When May started talking about the screwdriver, I remember that the reassembler was the best series ever created, and it it a pity its not still around.
The Reassembler was just at the right time for it to work on a conventional TV channel. I'd happily watch him reassemble something here on UA-cam though.
@@Metal-Possum I hardly comment on youtube but reviving The Reassembler on this platform is a perfect idea and I would watch every single episode at least 10 times each.
@@Metal-Possum i'd watch a million reassemble videos on YT
I’ve had a few of the reassembler episodes appear on my YT feed in the last month it’s almost like ASMR
Love the Reassembler, but Man Lab was epic too
"Alcohol is God's apology for making us self aware."
That's just one dope line.
His genius is staggering ... oh no , wait ...
going around anywhere with a double sided Japanese screwdriver is the most James May thing I have ever heard in my life
my ex-father in law always carried a pair of pliers on him in a holster
😂 100%
@@dbunik44 I switched from carrying a pocketknife to a Leatherman on my belt. It is amazingly useful.
We all know that James May is the one person that we cannot live without 😊
Becuz he's a mild mannered man that says becuz.❤
Indeed
... 'cannot live without '
😁😁
I used nail clippers to save the life of a newborn kitten that was being strangled by its own umbilical cord.
There's nothing more wonderfully James May than comparing an Ipad to the Library of Alexandria.
Strictly speaking, he was comparing the Internet to the Library of Alexandria, but the iPad is his window into that.
@@StockportJambo it is a window to your desire, for some it's the Library, for others it is a window into p*rn hub.
@@mofayer And for many, it's all three.
Or carrying nail clippers around for loose strands of cotton, cable ties and filing cars 😂
As soon as he mentioned the Ipad, I knew it was coming 🤣🤣
Thank you for pointing out how OCD is different. There's nothing wrong with wanting to do things properly.
I would like to point out that OCD is spectrum-based, so James having it to an extent isn't a total impossibility. I myself show signs of it, and could therefore be on the cusp.
As a side note - being rude here is my last intention, and I accept that my view on the matter could be inaccurate.
That purple rugby jumper would be about 20 years old. It’s made several appearances on various programs.
A James May classic!
Truly an icon
Looks like this jumper IS actually something James May can't live without
It's had a longer television career than some reality stars.
Does anyone know the brand? The fact it has held up so long and not faded too poorly is a real testament lol.
@@Lasciatemi_Guidare surely he MUST have more than one!
The Ipad thing took me by surprise. I know this is ancient news at this point, but occasionally I STILL can't get over the fact that James is actually by FAR the most modern/trendy/techy/whatever person out of the trio lol. Top Gear and Jeremy really hammered his "old lady" image into me.
James is far more relevant than his buddies just for the fact he can hold an iPad in his hand and somehow not look or sound like an old man while doing so. Even when he rips into Hammond for having a "third spare house", he comes across as so modest.
This video is *exactly* what we all expect James' essentials to be like
What a shameless plug to his whiskey and book ?? Who would have thought
I have 'Carbolic' and I've had James Gin. I gave up drink about 9 months ago though, so no more for me. I do remember it making things OK, but the problem comes when you start to rely on it making things OK. And then things aren't OK when you're not full of James Gin. And that isn't doing things properly.
May is brilliant, because of his mannerisms and sense of humour I think I could listen to him talk about pretty much anything and find some form of entertainment from it. I doubt Clarkson or Hammond would agree, though....
i totally agree
Clarkson actually enjoys his speeches when not acting, ironically clarkson brought him on top gear because they bonded over what they hate and he loves the way he responds to criticism. May just plays up his "boring" for the show
That random jab at Hammond was perfect in the end
We can't live without you May ♥️ (or cheese 🧀)
Amen
Or Lurpak :P

I swear we could just have a channel where James gives us five random thoughts that strike him as interesting per day.
id sub
I thought he would mention his little brush kit he has to clean all the vents and other tiny spaces on his cars. :) (The screwdriver commentary was epic)
After watching the guitar episode of The Reassembler where James talks about the JIS, seeing this makes me incredibly happy that he still holds it so high.
