this was her second time out there ever even riding in the dunes. I thought she made a pretty decent run at it! lol if you listen you can hear her hit the buried log and lose momentum. need 22s in the rear and we probably both would have scooted right up.
chuck 4379 Agreed! This was our first time trying it and I gave the banshee all she had! It is definitely more steep in real life. I think my chain was either skipping from being too loose or sprocket hub stripped out because I could hear my chain just jumping around back there. If you listen you can hear it.
+Justin Blanchard I kind of was too on my first try lol I thought she did pretty good though considering this was her first time ever in the sand on the 700
I live in nodak. in my area we have what was once a really beautiful place to go but since so many people are coming from out of state it has started looking more and more like a trash can. it's not a good place to take your family and there's a lot of nails and glass all over. so all I get is flat gravel country roads:( once I get out of school and get some good flow I'd love to come to a place like this to ride
She smacked a lock in the sand. It's hard to see in the videos but there are logs in the sand you get high centered on. When you smack one it robs all your momentum. With 22s we would have been fine.
If your gonna start going to the dunes on a regular basis I would invest in some hauler paddle tires. They hook up a lot better then those ITP's and there a must on a banshee. Nice video BTW :).
Zinyak Bieber Agreed. We watched a 400EX walk right up it after this but he had 22" haulers on instead of the 20" stars like we have. If I can afford it before next trip the Shee is definitely coming laced up with new paddles.
Zinyak Bieber Also if you listen you can literally hear my chain skipping the whole time I am losing speed up the hill. not sure if it was my axle hub or chain yet exact, have not tore into her just yet to find out.
Zinyak Bieber I think that might be the problem. I have a couple of different sprocket hubs and axles. I just switched to this one right before the trip because it looked to be in better shape than my old one. I havent taken it apart yet to see but it just got worse and worse after this.
Call_M3_Mr_T Not sure. I was just proud she made it up that far on her first try ever without killing herself. Video does not do it justice, the hill really is steeper in person.
@@trailblogger Okay, that makes sense. I kept replaying the clip so I could see what happened. Sounded worse than it was. I probably would have stopped too
@@cwirtz1854 if you listen closely my banshee was actually skipping in second gear I lost the transmission on that hill that day from one of the cogs stripping out. At the time I thought my chain was skipping on the rear sprocket but it was all tight when I went back down the hill. I was so close lol
@@trailblogger I'm from Oklahoma and believe it or not we have some dunes 2 hours from where I live. Riding out there you quickly learn that if you have anything going out the sand will finish it off. Quick question, why did you stop using the HMF muffler on the Raptor and how easy is the fuel optimizer to use?
@@cwirtz1854 the HMF was a nice clean setup easy to install. I did not mess with the fuel mappings that came with it as they were pre-configured for a 700 beforehand. HMF has the numbers they recommend for each exhaust on the website though at the bottom. I put the HMF on the shelf to try something different. The Alba exhaust and tune are much, much different. I feel like it has a lot more power but also a lot harder to control as I'm not used to all that extra bark. I love both setups, the HMF is a little quieter and easier to control while the Alba I feel is a more free flowing system that really opens up the 700.
Racing _52 There is some pretty heavy wood under the sand there in the middle. You can't see it but if you are running 20" tires in the rear you will smack your swingarm on it and it really takes your momentum away. I missed it on the way up for my run but I felt it smack on the way down though.
+Alex Solorio She gave it a good run. This was both of our first times on Widowmaker so both of us were just tryin not to die lol. The ITP sand star paddles we were both running are just not good enough traction when you got other quads ripping that trail up using 12 paddle haulers. There was a lot of buried wood in the center of the track that you get high centered on. She said she hit something solid and that's why she killed it. Once you lose you momentum it's kind of the end of that try. On one of my earlier runs I actually got a stick wedged in my chain between the back sprocket at the swingarm.
she is a good rider, it's a lot steeper than you might think by the video. Also her first time in the sand on the raptor 700, I thought she did pretty good. that's about where I made it on my first try too. there was a lot of buried wood in the sand, if you listen you can hear her rear swingarm bang hard on something right before she kills it. I think she hit a buried stump
yeah my transmission was skipping but it felt like the chain was too loose and skipping on the sprockets. found out after I got back I had busted the cog inside the trans.
you can actually hear my transmission skipping, I was having a problem with 2nd gear starting to strip out. I also hit a huge buried log in the sand you can't really see in the video but it really kills your momentum when the rear swinger bangs on it at the worst possible spot in the hill. with taller back tires like hauler 22s and a healthy transmission I have no doubt my little 356 build would scurry right up it.
+Noah Komar there are different types of holeshots. The GNCC holeshots are great. Also trying lowering the pressure, you should only run about 5 pounds on the trails.
dodge owner93 the last trip we did the southern dunes near Horsfall the first day, the dunes in the middle by Winchester the second day (Umpqua beach day camp #2), and then drove North to Florence the third day. You could literally get lost out there lol. We met some guys on a side by side that had rented it and were totally lost, I had to whip out my cell phone and show him on google maps where his camp was. Some things I really liked about Florence was that you can ride on the beach, there is a competition hill setup, there is a huge long flat straight away on the sand flats at least a few miles long where you can really open it up and see what your machine can do, there are mini trails through the trees, and there are big dunes with bowls to play in. Pretty much a little of everything all in one riding area.
Illusive I havent had a raptor 350 but I have owned many yamaha warrior 350s which was what they called them before the warrior came out and they are great reliable machines. not the fastest quad out there but very solid and well built.
sandstars dont do well at all vs that hill, but it doesn't matter now as I hear they have shut down this and most of the other tree shots at the oregon dunes :(
yeah I would like to try out a pair of haulers next time we go to the dunes. Really sucks they shut it down. Going to drive me crazy I never made it. I was really closet to the top on one run but my banshee started slipping in gear due to a bent shift fork and stripped gears. You can hear it too well in the video but I started feeling it slip around 1:30 and by the time I got to the steepest part around 1:40 you could hear the gears in the transmission slipping / crunching. All fixed now
Yikes! Yea it really breaks my heart cuz I never made it and finally went out and got double buffed haulers and geared lower so I was feeling pretty good about my chances...ah well. Here's to owl's or w/e *holds up beer*
haha yeah cheers man I know your pain, it drives me crazy I never made it but at least we got to give it a try. My YFZ450 did not fair any better than the banshee. burn450 well we were sitting at the bottom of widowmaker kind of licking our wounds and talking about how far we each got- I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my banshee and yeah this 400ex goes chugging on by, not even really trying hard. looked liked a younger kid, we both kind of laughed and were waiting for him to come back down widowmaker but then we see him coming down Banshee hill instead so he had to of made it!
I was riding by myself a few days ago and I was about to go down a hill then realized that it was damn near vertical. Me being the pussy I am I decided I'd cut left and merge onto another less vertical hill. And in doing so I get caught on a big ass patch of moss which throws me off course and I end up with my left front tire against a tree, and my entire left side off the ground. Literally couldn't do anything but put her in neutral and push it up the hill. Not sure about you, but 450 pounds doesn't go up a hill very well without a fight.
yeah it sucks when you kill it in the deep sand like that on a narrow spot. Wedged in the tunnel. There was a lot of buried wood underneath as well that kept getting caught up in the chain and rear sprocket also.
Not a good spot to have to stop and turn dam that’s a fear of mine with quads at least a bike you could lay over and turn around but a four wheeler could rip
My grandpa and a bunch of friends made banshee hill then the people that went up banshee hill wanted a way down so someone made widowmaker, it was called widow maker because there was a big ass log in the middle of the road that close lines people. But that's gone
It's hard to tell but there are actually logs buried in the sand we were getting high centered on them, that's why we kept loosing our momentum in the middle section there. Easier to just flip it around and ride it back down that to try and back down the whole way over the logs

