Great, thank you for this. Reddit said they pulled 1.11.1 due to some problems, I woke up to mine being updated already. Glad to see your channel grow, i see this as a Public safety broadcast for this machine.
Thank you! Yah the temperature warnings are new for me. I think they are more conservative with battery thresholds with boost enabled. Another thing I noticed is that the scooter modulates power when you’re riding at top speed on flat ground. It’s subtle, but you can feel it speed up and slow down, kind of like it’s trying too hard to maintain exactly 22mph.
Not bad. You got some good range out of it, and i wasn't surprised that it overheated on you. It's also happened to me, lol. Mine gives me the overheating warning at about 54C with boost mode off. Now, with boost mode one, i do see an increase in torque, which is nice, but it only lasts for like the first 20% of the battery, once its goes below, 80% it goes back to normal for me. as for the overheating part, it does overheat on me once it reaches 48C. 😅 this was an excellent video, man. Very well done, you left nothing out, you were honest and kept things real. 😎👊
Thanks so much! Yah not sure why things are overheating all of the sudden. Last summer I was riding in 105F temps and never had an issue. Now the scooter keeps yelling at me 😅. I’ll have to try riding around with boost mode off like you mentioned.
I’m so glad that you made a new G2 video. I just sent back the KQI 300X, and am finally going to get this (been wanting it since last year/ but didn’t pull the trigger due to those early issues)! I send people from our FB group your way whenever they have any G2 questions. 🙂
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I will continue to cover the G2 because Segway always makes changes to it and sometimes those changes make it feel like a new scooter haha. It’s a workhorse of a scooter and their app is second to none. I’m also excited to see how their new ZT3 Pro scooter performs.
@@tomsgadgetgarage No problem! I have a beef w/Segway! As an owner of a Max G30P w/SEAT…they still haven’t made an OEM seat for the G2, but continue to make newer products. Now, 3rd party manufacturers are stepping in. 😡 I have nothing but Segways: Max G30P 🛴 x C80 🛵
That’s awesome! Yah I didn’t think much about scooter seats until I tried one. Makes riding these things so much more relaxing. It looks like there’s one on AliExpress with some kind or square orange hardshell bag looking thing under the seat.
My experience with 1.11.1 is you get approximately 20% more average wattage going up long steep hills (~700w previously, ~900w on 1.11.1), and the actual NOS acceleration needs to "recharge". It does not recharge if you are going up a hill continuously, it only recharges downhill or when you are slowing down/stopped. But it will recharge all the way down to 10% battery, and give the full 1300-1400w. I have also noticed the NOS accerleration turns off after 17mph, or 10-15 seconds, whichever comes first. The speedometer turns red when it is active. Strangely, I have also noticed improved range on 1.11.1, which makes no sense if it's using about 20% more power overall. It could be the regen being better as you mention (instead of applying full brake over about 22mph out of the blue (aka ghost brake), it progressively increases regen the more you go above 22mph) but I feel it wouldnt make SUCH a huge difference overall. I haven't had any issues overheating, but I also only weigh 130-140lbs. I have seen it get up to 40c on really hot days though.
Yah I was definitely surprised by the remaining battery. I feel like regen has been improved quite a bit compared to earlier firmware. I wonder if there’s a temperature component to the recharging of boost? That could be why my boost vanishes even on flat ground once I use 15-20% of the battery.
I ride my Hover-1 Journey Max in 100 degree plus weather on a regular basis without a hint of a problem including one ride where I had to ride a flat tire back for the last mile, still no issues at all. Looking forward to the Segway ZT3 Pro review!!
I’m going to try riding around with boost off to see if it has the same battery temperature warning. Yah I was able to ride around throughout last summer without a single instance of overheating. Maybe this boost mode is more conservative with temp thresholds. The ZT3 Pro looks sick. Hopefully it’s priced well.
Hello! What firmware is your app showing? This firmware is 1.11.1. Once installed, you can go to the settings of sport mode menu and set acceleration to Boost. I'm not sure if Segway has pushed 1.11.1 to 100% of users yet. They usually slow-roll the updates. It showed up for me a a few weeks back.
