Another difference is that European teams are usually "Athletic Clubs" that also have football teams and the fans bring the passions of the stadiums to the Arena. It's the same in North Africa to.a certain degree, here in Morocco for example some football fans show up to basketball or handball games to support the team even if they don't care much about the sport, just for the sake of the colours. I could say that in Europe, North Africa, Latin America, the club is like second motherland. It's very different from the franchise system in the USA. Perhaps college ball is the closest thing since universities are strongly anchored into the identity of the city or the state same as sports clubs in other parts of the world.

I think the passion towards football/basketball clubs in Europe comes from tradition. My father was a supporter of Dinamo Zagreb, my grandfather also, everybody in my family too. You are born into it most of the time. Its more like a religion. In United States the club is just a company that can move to another city if you have the money, in Europe the club is deeply rooted in the community for more than 100 years and in a way represents your town or entire state and all sort of views of that community. Also, supporting some clubs you are showing your political stance, sometimes showing rebelion towards some views etc. Football club is like your first love, you cannot change support to some other team, everything in life can change, but that cannot. I think the passion comes from that. There are also stuff like Ultras and hooligans, "normal" fans etc, but thats another topic :D

Also you can see what happened 2 weeks ago after Panathinaikos got his 7th Euroleague around the stadium and at Greek Streets and Athenian Airport when Panathinaikos Brought Euroleague Trophy back to the Greek Capital. Also you can watch as honorable mentions: Partizan Fanbase, Turks are also good (Galata, Fener) And Specially for basketball Zalgiris Lithuanian team with 45 SOLD OUT home in a row in Euroleague games and really good atmosphere. Their Crowd are also very nice.
The difference is that European leagues don't price out real fans from the games. In the US, only corporate fans can really afford to go to games more than once or twice a year.
This is why the NBA will never become very popular in Europe. It feels way too manufactured with the music, the mascots, the half time nonsense, the celebrities sitting court side and someone singing the Star-Spangled Banner before every game

I've often wondered if the sports franchise system in America weakened bonds of identity with their host communities. It seems rather mercenary how players and even teams change locations. I would guess that some significant number of fans are more loyal to players than teams.
I am 78 (English).... and followed football, and to a lesser degree, cricket, all my life. I have no idea if basketball is played in the UK. I guess it must be, somewhere . I guess knowing the name Michael Jordan is something! But I have never met anyone with the slightest interest in the sport.
Hi there, thank you for your content. I enjoy watching you. Random question? Your pendant that you are wearing... what kind of stone is it? My gf has a similar skin tone as you and I'd love to get her one. Ty
For sheer chaos, nothing I've seen here surpasses the ending of the 2022 Alabama-Tennessee college football game, won by Tennessee on a last second field goal. The goalposts were taken down by the Tennessee fans and thrown into the Tennessee river, for Pete's sake. That said, the Europeans here were more intense than the American ones in my view. Flares? Crazy! And it seemed more of the crowd was involved than with the US examples. There may be some cultural factors at work too. Of course, these examples are cherry-picked; there are US videos that are quite intense.
Greece and Serbia are hot spots for basketball in europe👍 the first team was ARIS -Greeve the 2nd was Red Star Beograd Serbia and the last was Panathinaikos Athens - Greece.✌️
The frequency of games matters. NBA, MLB and College Basketball play too many games... fans don't get as excited by 4 games a week. Monday Night or Thursday night Football is an event. I wonder if that is part of the difference?
The difference between U.S. and Europe (mainly Greece, because I'm from Greece and I've been to most of the stadiums) is easy for anyone to understand: Have you seen Lord of the Rings? Imagine a stadium in Minas Tirith full of people, against a stadium made in the center of Mordor full of Uruk-hai (once we leave the stadium we become humans too, don't be afraid). So simple!
So for the first European video: It's the derby between Aris and PAOK Thessaloniki. The power went out, that's why it was so dark and people had their phones out. Not going to translate the first chant, it's a bunch of bad words toward the opponents and their family :D.
You cannot compare the atmosphere between USA and Europe! I am from Greece and I can tell you that ARIS-PAOK and Panathinaikos-Olympiakos are the most intense basketball atmospheres in the world! The vibes are high! Only Serbians or Turks can understand what I’m saying. Balkan fans are mad and passionate about their teams!
Congratulations on 100k! I gotta say tho playoff basketball or march madness crowds can get crazy. Not as much as Europe with fkn flares💀 just pointing out those American clips were buns
The European basketball fans are not exclusive basketball fans they are fanatics of a specific team and they go to any serious sport to support their team, they also go to voleyball matches but the main sport they have been founded for is Football (not eggball the real football)

