Douglas Garner, so true. This is why interviews and dialogue with our elders is so important. Many are suffering with dementia etc. Time is running out. This was everything.

It gave my heart such a good soulful feeling to watch the convo with James Baldwin then to watch this. It was like seeing your grandmother as a young social militant woman, then seeing her again as this wise intelligent remarkable black American... And what really got me is when she spoke about 2Pac. One amazing woman. She gave a talk at Columbia College in Chicago, when I was a student there, and I had the opportunity to be present, and talk (briefly) with her after the main talk. Brilliant.
I am a NYC school teacher and I've always loved Ms. Giovanni. I especially appreciate her making a connection between no church foundation (not religion) and our kids today.
This was so heartwarming, and what a beautiful way to honor her legacy as an amazing poet and activist! I see and hear my aunts and mother in her words of wisdom. Thank you!
What I love about this video is that despite all that Nikki Giovanni has accomplished, and all of the incredible people that she’s known, that she has remained humble. Also interesting to recognize how strong her faith is and how that may relate to the strong faith of both her mother and grandmother. A good interview!
Nikki Giovanni is a national treasure. It's nice to see how people evolve over time. She remains courageous and free. Most importantly, it is good to see that she is happy. She smiles and laughs more now than her earlier videos.
Great interview! She has a beautiful soul. It's so nice to hear memories from a time when the world was so much better. Glad I was born and grew up in the movement era.
I Am A Gemini! I won a poetry contest in 7th grade, at Browne Jr. High in Washington, DC. My teacher as Ms. Boykins, representing Nicki Giovanni. I won $75, and a Nicki Giovanni poetry book based on our black culture around 1978-79. I don’t have the book now, I lost to storage after moving so much. She inspired me, and spoke truth on what we as blacks through, and what we see at home in our families, and our race in what we go through.
It's so healthy to show up and stay in dialogue. For this reason, I love her thoughts and inflections. She's provocative, makes me reflect and want to speak up. For eg, 'learn how to live instead of fight with cancer' made me think that fighting in any situation is a recipe for losing. Fighting sucks life energy where intelligent dialogue is efficient. And, yes, I can imagine the great interactions she had. Humble, yet a magnet for intelligent thought and vibrant interactions. Even if I don't agree with everything, I LOVE listening to her.

I close my eyes to envision the youthful unyielding Nikki , she is not there...and should she be? She served her time and she made an impact when we needed it the most . I loved the interview. I agree with “most” of her statements. However, reading some of the comments...are heartbreaking!! The comments really speak to the mentality and level of ignorance of some people. They are so concerned with how she looks then/now...why look at the interview and not really “hear” the interview. Go to a porn site if you want to look at women and idolize their looks. 🤦🏽♀️. History, wisdom, and class is not possessed by everyone.
Cee Pac she's a much older lady now so what do they expect. All those focussing on her looks just might get to her age one day ....or die younger. I think she's wonderful.
Now that I have time to think about it? Do you think it's more because, at age 28, she was a hardcore militant, saying that religion was a disease and a device for oppression? And now, 50 years later, she's saying that church is good? That's a huge tonal shift, but time mellows everyone.
