- Created by and starring real-life best friends Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson, Comedy Central’s Detroiters follows a pair of small-time ad men trying to make it in the Motor City. The second season, which wraps up tomorrow, saw Sam and Tim get into hijinks all around the city: they met Detroit hero and legendary news anchor, Mort Crim, rubbed elbows with University of Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh, and failed miserably at jump starting a local teen nightclub. Ahead of the second season finale, we sat down with Robinson to find out his five favorite local TV commercials of all time.
You can tell that Tim's brain has specially evolved to be able to process the absurd stuff that most of us have learned to ignore.
I’m a Michigan native. Our local commercials are legendary
Yessir
I’m a Canada native but we got all our TV from Detroit so Mel Farr became a sort of father figure in my life. I think he’s proud of me
Tubby's submarine, Tubby's submarine.....
@@richardphysician5640 There's no substitute.
I felt the Mr. Alan’s one on a spiritual level. Saturday morning cartoons and laughing at shitty Mr. Alan’s ads were a tradition in my household.
Tim Robinson has an amazing singing voice, reminds me of Michael McDonald
I keep forgetting what Michael McDonald sings
@@sb_dunk 😆😆😆
Fri. Day. Night...
OHHHHHH DEVEROUXXXXXXXXXX
Reminds me of tiny boots squiggs shortersly
Tim's (and Sam's) show on television really got me. The spoofs on local commercials tickled a funny bone I never knew I had. Also the gag with the funeral viewing of the lady in a lawn chair smoking a cig was just such a Detroit thing on so many levels, I laughed so hard I cried. I was so glad that the show aired and we got a second season!
Don't forget Dietrich Furs where u had ppl ski down the slopes wit furs on. So tacky and corny but a major old Detroit commercial classic lol
I haven't lived in the Detroit metro area in 25 years but I still sing this song to my friends cause it's so horny/corny OoooOoo dee trix fuuuurs.
Honorable mention: Club Mozambique, Miley + Miley Shrimp Shack, Highland Appliance, the Detroit Science Center (circa 1985).
He has the singing voice of an angel.
Head On? T Bone? Rear end?
Those attorneys ACTUALLY put that in their ad
Does anybody remember 'Crazy Clarence' from Wonderland Music Commercials in Detroit? With the Giant Turkeys for the Thanksgiving sale and the "Rapping Santas" for the Christmas commercial. Or "SUNDAYSUNDAYSUNDAY!!! AT THE PONTIAC SIVERDOME...
I was a waiter at Pyramids Cafe on Southfield Rd just north of 12 Mile, early '90's, and met Clarence and his mom when they were dining there!
Thanks for putting the Lover's Lane ad in there with no warning, AV Club. Now I look like a total perv to everyone in this Maid Cafe
At least three or four times a year I listen to the old “think Ford first” commercial in my car at full blast and sing along. The original version, not that BS instrumental version such a banger.
“Quality is the reason when it’s, your 31. Your 31 metro Detroit Ford dealers THINK FOR FIRST!”
Every time I think of Mr.Allens I hear “29 or 2 for fify”
Every time I have a patient named Allen, I want to call him Mr. Allen, and then say $29 or two for 50.
That last part was beautiful
this is hilarious because Rick Mahorn lived like 10 or so houses from me for YEARS and I never even recognized him as the ford commercial guy..
Oh and don’t sleep on Big Bob. He has THE craziest car dealership ads in the Metro Detroit area. Election season had some choice ads from him.
Nah. Never heard of Big Bob. I’m from Detroit proper tho
"It's Medical Weight Loss, the shape of things to come..."
My favorite Little Caesar's commercial was for Pizza Pizza, "They must do it with mirrors!" Can't find that one online.
RIP Barnes
I'm bummed he didn't mention the Detroit Zoo ad.
My lines, my lines, I can't remember my lines! Take it from me, you just have to be coooool
No DOC! No sexy specs!? Those commercials are burned into my brain from growing up in St Louis
Tim and Sam actually devoted a solid 2 minutes on Seth Meyers talking about Sexy Specs and Richard Golden.
