🥁☕💯👍
Please react to this sir. TIA! 🙏
Sorry I don't have much to tip you now.
ua-cam.com/video/68PRmpPgRfM/v-deo.html
You're the first one to react to this guy.
I think you are a great person
I rd don't know how you can live without your guns
He also hits so damn hard too!
@@JasonRyanWilson YUP!
The double kicks at the end is atomically powered.
His drumming in A Perfect Circle was amazing.
100%
Yeah, and honestly they did not sound as good once he left. His drumming is so special.
Agreed
What is crazy is that I saw "A Perfect Circle" opening for NIN back in 2000, and I'm pretty sure that Josh was with them on that tour. I bet that tour is where Trent met/noticed him and then ended up poaching him later. He's such an incredible drummer, it's no wonder that Trent would want him.
@@gustafsone oh yeah. He was with A Perfect Circle for 12 years. He's a founding member and then eventually left for whatever reason. So yeah, in 2000 that was definitely Josh playing.
Love Josh Freese. He played drums for A Perfect Circle, and his drum sounds on their album Thirteenth Step are among my favorite ever. Like this video, just an absolutely unbelievably tasty snare sound. Legitimately one of the best drummers around.
Def one of the best Eric. Inarguable
I agree, I have seen him play for a perfect circle and nin a few times, he is amazing!!
Just listen to Vanishing and your life will be complete
He's sick, love APC with him!!
Foo Fighters Incoming!!!
... and now he is the official Foo Fighters drummer! Damn! So good \m/
I've been playing the Drums for 28+ years now and Josh Freese was the reason I wanted to learn the drums. Had a Vandals album (Live Fast) and said "This drummer is different". He's just amazing.
One of the best IMO. Phenomenal
Dude's like Christopher Lee. He's done everything and always nails it. True legend.
I got the pleasure of seeing Freese play with NIN years ago and it was incredible, and I'm not even a big NIN fan but I had to see him!
One of the absolute best ever
The craziest thing about this is that THE WHOLE CONCERT is like this! He is literally an inhuman machine to be able to keep this pace for ~2 hours a night, every night, for a whole tour! It's just unbelievable!
Honestly this. I’ve seen NIN 3 times the energy in the first and last song is essentially the same. These guys sound 10x better live and the energy is like infinite
I went into a Guitar Center in North Carolina in 2012 on a random Tuesday and he just happened to be there putting on a drum clinic, I think he was there on tour with Puscifer at the time, and he was talking about how like, 30 minutes before the show, sometimes, Maynard would come backstage and be like, "We're doing the set in a country western style tonight" and they just had to do it on the fly (obviously they'd rehearsed before but, not knowing you were gonna do it one way and having the other way in mind all day can be challenging). Really among the top rock stars of the past 40 years. Also basically a human metronome
Oh wow great timing!
He's an extraordinary drummer, he can play everything, he plays drums for pop artists, punk, metal, it´s amazing. I think I first heard about him about 20 years ago when he played drums for The Offspring. He has a typical "ping" (I don´t know exactly what to call it) on the ride cymbal, it sounds so good, very clear sound.
Yup he has definition and clarity
Josh is a beast!! His time with NIN were some of my favorite tours. And of course, every note he plays on Mer de Noms is just sublime.
Yes Amanda. One of the best IMO
@@AndrewRooneyDrums at the beginning of the video you talk about those tight snare sounds, his are so distinctive!! I don't know many drummers who have such a snappy hit sound.
Josh is a superb modern session drummer, one of the best...if your band can afford Josh and he agrees to play with you, you've made it!
100%!
He's sick love APC with him
He just got himself a. Well deserved payrise. He's elite🎉
He’s always been super flexible too where if he likes your band & you don’t have his daily rate, he’ll take back end points on sales.
Every one of those NIN live vids are a masterclass. He slays it
Saw Mr. Freese playing with Sting a few years ago. He played in the styles of Vinnie Colutia, Stewart Copeland, Omar Hakim and Manu Katche perfectly, while also making ut his own.
