You know in the Barbie movie when Gloria was like “you should make ordinary Barbie”? My first thought was how we have ordinary Barbie already. They’re called the fashionistas lol.
I've said it once and I'll say it again Mattel needs a 12-15$ Barbie fashionista line with at least elbow and knee articulation and more budget spent on the clothes and hair
What a missed opportunity to use classic head sculpts for a special wave of Fashionistas paying tribute. They could've gone with a Superstar, Steffie, Diva, Christie, Teresa and the sculpt used for Jazzy. Honestly, I think that Barbie Rewind would've been a better line to pay homage to the vintage Barbies because they seem to have a better budget and that's basically the whole point in having that doll line. Barbie Rewind probably could've pulled off the original designs as intended.
Fashionistas are so frustrating. They rarely can get everything right on one. If the doll has a great screening, she comes with poly hair, if the hair is beautiful, she has wonky eyes, if the hair is nice and the eyes match, the face is going to be pixelated. I always try to buy them in-store so I can find one I like.
I also thought the new fashionistas were horrific...Millie stood out which is saying something the doll in the star top I like too kinda reminded me of Rihanna
I was thinking the same thing! They're really need to get back to the old fashioned fever dolls of the 2000s! I don't know why Mattel goes out of their way to pretend that that line never happened, but it's foolish! The line had really high quality clothing, high-quality face screenings, a huge variety of nationalities, and definitely a variety and fashion style! The boy dolls in the line were also extremely handsome, and they had rooted hair! I love the Superstar era of dolls, but I have to admit the Fashion Fever line was probably Mattel at its very best!
@@antoinettelubatti1735I adore Fashion Fever but I kinda know why they ignore 2000s dolls, most of the “old” collectors reject playline Barbie after 1999 so everything onwards is completely ignored, also Mattel in the 2000s was in its flop era and they don’t like to bring back anything that underperformed especially on the era where they were battling with MGA’s Bratz, Barbie was on like a 3rd place when FF came out, My Scene was doing better than Barbie
I only recently returned to collecting after a nearly 30 year absence, and the first Fashion Fever dolls are the last dolls I remember seeing at the stores before I returned to collecting. I remember being so amazed by them! As I've looked into dolls recently, the Fashion Fever line really stands out as one of the last great Mattel lines. I love the Basics and Looks lines, but they just don't compare to all the great details of FF
I think the fashionistas line is dying out. They keep producing less dolls in each issue and the fashions have been so stale for so long now…my guess is there wasn’t enough budget for the designers to make these dolls represent the original inspiration doll. They need to either reinvent this line or cancel it. I’ve gone back to buying thrift store and second hand dolls. So many there to buy and customize.
The last doll I bought was Ken, and then stopped purchasing the new Barbie doll after the quality declined. I feel sad and disappointed by the quality. I remember there was Barbie Style, and they were made with the real material, it was the best era tbh. Furthermore, I start to buy the bjd doll from the online shop and quality is better than new Barbie doll. Their clothes are made with the real material and better style.
I doubt Odile could ever become the main Barbie sculpt should they boot Millie. There seems to be an unwritten rule that the main face should have an open-mouthed smile, a precedent set since Superstar 1977. Even the open-mouthed Odile’s expression isn’t smiley enough to come across as friendly, vibrant and - most importantly nowadays - relatable. Her face serves a little too hard to become the face of the modern brand imo 🤷♀️
Totally agree with you! ❤️I also ask why they doesn't use Superstar facemold in the play line? Just pixelated Millie with lack of articulation again and again...🤦You have so fresh ideas👏, you should work for Mattel!❤️
Bratz stans on twt are really funny, like they're always complaining about other doll lines, not long time ago they complained about Rainbow High's face sculps, like girl you only has 2 head sculps and the difference is only one of them showing teeth lol🤣
You know this is a bad wave of fashionistas when the Millie is one of the dolls that stands out the most. Man I wish we got more headsculpts, I sincerely think it's not fault of the designers, but the budgeting people 😢 PS: I wonder if they have the 2009 toy fair headsculp archived, I think that would make for a cute new headsculpt for barbie the only time I've seen something remotely similar used to that sculpt was with the recent spa day doll 🤔
They probably still have it in a vault somewhere but they’d have to 3D scan it in if they wanted to use it and they don’t care enough to do that unfortunately.
