- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- As a full-time, working RV Digital Nomad I had to make some modifications to my 16' Airstream Bambi trailer to have a dedicated work space, chill space, unlimited data wifi internet and boondocking solar power!
Today, I'll tell you about the FOUR RV RENOVATIONS I made to create a perfect remote work space in my RV!

Do you have a link for your flag pole assembly? I think it would work great for our weather station.
the bed thing should be addressed by the rv industry. They charge thousands and thousands for these rvs and you can't even sleep in the bed?? that is nuts.
I totally agree! I think they are concerned with keeping the weight down. That's why they use so many staples instead of screws. I had to consider the weight of a better mattress, because my Bambi only carries 350 measly pounds! BUT, for me adding 40 pounds for a better bed was absolutely worth it.
Yep the weight. Really like the setup!
Love my sleep number RV bed!
Great video. I’m trying to convince my husband it is “doable”. I want that freedom to travel and not be tied to our current jobs. My biggest obstacle is he is a workaholic! But, he loves travel and camping.
Thanks for sharing these tips you have learned along the way. I’m taking notes! 😊
@@CreativityRVWait. Is that 350 lbs AFTER your body weight, or before your body weight is added?
Always enjoy your videos...
Love watching your channel. Working on my set up now 🤓 Are you able to run your air while boondocking and if so..how?
Love it 😍
Do you still have your shell for outside chillin'?
Where are you now?
Is the mattress really that good or are you now a sales person getting affiliate money? Many UA-cam channels (even Bob Wells) have learned that your opinion means nothing unless you are open and honest about the financial arrangements.
Honestly, any Youtubber that mentions a products with a discount code and doesn't mention their arrangement (or lack of one) I tend to not trust. Oh, and this is from a long time subscriber and someone who has bought all of your books!
My Mom always said, spend money for a good mattress, good shoes and good produce!
You mean mom said don't steal shit?
I’m glad your little peanut is working so well for you 😊
I've followed you for years and decided to purchase your book in 2020. I had never thought of transcription until you mentioned it in the book. I took some online classes and started working for some companies part-time. Last August, I was able to leave my job as a library director and become a full-time legal transcriptionist. Thanks, Robin!
Thanks for your comment!! Gonna buy her book right now!
I watched your other vid when you installed the bed. I did days of research for a new bed locally and on line. I bought the Bloom from Brooklyn Beds! I'm not kidding. My first night on my new bed was the first time I could lay down and sleep all night without stabbing pain in my back and hip. Thank you for talking about Brooklyn beds on your show! A life saver!
I belong to a woman’s van group and one of the most common questions is about making money remotely, I always refer them to your channel. You have the best information out there (thank you for the video on the OGO toilet, first thing I did when I got the RV I have now.
Great tips for nomads. Also looks like Big Boy is happy with the new bed set up. ❤️🐈🌹
Always enjoy your tips and adventures. And your hair is FABulous!! Happy trails!
I didn't know the Airstream was your new permanent home - Did I miss a video? Did you sell your fifth wheel and truck?
Loving your hair style and colours!❤️
🦌💌❤️🚙
Your hair coloring and style are the best that Ive ever seen on you. Wow! Beautiful. I shoukd take pics for my colorist etc. Very well done, Robin!
I Love Brooklyn Bedding! We had to get a funky size for our rv, too. Thank god for Brooklyn bedding. We were in quartzsite, so we ran into Phenix, tried out the mattresses, at the showroom. We ended up purchasing one. We bought it during the Presidents’ Day sale. We purchased it on Monday, and we had it by Thursday.
We love your videos. Thank you for your time.
You showed everything all setup but I was hoping you'd talk about how you stow your computer, keyboard, etc. when you hit the road. Have you tried permanently mounting the computer in any of your rigs?
👍 I too took out my dinette , same as yours with only 4 screw's holding it in place. Made a big different s in my 23 ft, airstream.
I have the same Bambi and I'm watching you! 😮 I'll be tuning in next week - THANK YOU!
Hi Robin - Your hair looks great!
How much did the whole power system cost including installation?
By the way, I think you have the best intro music, it’s absolutely adorable. I could use that tone as a pick me up tone, it always cheers me up. ❤
My crystal ball says nomadic lifestyle as the way of the future. Satellites, solar cells, cell phones, power stations, batteries, induction/DC appliances, etc., make 'untethered' more viable!
