorry for your loss.
My sympathy. It's heartbreaking. As this song. Take care.

This is the best version of this song by a wide margin. Absolutely perfect for Donnie Darko, which is how I first heard this version of Mad World.

I also love this version. This has become one of my most significant songs and that's really a lot. So thank you very much for this.
OG Gears of War trailer for me
Children waiting for the day they feel good, happy birthday, happy birthday......
Man. Those lyrics get me sobbing everytime 😭
so good, ikr?
Yes I noticed that… most children with archaic blood are bloody not feeling good ever. It’s really hard to experience as a mother …as my childhood wasn’t like this….
I love this version so much, I live every day on the edge of suicide, I tell no -one , but it is always there.
Music lets me live
Hugs
I do. Too. You're not alone. Sending light, peace and love your way ❤🙏
Your not alone, your in an ever expanding group at this point, wears on the soul sometimes but we all find our ways to cope with the difficulties of living, some days are easier then others but we get through it

I've heard the Tears for Fears original.. I've heard Adam Lambert cover, but Gary Jules' rendition is the most hard hitting and memorable for me. I find myself singing this version often.
Thank you Mr Jules, for one of my all time favourites.
So appreciative of your kind words⭐️ thx for being a fan and for being here with us
I remember when I was in college, our math teacher noticed me sitting there, looking sad and unable to concentrate on the board. He came over and asked what was troubling me. He empathized with me, understanding that I had no friends among the 150 students in the class. He took 10 minutes out of his class time just to talk to me. At that time, I hadn't heard this song, but now whenever I listen to it, I can't help but connect it with that memory. It always makes me feel sad
Seems like he was a good guy
He was an ángel .They are person like that and sometimes we find around the way .
I also sat alone and didn’t talk and when people came up to me to ‘empathize,’ it slightly annoyed me. I just like sitting around not taking to people
I was so lonely all Through school..... You got an amazing gift.
I’m a grandmother. Two sons and one grandson. If you ever need to talk don’t hesitate to reach out. Everything always works out for the best.
My wife left me a few weeks ago and moved back to the states. This was one of her favourite songs, it was mine too when I was younger.
It was one of the many things we bonded over when we first started talking and now it's something I listen to now I can't hear her beautiful voice anymore. I took her for granted and came home from work to find her gone one night. She's the most beautiful soul I've ever met and I've lost the most important part of me. I never deserved someone so precious, but she gave herself to me for the time that she did and I had the best part of my life with her. The absence of her smile makes my life a dull tone of grey and I'll never be the same without her. The world doesn't know how much it needs that girl. I love you so much sweetheart, show them what you're worth.
Yo, man! Hang in there. Life is a punch in the gut sometimes. You will get through ⭐️
Go get your girl back 😭
Go get her back my friend, life is way too short, spend every day telling her how much you love her, how your heart is hers, fix whatever went wrong, show her your love x
I'm Dave and I'm 67. I've found that once broken, relationships just can't be fixed. There is no way to return to how things were in the past. It's tough. You won't get over it. But there's nothing you can do.
I know how you feel, experienced the same. 7 years passed now, I still rememember her. "Go get her back" does not work if one person just decided otherwise. I agree to Dave, once something is broken you cant fix it as hard as it sounds. Life often is about moving on and I wish you the best to happen in future!
I know it’s not the original, but this is by far my favorite rendition of this song. Timeless and sadly relevant.
Agree and appreciate the kind words. ⭐️
HE totally nailed it. Some covers like this one or say sweet jane by Cowboy Junkies - are just better than the original.
Same. I very rarely like covers as much as the original, but this is a rare example where I think this is the best version.

