- In this video you will learn how to easily and quickly combine different frame rates in to one video to give it a crisp, smooth, professional cinematic look in Adobe Premiere Pro. I explain frame rates and the importance of using them properly in different situations while shooting video. Always remember to plan what you are shooting and adjust your frame rates accordingly to minimize the work in post production. Regardless of which frame rates you use, 24 FPS, 30 FPS, 60 FPS or even 120 FPS, you want to streamline them as quickly as possible to make yourself more efficient! :)

Awesome video tutorial, thank you. Strait to the point. Keep the good work up!
My pleasure! Glad you found it helpful! 😊
thx, exactly what I've been looking for(:
My pleasure!
I've been searching all over UA-cam , your video has saved me so much heartache!
I’m glad you found it to be helpful!
Amazing video, thank you. Explained things perfectly.
My pleasure! I’m glad you it was helpful! 😊
I need how to make them all work together, not have one be in slow motion :(
change the sequence settings in the sequence menu
in the same project window right click the clips, select speed/duration and set to it to, for example, 500% for a clip with original 120 fps (original fps / sequnce fps * 100). This way it'll play at normal speed and still match the sequence fps
yeah, IDK why he didnt mention the speed adjustment solution. The way this is produced it just generates another problem. Especially if ppl are making video collages of variable sources. But @maxjerman is right. You have to adjust the speed by the ratios of the source framerates to the sequence framerate
This comment should be pinned.
@@drapetomania_ Is it better to choose the lower or higher framerate to adjust all the videos to? Or does it not matter?
Thank you! This is exactly what I need
My pleasure!
Thanks for this very helpful tutorial. Unfortunately i have already edited my footage. Is there a way to fix that after the editing? Maybe some tweaks on the export setting?
Thanks for this. Proved to be super helpful.
My pleasure!
Just to save everyone's time. The video actually starts @ 1:20
Thank you for your video. I would really love to use both my cameras with different fps.
My pleasure!
Thanks , it was so hepful. Blessings
My pleasure! 😊
super helpful--thanks.
My pleasure
Thank You for the video. I have an interview I'm editing where one camera is at 60fps and the other is 30fps. What do you suggest on that type of issue? Thank You.
Thank you so much it just saved me
My pleasure!!
Thanks a lot
My pleasure!
Thank you for the video. I can't seem to get my footage at the higher fps rate of 60fps to go onto the timeline with the other footage at 24fps for some reason but I'm a complete beginner and it all seemed like too much for me but now I've seen your video I'm going to give it another try.
Let me know if it works for you or if you have any questions! Good luck!
@@MonsterGadgets Thank you, it works if I select footage of different frame rates and then right click and chose to make a new sequence with the selects clips from the drop down menu. If I've already put a single clip onto the timeline it won't let me add any other video clips, but it will put any audio up that goes with the clip I'm trying to add to the timeline /sequence just without the video footage. I wish I knew what I'm doing wrong!! Because it's so frustrating watching tutorial after tutorial where they just drag video clips from their imported media files straight over onto the timeline with no problems at all while adding multiple clips of all different kinds. Media Encoder always opens every time I import any video clips is that normal?
I have as of late shot a portion of the recordings from my cellphone where the frame rates contrast like 19,11,16 and 13. So I select every one of them and modify it to 27.975 FPS. Does it effect my video quality?
Your the man🙏
😂 thanks!
Good job!
Thank you!
Thank you So much
My pleasure!
Ahh thankyou so much
My pleasure!
Thankyou so much sir ❣️

Great stuff, thanks a lot!! One question though: If I change the modify the frame rate of videos that are already in the timeline - will that still work? Or do I have to delete those in the timeline and drag them in again? Just asking as I've already started cutting... Thank you very much!
Thanks! You should be able to change it without a problem.
you just solved the issue i’m struggling for years 😆💯
I’m happy to hear it was helpful! 😊
Great info! Is this possible to do in Da VInci Resolve aswell? :)
Thank you. I’ve never used Da Vinci but I would assume you can. Just wouldn’t know how to, sorry.
Can I layer a 15fps animation from procreate over my 30fps video project in premiere ? Or will it mess up my animation BC it's natural fps is too slow?
Okany but now you've ended up with some footage at normal speed, and some footage slowed down. What do you do from here to obviously have all the footage at the same speed ?
New to this... my Whole Project In 30fps (footage & Audio interviews ) was given new audio interview in 60fps .... is there any way to use it ? Matching to project fps makes it sound weird, not matching FPS makes it look weird
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for the video.