Excellent information.
I personally think your power system is just right.
I thought I’d be cooking on an induction burner in my van so I upsized to 400ah of Battleborn Batteries and the 3000 watt inverter which wasn’t that much more expensive. But it all tables up space and weighs more.
I’ve continued to use my trusty Coleman stove and haven’t put a dent in my capacity between driving charge cycles.
And my 400ah is marginal for 12v Air Conditioners which I may add for my dogs comfort.
I wish Starlink would quit changing up the plans and pricing. And it would be sensible to have a 12v system NOT 120ac.
Thanks for the video.
You're one smart chickie!!! Thanks for so generously sharing your info.
Where is Boys kitty litter and does he live on dry cat food? Couldn't travel without my kitty.
How do you handle security for when you want to go run some errands? Do you have to break camp, pack everything up, put it all away, and take your rig with you on a grocery run or whatever other errands? If no, could you talk about how you manage that aspect of boondocking? I think most people would fear someone coming along and stealing their rig and anything else too, if there's no one else there to help guard the rig and accoutrements.
That would be my fear also .. well one fear lol
I was going to ask the same question!!!😮
I have asked 4 wheeler dealerships how they like that wheel lock system, specifically for this reason. They're OK unless someone comes along with a metal grinder/cutter.
Curious, too
Do you by chance have the link for the flagpole mount? Im wracking my brain about where to mount ours but your is a smarter idea!.
LOVE your hair!!! (Unrelated to video, but it must be said!) :)
@CreativityRV - Robin - Can't wait for your next vid about the StarLink. I just bought mine and I need ideas on how to get rid of the stupid base. Thanks...I can't wait.
Along with driver seat comfort, AC, bath and power capacity, I just added “bed comfort” to my highest priority categories in my search for my full time Class B. Have been looking at two twins that can convert to a large bed but it sounds like a fixed bed is the way to go. My main concern was to have sleeping space for occasional guests but they can sleep on the floor or in a tent!
Have you updated your book with the internet and solar information. Making it a one book stop for rv’s.
Wow haven't been on this channel in a while. An Airstream! Have you finally found the "one"?
Starlink is very expensive to install and I think it's about $150 a month to use.
Thank you! Living the life 💚. I just hit 50 and would love to live this way. I attempted to find remote work but was scammed online twice. I enjoy working and having that outlet, just not in the company of others anymore. I want to live drama-free in solitude and peace. Love your posts 💚💚💚
Same here 👍
Get Robin’s book! Her nomadic work suggestions are vetted by her.
I’ve been waiting for the story about the desk chair. A comfortable place to work has been a challenge for me when looking for small rigs. Dinettes aren’t the most comfortable.
You are so pretty and smart. I love your journey. My dream is how you live. Hope to meet you on the road.
Robin, instead of having to put the clamp on your tongue every time how about getting someone to weld a pipe on there with a drainhole in the bottom so you just drop the post in when you set up?
Where did you get the stand for your monitor? I just love it.
The monitor is actually part of a Surface Studio computer. I love it too! I was excited to have a space to bring it with me in the Airstream.
Too funny bc you were so against starlink not that long ago but now you love it. Glad you tried it! I’ve had mine since last October and do love the speed but it is picky because it won’t work with trees (or if it does it’s not consistent). Not crazy about the cost either. Hopefully they don’t raise it again!
Great video Robin. Thank you ! Happy trails to you.
You didn’t mention air conditioning or heat.
Funny Robin, I gave you one month in that tiny RV after you bought it. You are definitely proving me wrong! You are one amazing woman, I envy you. Safe travels! Love seeing The Boy happy too!
Hi Robin, love your channel. I’m thinking about ordering your book but was first wondering if the remote jobs you cite are for Canadians as well? Thank you
Hi
Good afternoon
I can find your page in Spanish?
It feels like Peanut is the perfect rig for you, Goldilocks. The 5th wheel was too big and cumbersome. The Class B+ , C and truck camper were too small. Your tiny airstream setup seems just right.
You are full of great info! Love how you're wearing your hair, these days. Stay safe. 🕊
Very helpful. Getting the courage up to pull the trigger on vanlife😊
Robyn, wasnt there a time that you were unhappy with Starlink??
