Original Movie: 28 Days Later
Cillian Murphy going full beast mode on those soldiers will always be savage.
Fun Fact: They had to add music to the scene where Jim walks around empty London because a bunch of people nearly had a heart attack in a test screening when the car alarm went off.
It would be interesting to see it without music there, but at the same time, the track that is playing when the alarm goes off is the reason I bought the soundtrack, and then the original album it came from, "F♯ A♯ ∞" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. 😁
At uni for sound production we did a module on sound to moving image and my cousin did that scene and had his music super quiet and barely audible until the car alarm went off. It was great.
Funny thing, when we're writing music together for the past ten years every so often I'll joke that he keeps writing the 28 Days Later theme cos he often writes things that have a similar cadence. He just defaults to those chords for some reason.
The theme is from 28 Days Later, it originated from this movie.
It was part of a previous track called 'east hastings' and was also used in Kick Ass when big daddy assaulted the warehouse.
28 days later is actually the movie that made fast zombies popular and inspired many other zombie movies afterwards
The characters in this are living & infected. They're often wrongly referred to as zombies, who are reanimated corpses.
@@DavidZ4-gg3dmthe "infected" here may not be zombies, sure, but they still inspired fast zombie trope
@@DavidZ4-gg3dm So are Resident Evil characters who get infected by a zombie virus. For example the G-Virus. But if you get the vaccine then you will turn back to human. I really hate this pedantic-ness. Zombies aren't real and they are a made up idea of what the creator or author or developer or producer wills it to be. Someone can create a zombie idea based on voodoo magic or by classic undead, or by infection spread type, or by demon possessed ideas. There is a reason 28 series is in the zombie movie category because it fits the archetype. If someone can create a universe where their vampires sparkle in the sunlight then what's stopping someone from saying a zombie in their universe isn't undead but rabified? I just don't get the need for the pedantic logic on a completely fictional idea.
@@DojoMaster-ud7qi Fictional things also have definitions.
@ Like vampires sparkling in the sun? The definition you speak of is the "traditional" idea of a zombie (or other fictional monster). But those can be abandoned, tweaked, modified, or altered because of the very nature of it being a work of the creative imagination. It's not like saying the sky is blue because the sky is non-fiction. Do you see the distinction?
Good catch on the alternate ending - the film was originally intended to end on the freeze frame after the gate crash, but the studio (and/or test audiences) went MENTAL, and demanded the coda😁
There's also an ending where Jim dies while Selena is trying to treat his wounds.Bits of this was used for Jim's dream/time jump.
There was also a storyboard for a possible ending they talked about in the DVD extras, where Frank isn't killed after getting infected, but captured, and the 'solution to infection' is to swap out all the blood in the body. It didn't take them long to realize that having established that a single drop of blood is enough to cause infection within 20 seconds, a total body blood transfusion just would not have any way of working.
Would've been a very different, godawful version of the film
"Oh so the world is collapsing" Oh my sweet summer child, that was just news broadcasts from the late 90s and early 2000s, that is literally what happened in our current world.
In this film only the UK died from the infection.
28 days later is top tier
The theme is called In the House in a Heartbeat. It was in Kickass, when Big Daddy attacked the mafia's warehouse
top 10 greatest movie themes of all time
Yes!
Absolute killer song and one of my favourite pieces of movie music. John Murphy and Danny Boyle have amazing collabs. The song from "Sunshine"; Adagio in D Minor is another masterpiece.
To be fair, it was a different piece with a lot of similarities that -- for reasons I've yet to understand -- everyone on the internet says is the same exact track. The one used in Kickass is called "Big Daddy Kills," and it sounds almost like an inverted version of In the House in a Heartbeat in certain places.
@@JudoGeoff That's because John Murphy, who wrote the music for 28 Days Later (including In the House in a Heartbeat), is also credited as working on Kick-ass (not sure if it's a case of they used the song and credited him or he actually worked on the rest of the movie).
