My only possible 'issue' with the Glock as a military/SOCOM sidearm, especially in its Gen 3 or 4 configuration, is that it may be a tight squeeze for a gloved hand with the small trigger area and the finger grooves. That's where at the time I figured something like the Sig P320 Compact was ideal, and later the Gen 5 which at least removed the finger grooves....and where the earlier Sig P226 probably shined. But yeah, it makes total sense to switch to the 19, or maybe the model 45 with the 17-rd capacity.
What I'll also give Glock over designs like the Sig P320 or HGK VP9 is that Glock mechanism is so simple and robust, seemingly less small finicky parts than the others like sears and pins and extra leaf springs, it just seems more ideal to stand up to the rigors of use and elements. Some people criticize that simplicity as being 'cheap' (misguidedly so, IMO), but I see it as the real genius behind the design.

I literally just switched my duty weapon to a Glock 19. I carried an H&K USP40 and a USP9 LEM for a long time. I will not get rid my H&K’s tho. I will have my USP40 as my Home Defense weapon. I will go back and fourth with my Glock 19 and USP9 LEM. But I will probably use my Glock 19 more!!

Glock 30 is a soft shooting tack driving 45 ACP but a bit thick for CCW for me so I usually CCW it in colder weather . Glock 30 is legendary for sure.

I really enjoyed my mk23 best 45 ever made when you feel the recoil system working its amazing. It feels like a 9mm thats just bulky, I would buy another one if they made one with a 1913 rail and night sights would be magic

I bought a Gen 3 G26 back in the day. Since then have been issued 2 Gen 3 G22’s, 1 ea Gen 3 and Gen 4 G27, a G43, and a Gen 4 G17. The Gen 4’s are great.

USMC Force Recon / MARSOC needed to replace worn 1911's. The Colt 1911 already had a DOD number assigned to it, was in inventory, and could be ordered without opening lengthy bidding and trials.

Couldn't agree with you more... I love the 1911, I love the .45 and 40 S&W is also a favorite of mine, but with modern bullet technology the 9mm is probably the best option out there. Out of all the pistols I've ever owned Glock has always been the most reliable and trouble free, they just go bang every time you need it 👍
I agree. I do think that the .40 has found a nice niche in the 10 round limited states though.
Advances in 9mm ammo have made 9mm a pretty good round, but everyone forgets that the .40 has benefited from those advances too, and still beats 9mm, at least in terms of terminal ballistics.

@@davidmorgan9095 Of course the 10mm has more muzzle energy but you reach a point of diminishing returns once you get past a certain point when it comes to handgun calibers. A stand pressure .45ACP 230 grain ball round traveling at the standard 830 fps yields about 360 ft-lbs of energy, a 124 grain NATO spec 9mm at 1200 fps is roughly 400 ft-lbs of energy and a 180 grain .40 S&W traveling at 1050 fps will give you about 420 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. I don't know anyone who would wanna be shot by any of those rounds. With modern bullet technology the 9mm is probably the best balance between stopping power and ammo capacity plus with the cost and availability of 9mm you can practice and train a whole lot more. I have many pistols in 9mm, .40, .45ACP and I have a ten-mil aswell. My theory is 9mm for the hood, 10-mil for the woods, because the 10mm definitely shines if you have to deal with thick skinned heavy boned 4 legged predators when loaded with the proper bullets, but a .380, 9mm, .40 or .45ACP with good bullets and proper shot placement will definitely render a 2 legged predator harmless 😉🤗

If I had to carry ball rounds, I'd go with a .45. But with reliable hollow points, 9mm makes a lot of sense in terms of capacity and the weight of the pistol.
And cost. Cost is half as much as .45 ACP which is significant when it comes to training!
@@elitetrader5468 and 9mm ball has better penetration, but higher velocity. I'd choose 9mm ball all day. the millimeter or two increase diameter of the 45 wont make any positive difference un tissue destruction, but higher penetration will.
for the civlian, the 357 magnum is still a good option

I find a lot of information that you put out to be the same conceptions I have had from my former career track as an Infantry type having to field inferior weapons with the same bad information put out by the Army about why weapons don’t perform. The biggest examples being the MK14 EBR and the myths around why the M16/M4 family have issues in combat conditions. 3:33 Woah, wait a second... is that a MK12 Mod 0 with a 3 port muzzle brake on it (PRI CF handguard, in the background)? I've never seen a 3 port like that on a MK12 before. Is that a prototype or aftermarket? On second look, maybe a Mod H of some kind or a custom build? Barrel looks shorter than 18 inches without integrated front sight.

