This is the first thing I thought of when I heard of Nikki Giovanni’s passing. This convo was such a gem 🥹
Same!!!!!!!!
I am viewing this episode to honor our awesome Nikki Giovanni, RIP!
Me too! 🥰🥹💔
Re: Black Miss America. "You're asking somebody who hates you, are you pretty." -Nikki Giovanni 💯🔥
Harris Re-nee holy shit. I didn’t notice that. Then again, if one really knows Angela Davis and even Nikki, they’re the very last people who would vow for the celebration of literal appearances. People are dying and there are much bigger issues!
Well now!!! Why aren’t today’s Black Queens 👸🏾 & Princess realising this???
I enjoyed this interview so much 🥹 Rewatching 4 years later. Rest Peacefully💕
I'm a single dad with a 14yr daughter. I'm watching this for her...Love this
@karlos roberts, how happy I am that you watched this for your daughter. Thank you king 🙏🏽.
Such Power in your Soul #Father1st
This was wonderful to see, Angela Davis was a professor of mine and UC Santa Cruz and I've had the honor of having her make me delicious tofu (yes it was good), every interaction with her was transformative. During the same period I met Nikki Giovanni at a poetry reading so this was informative and nostalgic for me. I recall during a Black history celebration, Angela introduced me and I recited Nikki's Ego Tripping
Nikki is so blunt and Angela is so elegant they are like yin and yang ☯ on here
Agree, i love Nikki!! She is not afraid to show you her bold, colorful, and beautiful light.
"Black women often aren't exposed to the idea that healing is possible." BAM!💯
No Lie !!!!
Say that
That was the realest thing I heard from recent times and had just recently decided upon seeking it for myself and look at the universal source...Viola @GirlTrek came to me and my daughter, ASE!!!
This interview was great and historic but i wish the guests weren’t interrupted. Maybe im so hungry for more convos like this.
lunaposas I agree. This was a great effort, even though they presented themselves more (or better) as fans that interviewers
I agree, there are times to do away with the interview format and let wisdom speak But all in all an historic moment for all the ladies
I agree with this. Great conversation but the fangirling was really distracting at times.
Agreed
Nikki is so honest, I need more people like her in my life. She speaks truth with no filters of needing to be liked by anyone. Her advise on beauty and confidence is on point.
Raised this way! Thank you 😊 Pops and Mom!
That comes with age.
That "you're asking people who hate you if you're beautiful" was a bar!!! #MicDrop
I'm a young black woman and I truly would love to start a group for black young women to inspire, encourage and uplift. This interview just gave me life to go forward despite this covid.
Wonderous!! These two women have been my heart for over 50+ years. Now at 72 year old I’m thrilled.
Of course we revere their minds, but can we just take a moment to appreciate how amazing these two matriarchs look??
INDEED!
I love Nikki Giovanni's story about the biscuits, I could sit and listen to her talk all day. Love her.
I'm walking down the street in my 'hood (Crenshaw, South Central L.A.) and crying like a little baby at this beautiful video honoring our mothers. Wow, Sis Morgan and Sis Vanessa. What a mighty work this is. Thank you for the beautiful sistas featured honoring their mamas.
I am Nadine the daughter of Betty Ann the daughter of Elmira...Thank you Ladies for bringing us to the table. I enjoyed the legacy of Black Women.
Thank you ❤️
The strength and resilience of Angela Davis and Nikki Giovanni are extraordinary. Lovely to see them happy and healthy. Nikki Giovanni, my grandmother was an incredible caterer, master cook and baker. Her biscuits were legendary. I recall her quickly dipping the glass into hot water before she cut the dough into a circle.
The first poem I ever read from Nikki Giovanni was "Ego Tripping" Thank you Nikki Giovanni for your contribution to society. Many Blessings to you forever.
Omg I love Angela Davis and Nikki Giovanni with all my heart. They are truly amazing and revolutionary women.
Its not the pig feet thats kept her. Its the grace of God. Plant based is lifesaving. Yes please continue the conversation with our beautiful ladies Nikki and Angela. Thanks fir sharing.
