Yeah especially with the two joycons you can have up to 2-4 player multiplayer or 2-3 co-op feature into story mode that also works online or on the go. The controls would actually be a very simple Switch from the GCN to the Joycons.
@@z3x454 i read an article about it and it was explained that the concurrence was too big for custom robo but it didnt made any sense to continue with the work of the second part
Damn i remember playing these games as a kid. The stories were basic but they were so much fun especially with the twist on the gamecube custom robo lol
I feel like the stories of these games don’t get enough focus here. They’re so goofy and very anime-esque and I love them for that. Plus the silliness allows for a variety of npc personalities that I really bonded with as a kid
When I first got the game (being 7), I always felt the need to restart the whole game because I couldn't find ONE dude in a weird hide and seek game. Shipley, fucker was hiding behind the clock tower once I picked up the game again years later.
Straight up, not even fucking lying, i was thinking about this today, i was like "I wonder when is What makes Custom Robo Unique, cause i fucking love that game, and im pretty sure he has heard of the game. That would be so fucking neat"
I used to own the GameCube version as a kid and probably played hundreds of hours of it by myself and with friends. That was an awesome explanation of the game. I would argue that another aspect that makes the game unique is its story which is admittedly kinda cheesy and cliche at some points but does have some genuine highlights and most importantly, makes the game feel more cohesive, as it's not just an arena fighting game but a fairly structured game that feels kinda like an RPG, with its own characters and narrative. It actually has some pokemon-like vibes, as you'll unlock the parts to customize your robos throughout the story. It's a shame this series didn't get more love.
Man I love Custom Robo. I played so *so* much of the GC game when I was younger. It's such a fun and unique experience, and I wish more people had played it.
This has always been and still my favourite game on the Nintendo, this was a really well made video, definitely subscribed after that, thank you for this amazing video
I remember playing my first and only custom robo game, the Arena game for the DS (shame that wifi ended with that game). My play style was using Luna with better jumping legs, area covering weapons (Meteor Storm and Geo Trap) and the main arsenal and personal weapon, the Wall Pod. I always jumped as close as I could to my enemy, sometimes shooting them to trap or stun them, and then drop the pod before jumping away. They deal a LOT of damage if used right.
They made the switch thinking co-op with 2 joycons would open up opportunity in games and then did NOTHING to capitalize on it. Custom Robo and Mario Kart Double Dash 2 are a couple examples of what could've been. RIP
Got nostalgia for arena tonight. Thank you for this video. Game has more depth than I ever realised and you made a very informative short video enough for me to go “yep that was fun, I like seeing the robots again, time for sleep” so much better than just watching a play through with people trying to be funny.
Ah man, That's a nostalgia trip right there. This is one of the only game series where I broke my usual convention of trying to build a character that can tank as much damage as possible, while still remaining as balanced as possible in other areas, and went for a high-speed glass cannon build instead. Swift with a gatling gun, satellite pod, and formula legs was what I usually favor, with my choice of bomb being mostly an afterthought since I don't use them much.
This is the first game that I completely finished from start to finish without cheats and glitches, sucks to see that there are no new installment of this game I've always wondered if there would be a new game continuing the story from where it ends..
Have you seen Synaptic Drive? The director is the creator of Custom Robo. Has very strong Custom Robo vibes and it's being worked on for Nintendo Switch.
While I am a little upset we may never see another Custom Robo game, the director of those games is making a new IP that is in a similar vein to Custom Robo! It's called Synaptic Drive and I highly suggest any fan of Nintendo's unique robot fighting to look up the game in question. As far as I know it's only coming to Steam and Nintendo Switch.
Thanks for the vid. :) just looking at the history of games for some fighting game to re/make. This seems great in the rather lacking isometric / 3d fighting arena games! Simple but must be tough to balance! Love it. Now to see whay power stone was about..
Honestly one of the best games I played in my life (DS version for me) I loved everything about it A few years ago I bought a Nintendo DS again as my old one was broken and this game was the first one I replayed :D I wish there was a new title for the switch
Custom Robo is a series I need to give another chance someday. I liked the gameplay in the GCN game enough but I reaaaaaally didn't like the story and at the time it did a lot to hurt my enjoyment of the game. Makes me think they should chill with the story mode and focus on a Smash Bros style where it's only a small part in a larger game (maybe they did in other games?). Assuming they ever make a new one.
The story is suppose to be basic but fun, even if there are some plot points that don't exactly click. Also the gameplay itself is already good, I don't feel as if it needs to be anymore smash then it already is. But not only that it has a first person mode which makes it into a new experience (sort of like remixing Smash with GCN Metroid).
I don't disagree with that assessment of the story. I just, at the time, found the plot to not be good even by those standards. But tbh, it was 2004, so I'm not sure what I would think about it now.
@@SliderGamer55 yeeeaaaah... The story wasn't great... But became a necessary evil back in the day to make for one of the very best multiplayer experiences on the GameCube among friends. Man, I would absolutely love a Custom Robo release on Switch.

all i remember about custom robo arena is that the halo gun is overpowered af when fired from the ground and the glider gun is somewhat overpowered when fired from the air
CRA is by far my fav NDS game. Hell, it's definitely among my top 5 games of all time (it might even be #1). CRBR was alright, but I preferred CRA and V2.
While old fashioned fans (myself included) would love a remake or a new installment of the game, you'd have to take into account what they have to compete with these days. A quality single player adventure with customization in every account would be nearly impossible to make without overcomplicating the gameplay. To make it popular it would have to be a high stakes value single player, or worse, it would be a complicated multiplayer franchise which would either A: Take money. or B: be too unfair with metas and lack of freedom. There would be no chance of value for a game this sweet and cute to make a comeback unless it dropped its self value.
Wish the sequel gets a first person mode like in Battle revolution, it made it easier to play in that perspective. Also it has to look as good as Custom robo: Battle revolution's CGI Opening ingame because 2017 C'mon Nintendo!
a few years ago i tried a demo of a game that was incredibly similar to custom robo in a nintendo stand: a 3ds digital only that got released around the same time as "chibi robo 3ds" Looked neat but i can't really remember the name, can anyone help?

What always bothered me about Custom Robo arena is the weapons. Some of them are pretty good, others must have been made by a troll. There are quite a few things I like in LBX more than Custom Robo, but ironically the weapon variety is much higher in Custom robo.
Anybody knows games similar to this on Android or PC? Watching some virtual-on tournaments for the ps2 was what got me into robot battle type games. I stumble upon this game for the ds and it's one of my favorite games of all times. Would like to play the game cube version.