I wonder if you would do a review on the MEUSOC 1911s, and cover its different variants, different slide venders, sights and internal parts. I know that the 1911s supposed to be outdated and all, but I've heard different. I've heard that the Marine phased out the 1911s because the young kids nowadays cannot handle a single action pistol and its different safety features, you know, the grip safety and the thumb safety, they just want something that just point and shoot.

Few and far between compared to rifles and crew served weapons
The greatest beneficiaries of the US Military having pistols are the US civilian market.
I like and have used all of these pistols, the mk23 its like carrying a brick, but it is still a good shooter, but it is too big and bulky.
From experience with all these handguns in desert environments and forest environments, hammer fired with sand and mud don't agree. Cocked and locked carries the risk of being even more prone to jam.
This has made me gravitate toward striker fired for a combat pistol.
Glock is not a bad choice as long as it has maritime spring cups. Cause getting in water happens, especially crawling through the forest.
I used to hate on glock for a long time. But then I used it in rough places, and that changed mind.
As a caveat, I have seen malfunctions in all of these models, but getting a Glock back in the fight is the easiest, cause its just got to get back into battery. A stuck hammer requires cleaning to fix and you can't do that in the middle of a fight.
So if im going into a rough environment for work its a glock, until they get a striker fired pistol that convnces me to switch up. But honestly I really think the tech isn't really advancing, so probably going to have it be my choice until phasers are a thing 😂

Strikerfire is the way too go over a hammer gun any day. Easily shoot a striker gun a lot faster than hammer guns while having exceptional reliability.
Agree completely with the Glock platform especially with the .45 series Glocks, 21 and 30 hve a very special place in my collection and training.

Out of curiosity, what hammer guns have you shot that indicate slower firing? I have a FNX-9 (hammer fired) and it does DA/SA plus it has a super smooth DA trigger pull that I consider to be better than almost every striker fired pistol I've shot. Those few exceptions are fine tuned Sig or HK pistols intended for competition.
@@John-wk2fd One "flaw" with a DA/SA gun is you have to learn two different trigger pulls. Sure, once you are in SA the trigger is awesome, but it is the first shot that counts. And that first trigger pull pales in comparison to the trigger pull on a good striker fired pistol. And today's modern striker fired pistols have excellent triggers. People always criticize the Glock, but the trigger on the Gen 5 is quite good. Not as good as a PPQ, but very good.
@@elitetrader5468 oh yeah I completely forgot about the ppq. It does have a great trigger. On the subject of trigger pull difference, yeah I accept that having two different pulls is a setback but I get around this by carrying it cocked and locked. Although I have spent a lot of time practicing the DA trigger pull so it's not that bad for me.
Personally I carry a Glock 26 gen 4 because of its sheer ease of use. All I did to it was give it a heavier trigger reset spring and a ghost connector.
@@John-wk2fd Which DA/SA do you carry cocked and locked? Not all have this feature. Also, that is still an issue as one has to remember to disengage the safety during a defensive encounter. Yes, that can be overcome with training, but in my opinion simple is always better. I want to pick up the gun and fire. I love the 26 and pocket carry it as a back up gun to my primary duty gun on my hip (Glock 17/34, HK VP9, PPQ 5 inch, etc.). What effect do your G26 mods have on the trigger pull?
@@elitetrader5468 I should have clarified that a bit more. The FNX family of guns all have ambidextrous 1911 style safety levers that serve a dual purpose as a de-cocking lever when pushed down further. I should specify that I do not carry this gun ever, it's my competition gun and way too big for me to carry anyway.
My Glock 26 was immediately disassembled and polished. I replaced the sights with tru-glo tritium/fiber optic, put an extended take down bar in and considered it good to go. Eventually I bought a variety pack of internals to play with and tried a few different firing pin, safety plunger, and trigger spring combinations. I settled on stock plunger and firing pin springs and the stock trigger bar. By having the 3.5 ghost connector bar and a heavy trigger spring I get a slightly heavier trigger pull but it is a cleaner and less spongy pull. Personally I feel like the heavier pull is beneficial when under stress and speeding through a draw from appendix. Practice is always the most important thing and I keep my finger off the trigger until on target but I like the extra safety.