I am planning on shooting a boxing promotional/cinematic video, i want to use 24fps for the cinematic look but then some parts will be filmed at 60fps to enable me to create slow motion sections. If i have to convert the 60fps to 24fps then how will i make the scenes that go from normal speed to slow motion?
Thanks
Hi. My pleasure! You would work on a 24fps timeline and bring in your 60fps clips which should automatically slow down like i showed in the video. You can set them all to 24 or you can do them one by one. Let me know if you have any other questions and I would love to see your final project if your willing to share.
Am working on a short film who has a 25 FPS footages with 16 FPS Stop motion rushs and i was wondering what would happen if i wanted a LOWER frame rate footage to get HIGHER ? i really don't know how to put them together in the same timeline...is it even possible, because its like generating images that doesn't even exist isn't it ?
Hello, I think your video has really helped me understand Frame rates and how they are "seen" in program. (for me, Premier Pro) I'm a total newbie and if I understand right. If you drop a clip into sequence, it establishes that f rate for sequence. So when you drop the next clip into sequence that is a different fr rate, Pr-Pro will interpolate that clip to match first clip. BUT, if you change original fr-rate to sequence fr-rate before you drop it in, it will retain its original frames. Do I make sense? Sorry. Thank you.
Hi thank you. Yes that’s correct
what if you have various clips with various frame rates and you want to fit them in one timeline but playing in normal speed? is there a way to make for example 60 fps to play smooth at 24 without slowmotion?
Im also curious how to do this?
@@wildfilms2718 seems like the only way is to export the footage at slow speed for example at 24 fps and then speed it up in your timeline, it will not bee as smooth but it will work if there is no other solution
Thanks for sharing. What if you work with 100+ videos and want to adjust the speed of multiple videos using speed ramps, how will you know which one is 60/120/240 fps so that you can properly manipulate their speed?
Well thankfully the gameplay footage I’m using doesn’t need the audio. Good video. Ty
My pleasure!
thanks , know I know how to handle multiple fps
My pleasure!!
Awesome, thank you! Quick question, though: does the assumed frame rate have to match the lowest frame rate you’ve included in your timeline for it to work properly?
It depends on what you set your timeline to
@@MonsterGadgets Alright, thank you.
Thank u, u saved my lifeeee and hours of work in vain
Hello!
i'm looking for a way to reduce the framerate (from 30 to 12 i/s) with slowing the video down! like i just want to skip some frames and having a non-fluid movements...
is there a way to do that?
thank you in advance
Hi. It would be very choppy if you did that. Can I ask what your trying to achieve and what is the footage about?
@@MonsterGadgets i want to have an old video game/ stop motion feeling, also, character will be filmed in green screen and pixelated, like the old mortal kombat games.
yeah but what if I dont want my high fps footage slowed down? I'm shooting dance, high in action, so I want to edit 100p footage on a 25fps timeline, with the 100p footage played normal tempo, not slow-mo. of course I have multiple fps footage.. 25, 50, 100p, in one time line..
I have the exact same question. I want to combine 24 and 60 fps while playing the videos at their original speed. The way I see it I'd have to set the project to 60 fps (that way the 60 fps video plays normally) and convert the 24 fps video to 60 fps. It's probably not gonna look perfect because "upscaling" 24 to 60 will cut some frames out, but it will retain the contrast I need for the project. In your case I think if you use 25 50 and 100 you can make it look exceptionally smooth, since all the program has to do is double or quadruple every frame to match 100.
I see absolutely no answers to this problem anywhere, so if somebody could correct me that'd be great.
@@danielhernandezhs after 2 months did you get your question answered? I also would like to know that.
@@Feiersinger8 Nope, best bet is to try to mix 30 and 60. The 30fps bits won't look exactly like 24, but close enough I guess
@@danielhernandezhs Well, I'm just spending all day looking for an answer. I saw this and I'm trying it right now... If your timeline is 25fps and your footage is 60fps and 120fps but you're interpreting all the footage at 25fps...
- 60fps interpreted at 25fps (aka 41.6% speed). If you want to play that back in real-time use: 240% ( 60 / 25 = 2.4 = 240%)
- 120fps interpreted at 25fps (aka 20.8% speed). If you want to play that back in real-time use: 480% (120 / 25 = 4.8 = 480%)
- and so on...
@@danielhernandezhs Just a tip, the rule is set your timeline frame rate at the lowed frame rate you'll be using, so if you're to edit a 24fps on a 60fps timeline it will look very stuttery.
In saying that for the higher frame rates on the 24fps timeline, they will need to be slowed down to also avoid the frames skipping.