Jim walking through London is one of the best moments from the film
And no CGI!, they just filmed early and closed off a few streets (you could do that in the early 2000's)
@halflucan I did always think they shut down parts of London
@@danielcoyne1024 They do, but to get empty streets without CGI is impossible nowadays
(Edit: I'm going to over-explain this. Closing off streets to film something is common in London, but to film something in London where it's desolate without CGI is impossible now - there will always be traffic - But in the early 2000's this was doable)
walking dead comics used this
@@halflucan That part was filmed just after dawn on a summer Sunday.
That scene of Jim walking through London remind me of my city, during the Covid lockdown. For the first week, there was no one in the streets, only one or two cars passing by and at times, only me alone walking in the middle of the day.
An introvert's paradise
crazy what the tyrants and the useful idiots were able to do
Apparently that scene was eerily similar to what it looked like after the 9/11 attacks that the direct said that he regretted doing that scene. Keep in mind that this movie was filmed before 9/11.
6:47 funnily enough it wasn’t designed to be a biological weapon initially according to the official graphic novel released after the film.
Apparently it was supposed to be a ‘rage inhibitor’ for ‘treating’ violence, criminality and other aggression. It mutated uncontrollably and instead increased aggression as shown in the film.
Always found that quite ironic. Man’s desire to control other men is ultimately what kills mankind off nearly completely.
26:50 "Imagine if (Frank) knew what was about to happen to Hannah..."
Yeah, if the army guys had spoken up when the group first arrived at the checkpoint, they wouldn't have had to shoot Frank and then they'd be dealing with Jim _and_ a very large, angry dad if they wanted the gir-- _ohhh wait..._
"Omg look how little he is!"
Hopefully not talking about the nude shot 😂
Yeah, couldn't tell if she meant his physique or his.....you know what
That's what she said
She likes little 😂😂
💯 about his, ahem.. "lack of" !! Lol
This movie birthed one of the most badass “shit is going down” songs ever.
The Running Dead.
It was years before I realized she was the same actress who plays Tia Dalma in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
And Moneypenny in the last few Bond films.
Frank is Professor Moody in Harry Potter and Menalaus in Troy.
Major West is freakin' 9th Doctor Who and Malekith from the MCU.
And how the MCU wasted him in that movie was criminal.
The original original ending was the gate crash scene, but Fox Search Light demanded a "clearer" ending - they spent most of the budget Fox Search Light gave them on the jet flyby. (Also, the original ending, with the gate crash, was meant to imply Jim died, which is why the filmed alternative endings typically have him dead).
Does anyone else find it amusing that the actor who gets the Rage virus when a drop of infected blood falls into his eye, later plays a character named "Mad-Eye Moody"?
The track is called "In a heartbeat". I think it was originally made for this movie (and it's sequel) but it was also used in Kickass where they watch the video of Big Daddy destroying the warehouse.
No it’s not
26:04 “Wait. There _are_ planes. There… Wait. Was he right?”
I think that’s the main reason this movie was based in Great Britain, instead of, say, Edmonton. Great Britain is an island. So if an infection like this brakes out there, and the rest of the world becomes aware of it in time, the rest of the world can take steps to _contain_ it. The rest of the world can stop sending ships and planes _to_ Great Britain and blockade it so no ships and planes can _leave._ Then the rest of the world can continue, business as usual, until the infection ends.
Much more practical with an _island_ than some place in the middle of a _continent._
As a resident of Edmonton, you probably would t notice a this kind of outbreak. People here are brain dead anyhow and drivers here are worse than the infected.
I am waiting for KGF reaction 🔥
Me to
KGF 1and2🗿🔥
Christopher Eccleston played the ninth doctor in the british science fiction tv series Doctor Who. He was also in a british crime series called "Cracker".
This is truly one of my favorite horror movies. 28 weeks later is also a great sequel. 28 years later comes out this summer
Time for 28 Weeks Later, then 28 Years Later, then I'll assume they'll stop. This film reminds me of The Omega Man with Charlton Heston. Please continue with horror films in general. I have two Sci-Fi suggestions: Scanners (1981) and Stephen King's Firestarter (1984). A few horror film suggestions: Terror Train, Prom Night, The Fog (circa 1980), The Children, Humanoids From The Deep, Hell Night, My Bloody Valentine (1981), Happy Birthday To Me, Graduation Day, and The Funhouse. Nice reaction, Murphy did such a good job. The realism was fantastic.