Yes I agree with Nikki I cannot be stuck in yesterday I live in tomorrow I tried it keep going. What's the positive in Joy being myself with myself
As an old white woman who wants to end racism, and in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, wants new ways to act, I am grateful to learn about girltrek and will support it. And I have enjoyed this show and love you two dear young women. Thank you
Thank you for feeding my soul. I’m going to do the work!
"I would like to talk about *all* the Black women whose names we do not know."
I give thanks for this conversation. I agree with Dr. Angela Davis! I've been building an international connection with women throughout the Diaspora and the Continent. I'm inspired to keep doing this revolutionary work.
I believe my mom knew, I was going through something, she put me onto this. I appreciate this interview, and I appreciate my mom, thank you, my forever hero!
I'm glad this is posted so I can rewatch and grab some of the nuggets I missed!
I really would encourage the moderators to limit their editorializing when you have such powerful, more interesting guests in your presence.
Sherita Mitchell it’s that new culture of “ive got to put my two cents in, the instagram selfie”
It is 'new' culture & each voice should be welcomed to continue growth in our community.
Great presentation. Great celebration and tribute to you, Black women, and to GirlTrek. Black women are the most important people on earth and always have been.
I truly enjoyed this interview yesterday, and it uplifted me as well. I was honored to meet Angela Davis at Vanderbilt University 2015 at a speaking event, and was honored to meet her afterwards during a meet and greet. She autographed my Look magazine (Sept 11 1970). I will cherish it forever!
Dear Nikki who I met while socializing in NY and Angela I went to school with quite a few Panthers. You ladies were my heroes. I left the states in 1972 with a roundtrip ticket and $25. Love to share the story what you inspired.
My name is Ernestine Elizabeth Washington and I’m the daughter of Mattie Lee who is the daughter on Elizabeth.
This convo fed my very SOUL on Friday and several times since. Thank you!
"...imagine how it is that we are here today as a direct consequence of the collective imagination of poor Black women who *walked* to work as opposed to riding the bus."
What happened to your hands sister and you going to say you have carpal tunnel you need to talk to somebody who knows somebody who knows something to do something for you and somebody will do
My two favorite people ❤️❤️❤️
We need to WALK in the direction of freedom. Not TALK but WALK. Thank you, Madame.
Only on 7 minutes of the video but I am beyond proud to be a black woman.✊🏽🙏🏽 speaking love, light, and life over this movement and over these ladies.
Nikki and Andela have such great humor and intellect. They are so magnetic and clear. Kudos to #Girltrek. I am the daughter of Lillan, Evelyn, Dicah and Alice.
This was so inspiring to me, I am proud to be a black women because of women like them!
"The source of so much of my fear was that I felt alone... It wasn't that I ceased feeling afraid, but the emotions of gratitude toward those who were generating solidarity became so vast that... those emotions overwhelmed the sense of fear."
"Beauty is about FREEDOM; beauty is about LIBERATION."✨ -Angela Davis
P
I love how proud Nikki is of Toni Morrison's Nobel Prize. You could tell that was deeply felt. I love the genuineness.
THIS...an essential conversation. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. These two women have spoken and continue to #SpeakLife. Humbled and thankful to hear the #sound of life from the Black women of yesterday and today. Those who still struggle finding their voice, should take heed to the words spoken on Friday, May 8th and ACT on them. May THIS SOUND continue to be heard in every Black woman's village until every black girl's life reverberates it. #BlackWomenEMPOWER women and their girls, communities and 🌐.
iCelebrateU! 365 ......and the community said Amen!!! ❤️
Powerful! I thoroughly enjoyed this. Love all of you and thank you for carrying the touch. I am an older woman; however, I am very much alive. Nikki and Angela you are my sheroes. Angela my sister would be proud. She stood with you and Huey in San Fransico. Nikki, I love you for keeping it real.

But in all sincerity thank you for uploading this ❤️
Yes all up in grown ppl business, spill the tea Nikki
.....and the COMMUNITY said Amen!!! ❤️
I am finally having the opportunity to watch this, and while I appreciate that this has been organized, I am hoping the next time I tune in, I will be able to thoroughly enjoy the conversation w/o the child-like interruptions which is making it difficult to do so. Thank you, but please correct this sisters.