Very powerful drummer with tons of technique and finesse.
Would have loved to have seen that gig Dean
I had the opportunity to see Josh Freese play with NIN at Red Rocks just outside of Denver. The man was a metronome, powerhouse, and a wrecking ball at the same time. Nine Inch Nails is notorious for a chaotic and crazy live performance that is, at the same time, nuanced and perfection. Josh Freese embodied all of that and more!
The Foo Fighters have got something special nabbing him. Guy is on another planet, a joy to watch.
One of the best
Josh Freese has been one of my favourite drummers for a while, but its funny, I seem to find out he's drummed on so many of my favourite songs and I only realise years later.
He forgets what songs he's played on too. It's that many
Well done Foo Fighters for making the right decision. A movie to see is "the other f word" and it shows Josh being an awesome dad. He has leveled up in being 😎
More Josh, he is amazing.
Definitely Daniel!
He is a BEAST! Love to watch him play!
One of the best hired gums on the planet! A great choice for the Foos.
This song is on my drum jam playlist, always feel euphoric at the ending crescendo. You just can't finish the song without giving it all you got!
100% agree with you. Amazing player who will make the band sound amazing
Saw him play with APC, NIN, DEVO, and Sublime w/Rome. It's funny watching other bands live performances and seeing him appear behind the kit. NIN really wore him out.
Josh Freese is the shit! Had the privilege of watching him perform with Vandals several times. Dude is a beast. He's so good that he started playing professionally at the age of 12. That's fucking nuts. I do believe he has some writing credits on Guns n Roses "Chinese Democracy".
That was fantastic!
Glad you enjoyed it Sharon!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I also really enjoy his drumming with A Perfect Circle.
Josh had a sweet teacher also Vinny Colaiuta another studio Goat!!!
Oh right. I didn't know that. Thanks Harold
I got the chance to buy Chris Vrenna (original NIN drummer) drum set. He talked about how awesome Josh was in the studio. He said he could listen to a song once or twice, go in and bang out the drums first try. He said he wouldn't write anything down, wouldn't talk to anyone, wouldn't ask what an artist wanted. Would just nail it the first time. He said that's why he is in such high demand.
OMG Tim.
That's mad
@Salvador Diaz del Valle Santana Yes! When I saw it on Reverb I couldn't believe it. I've got one just like it, mine only had 4 Tom's and no snare and a virgin bass drum. I really just wanted his for the snare drum and the 18" floor tom. The snare drum alone goes for $1200. Chris is a really cool, laid back guy. He took my wife and I out to eat and we sat there and talked for four hours. Got to see the Grammy he won with that drumset, saw all the Marlyn Manson paintings he owns and the David Bowie stuff he's got hanging up. But of course my dumb butt was worried about the horrible storm that was about to start so I didn't get a pic with him, autograph or a C.O.A., wish I could get the COA...
@Salvador Diaz del Valle Santana I forgot to mention that he gave me the hardware fight case with NIN logos all over it plus a 1st gen. Zildjian spiral crash.
You were right that was pretty awesome. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
I got the honor of seeing this live. NiN is an incredible experience to go see. Thanks for the reaction Andrew!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Leaning into it like an Olympic ski jumper ;-)
HAHA
Not much mentioned, but the drums on Art of Rebellion by Suicidal Tendencies. Just wow, been a fan of Josh Freese since. And now he's permanent for Foo Fighters!!
Dude's a certified beast on the kit! Can't wait to see what he does with the FF
I absolutely love his playing. I can’t think of another drummer whose parts sound so spontaneous and urgent while at the same time so richly composed. His playing on “Weak and Powerless” is just brilliant.
Saw him play with Sting a few years back and I thought I would be disappointed that it wasn’t Vinnie. Nope. Josh slayed.
Thank you for the great vid!
