You will love it, its light enough i dont get tired of carrying it which i was worried about before i got it, fits in the nokta backpack with the detector if you have a simplex or legend, but make sure to put it sharp side up so geavity dosnt cause it to dig a hole in your bag
But the shovel itself digs good plugs, my soil dosnt quite hold up as well as paystreaks but it still does a fabulous job with the soil i have
I used it all of 2023 and havnt put a dent into it, ive pried on rocks and roots with it a little bit, but not too much, i bent my amazon hand digger once prying on rocks, so ive been carrful since

Have used many many shovels, several self modified, several models from Predator Tools. The Phoenix model ended my more than ten year quest for the perfect detecting digger/shovel. Got two now, highly recommend.

I have the Ranger which has same head as Piranha but has a D handle. That thing goes deep. The only place a big shovel like that can be applicable to metal detecting is in farm fields or dump sites. It looks like the hand tool you're using is "White's"? I was looking at get a Predator 85 model but am wondering what led you to get White's?
It helps a lot to have VERY moist soil like you have there. Unfortunately here in Texas dirt is very dry and hard and almost impossible to cut a clean plug. Still very great shovels btw.
I was in East Texas for almost 2 months Jan/Feb this year. The Predator Phoenix performed very well in the loamy soil and the Blackland Prairie clay. Your soil should hopefully soften up soon after the rains. You guys in TX had a horrific summer.

I love my Raven !!! I’ve been using it for 4 years ! It’s a great shovel. I just purchased the Hornet . I will give it a try.

Paystreak Superfreak .. the Hornet is noticeable heavier then the Raven . I mostly dig in farm fields ,so it gets heavy after carrying it all day. But it’s blade shape is great for cleaning out your plug. And it’s built like a tank !!! The blade length & width ,is great for deep targets ! All in all it’s a good shovel.
Attention to detail in your craft will expose your flaws and develop your strengths. Thx Jeremy for this my man, me and Dad are ordering one soon, and Oh ya baby we are watching ;)
Thanks ordered the Phoenix based on your review here - I like the shape of it - love the clean plug . $143 though with pads - pricey, hopefully lasts me a while . As you said, most shovels die in less than a year - hoping this one doesn't . Cheers
You can pry as hard as you want. I have abused this shovel more than any shovel I have had. This thing is nearly indestructible. I put my reputation on the Phoenix.
I have the Ultra Eagle ( the teaspoon) and the Hurricane. I like my Predator Tools !
How do you like the hurricane shovel? Is it a good relic shovel?
I would love a Phoenix Predator shovel but living in Australia I can't afford the postage. A real shame Predators don't sell them in Australia.

i bought a Hornet a while back and boy was it worth it , even tough i had to pay a leg and a arm for the shipping and vat fees to norway ( about doubble the original price ) , but the quality is far better then anything else i`v ever tryed . i manly dig wide open fields so one might think using such an expensive shovel on ploved or pasture is overkill , and it might be but i like my equipment to be good . confidence in your gear is a big part of the game , in my opinion :)
Confidence in the gear we use is a huge part of success. Hornet is a very stout shovel.
When I lose it break my root slayer I will order one. I like how it digs plugs.
When you break your root slayer just get a replacement.
They have a lifetime warranty lol.
What is your thoughts on the root slayer nomad?
I had a root slayer. I dont remember which one but I know I had to have broken the head off. The serrated blade is awesome on the root slayers. The hilt was a little awkward on the model I had. I think it bunched my fingers together when I gripped it tight. Thanks for watching and commenting Spike.
Do you ever have the problem of hitting targets when you dig out a cone vs. a loose clod of dirt, though? I’m afraid that the Phoenix how it angles in like will hit a target. I do mainly relic hunting in old forests and I’m looking for the shovel that is best for that purpose.
Very seldom will I scratch a coin or relic with the Phoenix. I have other Predator models and the Phoenix just gets it done. I made several attempts at creating a comparison video today with my Predator shovels but had so many distractions. I will attempt again tomorrow and show in detail how there is no shovel that compares to the Phoenix design.
@@PaystreakSuperfreak you also don't dig deep tagets as you said in another video so your chances of clipping a target will be less as you are more likely to run your blade under the target not into it.
What do you think of the Predator hornet shovel?
The predator Hornet is my next shovel. The Hornet has that same parabolic design just a little bit bigger than the Phoenix. The Hornet would be very effective in the crumbly farm field dirt. I have noticed the Spartan and Ranger struggle scooping out crumbly farm field dirt out of the holes. 4" and 5" wide spade is like using tour finger to scoop you plug out of the hole. The Hornet can take a lot of dirt and scoop it out of the hole with one toss. The faster you can get down to the target means the more targets recovered per day right.
If you think these shovels are expensive in the us try getting one from outside of there with the exchange rate and postage .But it is worth it's weight in gold.🙂🙂🙂🙂

