  • Yamaha Banshee 350 freshly rebuild in 2016. It had been a couple of years since the Banshee saw a fresh top end so I decided to tear her down. While she was apart I went ahead and replaced the crank as well. Just a little video to show the parts going together and then my first couple of test rides around Crazy D's backyard.

      +robloxdude101 in my opinion ride whatever you enjoy more bud. maybe she will let you ride hers for a test ride first to see if you like it? personally the Banshee has completely ruined just about every other quad for me because they all just feel slow now lol. The 700 still has a lot of power and the 450 is really agile, great for jumping and cornering but the Banshee is the only one that will absolutely scream at you. that being said don't worry about what your girlfriend rides, just enjoy the ride! what kind of honda do you have?

    My buddy is thinking of trading his 06 YFZ for a 2001 banshee and is worried that it won't perform in a MX track unless he spends $2k on a front suspension set up. The banshee already has the wider axle and has been bored out to 390 something I think.

    How much did the complete rebuild cost and how often do you have to rebuild a banshee ?

    • @trailblogger
      @trailblogger  8 років тому

      the top and bottom rebuild kit was $599 on ebay from seller inland_atv here is a link to the kit I used ua-cam.com/video/pjeI9VDmj64/v-deo.html

    • @trailblogger
      @trailblogger  8 років тому +1

      I bought my banshee used for $1500, I spent about $500 on the clutch and single carb kit to get it running right. so I paid about $2000 then I ran that for about a year. After a year I decided to rebuild it and put a fresh top end in it (piston and rings) for about $200. I ran that for about more years and decided to upgrade it to a cool head and replace the top and bottom end with fresh everything. That was the kit that I just used which cost me $599. you can ride it for a few years in between top ends if you are take care of it and don't mistreat the engine. Do you break in heat cycles correctly and don't overrev the engine more than needed. I tend to ride the living crap out of mine so I rebuilt it sooner than later in order to avoid catastrophe and just to keep it running smooth with plenty of power.

    Tried my buddies freshly rebuilt Banshee today. I loved it. The power on that thing coming from my 04 YFZ450 was nuts! It was also the first time I'd ever ridden a 2 stroke and I want one now. I'm just concerned about how reliable the engine will be. But I also have the same concern on my 450. I don't like going hard on it because it feels ratty at high RPM and just doesn't make confortable power going fast like the Banshee did. So, I looked online and there's a person nearby willing to trade his 01 Banshee with some goodies on it for a 4 stroke. Do you think it would be worth it for me to trade him my YFZ450? I play in pits a lot but most of my riding is on roads and the banshee felt much more comfortable in that element. Thanks

    • @trailblogger
      @trailblogger  8 років тому

      well everyone has their preference bud. I love the two stroke but enjoy having a four stroke in the herd to switch it up and ride also. I have the Banshee 350, a YFZ450, and a Raptor 700. If you held a gun to my head and made me pick just one I would say the Banshee stays. You can setup either of those quads to do any style of riding (trails vs moto vs drag vs hill climber etc) I keep my quad trail friendly, it is a relatively mild build but still scary enough that I enjoy riding it. Speaking for reliability, the banshee will require a set of rings once in awhile but the four strokes need their valves adjusted occasionally or major catastrophic failure can happen. Neither is a big deal if you are comfortable working on bikes. A Banshee will last a long time in between builds if you don't over rev and run good pre-mix oil, keep your air filters clean etc. Same can be said for a four stroke though if you take good care of it, change oil frequently, let is warm up in between rides, and like I said check/adjust those valves at the right maintenance intervals. They are both a lot of fun and have their advantages, the two stroke twin is a screamer while the four stroke singles have a ton of low end torque available.

    • @Zerunox339
      @Zerunox339 8 років тому +1

      +TrailBlogger I see. thanks for the input. like I said, I do a lot of open roads and the YFZ just feels like it's unhappy. I don't like going slow. And it doesn't feel right when I try to go quick down a road. I think i might try to do a trade

    Hey TrailBlogger good videos keep them up. I had a question maybe u can help me out my banshee keeps on spewing out coolant when I run it and it usually does it with in 20 min any ideas on what it could be.

    • @trailblogger
      @trailblogger  8 років тому

      +MrWasaby if you bike is overheating that could be from a lean condition caused by an air leak. you might also take your water pump apart and makes sure the bearing and impeller are all in good shape. If your water pumpe gear or impeller goes out it won't cycle the coolant through the head like it should and it will boil over the overflow tube. Is it coming from the overflow? You can check for air leaks by doing a leak down check.

    • @MrWasaby
      @MrWasaby 8 років тому

      +TrailBlogger thanks for the quick reply. it's actually coming from the front in the radiator on the right hand side I tried looking at it when it leaks but I guess I'll have to take the front plastics to get a better look.

      MrWasaby could be as simple as a bad radiator cap or it could be overheating and your overflow tube isnt hooked into the radiator at the overflow like it should be. I run an inline temp gauge on my banshee and it really helped out- you know right away if there is something wrong because the temp will go up quick

    • @jebronlames5763
      @jebronlames5763 8 років тому +1

      +TrailBlogger Yeah, i just remembered that most two strokes have almost twice the power as their 4 stroke brothers. Same reason why 250 four strokes compete with 125 two strokes.

      Craig Reimer good move, my YFZ450 and 700 both have the dual row carriers but the banshee has my "spare" carrier installed right now which is only a single row. I have a dual row aluminum carrier sitting on the shelf, just need to press some fresh bearings in there and reinstall it

    Did you have to put silicone on your head to get it to seal all the way? My buddy just put cool heads on his banshee, and it is leaking coolant into the cylinder, we are assuming it is the o-rings not sealing properly, but they are brand new

    • @trailblogger
      @trailblogger  8 років тому

      +Nick Moskal No I didnt use any silicone on the head. I actually used a tiny bit of grease to hold the o rings in place while I installed it. you most likely pinched a ring. are just the o rings news? is the head used? have you tried laying it on something perfectly flat to make 100% sure it is flat.

    • @RamYodler
      @RamYodler 8 років тому

      +TrailBlogger it is a new head, I think he is just going to get new o-rings, what mods does your raptor have on it?

    • @trailblogger

      Nick Moskal raptor motor is basically with full trinity exhaust, programmer, and pro design intake.

    • @trailblogger
      @trailblogger  8 років тому

      I have owned many dirt bikes myself, some two stroke. The Banshee ruined me forever lol. I just like riding it now. I have one of our banshees setup with a single 35mm Keihin PWK carb so it hits more like a dirt bike for tighter trails and tracks, our other banshee I keep setup with the dual 28mm Mikuni stock carbs for better top speed on the flats. Fun to ride them both.

    • @TriptoCo
      @TriptoCo 8 років тому +1

      +TrailBlogger Appreciate the quick reply bud (subing just due to that) I'd go for the single carb', I ride the woods here in Colorado, and the dunes we have here, and in MOAB. This could be a blast at both man!

    • @trailblogger
      @trailblogger  8 років тому

      For the sand I would probably stick with the dual carb setup or get a larger single carb (say a single 39mm pwk instead of the 35mm pwk I run). I wanted the best throttle response I could get out of her (like a dirt bike). I ride about 95% on the dirt in the woods and only get to ride the dunes about 1 weekend a year if we are lucky enough to get time/money together for a vacation. (This year we skipped it to work on the old fixer upper house we just bought).
