    I really want to try out cephalotus and pinguicula, but I’m scared I will kill them. My nepenthes grow in my sunroom that gets a few hours of filtered light, would they grow in there? I tried growing sundew in there but it just wasn’t enough light and they really took off when I put them outside in direct sun

      Sure they will grow.
      Cepha and Ping need more light than Nepenthes so the more direct sun you have, the better.

      Maybe a little bit too "salad looking" but it's winter so... ;)
      I think I'll have more traps in summer.

    great video, thought you were just a nepenthes one trick.
    besides that, do you let your pinguicula sit in water? or do they prefer to not remain in bog conditions similar to nepenthes.

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 роки тому +1

      You are right, I prefer Neps but I still have more.
      Yes they sit into water until it's evaporate totally, but the substrate is 60/40 perlite/peat so a lot of drainage and the roots never touch the water level.

      Is that the U. Longifolia too or you have other species?

    You make me want the ones with flowers!!!! So beautiful! I have utricularia that’s flowering like crazies and different kinds of droceras. It’s getting cooler here and they still seem happy. I’m planning to repot the utricularia into a large goblet. It’s now grown out of the pot it came in.

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 роки тому

      Yes the utri is great. it will spread to the size of the more, so it's growing infinitely!

    I have a ping “guatamala” on my windowsill, some live sphagnum, and a small bog planter with two sarracenia out on my tiny balcony. I will be getting some small terrestrial utricularia this year to try for the first time and will be planting winterhardy sundew seeds :) your longiflora looks amazing, now I want one of those!
    The cephalotus is great, I haven’t dared because people say it is for mor experienced growers.

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 роки тому

      For the sarracenia, you will have to give it 2 cold months if you want the plant to survive. Some people put them into a fridge! (But my wife would kill me so I don't lol)

    • @BlaisZeroni

      @@WindowsillNepenthes Don’t worry, the sarracenia spend their time on my tiny balcony. It gets plenty cold here in zone 8a during the winter and spring :)

    Hey Remi! I have a question about substrates. Do you think having plant food/fertilizer in my Nepenthes substrate will make it not produce pitchers? Thank you (cool intro btw!)

    • @abir95571
      @abir95571 3 роки тому +2

      Pitchers are basically modified leaves , plants that used to live in an extremely well drained soil thousands of years ago suffered from malnutrition and that's how through evolution pitchers were formed out of the leaves to replenish that nutrient deficit and not only that their metabolism slowed down considerably (So that they don't need much nutrient to survive). So yes if you put fertilizers , pitchers wont produce and if you over fertilize it will die . A tiny pitcher of my nep vent. once caught a really big bug (I don't know how it got it) , I didn't remove it as I thought "more food for the plant" but I was wrong , the entire pitcher died. So one can only imagine if fertilizer levels go high in the whole plant.

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 роки тому +2

      Spray fert I know, but roots fert... I never tried.
      Someone told me that is was working on a plant but I can't recommend for now ;)

  • @Dan-ty7cb

    Hello, do you fertilize your Utricularia? How long have you had it? Any tips? Thanks!

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 роки тому +2

      Almost no Fert for me bit I know there is springtails in the pot.
      The only tips is well drained substrate (50/50 LFS/perlite) and keep it moist. Not too much water looks better. :)

    Hi quick question I’m going to get my plants tomorrow. I will grow them in an empty 29gal aquarium. I have a large humidity tray. Humidity is 68%-96%, temp is 70-82f . Do I still have to mist? I have a fan and light that come on automatically. I want it to be low maintenance. I order an automatic drip irrigation system.I will be watching them but I want to free my hands. I want to skip the misting. I can control the humidity and temperature more by closing or opening the lid. Do you think it is feasible? I’m subscribed by the way.

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  Рік тому +1

      No need to mist with your humidity 😉 but run the fan every 20 minutes, not for long but just to move the air

    Have you used heat mats to help nepenthes that don't like cold so xmuch to survive longer?

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  8 місяців тому

      No I didn't. I only pick plants that should handle my temperature ;)

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 роки тому

      It will depend of the humidity...
      In my house in France it was working but not now that I'm in Canada.