I remember seeing this film when I was 11 with my cousin. It really set a standard for thrillers for me (It never terrified me).
There’s a really good narrative written by a user on AlternateHistory that gives you an idea of what happened every day leading up to Jim waking up almost a month later. And the reason there’s almost no infected covering the streets is because they were driven out of the cities from fires, following the retreating military to other parts of the country or just simply wandering.
At one point the government did relocate to Scotland until they evacuated to Spain(?). There’s even an instance written where an infected bird flying around was shot down by a child using an air rifle or a slingshot and it struck him similar to how Frank becomes infected and spawns a new front of infection. Terrible timing considering at that moment the military was making some progress in the country… until they started running out of ammo.
And yes SGT. Farrell was right. Solid read for anyone that’s interested it’s called Death of a Nation
I've been reading through this story and it's fantastic
You know, technically, the infected in here aren't actual "Zombies" because they aren't dead (or undead), they're still living, just completely lost to the infection. Ironic, giving this is one of the most influential "Zombie movies" ever.
Did you notice the red in the yellow sign at the end
The red was the red dress 😎👍
The hair looks fantastic! ❤ I love zombie movies and this one was so different from the standard flick that it still holds up.
the Rage Virus was like rabies but it makes people more hostile and they puke blood on other people infecting them
Danny Boyle was the director and he did Trainspotting and Sunshine. Definitely worth checking both of them out too
25:39 yea, in 2025 it shouldn't come as a surprise to see people "go crazy" after a month. I watched people go crazy almost instantly about 5 years ago, they VERY quickly turned on each other and they didn't even need to see zombies to do it. If anything this movie is unrealistic in how long it took them
People forget Major West is a Major. Supposed to be in command of a company of around 100-250 men but left with what half a dozen by the time of the film.
So these soldiers have seen pretty much their entire unit been killed on top of the failed blockade of Manchester and the entire city burning uncontrollably with no fire crews left to put it out.
People say it’s unrealistic but I think it’s incredibly realistic. Such incredibly profound psychological trauma would lead to a level of sociopathy that could quite easily become violent especially when mixed with a small group of young men whose sole profession is been violent killers.
Not a fan of zombie movies myself, but I'd recommend giving "Black Sheep" (2006) a go. It's a slightly different take on the genre.
Girl your hair looks amazing !! btw great reaction !
I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed.
Comic accurate mj style
If zombie apocalypse fiction has taught us anything, is that the humans are worse than the zombies. (Technically 28 Days Later's infected are not zombies in the sense that they aren't reanimated corpses, but the same principles do apply.)
This movie singlehandedly made me, my cousin, and our friend afraid to go camping right after we watched it 💯 They filmed the movie with handheld cameras, much like the ones you would use at home, to gain a more natural aesthetic and keep everything more realistic. The scary part about the story is that these are not zombies, and the dead aren't reanimated; they are humans, infected with a virus that causes blinding rage and that, to me, is more terrifying than shambling corpses any day. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the movie @VKunia and can't wait to see your upload of 28 Weeks Later. Also, I was not aware they were planning a third part to this 🤔 very intriguing.
Spoiler
the real ending is Jim is alive
2 ending is Jim dies thats the alternative ending
3 is Save Hannah's Dad tie him up and take him to the Lab where the monkeys where crazy and Jim sacrifice him to be tied up where the monkey was watching the TV of the Chaos outbreak was happening and gives his blood to the last remaining Doctor Who survived to give Hannah's Dad which some how Jim was the cure of this ....Sorry if that was a spoiler .
i love 28 days later its my favorite movie since i was ....yes....10 in 2010 SHHH dont tell my momma XD but anyway your the 20th person that i watched watching 28 days later lol !!! HYPED FOR 28 YEARS LATER cant wait to see you watch 28 weeks later next Great movies !!
The song, In the House in a Heartbeat, was also used in Kick-Ass
From Fox Searchlight Pictures (later as Searchlight Pictures under Disney) 20th Century Fox (later as 20th Century Studios under Disney) to Columbia Pictures (Sony Pictures)
22:08 Off, as in rotten.
