After 3 devastating losses in the last 3 seasons (after 3 consecutive 12-5 regular season finishes) the Cowboys officially have a playoff problem. Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy are on the hot seat heading into the 2024 season, so maybe they can look at past losses to figure out what in the hell is going wrong. This week’s episode uses the coaches all 22 to analyze Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and the team’s playoff woes.

If your a real Dallas fan you can predict Dak throwing the pick by the first few drives
just because Dak throws an int dosnt necessarily mean its his fault. His receivers run the wrong routes all the time.

As a niners fan, their biggest issue is the mental side of the game. The biggest issue is Jerry Jones. Imagine your boss talks to national media outlets everyday talking about your daily performance. It is very hard to work in that kind of environment. That is the biggest issue. You notice that no other league in pro sports is on the tv and radio as much as jones. Jones has to big of an ego and no other owner in pro sports does this. This is a difficult culture to thrive in. It is hard for it not to get to you. The cowboys are destined to fail. Jones has to change his attitude. The sooner the better the cowboys will be.
exactly
Cowboys fan here, I really don't feel like Jerruh talking to the media is what's causing the team to drop off in the playoffs. I think it comes down to the coaching first, players next. One thing that isn't spoken about in the video is how the cowboys adjust to what their opponent is doing in game, because they don't.
You may not remember but during the 90s Jerry would go out on the sidelines during the games. If you think him talking to the media is a distraction, think about that. We know what those teams were able to accomplish. Also, when he talks to the media, he's almost always positive about his players. He doesn't really badmouth or criticize them in any way that wouldn't be said in the locker room.
There's a reason so many players love him and even when they play for multiple teams they feel like Dallas is home.
We don't have an authoritarian coach and that's what you need when you have an owner/gm like Jerry Jones. The success was there with Jimmie Johnson and he was that guy. Bill Parcells took an awful team to the playoffs. Garrett was a players coach but he wouldn't adjust. 'we like our guys' 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
McCarthy has had loaded teams and like the video shows the other teams KNOW what we're doing and shut it down.
I love Dak and he's a terrific QB in the reg season but we need a coach that's going to instill a confidence in him post season. Before he gets another payday we need to figure out who that coach will be.
It’s truly impressive how a team can look so good in the regular season only to completely look like a different team altogether.

Cowboys offense always shits the bed in playoffs, largely on Dak being just an above avg qb and nothing more
They play like they have a game breaking QB when they have a game managing QB. If in the playoff they were tough defense just dont mess it up on offense they would be better. but Dak gets crazy regular season stats but deep down is a slightly above avg QB who cant really elevate the team. Its like hes John Elway if he wasn't clutch.

And the 20 years they shit the bed and Dak was, a child?
Wait till you find out how bad the defense is during the playoffs
in the 2nd game against the niners there were so many plays where Gallup just gave up on plays
This is why every NFL franchise should be looking for an ELITE quarterback instead of a serviceable starter. Guys like Dak, Tua, and Goff aren’t “bad” but they can’t beat the best teams without an amazing supporting cast.
no quarterback WINS with incompetence
Football is a team sport. It isn't all on the QB. Give an elite QB a "merely serviceable" "supporting cast" and the team will not be the best either.
Only 2-3 teams get to have an 'elite' QB. Maybe 1-3 teams develop a young one within five years out of rookie prospects. I do admire a team like the Lions where they chose to build the other positions on offense around a QB like Goff who could probably sniff playing at a top 10 level in the next few years. Hell for the Chiefs case when all they had on offense was Mahomes, they had developed a top 5 defense built for the playoffs. A similar scenario as well for the Rams in 2022 when they had Stafford but also one of the top playoff defenses anchored by Aaron Donald.
So basically unless you’re the chiefs draft a Qb high every single year lol?
@@1001011011010and yet the chiefs were exactly this in 2023 and still were crowned the best 😭
The cowboys own the playoff choke about as hard as the niners own the superbowl choke.

‘Dak isn’t a creator’ everything I needed to hear
I've always kind of suspected that Dak was overrated. That was one of Jerry Jones's best post-Jimmy-Johnson rosters, and Dak could look superb just playing in structure. I feel like if his and Romo's careers had been swapped, Romo would have a lot more playoff wins than Dak and probably have a ring or two.
Romo was a choker too.
LOL Romo never got past the 2nd round either the few occasions the Cowboys got there. Even when he was doing the heavy lifting and the rest of the Cowboys roster wasn't up to par. If anything Jerry was saved by getting two starting caliber QBs in the last decade from the late rounds. And not paying them earlier when their market value isn't ginormous.
Not a Cowboy fan AT ALL, but I'll second that take. The Romo choker narrative always seemed crazy overblown to me. He only had two top 10 defenses his whole career (and a few bottom-of-the-league ones) and only had a solid o-line at the very beginning and very end of his career. Dak has had stacked teams most of hisl. It's that truck vs trailer thing: Romo was often the truck, pulling the team; Dak is a trailer, being pulled by it. Either way the Cowboys lose and I smile, but you're right: Romo got a bad rap, Dak has earned his.
Romo took over teams that were built and coached by Parcells.... sorry but Romo had his shot and he went to Cabo.
Romo was a worse choker than Dak
The epitome of playoff chocking the accident waiting to happen every year the Dallas Cowboys. On a serious note they have so much talent every year just to come up short i know is depressing for cowboys fans

