Well now the GOP can see what creating a nation of uneducated Sheeple brings to the forefront... Trump. But lack of education is everywhere. Both sides. But one side embraces it.
Matt Welch is a libertarian, member of the LP. Works at Reason magazine, which if you've ever read it is hardly a republican publication. But I can forgive you for your under-education.
I never get tired of listening to him either. I love watching the gears work in his head. The look in his eyes when he processes or recalls something. He is an amazingly brilliant man with an uncanny sense of humor as well.
***** I didn't notice him doing that. In fact, even though the cuckservative agreed with him on Trump, we got a howl from Bill whenever he objected to reducing the right to a pile of sharted condoms.
You know I thought you might be exaggerating but then I saw it and you're right, I cant remember ever seeing a panel on his show with such good synergy despite coming from different angles. Even the more comedic guest, Eddie, Was able to chime in with good comments here and there without dumbing the conversation down or pulling it in a different direction like the comedic guests tend to do. Grade A panel for sure.
That's exactly what I thought after the episode. Maher had to bring some rational thought back to the show after last weeks 5.27.16 episode with that libertarian Trump supporter, he was a fucking idiot!
As an MD I recommend drinking a minimum of 1.5 Liters of water per day (that includes the beverages we consume during meals). You should also increase that amount by an additional 1-1.5 Liters in case of hot climate and or physical exercise.
one of the things I noticed that Bill was kind of off his usually smoother delivery. He misread, mispronounced, clumsy with words.. I was afraid he is either hung over/high or he has had some sort of aneurysm.
+Sam Sochet Yeah, that was just awful and he never got it right... I really wondered if something was wrong with him. He was really weird and awkward with Degrasse Tyson and I know they're friends. He messed up during his monologue as well. I hope he is alright.
I agree, but on one condition: When Neil is scripted he is fantastic. But unfortunately, the price of him becoming such a good astrophysicist is that he does not seem to have the best of social skills. If you watch this whole episode, Neil very nearly ruined the whole show. Partially it was bills fault for being a little too jokingly dismissive and using the word nerd too much. But Neil was just bad at chilling the fuck out and laughing a bit. Also, I hope he felt like an ass, because while Bill did rib him a little bit, he actually was nicer and more accommodating and even protective on the whole to him than I have I think EVER seen him be to anyone on his show. He clearly knew that given the very politicized atmosphere in america right now that Neil would have nothing to talk about, so he prepared ahead of time to set up a bunch of opportunities to include him. Bill doesnt do that for anybody, but he went out of his way to do it for Neil. At the same time, I can see how someone who probably grew up a nerd and saw the cool kids like Bill making jokes as being derisive of him, kind of reverting a bit when he feels attacked. What also made me sad is how much of a know it all apparently he is. I had never noticed before, but once he got offended for a bit he kept trying to argue and pick a fight with Bill seemingly just to get back at him. That's some insecure petty nerd shit right there (trust me I've been one). Meanwhile, the entire time Bill was just trying to have a good time and take care of everybody (except that stupid heckler). I know Bill apologized afterwards for any part he played and probably smoothed things over, but I really hope Neil did too. Because Bill SHOULD have been more careful about Neil's feelings, but at the same time, it's a comedy show. Neil should know where he is and chill out and just enjoy the jokes. If you didn't get much of what I'm saying and you haven't seen the full show, its just because you haven't seen the full show. By the time Overtime came around Bill had already figured out how to fix the situation and show, and Neil I think kind of realized what he was doing and definitely got better. But there were some hints of it. But in the full show it got so awkward at one point that Eddie kind of alluded to Bill having really bad luck.
+Matt Bacon It was Bill's fault, not only is he dismissive he is also not funny and a chronic interrupter. Every time I watch Bill Maher I regret it, his jokes leave me flatly deflated. What Bill passes off as humor, is a mix of 80% stupid and offensive, 20% clever, 0% funny. By the time the clip was over I was frowning intensely, I just don't like Bill. As many times as I tried to laugh, his style makes me irritated. I don't think he is very kind, or bright.
RIGHT. See, I can do it too. But it doesn't do much in the way of support an argument, does it? Explain why it is too general? I think all unskilled/uneducated laborers that are competing with the kind of people who dont even speak english could unite over that kind of common interest.