That infamous purple striped rugby top just brings me inner peace.
I want a new series where May talks about all the screwdrivers in the world. It could be called "Unscrewing the world with James May"
Or "Turning the world with James May". :)
a legend in a legends shirt
If anybody else put out a 6 minute video to plug their new stuff I'd hate it but because it's James I actually quite enjoyed it.
Like comment subscribe 😉
When James rants about how great the iPad is, he reminds me of David Brent. Trying his best to sound like a cool uncle.
May doing things properly once again. Wonderful. Liked, commented and subscribed.
Big up James may owning a ipad I love how he keeps update with tech.
How tf do they find 3 people so amazing, so entertaining and so interesting that even when they are not together, they are still amazing, entertaining and interesting? Still boggles my mind
I just watched an ad for things I can't or will never buy. And I was thoroughly entertained. Bully for Bim.
I'm reminded of my favorite Spaceballs line:
Take only _what you need to survive!_
It's my *Industrial Strength Hair Dryer, and I **_can't live without it!_*
I keep a nail clipper in all my vehicles. I also have one that I wear around my neck when fishing. Very handy things.
*1:06** Great simile, James! iPads are indeed like the Library of Alexandria as they suddenly and unexpectedly burst into flames, at least virtually (they crash and won't start any more) if not literally and all the content that was on it is lost forever. Avoid iPads at all costs, folks!*
Thank you James for explaining JIS. So many people don't but you are one of us 1%'ers who know. Bravo!
James may explaining why clippers are essential is peak May content :D
James May is my favourite human being to ever exist
i'm so glad i found this channel to get my hammond/may/clarkson fix. cannot get enough!
I have that screwdriver. It's included in the toolkit for a 1997 Honda Pan European motorbike. So they still made the same screwdriver 30 years later. Amazing.
I fully expected him to say "tools, Phillip Larkin poetry and everything laid out perfectly" amongst other things, lol
I have half a dozen of those reversible screwdrivers , for the car, bike, shed , kitchen and workshop etc. and its easily my most used tool , very handy 👍👍
Excellent James....
This was exactly as satisfying as I'd hoped it would be.
Never underestimate needing nail clippers. I’m with James on this, always have a pair with you, it’s amazing what these get used for, especially get the ones with the file.
I asked Ai to write a poem about James may and I was pleasantly surprised
Sure! Here's a short poem about James May:
In the world of cars and wit,
There's a man who's quite a hit.
With his gentle charm and keen insight,
James May's presence shines so bright.
A lover of all things mechanical,
He celebrates the unconventional.
From Top Gear to The Grand Tour's flair,
He takes us on journeys beyond compare.
With his affable and witty banter,
James May's humor is a true enchantment.
Through his words and infectious smile,
He captures our hearts mile after mile.
A connoisseur of knowledge and precision,
He adds intellect to every decision.
From building Legos with meticulous care,
To exploring the world with a curious stare.
So here's to James May, a true sensation,
An inspiration for exploration.
With his unique persona and delightful way,
He continues to brighten our every day.
He just can’t stop himself from trolling Richard! 😂
I agree - iPads/tablets are truly fantastic; a library, a museum, a fitness instructor...the world and beyond, literally at your fingertips. I've had quite a few though I largely use mine for reading my Kindle. Let us hope it doesn't go the same way as the Great Library of Alexandria - destroyed, diminished, deserted. I like the car, btw. :)
I think one of the things that James really cannot live without it is his Striped shirt 🙂
I just love the old man explaining and behavior so much lol. Love you Mr. James May
James's gin "makes things okay." Thank you, James.
James seems like the type of guy you could just talk with for hours, love he needs a podcast or something like that.
Brilliant as always James 😄 will keep an eye out for the book 👍
All I need is this screwdriver. And, this Gin. And, this…
(James May, Navin Johnson style)
i still have the exact same screwdriver from my honda toolkit from the 80's. fantastic tool, has saved me multiple times in the past.