I don't love Starlink, but it works and I need it. I would prefer NOT carrying and mounting that dish, but after the Nomad Internet service pooped the bed I had to figure out a way to make it more workable. If I'm in an area without AT&T service, I have to have Starlink. If there are trees or bad weather, I need AT&T or Verizon. I'm hoping to stow the Starlink and suspend service when I head to the East Coast later this summer if I find the AT&T service is broad out there. Getting my unlimited AT&T service and router was a HUGE HASSLE. It's not something I would recommend for the average joe, but I'll explain how I got it next Sunday. Thanks for the great question, Natalie!
Nomad internet service pooped the bed?
@@dianepines9014 So much so that Nomadic Fanatic had to admit it. (Claiming he only heard about it that day and not the month before when I told him in a community post after Robin's video, but whatev.)
@@CreativityRVnot sure about AT&T, but I work for Verizon and their most dense footprint is the east coast, they started as Bell Atlantic (landline) before they bought up the wireless companies that became the backbone of the network.
Would love to know ABOUT how much $ for oversll electronic modifications. Without internet company costs. Batteries, dc to dc etc.
Hi I'm interested in a video specific about your battery upgrade, inverter and solar.
So glad you are a supporter of Starlink now ❤
Where do you sit down and eat?
We agree 💯 about the Brooklyn Bedding mattress. We sleep so much better with ours. Great info on Starlink. We are considering it, but our AT&T phones and T-Mobile internet are doing the job.
Happy Sunday to you, too. And yeah baby look at that view. 😊
Truck drivers 2nd good bed!
If you convert Starlink to 12v DC, it takes up a LOT less power, and you don't need to run your inverter for it, saving even more juice.
Kevin, how do you convert it to 12 v DC? Thanks
@@beccadanielsen3567 My replies keep getting deleted
Thanks for the info, and what a nice desk! I should make a designated workspace like that as I’m working remotely too. So far my “must have” item has been my HomeFi router, it’s been a lifesaver.
Thanks for your awesome tips!! I'm taking notes fast and furiously! :D Have a blessed Sunday!
Thank you! You too!
Marine weather tight thru hull mounts work great for running cables from outside to inside. Fairly inexpensive and use 5200 marine grade sealant or life calk sealant (Used on boats below water line, will work great above waterline 100% watertight)
Yeah Starlink. I remember when it first came out & you gave a pseudo review trashing it without ever actually trying it. Funny. Hope you took down that video.
Who is designing RVs in the US? Did say ever finish the first class on the design school? In Europe you can find so nice modern light RVs. Never saw something like that in the US.
2000watts sidewave Inverter
Power system installed
Battle born and dragon-flight energy
Is that it
Would love to see a video on working on the road as a digital AI creator. I used to be an artist and designer but would like to focus more on design and not the manual labor part of it!!! LOL! 😊 In other words I want passive income. I'm getting old 🤣🤣🤣
Plus, no room in an RV for all my art supplies.
Would love to hear your thoughts on chatgpt, midjourney, ai alternatives, print on demand, etc.
People! I have owned 3 brand new Rvs. Just get yourself a 4" foam mattress and a 2" latex on top of foam, and you are good to go. You don't need to spend a lot of money on these mattress. Foam does the trick and cut them to your shape with an electric knife. Save your money for gas!!!!!
We bought a $150 mattress for the rv....we were in a big hurry...it was an upgrade from the $100 dollar version.....there was a $200 version...each upgrade added thickness......IWe were shocked that these cheap mattresses were even offered or still existed! Who would buy this crap? Well...we would....we thought we were going to be so miserable. We've been through some miserable and expensive mattresses looking for that painless sleep. We made payments on them! We slept on this cheap mattress and it was hard.....omg......we were in for some miserable nights sleeping. We were stunned when it turned out to be the most sleeping night we'd had in forever. We fell asleep....didn't wake till morning...and it would appear that we hadn't moved ... woke up in the position I fell asleep in. I'm still blown away...best sleep we've had.
Why are you paying for Starlink and At&T? Folks are such money wasters. I've been on the road for 4 years and have only had the cheapest unlimited prepaid Verizon plan and it's been more than enough for me to work fulltime in IT while on the road. I use two apps to find a signal and I've been able to camp in extremely remote places and still work.