Every game, literally every game in Europe is like that 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
*Tip-off*
Announcer: "This game is now postponed."
You'll be able to find posts from American players that have played in Europe...very interesting.
PASSION is easier/important if you have a RIVALRY.
Greece and Serbia are hot spots for basketball in europe👍 the first team was ARIS -Greeve the 2nd was Red Star Beograd Serbia and the last was Panathinaikos Athens - Greece.✌️
I would suggest watching, "American Basketball Players Talking About European Basketball Atmosphere" here on YT.
In America you hear the same in any game in any city no chants specific to the team … defense defense 😵💫
Usual thing in Europe that same football fans are also on basketball games.
We surely love the sports ans thats why we watch. But the thing we adore is our teams. In every sport
Panathinaikos is Greek team, Barcelona is Spain team. The game is from Euroleague game
Thats Belgrade, Serbia.
Red Star fans
football is even crazier. just imagine totally hyped crowd on stadiums holding 200.000 people
Where is that, you asked ? Home court of Red Star Belgrade, Serbia.
The frequency of games matters. NBA, MLB and College Basketball play too many games... fans don't get as excited by 4 games a week. Monday Night or Thursday night Football is an event. I wonder if that is part of the difference?
Thanks for bringing that up, I hadn’t considered it
@@NoProtocol you are a good content creator I would love for you to do a zoom with my students this fall. I’m a professor at Howard University.
So simple!
In Europe it's much more passionate and tribal. People identify with their hometown/Region.
02:21 THE warning of loud sound is for the basketball fans of the GREEK team of ARIS, the GOD OF WAR and the Super3 is their ULTRAS FANS gate.
So for the first European video:
It's the derby between Aris and PAOK Thessaloniki. The power went out, that's why it was so dark and people had their phones out.
Not going to translate the first chant, it's a bunch of bad words toward the opponents and their family :D.
Tbh I went to a few Basketball games in London UK .... the atmosphere was very 'NBA' unfortunately the quality of the Basketball was not so much !
I sold my PlayStation to buy a phone to download UA-cam to watch this video.
Aris fans support any sport even the women u15 basketball team I love them
You cannot compare the atmosphere between USA and Europe! I am from Greece and I can tell you that ARIS-PAOK and Panathinaikos-Olympiakos are the most intense basketball atmospheres in the world! The vibes are high! Only Serbians or Turks can understand what I’m saying. Balkan fans are mad and passionate about their teams!
German soccer-players refer to their fans as "the 12th man on the field"
In Europe home court advantage means lot more then in NBA home court advantage.
What are they chanting, "Its all Greek to me".
Aris Saloniki fans are mental💪❗️☦️♥️♥️
This is why euro players can't be intimidated by crowd once they move to the NBA.
Congratulations on 100k! I gotta say tho playoff basketball or march madness crowds can get crazy. Not as much as Europe with fkn flares💀 just pointing out those American clips were buns
More appropriate title would be Balkan vs USA Basketball Fans
European vs USA football fans next ?
I watched a video about this on the channel in the past (:
The European basketball fans are not exclusive basketball fans they are fanatics of a specific team and they go to any serious sport to support their team, they also go to voleyball matches but the main sport they have been founded for is Football (not eggball the real football)
