Bob! You have done your son proud. His memory lives on in the kindness you show others and the many lives you have changed. I wish you a long life. The world needs you more than you realize. You are a good man Charlie Brown.

Your natural care and love shone through your torment and heartache with understanding and kindness.
You were able to create these beautiful things which enhance the lives, experiences and confidence of countless people, Cheap RV Living and the Homes On Wheels Alliance.
In doing so, you have given people hope where none may have existed and have enabled them to overcome something which they were previously unable to see their way through!
Your kindness, support and guidance means more to people than you could ever imagine.
    Thank You.

I have not been suicidal, per se, but I was the "living dead" while being severely depressed, losing several years to it and what you said about your dog resonates with me. If it wasn't for my dogs and cats, I would've lived much more poorly, as it was them that got me up and moving day-by-day through the worst of it all. Thank you for sharing your story and yourself to us. It means more than words could ever explain. 💗

I lost my son in 2011 as well. I have never spoke of it. The depression cycle you describe is exactly what i felt and feel today. The periods of depression get fewer and farther between. It's always there just under the surface but you learn to live with it. Thanks for the talk i thought i was the only one.

I'm currently caring for a physically disabled wife and mother. My wife was also diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder in 2014 so she has changed into a completely different person who feels differently about me now. I am a prisoner to both her and my mother's needs. I have no life of my own and no happiness, only depression. I find escape in watching van life, truck camper life, and RV life in general videos on UA-cam. I am a writer with currently 8 self published books. I have more stories to write but my depression is crippling me and preventing me from doing so. One day I hope to live the nomad life. One day I hope to be free. Thank You Bob for your story.

Bob I am sure you will never see this comment because there are so many but discovering your videos changed my life in such a massive way. I went from pure misery to just basically giving up, letting go and seeing where life led me , it led me to trusting myself to WORK for myself , that turned into a legitimate business where I make enough money to live but also have time for myself, i do not work myself to death 6 days a week anymore like I did when employed by others, I work 3 or 4 days a week most of the time and I'm doing pretty well! not rich by any stretch but having more time for myself and to be in nature was what I needed, that is just such a huge thing for me to have realized. I would not think less of you if you decided to end your own life when the time came for whatever reason, honestly that is my personal choice of death, I would like to control that if possible, its not a sad thing but it does hurt the people who love you if they dont understand. but I hope that somehow the knowledge that your existence shores up so many others and gives us direction and hope is something to chew on in your low moments and live for even if you don't feel all that excited about life yourself. some people were born to serve the world, I'm not sure if that is what you really wanted but I think that was what you were born for, to save others, give others hope and teach them a way to live that they can manage even when they have lost EVERYTHING. You are really a great man who will be remembered long after your time and that is something to be proud of.

Bob is a good and concise speaker. Has he thought about doing a Ted Talk? (I don't know if Ted Talks pay anything, but that's neither here nor there.) Depression has been in my life in myself and loved ones, and in another video Bob said do everything you can to think about others and not yourself. Depression tricks you into navel gazing and so yes; working on anything (anything!) outside oneself is the answer.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Mr Wells most people don't want to or know how to talk about the people left behind after a loved one commits suicide but you did a fantastic job. My mom commited suicide and I go through severe depression. I feel your message was sent for me to hear because believe it or not I started watching your videos during one of my depressed moments and I have been following you every since. I probably will never be able to afford to buy a van but when I watch your videos I feel like I have been on vacation and it gives me a sense of peace. even if your own life is a mess ,if you are able to help someone else in some way to manage there life or be happier you have done something profound. My step dad was bi polar/manic depressive, I grew up seeing(experiencing) his struggle , despite the fact that he was sometimes very hard to be around his overall influence was still good, I love him very much, he taught be many things and some of the best parts of my personality came from him. he is in his late 60's now and somehow has very much leveled off , he is pretty content in life and doesnt have such huge swings anymore. he is a really good man that I love dearly and I love the aspects of myself and interests I gained from him.

Working so much handing out money to others to get rich, that we forget to make a LIFE or don't have time to do anything but work and sleep. That's existing not living being mobile means you can work part time and have a quality of life because your pay isn't going to make everyone else rich.

Oh, Bob, I'm so very, very sorry about your son! I cannot even begin to imagine going through that.
I'm shocked how many people I now know whose children have committed suicide, including a close cousin, and a close friend of my brother's. It seems to be an epidemic in the children of our generation - a truly terrible one.
I'm so glad you've found a new reason to live, though. Helping others *is* the way through depression, to that I can also personally attest.
Thank you for sharing your journey. I'm very grateful you are still here, sharing your knowledge, which is likely to help *me* survive in the likely not very distant future. I do hope we can eventually meet, but even if we never do, I respect and admire you and what you have built and continue to do to help others. May you continue to find purpose and meaning in your life.

I describe it just they way you did, not mopey and sad but definitely not happy. Ive talk to my doctors of course and have never let it take full control but really just having someone like you be so open about how they feel and have felt, is such a boost knowing Im not alone in the way I have felt. Im not on the road yet but I bought a van in October for a hell of a good deal I think just repairing the body work on it so I can finish the rest of the build on the inside and hit the road this summer. Bob, thank you for sharing your story. Mental health should be something we should talk about as freely as physical health. Your life has touched so many, and I know sharing your story will also touch many who are silently suffering.

Christa you missed it. The "purpose" is what saved him. He requested it...yes I get that. Feeling connected to a purpose was the answer to his quest.

Very touching, dear Bob. I honor your healing process because it brought you to the man that you now are, compassionate, infinitely kind, honorable, deep thinker, respectful, generous, unpretentious. In working for others, you've been healed yourself. Loved when you said that being out in nature brought you so much joy. I totally agree. Nothing can compete with the beauty, majesty and awesomeness of God's creation reflected in nature and in our smiling faces, all warmly smiling back, loving you.

Mental health is such a big part of travel that people don't talk about. It takes work, and if you're not an introvert like me who gets 100% satisfaction from the relationship I have with my daughter, then it might get lonely. That can wear people down.

Your story is so real and unfair. Sometimes life is unfair to us and we need to find a new purpose. I feel for your loss and your feelings. I too have been fighting depression for some years. I don't take medication but I try to create a parallel world in my mind which is sweet. Thank you Bob. Your story brought tears to my eyes. Often men don't tell our stories. At least one krn must tell their feelings.

When you spoke to GOD from your heart he answered as he always does to show you he is able and no matter how hard it may seem he will always be there for you. You are an inspiration to many and through your good deeds and guidance of others within this community you are laying many treasures up in Heaven where it matters most. That's why GOD protected you through it all and sent you your friend as a earthly guardian angel at your time of need. GOD bless

You found your purpose in life. That in it of itself is quite amazing. You are a tremendous blessing to so many. More than you could possibly know. Much love from Texas. The higher power you keep referring to is God. I happen to know Him personally as He is my Lord and savior and He loves you more than life itself. Blessings my friend 💗

Wow! That was powerful! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’ve often said that everyone has a story and the greatest gift we can give to each other is to listen with open hearts. That is how you form community and how we overcome any problems big or small in our lives and in society as a whole. That is the power of what you are doing.