I remember back in Junior year of high school in my AP English Lang class, my teacher one time played the song and the Tears for Fear version and gave us the lyrics. Never heard these beautiful songs until he introduced it to the class. Few years ago, I heard the tragic news that he got cancer and months later, he passed away and was truly heartbroken by this. Finally uploaded in HD. Man, this music video takes me back.
Thanks! Gondry’s camp was a big help in getting this HD version together👍
One of the great classics of all time. Adam Lambert elevated this remarkable song in America……. Beautiful!
the original video from over 13 years ago is actually gone, such sadness :(
I lost my mother in January 2024, life seems meaningless, and now its just me and my father trying to value everything about my future now when I turn 19 which is why I am glad that this copy was saved as mad world is just such a beautiful song by you Gary Jules! its honestly the song that has helped us in tough times and upon our troubles to find the reflections within ourselves that even if there isn't a meaning that life must keep going and so we even if it ends as nothing. thank you for this memory and childhood nostalgia, such a timeless masterpiece and so I hope everyone stays strong and to a more meaningful future I hope to see you all there ciao!
Actually this is the original video. 😃 It was made in 2004 by Michel Gondry, and we worked with his team last year to get the highest resolution version that exists! So glad you’re here.
@@GaryJulesOfficial@BlitzWizard94 I can totally relate! I kept going back and forth to that video and today I saw it was deleted and I was super confused because I really liked the video (I knew I could listen to the song through other means). Little did I know it'd be re-uploaded by the official Gary Jules channel! I remember when old video was a year old (when I found out about the song).. different times. Coming back to it reminds me of those times and I get nostalgic. Thanks for the amazing song!

@@GaryJulesOfficialOk Gary Jules :)
I wish this song was like 20 minutes longer.
if you put it on repeat, maybe? 🖤😂
This song gives me chills everytime the exact same way it did when I heard it for the first time. I remember that moment distinctly because I pulled over to the side of the road to listen intently with no distraction.
Perhaps the best cover in the history of music, it's on the same shortlist that Hurt as sung by Johnny Cash is. It completely changes and overtakes the original in your head.
That’s always so great to hear. Glad you’re still enjoying it 🌖
@@GaryJulesOfficial There's something supernatural about this song, I've been listening to it non-stop for a week. Gary, will we be able to look and wait for time beyond the silence?
One of the only other examples I know of songs that I almost entirely prefer the cover to the original is Midge Ure's cover of The Man Who Sold The World.
Came here to say the same thing. So many covers just seem like vanity projects where the new singer just thinks the song would be better if only they did it, but every once in a while the cover brings something out that the original artist maybe didn’t even know was there. I liked the Tears for Fears version, but I LOVE this one.
Feel ya.. there's some incredibly strong musical pieces out there that make art magical, and this is one of those.
Will never forget: I was on the way to Logan airport- must have been like 10 years old. I'm in the back of the airport shuttle listening to this song on my ipod classic. Right when he says "worn out faces" we pass by a run down sign for an abandoned disco called "Faces"
It completely blew my mind. What are the odds of me listening to that song, in that place, with that timing?
This is pretty crazy, tbh

This song is so relatable in 2024, depression everywhere.
I was gifted a great work shift Mon-Fri 6am-2:30pm for almost a year. It was a great work/life balance. Now my days off are Mon/Tue and I get home from work about 9 or 10pm. I sleep in on my days off and when I get home nobody is awake at home. Visiting with family is so limited and timed now. I keep putting my faith, projects, seeing friends, and health appointments on the back burner. My alcohol consumption has increased with tough days being more common. When I’m clocked in at work is when I’m most happy. I have a task and a purpose. Not focusing on the crappy side of my current shift. It’s by seniority. A morning shift Mon-Fri coworker is retiring within the year. Hope it happens please! I want my quality of life back.
I heard/saw this music video when I was really really young and I couldn't remember what it sounded or looked like until I clicked on this. I don't know you man but you managed to live in my head as a blurry memory for about 15 years!!
I’m like a fungus that way 🤩
When I first saw this video, I must have been 7 or 8 years old, I had already heard the song, naturally, but never seen the video before. It filled me with something I had never experienced before, nor had the vocabulary to articulate, I was entranced by this grey American cityscape bathing in the beautiful sunset sun, Michael Andrews forlornly accompanying it with his piano; it looked like a place I had only ever seen in my dreams, or out of the corner of my eye, while staring out the window in class. In the years since it has bedeviled my imagination and inspired my art, the feeling the sunset gave me has never left me.
Today I found out to my dismay my own grey Arcadia was actually just Hoboken, NJ. Damn you Michel Gondry.
Masterpiece
appreciate you 💯
I've had this song in mt head for as long as i can remember and honestly it still helps me cope with my bouts of depression. Thank you.

No, it's not even close to being the best cover. It was butchered.
@@tanyairwin3695 I think you're butchering your own timeline and reality. This song and particularly this version tells you everything you need to know about the world, but if that is too much for you to bear, then you might as well go back to sleep and be 'happy' there.😇

Only someone with depression could produce such a song. Yet, it captures our contemporary society so accurately. Maybe we need to start listening to more voices within our society.