I have to see him live at some point
he’s personally in my top 3 drummers in NIN, even above everyone’s favorite Ilan Rubin
My favorite drummer and it's really not even close. Phenomenal timekeeping, pinpoint-precise fills, never more than the song needs, and an incredible sound. I love lots of drummers but there's nobody else quite like Freese.
100% Daniel. If I could sound like anyone... I'd choose Josh
Watch the Vic Firth Drum Cam video of Danny Carey doing “Pneuma.”
Then you’ll have another favorite drummer. 😂🤘
@@DM-il1hf I love Danny and have seen that. Josh is still my favorite drummer. Lol.
I’ve been a fan of Josh’s since the Vandals. Big fan!
Josh is a true bad ass..such a well rounded drummer.
Freese has the best live sound i've ever heard at a show.
It was with a perfect circle and he had a beast DW kit.
I've seen hundreds of amazing shows and he still has the best sound ever
Every NIN tour in australia (except when I gave birth and the played days after).
Amazing. Always.
He is the best modern rock drummer that I’ve heard. All hail the Freese!
Next I’d like to see/hear your reaction to Greyson Nexrutman performing anything.
Good morning from New England Andrew...Great vid man...Josh is one of those drummers that's been around a long time and has played with many pll over the yrs and this vid proves why.. Such control, facility and vocabulary that makes it look so easy but I suspect it isn't that easy if you sat down and tried to play it..very hip...Peace from the Northeast..
Dead right. He's making this look effortless.
I'm also digging the fact that he's using real drums in an Industrial band that has all sorts of pads and backing tracks going on. Thx
Me too Brian!
Was already a NIN thing.
Josh MEANT that shit! Conviction, baby!
100% Benny!
Dudes a machine
And now the drummer for Foo Fighters😁👌
Ah yes! I came across this video on recommendation years ago, and have had it on my UA-cam Favorites ever since. It's an extraordinary performance...to play that relentlessly and tightly with strobe lights flashing in your face, and god knows how hot it is onstage...a pure machine.
That's Josh's trademark. You know you get world class every second of his input. Mind blowing
That was incredibly precise and "tight".
Yup!
Hey Andrew! Big fan of Josh Freese. I saw him with A Perfect Circle during the 13th Step tour. He had injured his right knee/leg prior to the concert I attended and played the entire set with his left foot, playing every drum part as it was recorded on the album. It was incredible. He inspired my drum playing as part of a prog rock band in the early 2000s. Great request and reaction!
There were 2 tracks that blew my mind in my formative teenage years. The first was Stigmata by Ministry, and the second was this one. It's just pure aggression. It's filthy and I love it. The whole EP, really.
I remember being in college when this EP was released. I had loved Pretty Hate Machine and played it to death. I was so pleasantly shocked when I heard how brutally chaotic this was...loved Ministry, too. Was a big Burroughs fan, so Just One Fix was a natural...
good taste my friend. I would have never gotten into writing music without those two bands. now just throw the sisters of mercy in the mix when you need to calm down and catch your breath. :)
Josh Freese is my favorite drummer of all time!
From playing with the Vandals to Sting to Bruce Springsteen to Daughtry to Devo!!
Josh Freese is a champ, you're getting closer to watching some of Ilan Rubins drumming.......
Can't wait to get to Ilan!
Just been announced as the new Foos drummer...exciting times.
One of my all-time heroes.
WOW! Andrew, NIN and Josh freakin' Freese. Great way to start my day. Great video Andrew, cheers!
Thanks for watching Noah!
His sound on those drums is also part to do with Trent being a perfectionist. Josh’s playing on Peefect circles Judith is amazing
Perfect harmony of drum and composition
i always come back to this performance
That’s the sound! Josh is one of my favorite drummers. His timing, feel, chops, what he plays/composes, and he just has style. Truly a master. Rock and roll. More freese please.
One of the absolute greats.
Incredible player
“How can he sound that good?” Mate, it’s Josh Freese, don’t ask questions you don’t want the actual answers too. He’s part of the Disney family and his powers are 100% magical
I am a HUGE josh freese fan. I got into the drums because of danny carey, but growing up listening to a perfect circle really made me fall in love with josh freese. glad foo fighters chose a very credible replacement to the late and great taylor hawkins.
