My Rarest Bottles Part 1 (Bourbons, World Whiskies & Cognac)

- Here we have all my rarest bottles on one table. This video (part 1), showcases my top bourbons & world whiskies (of course I forgot to pull the Laugavulin 21 & Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix for this video, but you can see the L21 in the "My Blended & Single Malt Whiskys"). As for the Snow phoenix, I'll have to put it into my next "New Bottles" video.
As of 8-11-2012, my current bottle count stands at 888 total bottles. I have 540 different ones on the bar & another 348 in back stock. I'm a Certified Specialist of Spirits and I've been actively researching & collecting for the last 18 years. What started as a small basic bar has transformed (with the help & understanding of my wonderful wife) into what I think is a pretty nice collection. Thank you for looking and sharing in my hobby.
Cheers! - Навчання та стиль
Wow that is some super rare stuff. Very cool to see this. I am glad most are open and you are enjoying them.
That is a stellar collection. Thanks for sharing. Happy drinkin'!
I watched this video a few years ago when I just started out on my whiskey journey . Second time around now I'm just floored at the Amazing bottels you have. Cheers!
Yes, at the time this video was shot (12-2-2011) I would have considered Hirsch 16 one of the best Bourbons I had ever had or ever been created. Since then I have had many more great Bourbons but I still would rank it in my Top 5. Those would be Old Rip (or Pappy) 23, George T Stagg, Parker’s Heritage Golden Anniversary & ’12 Four Roses Small Batch. The current Mitcher’s are well made but to me they’re not to the level of those yet. But as I always say, everyone's palate is different. Cheers!
Marvelous collection of yummy whiskies!
Excellent work again my friend. Your knowledge amazes me.
awesome collection!
i have a lot of fun watching your videos.!
Wonderful collection.
HOLY CRAP what an amazing collection
My mind has been blown.
Great video !
Real nice!
What an amazing collection! I first watched this video eight or so years ago when I was first getting into bourbon. Now, I can truly appreciate what I am seeing. Thank you for sharing. BTW, that Booker's was barreled (not bottled) in 1979, Feb. 16 according to the lot #, so probably bottled in 1986/7.
13 min well spent, cheers my friend!
4000 of the views on this video are mine. Incredible collection. Thanks for sharing!
I must say impressive collection, one of my favorites in your video is the El Tesoro 70th Aniversario. The black cherry notes on that...*drool*
Great. Wonderful.
You are correct about the Snow Phoenix, it sold out very fast. I live 2 hours away from the Distillery so went there to get a bottle and the staff there said it was selling incredibly fast so i bought one of the last 2 cases they had ! and as i was paying for it someone came in and bought the last case. So you are correct about its rarity. Your vids are very good and informative by the way.
Nice stuff. In the end it's about the drinking like the chap in Sideways learns. I say save the Tres to share with your best man on your wedding, your child on their graduation from college, or a some such occasion. Cheers.
HOUSE PARTY AT LIQUoR HOUND's
Good one! I can enjoy a good Cognac as much as the next guy, but 50k for a bottle of Black Pearl was ridiculous. I know if I had dropped that much on one, I could never have enjoy it. I'd be having a glass and thinking "Is this really worth the additional $47,000 over the regular Louis XIII?"
Cheers!
My lord those are some wild bottles. I hope you still have them. That ORVW 23 is on a website for $45,000
Thomas H Handy that you can find in your local liquor store 😭😭😭 those were the days
Nice Whiskey...
Amazing Collection! Let me know when your party is and I can bring the Bunt Cake and snacks! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, some very interesting bottles you certainly don't see on the every day shelf. I understand why you haven't opened some of them. Might want to sell them later for a profit to buy some everyday drinking bottles.
Hey bro! I FINALLY got out of the doghouse! LOL! Nice collection. I disagree with you about the OC Classic 90. I have both the Frankfort and Louisville juice and I think the Louisville juice is slightly better. It is also more difficult to find. Great job. Look forward to your videos as always.
Hi again,as i am not a specialist...but i what i can say is that i realy do like 1 brand...and thats the 1 bottle i like to taste. Jack Daniels "Single Barrel"Anyway, you are doing a great job with your reviews!
Very nice collection, Im a huge bourbon guy myself , I have a nice bar setup but nowhere near your size lol
awesome! Really enjoy your videos... *subed
Love the videos, keep it up! Quick question, how many open bottles do you normally have?
Love your videos! What makes you decide to crack into some rare bottles, and keep others closed?
Correction: While they did consider rebuilding, Heaven Hill's owners noticed Diageo was leaving the bourbon business (keeping Bulleit, IW Harper, and Dickel) so they bought the Bernheim distillery from them. Bernheim had been built by United Distillers (which became Diageo a few year later) in 1992 so the buildings were still pretty new when Heaven Hill took over.
Nice collection. I have only a small collection in comparison 40 or so primarily Whiskey, with 2 or 3 Scotch (triple distilled types). Best one would be a 44 year old Willie Napier...even manage to try that once, mine is still unopened :)
Does old Bourbon taste softer and rounder than current product (like old 80's and before Scotch tastes softer and rounder)(apparently something to do with old manual methods of production vs automation)?
Chris - Always wanted to know.....How long does Whisky or Cognac last once opened? What do you do? Is it age or is it ABV that helps the product to last once opened?
I love your videos. You have whiskeys/bourbons, vodkas, tequilas, gins and rums. What about brandys and cognacs?
I found a bottle of Glenlivet 18 in a blue box. Everything I've found of it says it's a 1990 release. Blue label. Is there anything else or other information on this release?
Do you ever plan on making a list of all your drinks and putting it on your channel page.
Wait a minute. Jim Beam also did a cognac finished bourbon? I just bought the latest Parker's Heritage 2011 so it's surprising to learn that a cognac finished bourbon has been tried before.
