  • Hey Gang, I'm making more progress on the Mach 1 Cobra Jet. I work on prepping the bottom of the car for epoxy primer and undercoating. I used information from Jerry Heasley to help make my decisions. I used products from PPG, 3M schutz, and BASF. Good things are coming.

    I think it looks great, your attention to detail really shows in the finished product. I wish I would have used the Shultz product on my 65. A little late now, well I’ll do that on the next one. Learn something new every time I watch! 👍👍

    I've faithfully watched your content over the years, and have been glad to ring the bell, and add comments for you as well.. It's unfortunate, that so many of the content creators I've supported, over these years, have now felt the need to cater to Patreon angle.. That is a lot of work. I may not understand the red primer, but if that's what they want. I always worry about inside the rockers, doors, and other cavities that moisture can get into. I shouldn't talk as I have all of equipment & quarts of inner panel spray, but may never get that far due a deteriorating spine. 6'3" and can't stand or walk for very long.

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  4 місяці тому +1

      I painted the inside of the rockers too. Much earlier in the build.

    Thanks for another great video! Currently doing the same thing to my 67 Chevelle. Although I was debating sanding all of the EDP primer off on the underside. I ended up scuffing, epoxy primer and seam sealer. I will take it off on topside. I feel you pain of all that sanding.

    All that meticulous welding, grinding, and blending, only to be covered up with under coating. I thought for sure it would be body color.

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  5 місяців тому +1

      The only undercoating is in the mini tubs and front aprons. Like factory. This is how they looked in 1969. No body color underneath.

    Do you use metal prep before you put primer on? That would prevent most of the issues you are having with rust under the weld through primer.

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  5 місяців тому +1

      The weld thru was applied at the manufacturer. Not by me.

    • @filipewilson1842
      @filipewilson1842 4 місяці тому

      I guess their weld thru is porous, good thing you found the rust forming under it.

    ah ! treated like that the car will outlast the Egyptian pyramids , this is where u need a smart sand blaster , or one oh those laser blasters , bit of luck someone will donate one 🤗 I expect u will find lots of little things that need some TLC , now that u are starting to get down to the nitty gritty , body wise it will be some car , I would fill every gap with sealer , helps to keep out the rust worms

    I've applied caulking product in my trade for over 30 years, I do appreciate your craftsmanship but not your caulking abilities. ALL JOINTS require sealant and if done correctly with very low aesthetic impact. Anyone of us that has restored a vehicle know the automakers and their engineers didn't always get it right, caulking was one of those areas. "Period correct" or not, common sense should always prevail.