We have that in Norway and yes, it works. The main organization works on national questions. While sub groups with their own structure and names and such work for different occupations. Its basically works like a giant military alliance. Of course people on the far right dont like it because they would have wanted the "UK alone to face off with Hitler". Because that is how you really win a war... /sarcasm
Bill's had Matt Welch, Charles Cooke, Michael Moynihan, and Nick Gillespie on in recent weeks. This is why Real Time rocks, so much reasonable dissent fuels good discussions.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson is one of my heros. I am an amateur astronomer and during the show when he talked about Saturn I have to agree. I didn't have a telescope but was at a friend's place and saw it for the first time. I bought my first telescope about 2 years ago. I am now in my 3rd. went from a 4 inch scope, to a 6" scope and now have a 10" scope. My friend has a 24.5" telescope that is about 12 feet tall. The universe is an incredibly beautiful place.
I like that Bill lets people with opposing view come on the show and have their say but I feel like the panel in this episode was able to go deep into some really important issues largely because they weren't having to constantly bicker with some right wing propagandist, like Wayne Allyn Root constantly trying to derail and high-jack the conversation.
Exactly. I feel Neil's logical oand seemingly apolitical manner of speaking help guide the panelists away from their usual ideological speechifying into something resembling more of a dialogue, or discussion of interrelated topics around a subject from various viewpoints. All of them to be recognizing the same monster: which is power and how to deal with it.
A successful capitalist that realizes it took astoundingly good fortune to get what he has. Maybe secretary of treasury would be better, money clearly hasn't corrupted him, so he'd fit well in that seat.
After making an initial statement, John Avlon always says 'right?' Such a pet peeve of mine when people do that. Super bright guy, no need to get confirmation from the panel. Another great Maher episode. His show is the reason I subscribe to HBO :-)
It's a way to keep the discussion alive by holding the door open for someone else to chime in with agreement, elaboration, or disagreement. I don't think it's looking for confirmation.
I've only come to Overtime in the recent past. Yet, I have come to understand sometimes / many times / Most? times? there is more quality content in the aftershow than the structured production. That is not to say I do not appreciate the entirety of the effort - for I most certainly do! Thank you Bill Maher and your Production team. Quality material offered to the masses. Cheers!
Have to be honest... I'm not a regular viewer, and don't have HBO. This was an amazing panel! Some very intelligent people, with some incredibly deep insight into our current political situation. Just subscribed on UA-cam, and hope to maybe get HBO Go. Well done!
Neil DeGrasse Tyson just freakin rules! And the guy sitting beside him has some darn good insight. If people are doing well, they don't have much time for all the hate. And that goes against everything the one party has worked out for us so far. People who make going on 2 billion dollers a year telling people making minimum wage that they cost too much. BTW, the top two hedge fund managers make the equivalent of 3 hundred thousand minimum wage workers. If there is enough money for 2 single people to make as much money as 300,000 people, stop crying about 7.50 an hour being unaffordable. Instead of a few people makeing most of the money, it's sounder financial policy for as many people to be in the middle class as possible,
T`hing is he is a billionaire venture capitalist. He was the one who challenged the notion that the rich are the 'job creators' instead he said consumers are the job creators. The rich spend less of their income on goods than a person making minimum wage.
1) Your mentality does not address the issue of small businesses. If you tell smaller restaurant owners they have to double the pay of their workers in a sudden shocking pace, they definitely aren't going to be able to handle it as well as a corporation. 2) Another important issue that people of your opinion neglect to address is the issue of how skilled pay will affect the pace and standards of hiring. You all just assume companies and business owners are going to willingly give up the extra pay without swapping or compromising on something else. Corporations aren't dumb. Raising min. wage at THAT PACE will only encourage corporations and business owners to hire extremely experienced people, which means shutting teenagers and college students, and others with little work experience from min. wage jobs. Little ironic, don't cha think? The very same people wanting the raise will now hardly get hired. They'll now be hiring the guy who's been stocking shelves for 8 yrs. or the lady who's been handing out orders for 7 yrs. They won't just pay anybody $15/hr. Additionally the jobs will be nearly sweatshop work. One worker will be expected to do the work of 4 or 5 positions. Corporations aren't dumb. 3) Hedge fund managers work in the securities industry and have nothing to do with any industry or corporations paying minimum wage. 4) I have to admit this was and still is one of the issues I am not in lock-step and totally agreeing with Bernie Sanders on. I think everybody agrees that the min. wage needs to be raised, but to raise it at a pace where it's doubled in 3 yrs. is dangerous for small businesses across America and would probably send this country right back into recession. We need a REASONABLY PACED rise in min. wage. Maybe $15/hr. in 6 yrs. OR $12/hr. in 3 yrs., but not doubling it in 3 yrs. That's disastrous.