The ultimate twist. Tim actually has a nice singing voice
Pizza, chicken, ribs, jumbo shrimp taste great - Happy’s delivers, Happy’s open late
They had the Four Tops at one point and that song ripped… When you’re hungry real hungry for some yummy food, shout out to happy cause it’s all good, eat happy!
Upstate NY REPRESENT! See also, The Heavy Hitters, Peters & Catalano. Big breakup, but over the top ads.
When you’re hungry, real hungry for some yummy food - get down to Happy’s - cuz it’s all good - Happay’s pizzaaaaa - oouuoooo it’s aaaalllll goood
No love for Mr Belvedere? He did good work, TYler 87100
This makes me think of the "Jerome-Taylor Auto Mall, It's YUUUUGGGGEE"
Hah! I knew the guy who was made into the cartoon for 29 or 2 for 50.
Mr. Alan's was iconic!
29 or 2 for 50 is buried in my brain
No Highland Appliance? "50 Watts per channel, babycakes." Russian spies in a submarine--I guess in one of the Great Lakes. 😂
Have you guys seen " Bozo Dubbed Over " ??
We're father and sons, we'll do it all.
Those wjlb pumping strong songs commercial used to be dope!
Eagleman car insurance, one of the best
I knew it wouldn't take much scrolling to find someone. 😂
Even at like 4 years old living in Chicago, I knew that commercial word for word.
Bo Schimmers may have just had commercials running Downriver, but those were the best. “I want a divorce!” “Well, I’m taking the kid!”
Y’all gotta look up the Mark Norton furniture ads please
FEIGER law, makes you feel like you owe that man a debt of gratitude for being such a good lawyer. Makes me want to buy Groff a sandwich. Bless that man.
Maybe Tim's young to have seen them, but I'm surprised he didn't mention the Watt's Club Mozambique tv spots.
The fact that commercial was on during the afternoon when The New Dance show was on always blew my mind.
Love the way they emphasize Detroit 🥲
Hey dog, come on dog! Me and dog want you to go to Telegraph Road!!!! Right now!!!! Get a good deal!!!!
God damn, I saw this video and tried to make the exact comment I made 2 years ago without realizing I'd seen it before. I wonder if I'll do the same thing in another 2 years...
Lover's Lane with Julie Strain
I was really hoping to see some love for Jim "The Hammer" Shapiro.
Lowell "The Hammer" Stanley is an attorney in the Hampton Roads area of VA. He's a fucking madman lol his commercials are on UA-cam.
There's a guy in Texas named Jim Adler who calls himself the Texas Hammer. His commercials used to be pretty normal except for his silly name but I just saw one last year for the first time in probably a decade and they are completely bonkers now.
Head on? T bone? Rear end? Sounds like a fun weekend
grand prospect hall is a great one
House of Guitars in upstate NY 👌
I think Tim would love Probe Chiropractic if he were from the Philly area
RIP celino
It was Barnes who died
Wait. So Tim does have a good singing voice?! I’ve been duped!
Jetts Pizza . Great .? Detroit deep dish . Shout out to Dee Twa
Imo i don't think any commercial tops uncle majic the hip hop magician who currently has a 1.5 star on yelp. Please hire him for your kids birthday parties.
Bruh I just saw this for the first time today and Barnes died yesterday
Mel Farr was the man
wait a minute.. the pterodactyl joke was stolen from the movie airplane. what the fuck :(
Toowenty nine or to fo fifty
😂😂😂😂
ummmm, weird oversight by Tim, but that WAS Mel Farr in those commercials and NOT Rick Mahorn. Dunno where he got that idea. They don't even look alike.
Tim did a version of the commercial that is almost exactly the same, except it stars Rick Mahorn, on Detroiters.
Barnes died in a plane crash
Barnes died... I think. Plane crash