After 28 Days/Weeks definitely recommend Dawn of the Dead remake (2004)
I always thought it was unrealistic to make Hello at the end' when sowing Help is a letter less.😂
I mean hanah was right to not open the door for them until she heard her father , i aint opening for no strangers
Exactly, I doubt anyone is opening the door for strangers during a societal meltdown.
Another great Danny Boyle film with Cillian Murphy starring is Sunshine (2007). That one not as many people have seen, but it is a beautiful movie with a lot of now big name actors who were yet to find the spotlight.
I love that movie!
Oh yeah, that movie where the crew send the only crewmember who can complete their mission to save all life on Earth out on a very dangerous spacewalk.
Mr Sunday movies has entered the comments. Danny Boyle is my favourite filmmaker and “Sunshine” is a top tier crisis in space film. The song “Adagio in D Minor” from the film is an absolute classic.
The infected pretending to be dead in the church scared me as a kid!! i was 10 when i first watched this! literally the same year it came out I watched it because my mom picked it out from the video store!! and the movies me and my little brother picked out we already watched!! we then asked our mom if we can watch it she warned us it was scary my brother was 6.. both him and I just absolutely loved the damn movie
The eggs being "off" means that they're spoiled.
This is one of my favorite films that is categorized within the zombie genre. My absolute favorite though, is George Romero's Day Of The Dead. One of my favorite vampire films is 30 Days Of Night. I don't know if you like to read, but I wrote several short stories about survivors struggling to make it during a zombie apocalypse. My collection is called Pockets Of Humanity and is available on paperback on amazon. Oh, and I could be wrong, but I think the actress who played Celina also played Calypso in the Pirates Of The Caribbean films. And I think Gleason was in Harry Potter as Mad Eye Moody.
When I was a kid, I saw this trailer in theaters and it freaked me out for years because they never showed the zombies so I didn’t know what had happened to the people or what creatures were out there and the possibilities just messed with my imagination
It's been forever but Roanoke Gaming does videos on viruses/diseases and biology of movies and goes into explaining what's happening. If I remember his explanation they were messing with the ebola virus (maybe more or mutation strain) and while the motives were never said, it could have been trying to find a cure for it or as you mentioned, biological weapons testing. This is a great movie though and I think my earliest introduction to Cillian Murphy.
10:05 - given what we now know about the virus I think it's safe to say that Mark was NOT infected. The virus would have been turning him in seconds
V: "Just Jim, Mark, and Selena."
Me: "Yup, just Jim, ..., and Selena."
Me and my best friend grew up playing the theme song of this movie on our guitars. 🔥 unforgettable tune
I'm so excited that V's getting into the series. I kno she's gonna Love it!
So pumped up for the Newest movie, looks Wicked 🎬🤘🏽😈
6:40 technically, something like this DID happen... Just with less extreme results...
Yup, all theories about grown lab Covid-19 were right after all.
28 days later really defined how you make "realistic" Zombie movies, or pandemic movies in general. Danny Boyle really nailed it with that. If you haven't seen them, I would really recommend watching World War Z with Brad Pitt and I am Legend with Will Smith. Those are a bit more action-packed. Otherwise Contagion is great for what is Global Pandemic (like if we haven't seen that one happening in real life lol)
Didn't expect she'd start the reaction (3:55) looking at a fully naked Cillian Murphy and say "OMG, look how little he is."
;)
Civilisation is only skin deep, a veneer. Man is an animal with instincts to survive. That is what is shown in these "survivor" type films.
On the other side of the coin there is beauty. Vikki, you are on that side. I can love anyone who sees Brendan Gleeson and doesn't immediately say "Mad-Eye Moody", but you quoted one of my favourite films - In Bruges. Love you, girl.
Really cool movie. Although I'm not especially into zombie movies, I do love the post-apocalyptic survival vibes.
Now all that's left to watch is
28 Weeks later and 28 Years later 😂😂😂
Something that a lot of people never mention in this movie is the symbolism behind it
"They're so immature"
Yeah, thats a pretty accurate representation of most soldiers 😬
29:10 The 28 days later theme was used in the movie Kickass too but a bit different i think. In the scene where they watch the footage of Big Daddy whiping those mafia guys out.
awesome reaction, I'm just really here for that hair!!