Dathotness4ya Why? If minimum wage since 30s had kept with rising productivity, it would now be about 22 dollars an hour. Or are you arguing that even its original size was too big? www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/18/elizabeth-warren-minimum-wage_n_2900984.html
So you are saying that the less money people have, the more they will spend? My wife was second in command of a small business, She was paid very very well, as were teh employees. The business thrived. If a business is so small that the only way they can stay in business is by paying minimum wage, then the invisible hand of the free market will take over, and weed out the inefficient small business. And tell me this threat that teh job creators pose every time about how people will lose their jobs because of getting a raise? Well, dear sir, people are not getting raises, and they are STILL losing their jobs. Your ideas simply do not work. Trickle down economics, give the job creators most of the money, and they shall provide for the common man. GIve it a break. The economic equation has two sides, producers and consumers. Your producer only model is old, worn out, doesn't work. Could you give the cited numbers on how increases in the minimum wage have been directly tied to recessions/depressions?
Remember, we wouldn't need a labor union if we had a Maximum Wage in place! If a company makes millions, the money would be shared on down to the new employee
He shakes his head but Hanauer should seriously consider running for public office. He has a great grasp on what's happening, he's putting it into the best terms I've seen in a long time (and might I add the entire panel last night was fucking fantastic at clearly articulating their opinions), and he's fairly successful at mostly everything he does. He knows what he's talking about, he's credible as fuck and you knew that with the introduction Bill gave him for the interview, and he's diplomatic with his speech (minus trickle down clown lol) and can see the perspective of both leftists and the right very clearly. Run for President big guy.
You know it's a good panel when Bill doesn't interfere and let's each do their thing.
lets* sorry
Thanks!
so much better than last week's train wreck
No need for an apostrophe on lets, but I agree.
Hell yeah Neil needs to be on the show every week! also the economist was great, I liked him. Definitely the best panel in a LONG time.
agreed!
He's not an economist, none of what he said made any sense and has been proven to be wrong numerous times, both in practice and in theory.
This was a fantastic show. And as usual, Neil remains one of Bill's best guests.
So entertaining, and you always learn something new when he's around!
Neil DeGrasse Tyson is one of my favorite people!!!
Neil DeGrasse Tyson calls out the under educated and the Republican was the first to take offense. Hilarious.
Trump quote of the day: "We love the under educated."
+vick3d debunked? ok maybe in the bubble you live in lol
+vick3d FYI, Donald Trump retweets of false crime statistics from a white supremacist group is not even close to debunking anything
This segment is one of the best segments on this show for a while
This whole show was the best of the season. Civil and educating.
thats what you get when there isnt a trump supporter
It would kill us all 10 different ways.
Have a great week!
hi caillou
I was gonna reply with a Trump joke, but I digress.
bill saw this comming a mile away and capitalized on it instinctively
It would kill us all 10 different ways. GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE!! lol
We need some ppl to live on the moon just in case.
Excellent Panel!Loved it.
Amen. So much truth there if more would just listen.
No Feminist,no misogynist, all in all no uninformed propaganda basher....
Amen !
It was fukn great wasn't it.
yup. well said. best panel on for ages. just intelligent people talking and no bullshit to derail them.
Mr Neil DeGrasse Tyson has such a great mind. I can listen to him all day. Very good panel.
I never get tired of listening to him either. I love watching the gears work in his head. The look in his eyes when he processes or recalls something. He is an amazingly brilliant man with an uncanny sense of humor as well.
true jackie, what a very smart guy
One of the great minds in our world today.
Everyone kept interrupting Eddie, didn't seem to get much in but when he did he was good. Need to have him back.
One of the best overtime's I've seen: thoughtful questions and illuminating responses AND funny! Can't ask for more than that!
You must be the one with a gram of grey matter
*****
I didn't notice him doing that. In fact, even though the cuckservative agreed with him on Trump, we got a howl from Bill whenever he objected to reducing the right to a pile of sharted condoms.
One of the best overtimes yet.
The most stimulating panel I've seen in a while! Fantastic!
Thank you, Dr. Neil for being your critical thinking, reasonable, brilliant self.
I'm a simple man.
I see Neil DeGrasse Tyson, I press like.
Yes, simple men happen to be his strongest audience
fucking hilarious
ouch, that was mean.
Thank you !
Dr Neil DeGrassi Tyson is a treasure!
What a great panel. Very vigorous but friendly debate.
They all seem very fact and experience oriented rather than just theorizing. Makes for good discussion.
