God job done there James. I see others have mentioned in the comments about using silicone on the shower trap. I would definitely run silicone on both the trap and rubber seal. Then in the shower a silicone seal around the trap where you screw it it. All the best. Loving the build.
Hi James. You should really be fitting fuses as close to the source of power as possible and in the case of your gulper the fuse to the pump should be close to the heavy terminals. The heavy cable itself fused near the battery. The purpose of the fuse is to protect the cable rather than the device on the end. The closer to the power source the more of the cable is protected against shorting. 👍🏼
Yeah, the “as close to the device as possible” thing is just incorrect (backwards, in fact). It’s the same as with house wiring: the power company has really big fuses and puts really big cables in the ground. Then when it comes into your house, you get a big whole house fuse, and the cables from then on can handle the whole current allowed by that fuse without causing fire. Then you go into your fuse box, and you have a bunch of smaller fuses, each of which is connected to a size of normal house cable which can handle all the current permitted by that fuse without burning your house down, and then (in the UK) you have your plug with a fuse in it, and then after that the cable can be thinner still that goes to your appliance, but it still won’t burn your house down because the cable can handle all the power that the fuse in the plug will allow.

The Whalegulper strikes me as being mounted rather high James. I've always seen them mounted roughly level with the floor, I assume to help with priming, though it clearly manages anyway.
Hi James. I told you I'd seen that programme before... ;o) Any excuse for a cup of tea is a good excuse. And now you know why I gave up plumbing. When you take that trap apart, make sure to add a ring of silicone sealant between the underside of the shower tray and the trap fitting. I didn't see a washer there, and you've cut away most of the flange that provides a seal. All the best, mate. If you fancy a pint after work, drop me a text. ;o)
Nice one James, famous across the globe ! Check that the bend in the hose near the skin fitting doesnt collapse into a kink if it softens so much once it gets warm shower water going thru it though. Maybe try finding a 90 degree fitting to go directly onto the skin fitting to connect the hose to ?
Morning James. Make sure your shower fitting in the tray is sealed as you only put the water in the waste trap 🤔 When you’re in the shower the tray will flex and May leak ……… 🙄 That was funny when you said I’ve chucked out my parmesan 🤣 Safe trip to the smoke in the Dagenham dustbin 😂
As mentioned in previous comments the whale gulper inlet from the shower should be level or below the shower trap. The water In the shower tray will need to build up to prime the pump.
James you are using the crimp tool the wrong way round. You should pull the lever up and the wires go into the lugs from the coloured dots side. That's how I was taught to use them during my apprenticeship.
Quite a bit done today and a nice long episode. I think you can flip the whale gulper inlet and outlet 180 degrees if that helps. Make sure you dont get an electric shock on that switch with your wet hands after a shower :)

That is some 'Current Carrying Capacity' cable you have there my friend. It only pulls 2 amps so 1.5mm would have been ample, and that's even taking into consideration the Water Fan. You are only talking of 12v DC after all.
If you fitted a flow switch then you would also need to fit an over run circuit to keep the pump running to ensure the tray emptied. Also once the water drained off the walls there would be no way to drain that. Keep it simple, a switch is fine on its own. I agree with the other posts about supporting the hose so it doesn't sag when it gets warm. And move the fuse to the power source end of the wire not the pump. Good luck with the base plate welding 👍

Normal shower drains have water in them to seal off the odor from the sewer. Same as toilets and sink U bends. In the narrowboat application you don’t need to seal out sewer gas but you might still not want an open connection to the outdoors (say in winter) if you can avoid it.

That’s what I thought but whale say it’s to protect the pump in case of blockages and stop over working. I’ll ask again

Do the job properly as it will be hidden from view - Cut away the floor to allow a trap that hasn't been 'modified' to be fitted...

90 degree fitting would be neater, but this type of reinforced hose doesn’t kink very easily, hot or not. That’s what it’s for.
Don’t forget to fit the hand sink, The correct height. Remember the kids will

Hi James, have you considered putting a filter in line with the gulper. It would catch any hair deposits from the shower.
No women will shower in there mate
Heads up, you can buy water flow sensors to auto switch the gulper on when your in the shower.
I know but it’s just something else to go wrong. It can also be triggered by a float switch.
They tend to be needed for hire boats

I’m surprised the whale gulper can suck water up through air-filled hose, as opposed to most pumps that have to be below the water level.