@@tomsgadgetgarage Where do I look for that? Under the device Info - Firmware it has three sections. Bluetooth is v. 1.11.0 and Master control is v.1.76 and Batter is v.1.7.5.5
@phototristan ah so you have the previous firmware. I would check periodically and refresh the firmware page. I literally got the update about 3 weeks after they started rolling it out. They do it in stages and watch for adverse effect/user reported issues. That way if something is wrong it’s not impacting all users at once.
Great job on this review I think your spot on with how you give us the data don't fill it in with a lot of fluff I was just curious how far when you said you made it to the top and you had to walk in another $150 ft $150 ft to where you ended up in this video or 150 ft beyond this spot in the video also you really made up my mind about being able to buy this scooter for my wife for a commuter scooter she doesn't have anywhere near the amount of issues that you had in this test video I think this thing is really an overachiever for what it is Thanks again for your great video
Thanks! So there’s a steep part near the very top that I have to walk it about 150ft or so. Basically a little past where it stopped. It used to be able to make it prior to the firmware updates. Once past that section it makes it up. I was also riding in pretty warm temps. But even with the 150ft thing, it still made up pretty much the whole mountain. Great scooter all around, especially the suspension.
Apparently they paused the rollout of the update until they address some issues. That’s at least what some folks have commented here as well as on Reddit.
Apparently here in the US they are reviewing European standards to see if similar restrictions should be adopted here. I hope they don’t. They don’t have any kind of standards like that for cars and trucks. Plus, we’re all users of the road. Doesn’t make sense to heavily restrict one group while allowing the other free rein. I can drive a Mini Cooper or a McLaren, but at the end of the day, the speed limits are the limits. I think part of the issue is there are lots of people doing crazy stuff out there which paints an awful picture. But there are also people driving cars like maniacs which can do a whole lot more damage than a single person on an electric kick scooter or bike. It’s my understanding you can only rent the scooters in the UK but not own one personally for use on the roads, right?
@tomsgadgetgarage I am not sure about renting the scooters. Maybe if you can, they are still restricted to 250w. I have seen a few people riding scooters but mainly around the London area and not in person but in people's videos. Maybe they are rented, not sure. They will be restricted though to 250 watts that's for sure. Not as popular in the uk as e bikes are so dont know much about them. Thanks for the reply. Heres to your next video.
Ah good to know. Yah they do a lot of scooter rentals here in the US. The only problem is people leave them scattered all over the place when they are done renting because you can technically leave them wherever when you’re done riding.
@tomsgadgetgarage Are they tagged in any way, just wondered if people actually see them lying around and take them home and use them as their own scooter. P.S. If you get the chance look into the Varla Eagle One Pro scooter, looks like a cool scooter saw someone riding it on youtube.
I haven’t but I also saw a video with it getting some epic range. Maybe Paul from ESG? Having a big battery is a huge plus because you don’t have to worry about range anxiety. I hope to review VMAX scooters in the future though.
I think it’s solid if you need to get going fast from a stop. But I’m noticing the temperature goes up quicker, even on flat ground. I rode all over the place last summer and never had a single instance of overheating. Good news though is you can always disable boost mode.
In a previous comment I said you'll be disappointed with boost. Even on flat it's most of the time not engaging. You start fresh from home and you have it. Do a complete stop 1 minute later and start from standstill and it won't engage which is strange. Also I noticed on flat that sometimes the scooter act weird, like if it slightly accelerate for a quarter of a second then no more then again and found that behavior annoying so I ended up disabling it.
Yah I wish it lasted longer throughout the battery range. There’s an improvement in hill climb performance in the very beginning then things kind of taper off. I think it’s a good first step to making the G2 more competitive from a performance perspective. Heat is an issue though, at least for me riding around in 85F temps at 203lbs. Someone mentioned their boost lasts throughout the battery range down to 10%. Mine definitely doesn’t do that :(.
Haha thanks! I’m normally 170 but after my marathon last year I had a gallbladder attack. That derailed my post marathon running for a month then I got super lazy and kept saying I’ll run again tomorrow 🤣. And here I am, scooting all over the place instead of running LOL!
That’s definitely not right. Check the speed settings in the app and make sure the max speed for sport mode is set to something like 20 or 22mph. The menu is called custom settings of sport mode or something like that.
For these I’d honestly recommend a dual motor scooter. The endurance climbs do put quite a bit of strain on most single motor scooters. Basically maxing out performance the whole way up.