- Visionary AlexRollinsNFL, 2024
Tried to slide in a low key dick joke in there
Jared Goff has more playoff victories.. then the last( 11) cowboy quarterbacks..
Cowboys haven't gone to the SB in almost 30 years at this point, and the problem is that they're too proud to let the "America's Team" thing go. This team doesn't draft 1st round QBs and don't trade for them either, they stumble upon good underrated QBs "no one saw coming". They are risk averse and allergic to rebuilds. It will be very hard to get out of this situation if they're not willing to let Dak go, try and find the next special QB in the first 2 rounds and understand it takes at least 1, 2 years of being bad, to come back strong.
Every year they say "it's our year" but deep inside they know it's not. What makes it worse is that, for example, in this up coming season they know things won't be great but they're desperately trying to hope for a 10 win season. The question is, why? What would winning 10 games with a team that has no chance of beating (at the very best scenario possible) the Chiefs in the Superbowl? The Cowboys is the very definition of a team stuck in limbo. You can count on two things: 1- They won't get far in the playoffs 2- They will get far enough to put themselves out of the top draft picks. That's the recipe for stagnation.
The issue with this type of thinking is that blow it up type of rebuilds often don't work (and teams that try it often suck for more than a couple years), first round picks (especially QBs) can bust anyway, and winning a SB isn't the only goal (though I would argue a team winning 10 has a chance to win the SB...it is any given Sunday and weird fluke stuff happens. Like the Chiefs won the Super Bowl because the punt after an 3 and out so happened to hit a 9er on their foot at just the right angle that a Chiefs player was able to get it and get an almost free TD instead of losing possession of the ball, enabling them to tie the game to go into overtime). If you can stay competitive while undergoing a bit of a soft rebuild that can be good. But given their regular season success I don't think it's a given the talent per se is really the problem.
We need a "if I was OC" segment for each team.. Also a "how to watch football" class
This past year was the best chance they couldve asked for, they even got a free pass for two home games to make the CC. Even staunch haters and JJ/McCarthy non-believers had thier buttholes clenched. Turns out there was no need to worry.
I'm not even a cowboys fan. But man it really feels the coaches (Dan Campbell especially) sold that Green Bay game last season. Dan Quinn play calling as a defensive coordinator was terrible. And he's actually a very good DC.
Naw im not gonna blame quinn as much something that is overlooked is how little talent the cowboys have on defence tbh, they got parsons bland and Gilmore outside of that it is rough and only was good due to scheme but even then with how the offence was only on the field for 3 plays or less it made the d get tired
I just think the play calling of Matt lafleur is incredibly underrated. He’s one of the best offensive minds in the league in my opinion.
Or Quinn's Cover 3/Cover 1 design has difficulty defending the McVay/Shanahan style offensive play callers. Especially in January if they are talented enough to exploit the holes in Quinn's defensive play calling.
This video shows that it was mostly on the players.
@@aaronk8532 agree on that 110% then you add love who was playing on an elite level it makes it really really difficult for a defence to beat especially when your qb turns the ball over multiple times
What made it more obvious of a choke job is once they got comfortable they started scoring at will, but by then it was too late. I dont know how everyone except for moore didnt get fired. The packers werent that good to blow the cowboys out even if Love was playing well
You do realize that the Packer’s defense starts to play softer when they get up. Just trying to not give up the big play and make offenses work the entire field and eat up the clock. That’s why they started moving the ball lol
It's not hard to score against prevent defense.
They did not get comfortable the packers started playing their comically bad prevent defense