They still make these screwdrivers in Honda toolboxes in more modern cars! I have one exactly the same as James's in my FR-V toolbox.
I'm surprised his Flying Scotsman with realistic chuffing sound wasn't included
That will be a reference some may get, and others won't
I love James.
Nice jab at Hammond LOL
Coming from The United States: I remember my first JIS Phil. Head Driver. I unknowingly preferred them to 'Murican drivers. I learned through time what they were (thank AvE). Unknowingly preferred them and still use the best driver (JIS) for the wrong application all the time (because its better). Only thing to change is the size of the driver.
I have my sharpened to a razor's edge red swiss army knife attached to my key ring. Same one I've had since cub scouts. I have about 50-60 different knives including the ones in my kitchen, machetes, several different buoy knives, who knows how many pocket knives, and a few different bayonets that mount on my rifles. Thing is every time I leave the house I will never forget my knife, because its attached to the key to lock the door.
Yaaaay. I was a Honda tech and I used to nick these from new cars, a fantastic useful tool. ✅
in italy there is a game that consist into spotting yellow cars, first who finds them gets to punch everyone
Pure genius. You have to be slightly eccentric to stay sane.
After watching this I ordered the exact screwdriver! Thanks James May! Also thanks for the signed copy of your book.
The digs at Hammond are perfect
The screwdriver bit is the most James May James has ever May'd
Great video James
Keep makeing these are great
Fully agree about the screwdriver - I have one the same, apart from it being Toyota badged 😀😀
Certainly agree about the iPAD me too. Best thing I’ve ever bought !
I have that screwdriver among my late fathers tools! I didn't know the origin of it, so it was cool to learn it here.
Looked up Carbolics on Audible and its narrated by James May. I have found a moment of peace with the world.
Shots fired!
James your a legend
Using nail clippers to cut threads - I feel so seen!! ❤
Great video.
The guy is a legend 🙌
Apart from the bit where James actually embraced the concept of the iPad, this might be the most James May video to ever exist.
There is no way James May could possibly live without the Flying Scotsman toy train with realistic chuffing sound and/or Spam.
Everything that was said about that screwdriver is 100% correct. I can confirm.
I keep nail clippers on my key rings also. I worked in the Restaurant industry and they were very handy.
Am I the only one who expected him to say the little brush he keeps in his car to brush dust out of the air vents? 😂
I have some of these Honda screwdrivers that came with the toolkit in my Legend's. Love them.
‘… starting with his third spare house in the Lake District’. Brilliant.
EPIC!!
Can't wait for James to find out about swiss army knives
Nice.
I got an old Honda, stil complete with that screwdriver.
Got one on my workbench also.
love the editing on this lol
You have too love Captain Slow!🤣
We can't live without watching the trio messing around with cars
Cool video! James is the best! You should ask if he would be willing to give a tour of his garage and kitchen bunker for a future video!
This screwdriver sounds legit awesome! If I had anything like that, I'd love it too.
This is the most James May list ever
I also have two of those screwdrivers. They also came with older Datsun toolkits...
Pink Purple and Yellow, only James May can pull that off.
Nice! I would love to learn more about James Mays tools 😊
Ahhh yes the legendary classic purple jumper is out once again
I'm surprised he didn't choose his magic gripping screwdriver from the reassembler
the pink striped sweater is goated
JamesGin is great for cleaning engines.
JIS screwdriver, James...I think that needs to be made into a drinky drink!
Love your Fab 5 !
*I also can't go anywhere without fingernail trimmers,
I also have floss & a knife with me at all times
Yes
Nail clippers I use to gently dig out wood or metal slivers or of my hands. In my field they do happen a fair amount times.
Nice colour coding the clothes with book cover 😉 😊
Liked. Commented. Subscribed…and ginned as it were. I never knew there was a JIS standard for screwdrivers. I learnt something today.