I love me a good nicely made 1911, you know, like a watch. You still wear nice watch even though you will most likely checking time on your phone or on your car's dashboard. It's more like a statement 😂 I wear my 1911 in a nice custom leather holster during the holidays, or family BBQ party
How did the slide finish hold up?
Both my 19 & 23 Gen 4's have crappy (easily scratched) slide finishes.
Gen 3 19 carry gun looks brand new.
Gen 4’s definitely have the worst finish. The Gen 3 frying pan is bomb-proof and I gotta say, I’m very pleased with the nDLC finish on the Gen 5s. The Gen 5 finish is super tough like the Gen 3
Glock’s black nitride absolutely sucks. You can literally rub it off with your fingers. Love the nDLC on gen5. The gen 3 guns and early Gen 4 releases have the “frying pan” finish which is tough as nails. They never should have left that. Must have been a cost issue.
You said the Glock 30 came out in 85, but it didn’t come out till 97. Love all the info though.

From what I've read, the P226 performed just as well as the M9 in trials, but the M9 was cheaper so that's what they went with.

R Solo actually the 226 was not the only pistol they used... the 239 was what they used for covert/ conceiled/ plain clothes Operations.... the Mk27 will fill both rolls, as it does for several

Just an observation: When LE had the da/sa guns the holsters had just a strap to keep it from falling out. Now you have Glocks with holsters that have 3 levels to get through before the draw....if you can't get a safety on the gun they will put it on the holster.
Could it be that agencies want to make it harder for people to draw the officer's gun in a grapple? My Safariland with ALS/SLS's retention is extremely easy to defeat for my draw, but has made it very difficult for others to take during force on force.
@@TerranPlanetaryDefenseForce This is correct. It helps with weapon retention in grappling and moving and climbing compared to straps on a leather holster. I'm a Chicago Police officer and have used Safariland holsters for 20 years. The SLS was a decent system but I've seen it malfunction if not cared for over time (loose screws, rust, etc.) I'm loving the ALS system with the thumb-mechanism. Awesome retention and quick to draw!
@@lionelhutz3142 I agree the ALS system is very good, however in Europe I had to wait a year for my order to come in. A good option in Europe comparable to the Safariland Level 3 ALS is the Italian RADAR 1957 HAWK series with its T-LEP system.

Sig all the way if its a pre-2005 Sig. The P320 is a great gun after the trigger and trigger bar change, but I still trust the Glock 19 more than the P320, untill the P320 can prove itself. Its an individual gun issue, you buy a Sig, you better prove that gun before you carry it. The p320 trigger is great, the Glock trigger is good but not great, though safer! Again train with the p320 and you can be safe with it, but its a much shorter lighter pull!
I don't doubt the M9 is a fantastic gun equal to the Sig or stronger than even the newer milled slide Sig. However I just can't get used to the DA pull on a Beretta, its heavier than many revolvers!
Bit of personal preference here but if you pull the stock trigger disconnect and trigger reset spring and replace them with a ghost connector and high strength trigger spring, you get a really nice firm trigger that doesn't "squish" like stock Glock triggers.
Edit: this is done on my personal gen 4 Glock 26 that I use for carry. Although I have not used a pressure gauge on it I think the trigger pull comes in at 6lbs

I'm curious. According to an article I read, and according to the actual NSN # database for the MK27, it says that it is actually the _G19 Gen 4 _*_MOS_*_ w/ threaded barrel._ Do you know if this is what the seals are actually using?
If I had to guess I'd say the MK27 version of the Glock 19 probably has a bunch of upgrades over the standard model and isn't commercially available to the public.
I saw one at Fort Bragg, it was a basic Gen 4 . They Navy could certainly have special requirements
I seen special ops compet and the 1, that choose the 92f got lost Bec the 9mm wouldn't knock the target over it would have had he put about 3or4 in row but buy time he put 2 on it it was coming back up where the other guy had to put 1 round on target to knock it over it was on the history channel it's been year ago and they was 2different special forces guys that had their own show 1 had black hair the other guy was bald it was the with hair I Believe.. and im a big fan of the 92f but im a fan of all of them tho im just saying and im pretty sure what he said about the guys with 45 not being able to keep up but it can always go either way
There is no magic caliber. The 45 has no mor knock down than the 9mm. It is shot placement especially with ball ammo. Many old wives takes and misunderstood impressions or ideas. Speak with a forensic medical examiner about magic calibers

Rod Dew nope. Standard glock 19 gen 4 MOS.
Glock doesn’t need a chrome bore - that nitrided polygonal bore is at least as durable than a chrome barrel with standard rifling grooves. Note the author documents 76K rounds through his original barrel Glock with no accuracy degradation.
Berretta and Sig were required per mile spec request, to have a chrome lined bore on their pistols. Question was will they/do they still require that on future military pistols.
G19 gen3 is the best Glock made in my opinion.