Now the Mavericks is looking for another chance of finals appearance. Cowboys has become a recurring joke in Dallas sports.
Boston beat the brakes off them 😹
It’s something deeper than just dak, watch him in the regular season and he’s absolutely a creator as Alex called it but something changes in the whole team during the playoffs, it was most apparent in ceedee this year where he was slouching and playing with like half energy from the get go. It’s inexplicable
Love the fact that Alex is totally doing a play on @EmpLemon's video title. It's a really good reference.
Tbh I have no idea who that is 😂
For years now, I have thought their playoff chokes are the direct result of poor coaching. Both 9ers losses were on final plays or drives that were abysmally called and executed. The Packers loss was simply being caught sleeping on an opponent because of seeding. Green Bay came with a plan and Dallas thought they could coast to the Divisional round. They did not.
McVay/Shanahan style offenses have easily put up points against Quinn's (then DC) man style coverages. Watch videos on the pass plays LaFleur went with to kill the Cowboys secondary and get explosives. It was consistent and Quinn had zero counters to it. Cowboys defense under Quinn in recent years has been great in the regular season. But whenever he got matched against the Niners (Shanahan) in the playoffs, Quinn can't stop them from moving down the field.
Ah yes, the connoisseurs of the playoff choke 😆
It seems like a recurring issue since the Jason Garrett days.
Dak and receivers are poor against post snap, where the coverage is way different than what they expect.
Dak Prescott and Kirk Cousins are one and the same.
I love how you described Dak. "He's good, but he's not an elevator." I completely agree, and that goes with Kirk also.
Dak has led many top 3 offenses, Kirk despite having Adam thielen, diggs, cook, Kyle Rudolph and Justin freaking Jefferson has never led a top 5 offense. But yes I see what you’re saying.
@@Johnhargrove18 Well on Kirk's end let's be real, he's only had a really good coach for the last two years. Kevin O Connell is the real deal.
But I also do see where you're coming from.

Dak is a choke god
People are going to watch this video and come away with the wrong conclusion. Why is it all on dak to win these games? In all 3 games that Alex showed, they had less than 20 carries, while dak had 37+ attempts. Combine that with a defense that allowed 130 plus on the ground in 2 of those 3 games. Jordan love gets a running game against the niners and should’ve beaten them if he was a better Qb. Goff also had a great running game against the niners and lost(he tensed up a lil but Dan was to blame.) what about Joe burrow defense carrying him through his superbowl run? Dak is like 65-17 when his team runs for 100+ so why on earth would the cowboys keep putting everything on him to win it when other teams don even hold there Qb to that expectation
Choking since 95' . That's rough. Imagine 30 years and nothing close.
Great content!!!

Great video. Dallas play this way all regular season against good teams. They haven't beaten many good teams over the past 3 years. And the ones they did beat were close at home.

Cowboys are one of the most consistent teams in the NFL? Consistently bad 😂😂
So the problem wasn't Amari's route, it was Dak misreading the zone. I heard this constantly that year. The receivers not on the same page. Dak was on the wrong page.
thats cap. Dak made the right read while his receivers dont know what the hell they are doing.
@@toadfrench7801 In that instance you either didn't listen to what was said or you are just shilling for Dak. If it was man he should have kept going. But it was zone and he needed to settle in the open area. Just because Dak needs him to stand perfectly still and show him his numbers isn't on Amari. That's why they ran so many comebacks and McCarthy actually did away with option routes.
Looks like Dak struggles with rotating safeties. Muh in-structure QBs have their limitations for sure.
The reason why Dak has played so poorly is probably because of his mindset. he treats the playoffs completely different vs the regular season, which is why he is so uptight & by the book. He faces pressure from all of the fans for Dallas & tries to live up to their expectations instead of his own. If he had a mindset like Brady (who treated EVERY game like a Super Bowl, regular season & Postseason), then these woes might've never happened. At the end of the day, its the psychological side of football that can win or lose games.
People have to understand that the Jones' Family builds teams based on how they like to watch football.
Thats why the D can never stop the run. They prefer the D get sacks and picks... Defense wins championships and they cant build a playoff D.
Reminds me of the 1998 Falcons and the 2003 Chiefs
Both teams led the league in turnovers, forced fumbles and recoveries and interceptions
Both teams ranked 24th and 28th in total defense
Once a team coaches their players just don't turn it over on both their mediocre to bad defenses got exposed
The Broncos exposed the falcons and Mike Shannahan actually called the dogs off by third quarter or broncos would of scored 44 points
The Colts protected the ball and was up 38-17 by the third quarter
Getting turnovers are important but if you're defense isn't playing great overall yardage allowed defense any team who just protects the ball will expose it
That's what the 49ers and Packers do every year to Dallas
Dak is just Kirk Cousins in a different body.

