Heck of a recovery 👌 Maybe some drop down legs on the rear of the wrecker would help when only using the boom/ winches to lift. With legs seated firmly on the ground you could get full use of the hydraulics & winches, without giving up that much to the suspension. Just a thought 🤷‍♂️. Great video, keep em coming !

    • @bluegrallis

If the wrecker had a tow bar, like the roll back, that probably would have done the job of outriggers.

Hydraulic spaded outriggers on swivels. Line them up against the load and set them in. This will give you a ‘Firmer Foundation’ and move your center of balance even farther to the rear, helping keep your nose on the ground.

Paul, I wasn't there so this is just from what I see but next time you might find it a little better to keep the boom as fully retracted as possible. That will keep it from rotating the front end up so easily. Again, I am not there but have run hydraulic boom wreckers many years ago. Not exactly in those situations though. LOL.

When I was 6 years old, I sometimes got to go out on a wrecker call with my step-granddad. He drove an old, well maybe not so old back in 1954, as it was a 48 Studebaker wrecker. Once we went out and the car that went off the mountain road went pretty far down a ravine. The wrecker would lift the front wheels off and granddad called for the 4 heaviest fellows to jump on the front bumper. Wheels back down and wrecker pulled the car out. Wish there were go-pro's back then so I had a record of those days. They were the best days of my childhood.

Paul I'm sorry to say that I think you need to watch a video on how to actually use a recker boom. Having your boom fully extended like that was the whole issue. All you had to do is bring your boom back down and keep it as low as possible and you would have had no trouble doing exactly what you wanted to do. Having your boom extended all the way like that is why your front wheels came off the ground as soon as you put any tension on those wenches. You were putting your leverage in the wrong place

Great rescue. Suggestion on the use of the boom. I realize you were trying to lift the trailer, but a shorter boom would still do that, and the front of the truck would have more leverage over the boom. With the boom fully extended, the trailer had more leverage to tip the truck. So in the end I would try to use the shortest boom you can, so you have the most leverage pulling the load. Amazing truck.

I cant help but wonder if Paul’s Caterpillar mini-excavator I’ve seen in several videos would be of help in these types of jobs. I’m sure that has a lifting of capacity of close to 2k, if not certainly a pulling capacity of 2k lbs with the issue of traction and weight being eliminated with steel tracks, which were both issues in this rescue.

I laugh when ever I see the word "light" on a huge RV because I know that it is anything but light. Great job getting it back on solid ground. Thanks again for sharing.

Pilot's use check lists, your work is just as important .A check list of things to take, i.e. Headsets, water, medic kits, etc.. Trying to be helpful cuz we love your show! Great video. Love the scenery!

I practically SHI💩 my pants just watching this video!!! Man your good because I though that rig was going to slide off the edge for sure. This guy never lost his cool while I was on the edge of my seat. I guess that’s why he’s the professional at what he does because he never broke a sweat while I damn near shi💩 my pants just watching.

It still amazes me of some of the recoveries everyone does seem to me if you are going to own big rigs or trailer in general you should know your skill level and your equipment capabilities especially if your family is with you if you get into something and your actually out on a trail or wheelin for the day you fully expect it these people amaze me great video Chad and All his Rats😅😅😅😅

If I ever get in trouble, I want Paul Cox to show up. He rolls up, hasn’t the faintest idea what to do but makes it up on the fly, doesn’t get ruffled, calm demeanor, instills confidence, gets the job done with quiet humor, and downplays his success with an aw shucks manner. Yeah, I want him to show up.

Love Your Videos, Tip from a Wrecker operator, leave your boom short and park closer with the same setup you would've gotten it the first time 😋

Everyone so calm considering, a good lesson. You all probably already thought about this but maybe some kind of outrigger setup off the back frame like a regular tow truck has for when it's squatting/sliding like that? Got it done without it anyway! Thanks for a great vid.