A factual opinion suggests the gen 5 is the best gun Glock has ever produced. They fixed the Achilles heal, which is the tension spring used for the trigger return. It’s now a compression spring, which will never wear out. Traditional Glock trigger springs snap at high round counts.
Regarding corrosion and use in saltwater, is the Mk 27 built with any additional phosphate coatings in the lower (on the trigger bar, etc) and what about the metal magazine liners? Not attempting to speak negatively about Glock AT ALL, merely curious if this is a COTS gun or not.
Jon L last I checked, the trigger group on all glocks (trigger bar, striker, striker plunger, and connector)are np3 treated. The locking block is np3 treated as well. I believe the two steel pins in the locking block are either tenifer or nitrocarburized as well.
For all that we own and enjoy, and in "normal" circumstances chose to carry, Glock is the 1 and only when Doomsday dawns. While striding downtown among the sheeple, concealability of a pocket pistol is of great advantage, and to repel a mugger at arms length or a carjacker from behind the steering wheel out the drivers side window, a snubbie revolver is ideal. Behind the cash register of a place of business, a 1911 is very authoritative. Wheelguns simple to operate and store in ready condition are useful for adult family members to defend the homestead. But in government work on the battlefield or enforcing the law a wundernine is the way to go.
I love Glock but they need to improve magazine ejection, Glock shake. Love the 19.
I agree completely that there is absolutely no need for a manual safety on a handgun.(period) As you say your trigger finger is your safety. Though I tend to take it a step farther. I tell people that if you’re in a situation where you feel the need to put a handgun on safe, you should just be putting it in your holster……

I don't disagree about the glock being safe but i choose a manual safety on my concealed carry because i carry pens in my pocket and sure as I've gained experience with carrying they are not on my gun side anymore but even last month a friend was at the range practicing drawing from concealed and fireing and accidentally discharged his weapon into himself when it got caught on his belt buckle

The m14 is a target rifle, the glock (and SIG) does better in practical shooting competitions. The difference between target shooting and practical shooting are vast and important to remember.

Yeah, well the M14 isn't even that great of a target rifle. AR's are much easier to accurize. I shoot USPSA so I do understand the difference. I'm just trying to stir the pot, that's all.
what is really funny is the initial USMC adoption of the G19 for CID and called it the M007. what flag officer let that happen. CID being nothing but clowns anyway.
I’m a Glock guy but I stated out in the Miltary Police Corps with a .1911 .45. I can sure fight with one, if anybody has one they want to transfer to me for free!
I’ve also heard the move back to 9mm is the pussification of the military and LE. Easier for everyone to qualify with and cheaper. The advances in bullet technology is overblown, any advances you have in 9mm projectiles you have in other calibers as well.
There is no clinical difference in being shot with a .45 vs a 9 mm. There just isn't with today's ammo. All handgun cartridges suck. Shot placement rules supreme and follow up shots are faster with 9 mm. And cost matters. 9 mm is 50% of the cost of .45.
No but there are other characteristics to consider, such as penetration of barriers. That has particular importance in a LE or military setting. A .40 is superior to both the 9 and 45. Cost, recoil, etc. are all variables, but speak nothing to performance.

I've never heard of durability being an issue with the 1911. Weight and capacity are definitely known downfalls but longevity and durability aren't. Reliability depends on build quality like anything else, but the skill of the armorer is a factor in it's reliability unlike the others in this video.

I owned at least 50 Glocks in my life, I’ve never had a single one rust. That includes guns that I had milled for red dots and didn’t bother to refinish the optic pocket.

The revolver comment. Yes, they have no manual safety, but they are double action.
Glocks are pretty much double action triggers.
And manual safeties are redundant on handguns. Its what holsters are for
you have 2 safeties already your finger and your mind add 1 more called training and you have 3 safeties
the safety is between the ears...That is all there is to it..
I cant use them since the glock jump causes massive shooters paulsy... I'd have to go polymer 80 which has a straight 1911 grip while being a glock..but then the 1911 has an advantage for me if it's one with straight mainspring housing so idk yet