I want Nikki over for dinner for SURE and thank you for this GEM. We have the POWER
So beautiful, brings tears to my heart ❤️💕🙏
I'm uncertain how this came down my timeline but I am appreciative of this and definitely subscribe
Watching and listening to Angela and Nikki brought back many memories when I was in college during the late 60's and early 70's. This discussion expressed how long Black women have fought and struggled for the rights of Black people especially for our women. Thank you for sharing this GirlTrek's campaign session.
I sincerely want to thank Girltrek for considering these two legends and allowing women who are enamored by their presence as well as new generations of young black women become exposed to such rich history in our culture. I pray that they too will appreciate the poor black women who paved the way through their courage to fight for us so that we too can find our voices. I bow to you! ✊🏾❤️
I'm so proud of this moment, the LEGEND'S of our history together. {I'm so glad they're still with us❤🙅♀️}
I know. We are blessed to have them.
Anybody curious about the French jazz artist that Angela mentioned: Cécile McLorin Salvant is her name
This was an amazing interview; both women online at the same time? Amazing!
This was a great interview. 2 Very special ladies you don’t see often , very refreshing. I just wish they would just let Nikki And Angela finish talking!!
Morgan’s excitement was so addicting lmaoooooooo!! I was already excited, but glad to see her as excited as I would be

"Walk together children. Don't you get weary."
I couldn’t figure out how to get on but I’m glad I was able to experience this today!!! Powerful and wonderful!
Why am I just now seeing this??? This is great!! You ladies did an awesome job with the video!! :)
Love conquers all
So thankful for the opportunity to hear these legends. I grew up reading Nikki in my dorm room, and just feeling so empowered to see these intelligent activest women, who made me see my purpose. Please do this with them again!!
I am a new subscriber and these two women are awesome!
Phenomenal women....great interview!
man if they could've done this interview in June whew.....the world us more than ever
Thank you so much for this dialogue. I loved the conversation about feminism. My master's thesis was called South African Female-Headed Households and Black Feminism. We are powerful.
I was waiting to hear this. "I want us to be internationalists." Thank you Angela Davis.
Two of my favorite women.
Thank you Aunt Nikki for your comments regarding beauty.
❤To all the great African Americans women and especially my moms who are strong and loving and can rise above many things, again much ❤ a very enlightening video clip.
I understand admiration however I'm thinking valuable time was lost with Nikki Giovanni fanning out rather than asking questions that would have resulted in such wisdom. Angela's portion was more substance-filled.
My interest in sharing this is because the importance is hearing about real life thoughts and feelings of the icons rather than how to make biscuits! C'mon this is Nikki Giovanni.
Also, Vanessa's constant interruptions, interjections and nonverbals were distractions. Take notes from Morgan's professional demeanor.
Angela’s bringing up Marielle Franco was perfect. She shows a clear demarcation between her approach to black liberation to Nikki’s. I respect Nikki’s self centered battle but Angela’s input is far more powerful in that it inclusive. A movement of liberation can not be founded on exclusionary principles. Not to diminish Nikki’s legendary contribution.
Thank you, ladies! This was great!
I am the daughter of Jacqueline. She taught me "IT IS BETTER FOR PEOPLE TO RESPECT YOU THAN TO LIKE YOU."
May the good Lord bless you girls and your endeavor! I am 84 and remember when Angela Davis had an outdoors school rally at Southwest Jr Collage in Los Angeles,Ca back in 1960 something (can't remember the exact year) Soooo you girls stay focus and I learned how to cook "hot water corn bread" from my mother Dorothy...sigh.....
An absolutely pleasurable conversation with two international women are icons..loved every minute
Absolutely loved this conversation ❤
I wish there was better focus during this time. There was better questions they could have asked Nikki.
"Abolishing prisons...[is] about creating a society that no longer requires prisons as the ways in which it carries out its punishment process. What we have to do is think about education, and housing, and healthcare. All the things that now, during this COVID crisis, are coming the the fore."
This interview was everything I needed in this moment. Thank you Morgan and Vanessa for this. Please, please, please keep us on our toes, keep doing what you do and providing spaces that allow us to know, explore and remember more of who we are.
Thank you Angela for mentioning black transwomen!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💛💛
Thant u guys yes
