I bought one of these also and would give it a”B” as well. I found you have to take extra care to make sure you are inserting and maintaining the pencil EXACTLY perpendicular to the hole during the sharpening otherwise the core is unevenly exposed. That’s not always easy to do. Otherwise a good machine I feel. Great video. Thanks again Kevin.
Hi Dan - I understand your point about having the pencil precisely perpendicular when inserting to get an even sharpen. Somehow I don't see many third-graders being so careful when they go to sharpen their pencils! LOL Thanks!
Thank you for posting this! I've just bought one and thought it was making an odd noise, but I hear now that's just how the motor sounds. Happy new year! 🎉
This is a cutting edge review that gets right to the point 🤣 Might get one of these. I'm using a "heavy metal" staedler manual type and the blade is getting a bit dull.
I have the same pencil sharpener as you I have to get a new one of those same pencil sharpeners, because some of my friends they decided to put a eraser inside of it, they jammed it so hard, and that the motor couldn’t come on anymore so I had to buy a new one on Amazon. I used it now it was the best.
That's both impressive and disappointing. My old Boston electric (somewhere collecting dust now in an empty office) could handle My Pals and Laddies (snugly) in its single aperture. So: nice sharpener, needing a few modifications. Very thorough review!
@@richardkilleffer honestly, I'm not sure. It belongs to the agency where I work, but I've been working from home and haven't been in to the office in a year and a half. I think it's... Blue?
Hi MAMO - Those older Boston electrics were great sharpeners. Hopefully it's still there in the office waiting to be put back into service. Overall this is a good sharpener, just wish it could accommodate the jumbo pencils. Thanks!!
I have the same sharpener but ima replace it with the Teacher Pro larger bin ! And you can sharpen all types of pencils without Changing the dial since it adjusts by itself you should look at it!
I have an x-acto ks hand crank sharpener in my home office. It’s just like the ones I used in school, though those were Boston models of course. I use an electric boston at work but prefer hand crank.
Hi RBS - I think the exterior design of some of the hand crank X-Actos are like the Boston sharpeners, although I think the actual sharpening component may be somewhat different. Those old Boston electrics were pretty good sharpeners. Thanks!
@@AlwaysAnalog I would love to compare a Boston KS and X-acto KS in person side by side. I am sure the mechanism was cheapened substantially when production was offshored. They used to be made proudly just minutes from my childhood home actually - my 5th grade teacher's husband worked in the factory.
Why was the 1675 model from 2014 discontinued. It was awesome the was way quieter than this one. In fact after 9 years of heavy use in a classroom it was started making the sound this one is making. Love the light on top too to indicate sharpening was complete and would stop . Wow this sharpener is so loud I’m writing this as I watch the video. Anyone know where I can buy the older model?
I recently got the School Pro and although I admire its sharpening speech and pencil size options, I found that it produces lead points that are a little too short.
Hi Courtland - I think this is a good all-purpose sharpener. If you prefer certain kinds of points on your pencils for sketching and drawing, there may be others that are better suited. This makes a standard pencil point. Thanks!
It is a good sharpener, but I have a problem with the shavings container constantly coming out. This is very annoying to me and I do not know how to stop that from happening. For that reason, I give it a "B" or "C".
@@AlwaysAnalog I keep checking about that and it is in all the way. I just do not know why it pops out. It happens after a couple of pencils have been sharpened and one is being sharpened. Any other suggestions?
@@donellebrown7856 It might be a little bit of a pain when it's time to empty the shavings, but could you put a rubber band around the bottom part of the sharpener to keep the shavings cup from popping out.
X-Acto makes a model that replaces two of the triangular holes with large holes, and that is the model I opted to get. I agree with Dan Miller that it is an absolute pain in the rear to get an even sharpen though. Most of the time I have to finish off my tip in my manual sharpener, and that just irks me. Do you have any suggestions? I notice you twist your pencils when inserting them, does that help achieve an even point?
Hi Mandalore06 - I think the model you have is more practical, and next time I'll choose the one that has more round hole options. I twist the pencils slowly while they are sharpening - I find that it often helps to even out the cutting, but depending on the pencil it doesn't always work. Thanks!
Very informative, I use lots of colored pencils and I am looking for a Perfect Pencil Sharpener, this may fill the bill! Thanks, Karen Dirmish, learner. 24:21
Hi Mario - I don't have many mechanical pencils because I prefer wood pencils. I like the way they feel to hold and they way the wood smells when you sharpen it. Thanks!
@@mariojr377 As far as sharpeners sold here go, I tend to prefer those by CIS (rebrand of Linc). They put a very nice, long and even point on almost any pencil. They make even the Bic Evolution slightly less awful to use. As for mechanical pencils, in English the graphite rods we call "grafite" or "mina" are called "leads" or "cores".
@@DinnerForkTongue Thank you very for all this information . A good sharpner is Kum Long point. Very simple, made in Germany. In Brazil it costs 5 dollars. (Everything is expensive here because of taxes)

Do they replacement blades for the sharpener if so could someone comment the link to it please.
Great review Kevin! I am definitely in agreement that one more large round hole would go a long way
Thanks, Richard. The lack of a larger opening for jumbo pencils is the biggest drawback to this sharpener.

Why did it stop when you sharpened the big pencils

which model of Boston do you have? My old Panasonic does a great job, but the point it puts on is so long I don't use it very much

Is having larger or smaller holes even necessary at all we’re just one large hole?

Pls reply but why mines gives blunt points and won’t even sharpen evenly

What happens when the blade gets dull?
Unfortunately, the blade does not appear to be replaceable. You would have to buy a new sharpener. Thanks

Get a Linc sharpener, preferably with a pencil-holding clutch at the front face. They're faaaar better.
