You know Lyn what you said at (3.06) is what I do for my desert roses ... they only need to go into the next size up pots, if I was to put them into a very large pot, they sort of go into a dormant/shock sort of stage and the soil mix is somewhat to what you use, but I use a fair bit of sand (for drainage purposes) ... I now have 723 plants, I lost a few in the floods we had here, but all is good now. Great video you’ve shared with us, thank you Lyn and thank you to Han for filming it. 👍🏼🌵💙🌵❤️🌵🧡🌵💜🕊
WOW Cher :-D thats so wonderful you have 723 plants :-D they are so beautiful and the flowers you share on Instagram are spectacular WOW soooooooo BEAUTFUL :-D its such a shame that you lost some in the floods though, the weather can be out of our with our plants

Trichocereus cacti actually respond well to overpotting so that pot is fine. I let my roots colonize the soil from edges of the pot, then repot them frequently. Those little trays are perfect for seedlings.

Those look great Lyn, so rewarding growing cacti from your own seed :) i use Cactus Focus Re potting Mix, as that is a very sandy fine soil, but then add lava rock and pumice along with a fine grit and a very little cactus mix from someone else but it has bark bits in it. so far it seems to be working really well and drains fast, also use clay pots as i keep my cacti in a un heated conservatory so i want them to dry out fast. ive just had to pot up seedlings, first ever cacti grown from seed, the bigger ones had own small pot, the smaller ones in a tray but more space for them to grow as they were struggling and some die in between others. but they all good now. and they are indoors :) the only thing whats taking longer is the living stones but gather they slow growers anyways. never realized on just how much space i will need as it was my first try so i bought a few different mix packs plus some my own seeds so ended planting loads, prob have 100 or more. hopefully turn it into a little online shop, as it was my first go i used all the methods i could find, bag, tray, the tray seemed to get the better results, but the small tray very slow growing. next batch i plan to do not mixed but hopefully more rare ones but first is find more space as bathroom window sill already two layers in height but by then hopefully they can go in the cooler room :)
Thanks so much Steven :-D it really is so rewarding growing cactus from our own seed, and thats wonderful that you have potted up your first cacti grown from seed, yes Lithops are very slow growing and can take a good couple of years to reach a small size, thats fantastic you have 100 or more seedlings and its going to be so amazing to watch them grow over the weeks and months and years, thanks so much Steven for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX

They look great in those green pots Lyn, like little military cacti 😂 While not a huge fan of cereus types I certainly wouldn’t mind a San Pedro in my collection. Great video as always guys 😊👍☀️🌵

A good rule regarding pot size, whether you are growing cacti and tropical plants susceptible to root disease under constantly moist, cool conditions at the rootzone: when potting-up, opt for as small a size pot as you can get away with. Pot-up gradually. If the pot you use is oversized, it means that, when you water, a large volume of potting mix will remain moist for prolonged periods, creating favourable conditions for anaerobic pathogenic bacteria and fungi. The dry-down period between waterings is what keeps the root system healthy, as fresh oxygen (air) can only be drawn into the pockets/voids of the potting mix once water has been depleted. A smaller pot allows for a quicker dry-down period. By far, overwatering is always more harmful to plants than underwatering. For some plants, a little drought stress does it good.
So very true words Gary and I follow this rule too :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comments and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald isle for a wonderful day today XXXXXX
These are real cuties Lyn! Love watching you repotting! May I ask please: how is it that the little ones have spines and the big one doesn't? Is it because you cross pollinate it with a spiny cactus? Thanks for sharing your videos! Sending you Lyn and Hans lots of love and hope you have a wonderful afternoon!
Its amazing with the spines Sylvia, because when these Trichocereus pachanoi's are seedlings they have spines like normal types of cactus, but as they mature and grow taller ( 3 feet plus ) the spines shorten and then are almost non existent on the mature Trichocereus Pachanoi cacti, I think its because the young seedlings are at more risk of attack from animals in their natural habitats when they are young, and they produce spines as a form of protection, as they age these cacti produce alkaloids just under their skin to act as a natural insecticide and animal repellent, nature truly is remarkable, its a shame it doesn't act as a natural mealy bug repellent haha, thanks so much Sylvia for your wonderful comments and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Malta for a terrific Tuesday XXXX

