- This is a recipe for 7 Minute Frosting that goes all the way back to the 1930's. My mother learned how to make this during The Great Depression and she continued to make this throughout her life, especially for holidays cakes. It was a favorite in our family and still is because it is easy to make and it is a nice and light frosting. It is the perfect frosting for coconut cake.

Thanks for another nice memory; Grandpa! Like many others here, this was my gran's go-to icing for cakes, and of course,my sisters and I loved to help her clean up by licking the beaters. Such a good basic recipe, and you can make infinite variations.
Glad you enjoyed it❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Looks like a winner! 🥇
Thank you❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Yummy!! ❤
Thank you 😋❤️Grandpa👨🍳
I am so glad I found this! This is my absolute favorite frosting; I love to have it on chocolate cake. I remember one grandmother making it for her Christmas Cakes, and the other making it for her Easter Bunny cakes.
Hope you enjoy❤️Grandpa👨🍳
I had forgotten about this frosting. Thanks!
Your welcome❤️Grandpa👨🍳
My mom made this frosting all the time, too. Thx.
It’s one of the best frostings.❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Looks nice
Thank you❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Nice job Gramps. Iooks like an easy recipe that I'll add to my cookbook for feature use. Now all you needed was a strawberry shortcake to put all that great liking frosting on that you made, yummy. The best to you and Grandma, God Bless.
Thank you it’s a great frosting because it is not very sweet. Enjoy! Take Care❤️Grandpa👨🍳& Grandma👩🏻
Beautiful, simple frosting! Thanks for posting this video!!
My pleasure 😊❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Thank you Grandpa for the recipe! My mom would make this for my brother's Birthday Cakes. It was his favorite. I lost the recipe and now I will make it as a memory of my brother who just passed this year. Thanks again.
Sorry for the loss of your brother. What a nice memory of your brother to make his favorite frosting.❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Good job grandpA
Thank you❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Looks fantastic Grandpa! Nice, easy recipe. Thanks for sharing.❤❤❤
Hope you enjoy❤️Grandpa👨🍳
I've always wanted to try this, thank you so much! My Mom used to say you couldn't make this on a rainy day. She must have had it go south once!
You are so welcome! It’s so good!❤️Grandpa👨🍳
i remember this icing and using it on a coconut cake. The coconut came in a plastic bag. Somehow I think my mother used a double boiler in the process. Hope you made the cake for Gramps and yourself !
We did make the cake for us. Coconut still comes in a plastic bag. Thank you so much for watching. Have a nice day❤️Grandma👩🏻& Grandpa👨🍳
mmm yummy!
It is a great frosting.❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Wow Grandpa, thank you so much for this recipe! As I was growing up, my grandmother always made a "banana cake" for my birthday - it was a white layer cake with fresh bananas between the layers and it was topped with the most incredible "7 Minute Icing." I always heard that this type of frosting is difficult to make so I never tried recreating that cake 🥺 - but you make it look SO easy! 😁 I am 100% going to make that cake tomorrow! Thanks so much for the recipe and for bringing back cherished memories Grandpa! ❤
Your so welcome! Enjoy your banana cake❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Thanks.
You're welcome❤️Grandma👩🏻
Great stuff
Thank you❤️Grandpa👨🍳
Is this like the Dream Whip frosting in taste and texture?
We have never had Dream Whip so i can’t tell you about the taste and texture.❤️Grandpa👨🍳
They are very similar, yes! My grandmother always made this frosting homemade, but my mother would "cheat" and use Dream Whip. Looking back, I always preferred the homemade as it had a more candy-like, "decadent" mouth feel - but Dream Whip can be tasty too! 😉
@@GrandmaFeral Since 1957. As much as you may think something is well known - everything is regional I guess. It was more common at one point, now it is kind of expensive and hard to find. I don't make cake often, but if I try your recipe I well let you know my thoughts. Thanks.
@@i_am_blur Interesting! I prefer Dream Whip over anything sold at the grocery in those plastic tubs. But then, I like simple taste most often...
How is Dream Whip made into frosting? Never heard of that one
Thanks so much for sharing this with us, any difference in using "real" vanilla extract as oppose to "imitation" vanilla extract?
Your welcome! We only use real vanilla extract never imitation. We go to Costco and buy a large bottle of real vanilla and it last for months.❤️Grandma👩🏻
Marshmallow Creme works about the same way.
It would work but I haven’t had Marshmallow Crème in 40 years.❤️Grandma👩🏻
