Use knock down with systemic. August and September. The fall and beet armyworm eat until around first frost. Great video! The life cycle from moth to larvae to moth again happens 95% in the lawn and ground.

For real nasty luckily I put some duocide a few days ago. I’ve seen 2 moths in the grass so I know they are coming and planting eggs.

We are seeing them eating yards alive here in South Carolina! This has been a bad year for lawns.

New house build we planted 12,000 sq feet of new lawn week of August 17 and had great success by September 6. After 8” of rain Sept 18 there were army worms coming out of lawn in tens of thousands onto sidewalks and garage pads. In 2 days every boar of grass was gone. Had to turn everything over again, had it all professionally treated, then started over. Luckily the weather held and we now have decent lawn. Question is when should we treat again.

Thanks for sharing the knowledge. We get them in coastal NC here and there. Some years worse than others. No signs of them yet. STA in front, centipede in back yard.

Hi from Portugal, Europe! Yes, here they also go for cool season grasses and the turf completely dies. I'm applying lambda-cyalothrin and chlorantraniliprole on my customers for control.

4:35 I do like your opinion on catching them early and keeping it green, but even if it’s towards the end of the season, the whole goal of pest control in my opinion is setting yourself up for next year. Those army worms are gonna go out there breed, feed, and nest for next year. So if they’re already in the yard, make sure that your spraying them thoroughly so that way they’re not adding to the overall population next year. so that way you can maintain easier next year. Love the video.

Army worms in Saint Augustine can be devastating and kill the turf or At the very least make it very difficult to recover. We're going thru with them now in Florida. Dlyox 6.2 granular is a fantastic cost and time effective weapon against them. Also FMC released a generic version of acelrpryn this year so if cost is deterring anyone look into that.

Bermuda is so hard to kill and bounces back fast. I’ve heard for cool season turf that they can be more problematic especially if they eat down to the crown and the sun can damage the crown and plant die or if it’s dry and the crown is exposed and doesn’t get enough water and the turf dies … just a little extra I thought may be helpful to chime in

Serious question-what effect does Fire Ants have on army worms? We have them terrible in eastern NC.. and wherever fire ants are nothing else is, including ticks, fleas and other slow moving critters.

If you don’t kill the army worms won’t they continue to eat more of your lawn?

In 1980 when I was a kid at Loring AFB, Maine, there was a huge invasion. You couldn't ride your bike without leaving a trail of dead worms. Very nasty.