Hi Daniel :-D so happy you love the cacti, it can depend on the type of cactus and the rate at which they grow, but its best to wait until the seedlings are about an inch high before transplanting, but if the cacti are growing crowded in the seed trays then its best to separate them then, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, and wishing you a fantastic plant powered upcoming weekend XXXX
I have some Pachanoi seedlings that are half that size... about a year old, and very healthy... if I cut the top off of one would it make pups, or die? What age would it have to be in order to survive taking a cutting off of it? I want to graft some slower growing Matucana with some faster Cinnaguella Valley. I really like the color of your seedlings. Were they under LED's or in the Polly tunnel?
Hi Parnell and Jakaiya :-D I hope you are both keeping well, thats fantastic you have seedlings of Pachanoi, if you cut the top off them they would pup out from the top, and they would definitely survive even if they are still young, but ideally its best to wait until they are bigger in height, at least the size of the ones in the vid, I have had a few snails bite off the tops off a couple of them last summer haha, and they are starting to pup from the top :-D I had these cuties under the LED grow light in the grow room for the first year but have had them in the polytunnel over the past couple of years, thanks so much Parnell and Jakaiya for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you both lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX

Hi again and thank you for your video! I love all your Pachanoi (is it pronounced pack- annoy or Patch-annoy? ), I really hope mine get to flower on day. I also plan to cross pollinate my san pedro, scoulacola, super pedro, pedro macho and crested san pedro or nitrogen as the seller has named it. I love these types of cacti and the cultural history behind them. I didn't realize Hans has a channel so I am going to subscribe, cant wait to see his cacti and his perspectives 😀🙂💚🌵 Take care and stay positive in these trying times💚💚💚🌵🌵🌵🙂🙂🙂
Thanks so much Tony :-D so happy you love the Pachanoi, it can be a bit confusing with the pronunciation haha, I say Pack-annoy but a lot of growers pronounce it Patch -annoy, thats fantastic you are planning on doing some cross pollinations in the future, these cacti really are so extra special, and thank you so much for subbing to Hans too
thanks so much for your wonderful love and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Monday XXXX
Hi Allister :-D yes we have some of our cacti outside for spring and Summer here in northern Ireland, we bring them into the polytunnel or the house for Winter though, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful day XXXX
Hi Gary :-D I am lucky I have not encountered this only on my Pereskioposis cacti and I pruned them back, sometimes it happens if too much fertiliser is given or too much warmth in lower light levels and I will make a video on this in the coming weeks :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald isle for a FANTASTIC Friday XXXXXX
I water my six inch trichocereus quite often, about once every week when the soil is completely dry to the bottom of the pot, but I only give him very small amounts of water, since I am aware of the risk of root rot. Or would it be better to give him the amount combined, once a month? He is very bright green at the top and growing, but also has white dots all over him. Could that be due too much water, or is he just "ugly", not sick? :D
Hi there :-D these cacti can be well watered at this time of year as long as the soil in the pot dries out in between watering them :-D I would give them a good water so the soil is thoroughly soaked and then allow the soil to dry out in between waterings before watering them again :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald isle for a FANTASTIC Friday XXXXXX
i feel, i need plenty of these dudes for hedge or something... since thay can grow so tall hope someday... my friday isnt good enough without my household protection of trespassers
I suggest for that purpose to use a variation of trichocereus that has actual nasty spines! Same columnar architecture but all thorny! There is of course variations pachanoi that has spines but maybe easier to find would probably be the trichocereus Bridgesii! or Peruvianus ...they are still the in demand coveted "san pedro" and in the case of Bridgesii especially even more in demand....likely for high alkaloids content is my guess ...which is another point to consider no matter which trichocereus you plant ....there IS a chance someone will come by chop some down now and then because they want mescaline....just saying is all BTW if you go back to the beginning of the video where the camera pans to the "mother" plant? Check out the one two plants to the left...A Bridgesii if I am not even mistaken ....hopefully the Daddy of here babies?
You gotta be kidding??!!!! If true, then I am all the more keen on procuring one of these cacti. Absurd laws drawn up by short-sighted moronic control freaks are to be scoffed at. It is just a plant, for Christ's sake.
Still available from UK sellers on eBay so get them while you can if this is true. I can’t find any information online about it. Possession, sale, transport and cultivation are all still listed as legal for the UK for all psychoactive cactus including Peyote, and San Pedro 🤔
WOW I have not heard that either, hopefully its not happening as these are some of my most favourite plants, but nothing would surprise me with these crazy rules and banning, thanks so much PhantomAudio83, Gary Card Seeds, and Cacti Mania, and Sam Hudson for your wonderful comments and for watching and sending you guys an abundance of love and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald isle for a FANTASTIC Friday XXXXXX