Saw Josh play, only once.
Ironically, when A Perfect Circle had their debut tour, with NIN.
If you want to be an overlooked musician, there is no better way to achieve that, than to be a session drummer.
It's like blue on black.
Always tight and precise. Also he can drumming every band or singer on this planet, whatever the genre. One of the best.
If I could play/sound like anyone... probably Josh
Josh Freese is a machine, but also very creative. He's like the punk rock version of Buddy Rich.
Great call Stephen!!! Agree totally.
Total freaks the both of em
I'll be seeing him and his FOOS on 8/4/23...OMFG
If anyone is seeing this comment a year later, Josh also played drums on the Fuel album "Angels & Demons". It didn't do great commercially because that's also when Fuel replaced Brett Scallions with Toryn Green (who was great IMO and never got a truly solid situation to flourish in) and also because it was around that time that radio rock starting fading. Tommy Lee did play drums on the song "Wasted Time" but Josh was on the rest of the album, and he made it one of my favorites. Plus, he just got signed on with the Foo Fighters! Can't wait to see how that shakes out!
Josh Freese is in my top 10 favourite drummers. I got to watch him twice playing for Nine Inch Nails on two tours and as much as I love Rubin, I think he was the best for NiN.
His ghosting on Piggy is some of the most stunning and beautiful yet subtle drumming ever. And he plays a solo on the ending live. I’d love a react on that. It’s so groovy
Everything he touches is gold IMO Jonathan
@@AndrewRooneyDrums and now he is confirmed as Foo Fighters drummer. So incredibly happy.
Josh Freeze = GOAT!
Freese is definitely up there with the greats! Imo
No doubt!
Josh with APC was epic - Love his track on Judith!!
I first heard him when The Vandals came out. Loved him ever since
Love this song so much, Trent's vocal range is massive! 🏴
Yeah Josh is a beast!! So glad the Foos hired him!!
My roommate in 2004-2006 was a drummer and we were both fans of APC. I definitely know who Josh Freese is.
Best NIN drummers in my opinion…..& before you all come for me, I’ve seen NIN live on every tour since Self Destruct….including the European With Teeth / Performance era warm up shows with Jerome Dillion…& the time they played a super intimate show at the Scala in London.
1: Ilan Rubin
2: Jerome Dillon
3: Chris Vrenna
4: Josh Freese
(I’ll omit Jeff Ward, Alex Carapetis & Ron Musarra as they didn’t play full tours).
Rubin takes the top spot for me, not only because he’s an incredible drummer / multi instrumentalist; but also for his overall contribution to NIN….I mean, why else would Trent select him to join the lineup that was inducted to the RRHOF?? (Rubin bejng the youngest ever inductee).
He’s the longest serving drummer & also the fourth longest serving member of the band after Reznor, Fink & Cortini.
Making me like Freese again!
He is what you would call a quintessential session drummer which for real musicians professional musicians we know that means he comes in when your drummer can't do the things the producers asking him or whatever the song is asking him because session drummers and session players don't make mistakes and they don't take a credit often
💯
His performance on Suicidal Tendencies Art of Rebellion and A Perfect Circles first album are phenomenal!
YES!
That video floored me the first time I saw it and I instantly became a Josh Freese fan. He is an absolutely amazing drummer, and one of my favorites.
Yes David. He is an all time hall of famer.
Sensational player
Ive been following him since the early 2000's and first heard his work with The Vandals. I was so happy when i found out he was named the drummer for The Foo Fighters! Hes amazing!
Tottaly dude, this guy has a awsome resemea, Evanescense, guns, perfect circle etc he is an animal
Yup all the big stuff. GET JOSH!
Josh Freese is one of my favorite drummers ever. Master of pocket when needed, can do everything, impeccable drum sound, never afraid to try new stuff, always plays for the song. An absolute all-timer.