Niel: "it will kill us ten different ways" Bill: " have a great day everyone" nice ending.
Great panel discussion. Usually I find these discussions generally speaking are full of jokes, but I found this one to be very meaningful.
yeah, even Bill didn't interject at all .. he let the discussion flow because it was that good ...
BEST EPISODE OF THIS YEAR
That was probably the greatest ending to Overtime yet! Thanks Neil!
Way better panel than last week.

Die Elf vom Niederrhein. Auch wenn ich ein Knappe bin, die Pfohlen find ich auch gut.

Kudos for having 2 super rational panelists this week (Matt and Neil) and no wacko regressives (Melissa)
Haha yes. F off regressives
Only if you don't count his audience.
Larely, even Maher has been getting down on his audience!
Yep, that's why maybe every three months or so I'll check out Alex Jones, or TV Preachers
nick was awesome too
Excellent as usual. Thank you Bill Maher.
I love hearing Neil Degrasse Tysen speak. He's so fluid and smart.
This was a fantastic episode!!! I loved the panel!! Good chemistry between the panel and Bill. And Neil DeGrasse Tyson is one of my personal heroes!!!
Amazing panel and discussion
Best panel so far.
Agreed
You know I thought you might be exaggerating but then I saw it and you're right, I cant remember ever seeing a panel on his show with such good synergy despite coming from different angles. Even the more comedic guest, Eddie, Was able to chime in with good comments here and there without dumbing the conversation down or pulling it in a different direction like the comedic guests tend to do.
Grade A panel for sure.
exactly!
I know not a single woman, fantastic
That's exactly what I thought after the episode. Maher had to bring some rational thought back to the show after last weeks 5.27.16 episode with that libertarian Trump supporter, he was a fucking idiot!
Best episode this season!
Nick Hanauer did an awesome awesome job. Of course Neil DeGrasse Tyson killed it as usual.
Best panel in awhile! ...and best ending ever!
i love that bill asks neil all these troll astronomy questions every time he's on the show
This was an awesome episode of Real Time and a solid Overtime.
i just wish this episode did not end
One of the best overtimes I've seen!
What a fabulous Roundtable panel today. Thoroughly enjoyable great talk!
I can't get enough of this panel. Bravo!!!
this was actually the best Overtime in a while. and any coincidence NDT was there?
Frfr! It's ALWAYS good when he is on!
amazing panel,real conversation
Best overtime segment ever. well done, gents.
Eddie Huang and Neil Tyson on a panel? I fuck with it
Great panel and discussion but really short! Bring them back!!
I love the debate. informed debate... wish our politics were more like this.
"it would kill us all 10 different ways" ...."BAHHAHAHAHA" and everyone starts laughing lol. Humanity is funny.
They were laughing at Maher choosing to end the show on that horrifying note with, "Have a great weekend!"
A large improvement over last week's panel. Also I fucking loved Neil DeGrasse Tyson
His Kardashian index is over the roof m8.
these are some smart fuckers
+Jaun Keem Bro their IQ combined is greater than all of those who support Trump and Hillary combined.
+High Grumpy Cat hahaha seriously it's insane. I bet it would be super intimidating to be at that table
Great show, Eddie couldn't hardly get a word in,but the new rules, Amazing!
Bill loves to troll Tyson lol
And boy is he good at it ;o)
XD
it would kill us all 10 different ways
Please bring this panel back. This was one of the best overtime's I've seen
As an MD I recommend drinking a minimum of 1.5 Liters of water per day (that includes the beverages we consume during meals). You should also increase that amount by an additional 1-1.5 Liters in case of hot climate and or physical exercise.
What an amazing panel!!! Good discussion on the current state of two party system!
One of the rare occasions when the Overtime discussion was better than the regular show.
one of the things I noticed that Bill was kind of off his usually smoother delivery. He misread, mispronounced, clumsy with words.. I was afraid he is either hung over/high or he has had some sort of aneurysm.
He seemed way off, even introducing Eddie Huang's book. Kind of embarrassing.
+Sam Sochet Yeah, that was just awful and he never got it right... I really wondered if something was wrong with him. He was really weird and awkward with Degrasse Tyson and I know they're friends. He messed up during his monologue as well. I hope he is alright.
Awesome show this week with great discussions!
Nick Hanauer is absolutely brilliant!!
That was indeed the best episode of Real Time
Good panel.
Great overtime. The discussions were better than the actual show. Thanks Bill.