Like the Packers and Niners don't have pressure in the playoffs?
A lot of what is missed from this is the coaching. McCarthy did the same with the Packers. Look great in the regular season, and crap the bed in the playoffs. It feels like the lack of attention to detail off the field translates to a lack of attention on it. The team looks like they have no plan, and McCarthy does not make adjustments when things are going wrong. It is why the Cowboys will also have at least one utter stinker in the regular season too. Prescott clearly struggles with the pressure of big moments too, but McCarthy holds this team back.
What does tight really mean? Tense? Semichoke?
Have you ever been stressed out or in a stressful situation look down in your hands are in balls and you've been squeezing them and not even knowing it, your whole body gets tense and it wears you out so fast because every muscle is doing things that it shouldn't be doing all the time. They put a heart monitor on Patrick mahomes and the only time that it spiked is when he was on the sidelines watching the defense. Some players can slow their heart rate down and get rid of that tightness, at least the best ones can
Tense, uncomfortable, pressing
where do you find the nfl films footage? not the all 22 but the slowed down ones

Artichoke? What a great Dak nickname!!!!! Brilliant!
This was an interesting spotlight on the Cowboys recent playoff woes. Reminds me of the Houston Oilers struggling for 7 straight seasons from 1987 to 1993 where they couldn't even make a championship game despite being a constant playoff participant. The Cowboys in the last three seasons did have two close losses at home to the 49ers, but the L against the Packers was pretty shocking. I'm not sure what it is. Doesn't seem like there is any variable on paper that could point to the reason why Dallas can't get past the divisional round. A part of me wants to say it's this pressure not only on Dak, but the entire organization since they're always being talked about in the media whether they're good or bad. I don't see the Cowboys culture changing anytime soon (especially under the Jones' family) so they'll just have to keep grinding I guess. Not that I want them to figure it all out :)
Thanks TLD! Usually these things stem from ownership and the culture within, that's really the only constant in all this
Based on this film the dallas cowboys really just be choking in big games. Players are open but dropping passes, players running wrong routes, dak bring skiddish in the pocket. Straight up choke jobs
Jerry Jones doesn’t care, he knows all those fans that burned and threw away their jerseys are lining up to buy new ones already, he makes his money and doesn’t have to do anything. Dallas will always be a dumpster fire as long as he’s attached to it!

And people were mad when Cam said that Dak is a game manager…
You cover all my points dak struggles reading defenses post snap. He needs things perfect and on schedule. And does not go through his progressions. In his 8th season that’s not good. He is a choker
Dak doesn't have the clutch gene like even Brock Purdy. He is not the answer. He is an above average regular season stat guy. The only thing that matters in the playoffs is "W's". Dak seems to be allergic to those
Just study the cowhoes and you will see what "choking" is
exactly, Dak has been doing his job. The rest of the team needs to level up.

You have to make a video of the Packers choking in the playoffs too. They are Super choke artists.
I have! It's on my channel
Never understood why Dallas has been so god awful in the playoffs. Everyone from Tony Romo to Micah Parsons have found a way to play the worst form of football ever and do it at the worst time every year.
I think that's what happens when everyone on the team knows they don't count playoff stats in contact negotiations.
Take a look at the beginning of Sounds from the Game v WFT.
They get Parsons on mic saying this is the last game to get paid bc they don't count the playoffs.
Romo’s last playoff game in 2014 against GB he played great, not his fault the refs were in bed with the Packers

Honesty this doesn't so much come off has playoff choking but what Dak Prescott with the Cowboy's are by design. You're right in that he's very methodical and buy the book which helps with consistency and consistency is the name of the game in the regular season.
However when it comes time for the playoffs creativity and talent start becoming more important against defenses who've studied your playbook.
Dak and the Cowboys really only have one more season to prove they can adapt to this otherwise the dark and rainy rebuild cloud is slowly drifting over Dallas.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this happening to the Cowboys but so what? Go to the Super Bowl 4 times in a row with nothing to show for it and then get back to me.
Dams strength is the RPO… losing Zekes production out of that formation has never been replaced since Zeke got his money.
Cowboys will miss the playoffs next year
Jerrys kids always think they have the answers… same record for 3 seasons in a row for the 3rd time.
I don't even have to look and I know that's a record.
To have the same record for 3 seasons in a row on 3 different occasions means 1 thing!
Your plans to improve the team never work!
The Cowboys is not a professional organisation. The GM picks the wrong players and pays them more than they're worth (both Dak and Elliot spring to mind). In a league with a salary cap, paying too much for one thing cripples your ability to spend on something else.
Now did the GM get his job by being good at being a GM or because he has lots of money? That, right there, is the Cowboys' main problem.
Rank the GM, HC and QB with all of the other teams in the league and Dak ranks higher than Jerry and MMc
Romo was a great creator, shame they benched him for Dak in 2016, probably wouldve taken them farther in hindsight
Their stars vanish in the playoffs and the play design is terrible
Maybe they should fire the GM? 🤔
It's very pleasing to know that every Cowboys fan with memory of them of them winning a SB now has at least some grey hair.