So 60 fps on a 24fps timeline
Slowmotion effect : 40%
Real time effect: 80%
Hope that help
thank u for the video but I have two questions :
as a complete beginner I edited my video without paying attention to the fps and now I want to change them all to 23.976..is it possible to do that now that everything is in my timeline and already edited?
And does this apply to proxies? A lot of my footage is in 4K and I had made proxies for them..do I have to redo pretty much everything?
If you change it after your edits, it will not align with any additions you might have made like graphics, text, sound tracks, etc. the best thing to do is always set your timeline/FPS first before doing edits.
MonsterGadgets I see :/ Definitely will be doing that next time. Thank you.
My pleasure! Good luck!
I'm working on a 24fps timeline, I have drone footage at 30fps and I want to keep the 30fps at 30fps but the rest at 24fps . Is that possible? The 30fps drone footage looks really choppy and I want that smoothness for the drome
That's exactly what I wanna know too! Anyone? (thanks!)
If I’m importing a 1s 60fps vid into a 30fps sequence, do I get a 2s video at 30fps?
Yes
Hi. If I shoot birds at 120fps & want to show it in real time(not slowing down by modifying to 24 fps) how do I do it on 24fps timeline, please?
Hi. You just import it on the 24fps timeline without doing anything else. It should play smoothly without slowing it down.
Any way to get there different clips to play nicely without slowing down the video?
I shot a live music performance with two cameras and two different frame rates and want to align them with the external audio recording. Any ideas are much appreciated.
I would avoid doing that. Unless your final export lets say is 30 fps and you wanted to add some slow motion (wont be able to use that audio, only background audio)then record 60 or 120 and slow those clips to 30 and that will create a slow motion 30 fps video. I just shot a conference and my partner accidently shot in 24 when I shot in 30 and now I cant use his videos. Maybe I can somehow export my 30 fps into 24 but not sure how that'll work with syncing audio.
Fuck... I just wasted 6 hours with Adobe on chat. In the end, they recommended I use Handbrake to convert all my drone videos in 24 fps and remake my project. Thanks for that video! +1 sub.
Yikes!! Sorry to hear that! Thanks for the support!
Should you do this before or after making proxies?
It shouldn’t matter (I think) but prob better if you do it before you make proxies
Hi I am trying to edit a friends' Birthday Greeting vid for her mom's 75th birthday. So I am pulling in videos but yes all cell phones and videos are not alike. So many different Frame rates. How do I edit 10 fps 15 fps along with 24.00, 29.97, 30.00 ? I tried the Modify > Interpret Footage to 29,00 but the 10 fps sped up the audio. Help!
Hi the audio isn’t going to match. If your using 24 FPS as a standard, any other frame rates you change to 24 will not align the audio if you use this method.
I have a sequence with 5 clips at 29.97 and 1 clip at 60 fps and it is always out of sync
If I already edited my video in multiple frame rates before knowing this, can I change the whole video into 24 fps without messing up the effects I've already done
I don’t believe you can. If the timeline is set for 24fps and any video that’s not, it will change it to 24fps, impacting the length of that video. same goes for if you changed it to 30fps or any other fps.
can you use two dirrerent frame rates in the same video and play then at their native speed?
No you can’t
@@MonsterGadgets So if I shot film at 16fps and 24 frames per second and had a progressive scan done frame for frame, I could not encode them to their native time line and put them in the same piece of work?
I captured footage on my iPhone, not sure why... but some of the videos are saying 60, 59.95, 59.97, 59.94 and even some down at 52... should I use this same technique and have them all at the 59.96 like my Sequence calls for? Just starting out and learning about all of this.. thank you!
That is extremely odd. It shouldn’t do that. I would try it on the 59.96 timeline and see if you actually see any changes. It shouldn’t be much at all if any besides the one your saying is showing at 52? That might be visible. Let me know how it works out for ya.
@@MonsterGadgets will do. Thank you. I captured the footage through a DJI phone stabilizer device, which I captured through their app. I think it had some lag issues possibly. Not really sure
One more question, is the best FPS for travel vlogs and sitting in front of the camera 1080p 60fps?
No. You want to use either 24 or 30 for vlogs. It will give it more of a natural look. Use 60 when you want to do slow motion. 1080p is great but if your able to do 4K, it will be much sharper. Just keep in mind that 4K uses A LOT more memory to capture the footage and will require a more power to edit on the computer. So if you have a older computer it might give you some trouble unless you want to use proxies. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@@MonsterGadgets dang. Okay I just shot a short travel Vlog last weekend in 60... I guess I’ll change that from here on out.