After seeing this video I had to have a Phoenix.
How is the Phoenix in the woods?
All around the Phoenix performs extremely extremely extremely well in all sites, I think it is the perfect size and shape for field, stream, tall grass, dry crumbly soil because it can scoop out material much faster than a narrower 4" spade that many other detectorists use. I will always use the Phoenix. Very expensive but very effective.

I though cone shaped plug are prone to hit more targets???
If I cannot pinpoint a target within 1 inch in 3 seconds....it stays in the ground. I may be able to come back to that target with different settings and pinpoint it better. With the Phoenix I always dig a little deeper so I do not stab targets.
Doesn't matter how good you are or what you swing targets wont always be perfectly centered in your plug when you pinpoint.
Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.
So I finally got my phoenix shovel. Nice shovel but doesn't work for me. I'm 6'4 and it is way to short for me.
A local welding shop may be able to weld a longer shaft on. I am sorry the Phoenix is too short for you. The spade of the Pheonix has no rival man. If you cannot make it work for you, there is always someone in your area that will buy it.
I will buy it if you want to sell it.

Phoenix are well worth the money. I have spent $70 on many shovels and they just bend and break. The Phoenix I have had for 4 years every day hunting, never had a prob with the Phoenix.

Sad that people think shovels tear up the ground which is the exact opposite of a hand digger or probe. We as detectorists know shovels make awesome plugs but it is hard to convince the clueless people of this fact. Thanks for watching and commenting Vajcai.
Before I get into my comment you really should specify you don't dig deep targets as you said in another video.
Here is the reason why that matters...
When you have a shovel that sweeps the bottom of your plug like a scoop you have a higher chance of clipping your target with the blade.
When you pinpoint your obejective is to get your target in the center of the plug.
By design that shovel is making it's way where when you apply downward pressure into the ground?
The center of your plug. Hence the scooping aspect of the design.
A lot of targets such as GW buttons, Civ buckles, powder flasks, so on and so forth are quite a bit larger than a coin(even a cartwheel penny.)
All this design does is give you a better chance if nailing it.
Digging shallow targets as you do you are more likely to get your blade under your target.
Once you dig deep targets that all changes.
Also if your target is in the plug chances are you are going to destroy that pristine plug retrieving it so...
But hey, if it works for you have at it.
What your plug looks like coming out of the ground doesn't matter as much as what it looks like once you walk away from it.
If you want to keep it tidy on the permission & curb strips put a bandana down and put all of the dirt from the plug on it.
When finished simply lift the bandana and dump your dirt back in the plug.
Been doing it for years.
Oh, and if you used a hinge technique when you cut your plugs you wouldn't have have to make as many cuts.
Drives me nuts seeing folks cut plugs like you do.
Ive seen people do that crap on smaller ones in parks with their hand diggers then they get destroyed when commercial mowers go over them.
Only time that is cool is in the woods or on a plow field.
he dosnt cut a hinge plug because he wants to move the plug away from the hole to get clear sweeps with his detector
I oersonally copied his plug style because i dont tyink the hinge helps the grass at all, the real important part is sealing around the edges before you leave so it cant dry out
And for smaller deep targets you can just cut a larger plug and you wont scratch it, but yeah i giess that wouldnt work with larger targets