Man, I need to find out where this guy lives and have him invite me over for drinks!!!!
Hey Liquorhound. I'm a big fan of your videos and specifically bourbon and American whiskey reviews. I have a difficult question for you; what do you think is the best spirit? For me its whiskey, and specifially bourbon because of the variety of grains used in the mashbill and the new charred oak barrel aging. Where as a spirit like vodka usually doesn't have much done to it and is meant to not have much flavor. Curious to know about what your favorite spirit is! Thanks.
For a long time it was Bourbon, but now I find myself digging the crazy variety of flavors that can be found in Single Malt Scotch. But I guess it just depends on my mood of the day, because I still crave great bourbons. Cheers!
where did you find that'43 Mt Vernon?
or ......you could buy a house.....
Hnaa!!...j/k, Gotta love collections and the pride and intrigue they add to life. I've got a decent collection going myself. But not nearly as good as this. But the crazy thing is I don't actually drink that much...I just love the different flavors....personalities of the spirits...and history behind them all..plus the buzz if you want. It's defiantly not collecting stamps. I try and find people who can relate to my love of spirits when I talk about this stuff to even my heavy drinking friends and family and they look at me all crazy and say..."I've never even heard of that..I just drink (enter standard here)"
I totally understand and agree.. I have about 38 bottles, not collectable but good drinking bottles. I too don't drink much, probably 3 times a week, but only 1-4 ounces at each setting. I just love the taste and history, but if I drink to much than I end up with a unpleasant headache and have problems sleeping. So, I guess this is a good thing. Anyway's not good to over indulge in any one thing to much I guess. It certainly doesn't stop me from collecting good scotch. Great comment.
louis XIII 0_o thats sick
Do you not collect Cognacs/Armanacs? I noticed very few in your other videos as well.
How long can an Half bottle of whisky be kept for , 1 year , 2 years , or less ?, I don't drink , I only sip 3 or 4 times a week . Please advise. Thanks. Beautiful bottle selection there.
If you don't take measures to prevent oxidation, you probably should finish them within a year or two. There are many variables though. If it's a high abv bottle or if it drinks hot (big spice), you could probably extend that a year or two further as it could use some calming. I use a tank of argon to gas roughly 95% of my open bottles to prevent oxidation/flavor loss. For smaller home bars, a wine preserver spray works well. Cheers!
I once saw that Louis XIII in Ontario. It was selling for $3000
Nice collection! I love it , I have mostly congac so far . I do have the luis the 13th but its new version of yours. So how did you acquire the older bottles ?
Thank you! Well I’ve been collecting for a couple of decades, so I was able to pick mine up off the shelves over the years. Thanks for watching and cheers!
@@LiquorHound couple decades? You sound young to be collecting that long ! What state are you from ?
Any thoughts on hunting down a bottle of Loch Dhu? It's widely accepted to be the WORST single malt whisky ever and because of that it's now a collector's item.
whats your best cognac
Let me preface this by saying this is an incredible amazing collection. However, i heard that open bottles can only last 2-3 years tops if it is at the shoulder level, halfway even less. I really hope those old bottles from the 30’s and 40’s don’t have the original bourbon in them.
If you don't do anything to them, you'll probably get 6 months to a year without losing noticeable flavor. I use a argon tank to fill/replace the oxygen trapped in my open bottles. For smaller home bars you can just use a wine preserver spray (like "Private Preserve"). You can buy them from Amazon for about $10 and they say you can get 120 uses out of one. They recommend a 1 sec. spray followed by 3-4 small bursts, but when I was using them I sprayed them heavy (2 seconds long and 3-4 short bursts), so I only got 70-80 good seals per can. The key to using gas is that you do not disturb/move the bottle once it's gassed (which will disrupt the gas layer). Here's an old video of mine where I talked about oxidation and the spray (starts at the 4:22 mark): ua-cam.com/video/VWYYGS4wStQ/v-deo.html . To see the larger argon tank that I use, here's a video that shows my setup (starts at the 10:18 mark): ua-cam.com/video/vGic-_cI5FM/v-deo.html . Cheers!
@LiquorHound
By the way, if Fred Noe gave you permission to open that bottle of Booker's, I think you'd better get to it.
amazing !!! dare i say that i am jealous and motivated ??? how long have you been collecting ?
24 years in total. Thank you and cheers!
Noticed you said that you forgot to show the Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix. It's claimed to be rare, but there was actually a bottle production of 60,000. I was curious as to know how "rare" it is so I figured id just shoot them an email and thats the number they replied back to me with
Whenever I am watching your videos I feel nervous with all the expensive bottles so close to the edge of the table. Have you ever dropped any?
where is your Louis XIII black pearl ? ;) and is one is 'Rémy Martin Louis XIII Rendez Vous 2000'
Remy Martin Louis xiii rare cask should be there too
Most expensive bottle?
how do you pay for this?
It sure is good, but to call it THE Best bourbon ever created, hmm...Bought one from Gerry's in London a few years back and it cost me 65 £. Michter's for example has come out with some pretty unparallelled expressions these days
Here is a replacement for your CC 30 Canadian Whisky, soon to be released.

Thanks! I saw that one being released around the same time as the Northern Border Collection. It'll be the oldest to date, and I'm sure it'll be tasty, but the price has me hesitant. Cheers!
The Lot 40 12 year cask strength will be the star of the NBC and the least expensive. Cheers
Great minds... I totally agree and am currently working on securing one to review. Cheers!
Lol show off!!
Dont´t ever get kids man. They will get 16 years old and have parties at home. Yeah, you know what I mean. It only takes one night...
Very nice collection , Im a huge bourbon guy myself . I have a nice bar setup but nowhere near your size lol