What would I do if I have two clips: one is a clip of me speaking which the frame rate is 30 fps and a clip of my desktop computer which is 60 fps, how would I be able to edit them when I want the entire clip to be 60 fps
Hi. You would basically be ramping up the 30fps to 60fps.Use Optic Flow and that basically will generate the gaps in the frames as you bump up the 30fps to 60fps. Good luck!
Hi! I want to buy a new phone and show its different framerates. But I don't understand how will it work when editing comes.
I mean, can I show the different frame rate let's say my sequence is 24 FPS but I want to show that the smartphone is capable of 60 FPS. Many will suggest the slow down method. But can I show the footage on real time? No slow downs and still visually show 24, 30 and 60 FPS?
Hi. If you put 60 fps on a 24 fps timeline, it will slow it down. You really shouldn’t be shooting in anything higher than 30 fps unless you plan on slowing it down in post. If you do want to shoot in 60 and not slow it down, just make your timeline 60fps. Import the video and it won’t slow it down. Hope this helps!
@@MonsterGadgets thanks for the reply. Although I don't know how tech vloggers do it. It seems that they can show various frame rates of the latest smartphones that they review. Like on iPhones and even on Samsung flagships.
Can you share a link of an example?
@@MonsterGadgets ua-cam.com/video/IsAgDCfhNbo/v-deo.html
That's a sample video of the Samsung S20 various frame rates and resolution videos. Actual video test starts at 4:08 of his video.
I'm not sure if he edited that correctly though.
What's the difference of interpreting it and slowing it down? It seems to me that you just basically slowed the clips down which you can also do even without interpreting it.
Are you going for the lowest frame rate because going for the highest rate would create gaps and the gaps would make the video jump from frame to frame?
I think he's doing that yeah. I heard WhoisMatt saying that too, I believe. But gosh, I have a problem. I have a 15fps video clip and other 24fps video clips. Obviously, I want a 24fps sequence for the final video. But then, I heard putting a 15fps video into 24fps sequence would be a huge mistake since it's the same as requesting Premiere pro to magically create 9 frames more each second... What do I do?????
I have a 60fps clip and a 120 fps clip. Should I make 120fps clip into 60fps? Or make 60fps clip to 120fps? So curious
You want to make the 120 to 60 but know that it will slow it down and make it longer. If you try to make the 60 to 120, it will be very choppy.
@@MonsterGadgets I need adjust 120fps clip to 60fps. Then speed that clip up in "duration". Do u have a clip about adjusting the sound when we speed up or slow up a clip? Causewhen I do that, the sound sounds so weird
Yeah the sound really can’t be adjusted to match it as you move the speed of the new clips. That’s why it’s important to shoot at the appropriate frame rates when you want to capture audio (generally at 24). The rest like 60 or 120 should be used to capture slow motion, not so much for audio. Hope that makes sense but let me know if you have any other questions.
@@MonsterGadgets Thank you. I don't know why the sound slowed down (in Spd Duration) in Premiere Pro sound like monsters growling in the background, not music or human voice anymore,
can we still lower the speed of the 60 fps video that we changed to 24 fps?
?
Yes
@@MonsterGadgets alright thankyou so much
dude, your eyes is whiter than your house! and amazing tutorial tho, big thanks!
it’s the light 😂😂. My pleasure!
So how do i sync a 30 fps audio if i want the video to be 24 fps also
how do i solve this prob
Out the 30fps on a 24fps timeline and the audio will sync automatically
How does this take advantage of the higher frame rates shot? For example, being able to slow it down?
You would have to set it up accordingly. Meaning the higher FR with your timeline then import others. You could manually do it as well.
if half the camera clips are 59.94 and half the drone shots are 29.97 would you bring everything up to 59.94 or everything down to 29.97 fps?
You would want to bring it down.
@@MonsterGadgets if i trimmed a ton of clips on their own respected sequences and copy and past them to a new 29.97 sequence is that going to screw things up? Im worried i may have to recut all the clips from their originals on the new sequence
It shouldn’t but it’s recommended that you change it in the project together or on the same timeline as you import it. Please be sure to keep a copy of the original in case you need to refer back to them for whatever reason.
Premiere doesn't even allow me to drag a 30 fps clip into a sequence that was created with a 24 fps clip. Please help! Desperate now.
What does it tell you? Before you put it on the timeline, change it as I showed in the video.
nice but not that helpfull... in most cases when we have an 120fps we need some parts of the clip to play at normal speed (24 fps timeline) and some other parts of the same clip to slow down in the same timeline (sequence)... this way, it will play either at normal speed or slow down, cannot make combinations, right ?
👍
Thx!
the hiss tho its so high
combines the files sure, but i would assume that most people trying to find this video are looking for something that plays back the footage at the same speed. Having one clip play back in slow motion is next to useless....