Arick Hook if you listen you can hear this clicking sound the whole time, that is basically the sound of my transmission slowly dying lol another thing is most people who try this hill climb are running taller paddles- like 22s or bigger in the rear. my banshee only had 20 inch tall tires on the back and I kept high centering on my sprocket and brake disc on the buried logs in the sand.
I would have but I was losing second gear, I thought it was my chain skipping at first but turns out I actually lost second gear inside the trans mission box. that and there was this friggin log buried in the middle of the trail I kept smacking about halfway up and losing my momentum on
The best part of this for me is hearing that a Banshee as clean as yours squeaks just the same as mine! lol
hahah yeah the old suspension needed some lube. the salt and sand really does that to them doesnt it

Hi man which best Banshee or raptor and fast banshee or raptor700
Steep and Sandy. My poor old quad would shit itself if it saw that epic place.
lol girl was praying for her life lmao
Why did she keep coming off the throttle??

+TrailBlogger yeah, every time I go up hill I pull a wheely so it's scury
I would like to know what that place is called, it looks really fun to ride thanks
this is in Oregon near winchester bay
Alright thanks bud
Why did the handle bars jerk to the left when the Raptor died?

wolfpackflt670 we drive about 6 hours to ride the oregon dunes
eh oh well I can always go to the Hatfield-McCoy trail system

LOLOLOLOL! HAHAHAHAHAHAA! LOLOLOL! No.
Uh that 700 should have reverse lol
