Well Done...fun to watch. Had two L series back in the 80's/early 90's...great Cars, and did some awesome trips with them ...just lacked a bit of grunt right when needed at times....had a couple of Liberty's after that and a Forester...all excellent, just picked up a new XV but It won't be working as hard as previous Subi's...getting bait old now, plus I also have an old Landrover Disco for the hard stuff. That is one ornery sob subaru wagon. Owned one, it was stock but not to many places it wouldn't go. I buried it the sand once, but was still able to back out without a tow. Imo Subaru's Rocked until about 2004, then they got sissyfied.
Subaru has bought exceptionnals cars ! I was a proper of two of those : a Subaru 1800 Wagon, and a micro-van E-12 . It was the fun; realy ! Never any revision in a garage, multiple services a.s.o. I can only recommand these models but yet ... what's the quality of Subarus models, whoses are... sometimes Toyota (or Daihatsu ones) some others (Suzuki - for example the "Justy" in the begining of this century). Subaru was always something different as the others japaneses marks ! and it fels today !
Nicolas Smith I'm actually going to rebuild it and make some serious mods to it... It's just been lying in the garage gathering dust after a minor accident. This video made me realise that this car is too good to be lying there unused.
JP Onefourseven True, but a newer car using a automatic could still do very well I would think. Coupled to a more powerful engine and it might be better.
Cole G True, the transfer clutch in some transmissions can make up for the lack of 4WD and auto can make up for the lack of low range. I think the main advantage of a newer vehicle off road is the traction control. Still I prefer an old, simple 4WD system.
I just bought a 2001 Legacy L wagon, do you think it is possible for me to get at your level? I want to have it seated at 10 in ground clearance and not the 6.3 its at now. alot of tire places tell me that i cant fit off road tires on it though? not even smaller ones like the Yakima geolanders ats. any advice on what kind of lift I should put on it and what springs I should buy?

don't take it seriously, i also own a gl-10 wagon and ive being using it almost every Sunday in offrad. i also added an rhb5 to its original TBI system at 10 psi and it work just fine especially crossing mud puddels. my intentions weren't to humiliate off your accident but to share feelings because ive being there too. for love of the offrad!

no body on the planet earth knows the weak points of this car better than me,,,,,,,,,,,,, main issues....reverse gear..., cv joints....but its really off road capable car,,,,but after a tough day you will discover how tired you became,,,, with all of this its my only off road vehicle ...!!, any way nice vid.

done the same with my 84, uncle had it sit for 18 years and we threw some premium in it and jumped it. turned right over.
Had to hold my breath when you backed down that hill & the wheel went up the bank...any other 4x4 would've rolled right there!

My buddy has the same car up here in Alaska. He put the body on a Bronco 2 frame with 10inch lift. Its no longer a subaru but still fun to drive

@recruted These Subaru's ARE 4wd. And have a High/Low 4WD only without locked rear diff. Alot of them get welded.

It's a 14 inch sunraysias. I have 185r14 tyres on mine with a 2 inch lift. You can fit 27 inch tyres with a 4 inch lift

you need a low range! That engine is turning at very low RPM and is easy to stall on steep hills and super bumpy terrain
The video is 11 years old! I have two other 4wd's with low range. One has duel diff lockers :)

try some lsds frount and rear subru is awd not 4wd and typicly 4wd is 3 wd due to a open diff out back