28 Years Later actually does look like it's going to be pretty good.
Danny Boyle is one of the most talented filmmakers working today. His 2nd film "Trainspotting" is considered essential viewing for a reason, and remains timeless.
Good film. You're gonna love the 2nd in this series. I can't wait for the 3rd.
Eggs can go bad, and I didn't know this was news for anyone :)
I think she confused them having gone bad with the cook not being able to cook them properly.
@@xakariz Well, that would be news to me.... How do you make an egg go bad by cooking?
The intro isn’t anything to do with the infection. It’s just real riots
The bangs be bangin! 💅all twirled up like sphagetti. anyway, dad getting blood in his eye was some "ugh siiiiigh" tings
Romero's zombies were a critique on America's consumerism. This was the first movie that made zombies run which is a critique on the "instant everything" speed that everyone's lives live at.
Another great Danny Boyle movie with Cillian Murphy: Sunshine (2007)
Please broo kgf😢
“I like Frank.” Oh boy…
The theme is original from this movie it's called In the house In a heartbeat and it was reused by kickass
"The world is collapsing"= into a zombie apocalypse, while watching contemporary news reports.
I don't think whackin a priest with a bag of soda is in the bible, but I believe it is indeed a sin. At the very least it's frowned upon.
Literally the 4th reactor to drop this today.
They probably all spot good views on each others videos and crank out their own reaction to get the views from the subs base.
Your hair looks good af.
If you like 28 days later, you should definitely watch train to Busan if you haven’t seen it already
If you like Cillian Murphy "The wind that shakes the barley" is a very good movie about the Irish independance/civil war
This was the last movie I bought on VHS!
Cillian Murphy movie suggestion - "Red Eye". Also starring Rachel McAdams.
omfg love the bangs Vkun! and the trauma! 10/10
3:53 That's what she said. Subscribed.
29:04 yes it is.
Hell yes, i loved this and can't wait to see you react to 28 weeks later
3:54 you could have used better phrasing for that particular scene 😅
The infected are not idiots, they have the rabies virus and it makes them extremely angry with adrenaline
Your hair looks great! ❤
In case, no one has said that your hair looks great I would like to be the first. In case some one has, your are absolutely gorgeous
No, this is the 28 days later theme! Everything else is an inspiration or copy. This is the greatest zombie movie. No alternate ending. Just watch.
In the apocalypse there is no such thing as consent, no law, no rules, only dead heroes and chaos.
'Green room' and 'Blue Ruin'
I love this movie and I can’t wait for the new one this year 🎉
28 weeks is even better !!! but this is a straight up classis !
I know tastes are subjective but there's no way 28 weeks later is better then 28 days. You're in the minority I guess :D The opening is sick tho.
@@codexnecro it was disappointing due to the opening scene being so good lol, can remember first watching it when it came out thinking man this is gonna be good after that, then it kinda fizzled out, not a bad movie though, Robert carlyle was very good i thought
Yeeeees, this is one of my favourites.
I'd love more horror movie reactions
If there's actually a zombie outbreak, the last thing on my mind would be punanny
Fast zombies are much worst than slow zombies. If there’s 1️⃣ chasing you then it will be a 💯 zombies chasing after you.
Definitely a great movie choice the second one will shock you I guarantee it you should check out the insanely under rated movie Legion excellent horror movie and I'd also suggest the Resident Evil series with Millar Jovovich a really fun series I've been subbed to your channel since you reacted to Akira I'm glad to say the quality of you reactions has never left me disappointed keep it up. 👌
Great Video, and if you havent seen the original Night of the living dead that would be a great watch and the 90s Remake was great as well almost 1:1 but with differences and awesome in their own way, Dawn of the dead the original was awesome as well.
25:06 Not really after only 30 days, the movie started 28 days later, who know how many more they spent reaching the outpost. I am betting at least another 2 weeks. For eggs to go rotten takes a while. So there you have your time frame.