Love your video content... your very inspirational... I'm going to sell my condo & buy a B+ RV to live full time on the road
People who go out and forge a pathway for others like you do, is so valuable. Thank you ❤
I hve exactly the same internet set up. Starlink, unlimited ATT hotspot and unlimited Verizon on my phone.
I love it. Thank you for sharing a positive viewpoint of that lifestyle. This is extremely helpful to me. Thank you.
Such an inspiration you are!!
Small spaces are easier to handle solo, now to find another soloist to play the World with! Keep on keepin on!🌎🌝🌺🌲🐾🐿️🌵🌼🍁
You are very organized and an inspiration for the rest of us to not except the "defaults" in life and with an RV, modify everything you need to so that you have a home instead of just an RV...is that your next book? From RV to home on the road, nomadisize your life the way you want it! Great tips for the Starlink especially the pole mount, brilliant!! I ended up drilling a hole in the front bottom area, pulling the wire through and then sealing the hole. The only problem is that the Starlink wire went bad (I actually thought it was the dish because it fell off in the wind and busted the stand) and then I had to do it over but with some good foam sealer it was fine. My dish still works fine it just takes a little longer to calibrate. Love the desk chair because just like the bed the seats are soooooooooo bad...come on RV makers you guys gotta catch up!! 🙂
your vids are so great!🦌💌❤️📚🚙
Id love to have a dedicated work space. Alas my van is small! I can mentally compartmentalize pretty good i guess😂
Oh Robin who can I trust to ask about the chinook class b compared to Thor class B that has a dry bath. I have two children with cerebral palsy. I’m paying a pretty penny for the accessible van that ramp and auto doors work inconsistently.
Are there such things as fitted sheets for all these oddball rv matress sizes? $150 a shot? Or all customized? Or is there an RV sheet supplier?
AGREE on the mattress thing...I had a piece of foam over the dinette seats in my Rialta, and it was NOT comfortable...Bearable, but not comfortable. I put an Ikea double mattress in, and presto!!!
A total game changer. Thanks for another great vid, Robin!
If you don’t mind me asking??
Why did you get rid of your Ford class C, or was it a B motor home??
I bought a used RV this past January. The people I bought it from had replaced a mattress with a regular bed mattress. It’s a little big for the space but it will do for now.
We're in the process of installing a dcdc charger, 200ah lithium battery and inverter. Solar panels will be the next project. I'm so excited to stop fretting over having enough power for my fridge. We're not as small as you but still had to get pretty creative to make it all fit. You don't hear many you tubers talking about the dcdc chargers but they are a game changer for these smart alternators. By the way, I love your hair in this video😊
The view from the office is why I’m thinking about one of the small airstreams.
I've heard of people replacing their RV mattress with a trucker's Sleep Dawg mattress, with a mattress topper on top of that.
You couldn’t literally circle your wagons unless actually had a “wagon”
I am trying to purchase your book but on amazon it say do not support kindle… is it kindle only?
Great Post for my future considerations of being a therapist on the road and being a nomad. Thanks so much.
How many watts do you have in your portable panels? How do you connect them to your solar port with MC4 connectors?
The pictures of Big Boy are just great! Darn near made me cry to see him so comfy, snoozing in the sun. 🤗💖 And I had to giggle when he photobombed this video! 😂🐾🐾
Just removed a large original equipment L-shaped sofa and installed two theater seats. I was tired of having to close up and deconstruct the sofa when I wanted to move. Can’t believe how much space I gained and also lost some weight too! Renovations are not that difficult just have to think them through all situations, moving, slides, etc. Also added battle born batteries this past year, working on the solar so I can stay untethered longer. Happy travels
I need to meet your solar people!!😊
Thank you for this channel! I'm 53, and am considering full time RV living. I watched 3 of your videos tonight, and plan to watch the rest. I need to do lots of research before I decide, but I'm sure your videos will help with my decision. I'm in NM, too.
Be sure you are able you can handle that. It looks hard to me. I would like them for a week maybe.
Thanks for making this 👀 contemplating the jump!
Sure thing! Jump on in...the water's delightful.
You are such an inspiration, love your videos:)
wow, I hung on your every word. Angels must work through you.
Just bought your book. Looks promising!!!
