This song is powerful. I heard this song when I was going through something (the death of a loved one). Thank you for such a beautiful song., it gives me solace everytime I listen to it.
I first heard this song as a child. Its melancholic realism was too understandable and cathartic even then. How much moreso now, with the times we live. Thank you, Gary Jules for offering a timeless piece that rings true to the lowly wonderers. What a mad world indeed...
My wife left me a few weeks ago and moved back to the states. This was one of her favourite songs, it was mine too when I was younger. It was one of the many things we bonded over when we first started talking and now it's something I listen to now I can't hear her beautiful voice anymore. I took her for granted and came home from work to find her gone one night. She's the most beautiful soul I've ever met and I've lost the most important part of me. I never deserved someone so precious, but she gave herself to me for the time that she did and I had the best part of my life with her. The absence of her smile makes my life a dull tone of grey and I'll never be the same without her. The world doesn't know how much it needs that girl. I love you so much sweetheart, show them what you're worth.
Go get her back my friend, life is way too short, spend every day telling her how much you love her, how your heart is hers, fix whatever went wrong, show her your love x
I'm Dave and I'm 67. I've found that once broken, relationships just can't be fixed. There is no way to return to how things were in the past. It's tough. You won't get over it. But there's nothing you can do.
I know how you feel, experienced the same. 7 years passed now, I still rememember her. "Go get her back" does not work if one person just decided otherwise. I agree to Dave, once something is broken you cant fix it as hard as it sounds. Life often is about moving on and I wish you the best to happen in future!
It is a bummer that the song continues to be so applicable to the world. but i suppose there will always be madness. it’s important to work through it all, and im so glad you’re still listening✌️
My son Loved this song. His freshman year we moved at the start of the school year. So Wes experienced the first day of class in two different schools the same year. Hence, he knew basically no one in the second school. So, I know the lyrics "no one knew me" hit him like a ton of bricks. The writer of this hauntingly beautiful song was a depressed 19 year old when he wrote this song. My son at 19 decided he could take no more of this truly "Mad World" and exited this realm on his own terms. I view this often in his memory. I know he will be back, if he's not already??❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I was gifted a great work shift Mon-Fri 6am-2:30pm for almost a year. It was a great work/life balance. Now my days off are Mon/Tue and I get home from work about 9 or 10pm. I sleep in on my days off and when I get home nobody is awake at home. Visiting with family is so limited and timed now. I keep putting my faith, projects, seeing friends, and health appointments on the back burner. My alcohol consumption has increased with tough days being more common. I grow up with the original. Not always a fan of covers, but this one just works. It's a totally different style and tone with makes the lyrics have a more poignant meaning
I want this played at my funeral when I clock out ❤
@@Hi_Doctor_Nick Hi, EVERYBODY! Thanks for stopping by. Appreciate the kind words ⭐
One of the most beatiful songs ever made
And such a beautiful video by M Gondry

One of the best songs I have ever heard. The first time I heard this I was overcome with emotion and got goosebumps, the same thing still happens to this day. This is so Beautiful
James! Thanks for writing ✍️ So glad to have you here with us⭐️⭐️
@@GaryJulesOfficialyou sing very well😊
it's good to have you "back" Dom❤️
He’s not back, this is the prequel to the original Gears of War I believe
Donnie Darko would be incomplete without this song. Amazing, I listen to this everyday non stop. :)
That very nice to hear. Thanks for listening ⭐️
That's what brought me here
Hard to believe I heard this for the first time 23 years ago when I watched Donnie Darko in 2001. I still cry every time I listen to it 😢😢😢
Thanks for finding us here. Nice to have you. ⭐️
“The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had”
real
😅❤
I used to listen to this when I was deeply depressed and bullied through school 5 years ago, got me through tough times. This song helps me remember that struggle so now I appreciate my current life even more, going from ugly duckling to attractive changed the way that people treated me. This song will always be part of my life
Very glad to hear it helped through some tough times ⭐️
The perfect song to play for my funeral.
be sure to put that in your will ✍️
@@GaryJulesOfficial Affirmative ✅
My friend had this at his funeral.
My funeral song is The Last Goodbye
When you remove the happy mask of a person mentally in ruins. You get this song. Really hit me in the feels.
Going nowhere is a good thing! Staying...... love!
Thx for staying ⭐️
I heard/saw this music video when I was really really young and I couldn't remember what it sounded or looked like until I clicked on this. I don't know you man but you managed to live in my head as a blurry memory for about 15 years!!
I’m like a fungus that way 🤩
Great! One of the best covers in the history of music, completely brought the lyrics to life. One of my all time favourites.😊
Appreciate that!
No, it's not even close to being the best cover. It was butchered.
@@tanyairwin3695 I think you're butchering your own timeline and reality. This song and particularly this version tells you everything you need to know about the world, but if that is too much for you to bear, then you might as well go back to sleep and be 'happy' there.😇
@@D.A.DreamArt "this version" doesn't do the original justice. Anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong and needs some serious help. You must've been dropped on your head as a baby.
Wow. A beautiful video to a beautiful song. Thank you Gary x
Thanks for being here ⭐️
This song/cover has the most emotion of any song ever. Truly a one of a kind masterpiece.
Thanks for watching!
@@GaryJulesOfficial no problem. I've seen this numerous times over the years. Thanks for your contribution to music.
I'm 53 years old and have been fortunate to have both of my parents. That changed last Friday as I watched my father take his last breath. This song has helped during my healing process. Thank you Gary ❤
So sorry for your loss and that you’re going through such a difficult and emotional time. Takes time to process and never goes away. Glad you were able to be with him at the end. ⭐️❤️
Absolute magic. One of the rare times when the cover is better than the original.
Thanks for the kind words. It’s a really touching and universal song.
Nah
Exactly
Best cover EVER!!!
Do not lie
I remember my dad showing me this version of the song when i was about 5 years old. And that memory is still living in my head rent free ❤ very nostalgic song. Thank you
glad you’re here ⭐️
I've had this song in mt head for as long as i can remember and honestly it still helps me cope with my bouts of depression. Thank you.

