I love this song also. It reminds me of some of the madness in the world right now. Listening to it makes me feel better. Sometimes it seems like it is a very, very "mad world."
I as well have always loved this song However I can not cognize how this song makes you feel better .... This song is so old and it's much more relevant today than when it was made , Society is so convoluted with so many ideaoigys all working against one another not to mention very sick & evil people who have significant power manipulating the world .... In my humble opinion if more ppl really took this song to heart ppl would stop rushing to be rich and famous , ppl should want to secure weath for their families than give back to their fellow man ..... If there was less greed in ppl's hearts than you'd see more and more ppl supporting eachother to a point where billionaires or trillionaires (also governments) would be out numbered... Sadly that's not reality ..... too many ppl have so much greed and hate in their hearts that it's really just a matter of when not if civilization or society as a whole will collapse.... so again for me at least I fail to see how this song would make anyone feel better, as much as I love this song I remember why I stopped listening to it... it really is a mad World ....

Take mad world for instance, a beautifully haunting song yes , it can be sad to some and happy in the way of memories to others. That's the beauty of the song.
