  • In this episode we keep track of how many times Sarah says the word "fall." Clint also covers what gas system you should use and if we will ever make intermediate gas lengths.

    Do a special run of 16" intermediate in any series

  • @marshallr2069

    Wow! I didn't expect to hear my name! And yes, "y'all" is a real word, you hear it plenty down here in Texas. I guess my purposes are a little bit different for the intermediate length gas on a 16". I understand that, as far as recoil impulse goes, there is no appreciable difference between middy and intermediate. The reason why I am interested in an extended gas length is for the purpose of suppression. As I understand it, one of the best ways to reduce gas blowback during suppression is to delay the unlocking of the bolt from the barrel extension. Delaying this gives the suppressor more time to work out all the gasses, so that when the bolt unlocks, the pressure against the bolt face is reduced and thus the back pressure going back to the shooter's face is less, making suppressed shooting more enjoyable. One of the ways I know of to delay the bolt unlock is shortening the dwell time. While other fixes such as increased buffer weight, suppressed BCGS and adjustable gas blocks can change the "forces" part of the impulse, changing the gas length would more directly change the "time" part of the impulse.

      Is your setup with a mid length? I'm trying to get ultra reliable with ability the to soften the impulse. Am I asking too much from a mid length?

    • @theneighborguy
      @theneighborguy 5 років тому

      I have this issue with carbine buffers, that (from most of what I've seen) they seem to be mostly for over gassed rifles. Having the ability to tune for a silencer would be nice with the bleed off gas block, but will it cycle reliably any ammo I feed it when shooting without a can. My brain says I'm asking too much but since you said you have this setup, what, if any issues have you seen? Have you shot atleast a few hundred rnds without incident in your system?

    • @MrScary67
      @MrScary67 5 років тому +1

      @@theneighborguy I actually haven't fired it yet...I am still building it. Honestly, I purchased the VLTOR buffer tube by accident not realizing at the time what it was. Once I read about it I decided to keep it (haven't bought the buffer yet). Since then I've been looking for information about how it performs and whether I not I should get the lightweight BCG I originally planned to get or a standard BCG. I've haven't found any straight answers, even VLTOR said it would be fine....likely going to use standard weight BCG. So now I am re-evaluating the set-up after this video. I do have the VG6 Epsilon and Clint is saying that with the VLTOR it may be taking too much out. I don't want to drop the VG6 so I may consider a carbine buffer setup...or use spacers in the VLTOR tube with a standard buffer (3/4" is all that is needed..Armaspec makes spacers). This may change once I actually fire my rifle.....it's been a slow build...have to save for each over-researched part!

      @@MrScary67 most gas ports are oversized from the factory, to ensure reliable function of most common rounds available. Running a lo mass bcg with a a5 buffer will work if the gas port size isnt disclosed from the manufacturer, and most dont supply that information. But, a properly spec'd barrel should be the foundation upon which everything else is built on. If your gas port is too small, there could possibly be cyclical issues, if too large, extra carbon and faster wearing of parts. Fire that bad boy and watch the ejection pattern, 3-4 o'clock seems to be ideal

  • @lon242
    @lon242 5 років тому +2

    Hmm, thinking of putting a similar setup to the first guy. A lightweight build, 14.5 midlength pencil + pinned 2A T3 (50/50-type fh/brake), lightweight BCG + Superlative bleed-off gas block. A few days ago I ordered a Vltor A5 and went with the lightest A5 buffer I could, 4.6 oz., because I was already impressed with how mild the setup shot with just a carbine buffer. Never shot an A5-equipped gun, just been hearing too many good things to not try it out. I hope I'll see a difference with this build, if not, I've got others to finally test it out on.

Is it worth looking into or I guess what's your opinion and the real pros and cons to it? In the link is where I read about it, and it's the 3rd paragraph down. Thanks and keep up the great work.

    Thanks for answering my question, I appreciate and value your input. I should've put context on that question, but I what I was getting at was, a reliable operation with the ability to bleed any excess gas from hot loads and/or silencer. I wasn't sure if a bleed off gas block + A5 buffer would be siphoning off too much pressure for reliability; if the superalative bleed off block was unnecessary or just a bad combo altogether.
    I'd prefer a flash suppressor MD, just trying to find that unicorn setup on a mild recoiling mid length.
    Thanks again!

    Great video this week! I'm not really into the Fall décor either, however my wife is...so it'll be all "Fall'd" up in here in short order, I'm sure. I do however look forward to Fall. Not sure if y'all are into hunting much, but I always look forward to the fall season, because it aligns with hunting season. Normally a great time to be outdoors in nature, with the leaves changing etc... Here's my QUESTION: Which adjustable gas blocks do you prefer on your builds and why? I've used a number of different adjustable gas blocks, Superlative Arms, SLR, Seekins generic… on my builds. I like the Superlative arms and SLR the best. What's your favorite? Thanks!

    Hold on what a minute maybe I’m hearing this wrong. So you’re telling me that a muzzle device effects the pressure that goes back into the action?

    • @JabariHunt
      @JabariHunt 5 років тому +1

      Depends on the muzzle device. A suppressor is a muzzle device, and it certainly adds back pressure!

    • @tajituck888
      @tajituck888 5 років тому

      Jabari Hunt well a suppressor is obvious do to somewhat of a increased dwell time.

    • @theneighborguy
      @theneighborguy 5 років тому

      A muzzle brake will exhaust a larger amount of gas at the muzzle at the end the bullets dwell (from gas port to muzzle), reducing back pressure. With a heavier buffer system, it might vent off too much gas to allow the bolt to completely cycle. It reduces muzzle rise and felt recoil but in conjunction with adjustable gas blocks and/or a heavier buffer, it can induce a Failure to feed (FTF) if not tuned correctly leading to loss of reliability via under gassing. This can also happen from a misaligned gas block.