I remember Roland and Curt perfoming this and loving it then, and then hearing it on the Donnie Darko soundtrack, transformed into this soul wrenching epic, bringing tears to my eyes, thank you.
Appreciate u being here 👍
Donnie darko was the 1st time I heard it too ..I was like who is this? This haunting beautiful song
@@ToddEmerson-b4g Thx for listening!
Time after time when this came up on Mtv i was kinda in a mood. Still after all those years the whole vibe around this tune will never disappear. What an all time classic.
Wow! Back when MTV still played music videos 😂😂 thx for being here
the original video from over 13 years ago is actually gone, such sadness :(
I lost my mother in January 2024, life seems meaningless, and now its just me and my father trying to value everything about my future now when I turn 19 which is why I am glad that this copy was saved as mad world is just such a beautiful song by you Gary Jules! its honestly the song that has helped us in tough times and upon our troubles to find the reflections within ourselves that even if there isn't a meaning that life must keep going and so we even if it ends as nothing. thank you for this memory and childhood nostalgia, such a timeless masterpiece and so I hope everyone stays strong and to a more meaningful future I hope to see you all there ciao!
Actually this is the original video. 😃 It was made in 2004 by Michel Gondry, and we worked with his team last year to get the highest resolution version that exists! So glad you’re here.
@@GaryJulesOfficial@BlitzWizard94 I can totally relate! I kept going back and forth to that video and today I saw it was deleted and I was super confused because I really liked the video (I knew I could listen to the song through other means). Little did I know it'd be re-uploaded by the official Gary Jules channel! I remember when old video was a year old (when I found out about the song).. different times. Coming back to it reminds me of those times and I get nostalgic. Thanks for the amazing song!
@@GaryJulesOfficial yeah this is the original but there was a channel with this exact clip but it got taken down unfortunately a few days ago. it was uploaded over 14 years ago so its saddening to see it gone but glad the original is still on your channel it never leaves my heart and is always beautiful

This song is incredible. It keeps playing in my head at random times, and it's such a mood... Makes me kind of lost in thought sometimes.
Masterpiece ♥️
What a wonderful interpretation of this song.
My favorite song for 12 years. Simply brothers until the end
Absolutely poetic! Thank you for this.
Glad you enjoyed it! ⭐️
Amazing!
This song is powerful. I heard this song when I was going through something (the death of a loved one). Thank you for such a beautiful song., it gives me solace everytime I listen to it.
So nice to hear that. ⭐️
Beautiful cover and so apt in Lost Boys and Fairies ❤
I first heard this song as a child. Its melancholic realism was too understandable and cathartic even then. How much moreso now, with the times we live. Thank you, Gary Jules for offering a timeless piece that rings true to the lowly wonderers. What a mad world indeed...
Those are kind words. Thanks ⭐️
Love love love this version of this song. It’s one song that makes me tear up in a good way. Thank you.

Gears of War E-Day!!!!!!!!!
Yo, man! Hang in there. Life is a punch in the gut sometimes. You will get through ⭐️
Go get your girl back 😭
Go get her back my friend, life is way too short, spend every day telling her how much you love her, how your heart is hers, fix whatever went wrong, show her your love x
And feeeeels and it feeeels. Like heaven is so far away.
Oh wait wrong song.
Gary I think u for being a Hero an absolute legend n Savior ❤❤
This song I can listen to over and over, like remember when you had that feeling when it was your birthday ( younger) .. it is a mad world 😢
It is a bummer that the song continues to be so applicable to the world. but i suppose there will always be madness. it’s important to work through it all, and im so glad you’re still listening✌️
Bro so sorry for your lost man losing a child is the worst thing any human being can go through that story you told really hit me I really hope he is in a better place now 🙏
@@jasonkerridge8929 Thanks for your kind note Jason. I know Wes is floating around. He comes to me in my dreams all the time. My sincere belief is that those who exit early at their own hand have to come back in an ensuing incarnation to face and hopefully overcome the same challenges. In the end though, none are left behind.

One of those songs that stick with you for the rest of your life. I doubt both Gears (even if it was only used in the trailer, still) and Donnie Darko would feel complete without this song. Bravo Gary

It’s time to take out our Lancers and Gnashers, the Locust are getting their asses kicked again guys!
When I’m clocked in at work is when I’m most happy. I have a task and a purpose. Not focusing on the crappy side of my current shift. It’s by seniority. A morning shift Mon-Fri coworker is retiring within the year. Hope it happens please! I want my quality of life back.
I hope so to