I could listen to Mr. Tyson all day long, what an interesting man.

wow us evolved primates are strange creatures lol. I saw it completely differently.
He has the Morgan Freeman voice over gig.

The voice of reason
Excellent discussion. Enjoyed an insight- and respectful exchange of opinion without yelling.
This panel is amazing.
Excellent constructive conversation.
a national union would do way more for the american worker than a wall.
A "national" union? Way too general. You have to have specific unions for it to work properly.
RIGHT.
See, I can do it too. But it doesn't do much in the way of support an argument, does it?
Explain why it is too general? I think all unskilled/uneducated laborers that are competing with the kind of people who dont even speak english could unite over that kind of common interest.

Very good! Smart people, intelligent conversation. I think that was the best "overtime" that I've seen. We need to see more stuff like this!
Tyson is smart and loves to talk, its funny sometimes.

i got my money on best quote for "prosperity won't eliminate racism, but it sure as hell is a good distraction from it".
Great panel, all of these guys were awesome. Best overtime in a while.
I like that Bill lets people with opposing view come on the show and have their say but I feel like the panel in this episode was able to go deep into some really important issues largely because they weren't having to constantly bicker with some right wing propagandist, like Wayne Allyn Root constantly trying to derail and high-jack the conversation.
i thought the same thing. was a great mix
Exactly. All of them to be recognizing the same monster: which is power and how to deal with it.
This video is a keeper
Watching this show is like taking a mental shower. I would go a bit bonkers without it.
You get brain washed? Freudian slip
And it feels so nice.
All aboard to lalaland
love you bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Nick Hanauer for President in 2020!
A successful capitalist that realizes it took astoundingly good fortune to get what he has. Maybe secretary of treasury would be better, money clearly hasn't corrupted him, so he'd fit well in that seat.
good show, funny, lots of good points
After making an initial statement, John Avlon always says 'right?' Such a pet peeve of mine when people do that. Super bright guy, no need to get confirmation from the panel. Another great Maher episode. His show is the reason I subscribe to HBO :-)
It's a way to keep the discussion alive by holding the door open for someone else to chime in with agreement, elaboration, or disagreement. I don't think it's looking for confirmation.
Excellent show....Love it!
why cant our presidential field be analogous to this panel?
I've only come to Overtime in the recent past. Yet, I have come to understand sometimes / many times / Most? times? there is more quality content in the aftershow than the structured production. That is not to say I do not appreciate the entirety of the effort - for I most certainly do! Thank you Bill Maher and your Production team. Quality material offered to the masses. Cheers!
Nick Hanauer nailed it.
Lol!!! Lovely last line! Lol!!
Thanks for a great show!
What an excellent panel. Kudos the lot of you and thanks very much
Far better show this week..!!Great panel...!!
Nick, you ROCK!
I wish it was 12:22 minutes of Overtime with just Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
this was one of the best segments ever.
Yup. Good fun. Nice episode.
That ending was awesome XD
Fast food workers have onions.
Yep a lot of them. They should use sacks of onions to get equal pay, by beating the CEO of McDonalds to a bloody pulp with them.
Yeah with no pay raise, and they make you cry.
Exactly, that was the tragic hidden message in my comment.
This kind of conversation should happen DURING the show.
Then overtime wouldn't get viewers. Overtime is when the real fun begins.
They can put the fun joking around stuff on them. I'm sure folks would still tune in.
This panel is awsm.
awsm? please do tell... i'm an old fart and do not speak twitter.....
shorthand for awesome lol
I think the last part is "white, straight males" but I have no clue what the A stands for. Awesome?
Have to be honest... I'm not a regular viewer, and don't have HBO. This was an amazing panel! Some very intelligent people, with some incredibly deep insight into our current political situation. Just subscribed on UA-cam, and hope to maybe get HBO Go. Well done!

I need your money so I can create jobs.
That was my favorite ending to an Overtime, ever... All Hail, Neil "Smoke" DeGrasse Tyson!
Love Neil DeGrasse's best Popovich answer "Nothing"
+John Davila...Yes, but his follow up to it was mind-blowing. He's a very gifted cross-over scientist and the best since Carl Sagan...
All the guests were terrific
Remember, we wouldn't need a labor union if we had a Maximum Wage in place!
If a company makes millions, the money would be shared on down to the new employee
Indeed, we need more syndicalism!
Good luck with that! People would just vote with their feet out of the country. Don't forget were in a globalized world now.
That's a horrible idea
Good conversation!!
Really enjoyable debate... and very informative.