The parent plant looks just like what a lot of folks are calling "PC Clone" ...it was most all I had until recently ....I was ignorant and did not understand how many wonderful variations there are ....Maybe your babies were the result of pollination from what looks like a big bridgesii? Hopefully? Not that there is anything bad about the PC except it just seems obnoxious that a single cultivar has rather taken over AS pachanoi in the world outside of their native South American homes ... need more variations in the world!
Thank you so much Dougie for the info on the PC clone :-D its very much appreciated and there are so many variations now I agree :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a wonderful weekend XXXXX

Just to make sure I heard correctly, you have cacti growing outside in northern Ireland?
Hi Allister :-D yes we have some of our cacti outside for spring and Summer here in northern Ireland, we bring them into the polytunnel or the house for Winter though, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful day XXXX
Do you ever encounter etiolation (stretching) on any of your cacti and succulents due to lack of light?

They've banned the sale of San Pedro's in the UK now if i'm not mistaken. That's the world we live in....
PhantomAudio83 that’s terrible
You gotta be kidding??!!!! If true, then I am all the more keen on procuring one of these cacti. Absurd laws drawn up by short-sighted moronic control freaks are to be scoffed at. It is just a plant, for Christ's sake.
@@garycard1456 Seeds see to still be obtainable but both San Pedro & Peyote live potted plants have all vanished from vendors.
What kind of fertilizer do you use mine are on their second year
Hi Sam :-D I use a wonderful fertiliser by Maxicrop for Tomatoes haha but I use it at half the strength to encourage blooms and growth, here is a link to a video I made on how and what I use to fertilise my cacti and succulents : ua-cam.com/video/Re7pQkHm-aM/v-deo.html thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald isle for a FANTASTIC Friday XXXXXX

Did all your seeds survive germination?
Hi Ramica :-D about 40% germinated :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald isle for a FANTASTIC Friday XXXXXX
Would you say it's too late in the year to try sowing seed now?
You can sow indoors all year round :)
Hi Ryan :-D this is a great time of year to grow seeds because of the longer day length and you can sow seeds any time of year if you can provide the extra heat and grow lights during the Winter :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald isle for a FANTASTIC Friday XXXXXX
Do you have any websites where we can buy seeds or any of these cacti online?
Hi Les :-D yes you could try kakteenhaage.com and uhligkakteen.com and cactusshed.co.uk and cactusshop.co.uk I am pretty sure that they will mail out worldwide too :-D Good luck with purchasing and thank you so much for watching XXXX

@@LesDL69 Hi Les, I think that most of them would mail out to the U.S but it may be a bit costly with the mail costs XXXX
