I had the exact same reaction and felt bad since my Polish friend was right there. Listen up. Polish dogs are different. They are quite bland, and don't have the spices a regular dog would. Also, most hot dogs are grilled solid. Polish dogs are kind of raw. Also, the sauerkraut is a different taste if you're not used to it. My take is that he expected a grilled flavorful sausage and got got. Props to him, he did what he had to do to keep his job.
We have Polish sausage in Texas and they’re spicy and full of flavor.

Polish dogs are very flavorful and juicy. Not sure what you've had because there's no "rawness" to it. They're similar to a smoked sausage or hot link. Maybe he didn't like the sauerkraut.