Josh Freese is my favorite drummer by a long shot.
Josh is an all time great! Love the Beside You In Time NIN concert movie, his "Playboy Mansion" solo song, the time he played with Sublime with Rome (Esp. Skankin' To The Beat.. I love his playing in Sting... he really is the go-to Rock drummer! Lovely!
That was during the Lights in the Sky tour I believe. The best live performance of anything I've ever seen. Everything from this tour was so gpddamned tight and the visuals provided by Moment Factory were amazing. I've seen this show 3 times (in person, I've watched the blu-ray a few more times) and I never got tired of it. Freese had been touring with NIN since the With Teeth tour though. I will agree his drumming sounds so clear and crisp, even live. That was a blast.
I don’t know if he still does it but 20 years ago he would sell packages on his website for his solo albums. Insane stuff like studio time with him at his studio(writing together or just having him play drums on tracks, etc), or meeting him in la and having dexter fly the 3 of you to sf then eat at a Panda Express then dexter flys you all back to la.
Him and his panda express! HAHA
@@AndrewRooneyDrums might have been P.F. Chang’s, upscale Panda Express. 😂
It would spark every mental disconnection in me to play a concert in those strobe lights!
best drum channel eeever
Yo thanks!
Fell in love with Josh with the Vandals, few can match his consistent groove. Monster!
Can’t wait to see him with the foos on their tour this year
The dude is beyond killer OMG 😳🤘🤘🤘🥁🥁🥁
I’m starting to realize that maybe Josh Freese is the best rock drummer of all time.
One of my favorites. Love the work he did with A Perfect Circle. Went to see Weezer and got a treat as Josh was playing drums since Patrick Wilson decided to step out front and play guitar and sing for that tour. (if I remember, they were opening for Blink 182 on their reunion tour) Love his precision, power and showmanship.
Yes - Fantastic snare tone!
I love Drums I want to learn
Good luck!
This insane bro.
YUP Bruce!
He's a legend.
100% William
If memory serves...@Josh Freese broke his right leg during one of the NIN Tours and instead of calling in a sub, he played the rest of the tour with his left leg on the kick drum.
I’d believe it
WOW! Josh really is amazing, he can do it all! He truly is one of the best in the business. Saw a video of him recently working with the Foo Fighters shortly after he got the nod for that gig. Super nice guy and an honest team player. That's one of the many things I love about him, his humility and that work ethic, WOW! What a great fit for such an iconic Band.😃
Those are some pretty sweet accents at 3:32!
I love your videos so much that I’m going to share a Josh story here that only maybe a dozen people know of.
I’m not naming the band because this is rather embarrassing for them.
A buddy owned an indy label & signed a band. He flew them to Cali to record an album & the day before the sessions started the singer/leader of the band fired their drummer & put him on a plane back home that night.
Obviously that was a stupid, stupid move. The studio was booked & paid for & they only had rough demos to use for reference.
So the label head does what any smart record exec would do, he gets on the phone & tracks down Josh.
Josh had commitments only 5 days later but he agreed to get the album recorded.
So they hand deliver the rough demos to him, he listened & figured out what he wanted to do in 1 day & the next morning he was recording & he wrapped it up in 2 days in the studio.
A band he’s never heard! 1 day of learning the songs & 2 days to complete the recordings! A full length album! That’s insane!
Here’s the hilarious (and embarrassing part) because the band had made a huge mistake & they were in a monster pickle, Josh was able to negotiate back end points on sales & a LOT of them!
It sold over 15 million copies & he paid his house off for 3 DAYS WORK!
Practice! Practice! Practice! And be smart about your schedule & always keep windows available to accept last minute gigs. If you’ve got the chops you’ve got the upper hand in negotiations.
And if you’re a band leader, don’t make any rash, knee jerk decisions like canning a member prior to recording because it would literally cost you millions of $.
He is a BEAST!!! His playing is as good as anyone
that's so subjective and depends on the genre.