@@BarbiesGBF A man can dream 😭 That headsculpt is super cute, it's girly enough to fit barbie but not super inflated, and even it was made for middle/side parting so it would fit Mattel and her aversion to put Bangs on dolls 😞
Thanks for giving your feedback. They could have had a play line of the vintage/mod head sculpts but that is Mattel's cash cow, when they over charge for average dolls. There is a few of these I like, but not WOW. And repeating the head sculpts over and over is getting boring but it's all cost cutting. Other companies seem to be able to produce quality at the price though.
I just took the fashionistas as "bounding" as the older dolls. Ultimately these are playline dolls and are doing exactly what their base purpse is being just attention enough getting for adults buy them for their Kiddos. Not saying Mattel doesn't know Adult collectors exist because why else have dolls call back even remotely to 80s and older dolls but they know what they are doing. It is more revenue for them if they only give Adult Collectors some of what they want in a playline doll and then add the rest in fashion packs or in lines that cost a bit more like the Looks line.
The Barbie and the Rockers homage is actually referencing the second year dolls with pink cl9thes and stars patterned on it, while I think the sweater Ken is referencing Picture Pocket Barbie and black Ken is referencing the late Mod era or early Malibu era with his stripes.
I so agree with you. This next Fashionista line is so sad. What were they thinking? What tribute? I have been collecting forever, but I never had an Odile face sculpt so I am really looking forward to these new mermaids to rebody.

"Because it's Mattel, they have to screw something up." True dat! lol. I think it's cool the Great Shape homage was a curvy doll, but would it have killed them to dress her in something you could actually work out it? If they had just made the top a running bra style. I can live with the skirt - I can imagine it being a skort or tennis skirt. These are so boring! Like, did they show a dozen preschoolers with ADD/ADHD the original dolls for 5 minutes then tell them to draw pictures of the dolls? They are so disconnected from the original style. Good points all around! And I'm a big fan of those sandals! I wish he looked a little different from his several recent versions, too (love the hearing aids, though!)
First, and i agree i hate the new fashionistas. I think u could still keep the glam and diversity at the same time! Like imagine a pettite, curvy, tall and such with articulated body! It will save us alot of money for buying made to move dolls! And it will solve our problem with articulation. THey also need to improve their fashions like maybe we can make the dolls have fashion aesthethic,
Me personally I will only be getting the Millie and the twist and turn bc I like the twist and turn face and milkies outfit lol as far as kens I’ll just get the deaf one lol
Sometimes I forget the the original Fashionista line had themes. Honestly the Fashionista line made me rethink what I wanted to collect. I’m tired of buying body donors for $10 pixelated heads in t-shirt dresses. It hurt to see the cute red under dress and realizing they would never give these dolls layered outfits. Just let us pay $15 for articulation & nice clothes & faces (& NO PETS). We are already paying more to customize them anyway. The superstar inspired doll made me appreciate the 2009 version that was a special $3 price to celebrate Barbie’s birthday. Her dress is simple too, but a much better homage. I want an Odile so bad, but I loathe fantasy hair colors & don’t want a mermaid, so I’d only be paying for a head. They are really lovely though.
They did a reproduction of a 2000s Era Barbie. A ballerina movie that released in 2001 I think. They did her dirty too with a pixelated Millie sculpt and to cut corners we ended up with just basic fashionista with bendable limbs. Smh
Where do you get the clothes for your barbies? The barbie in the front with the black top and black polka-dotted (?) shorts has such a cute outfit! Also the barbie with the blond afro.
They’re taken from other doll brands. Those shorts are from ILY Disney Mickey Mouse doll, the blonde afro dolls top is from a Fashion Fever fashion pack I opened up on the channel, and the skirt is from a rainbow high doll.
They're going in a better direction, but they could do SO MUCH BETTER. They're acting like they have to take a snails pace to improve the quality. But compared to the earlier fashionistas from 2015 era even, these are weak designs. And the base dolls all pretty look basic, nothing unique or interesting that usually gets me to buy a fashionista. 🤦 Also, where is the black Barbie in this line? The darkest one does not look black to me, she looks indigenous (which is great) but I'd like them to keep up with the skin tone diversity. The twist and turn one is sadly ironic 😂.
Thank goodness for Angel Kent pulling through with the mermaids. I want more Odile because there's barely any out there. Steffie has been used a ton before, though not recently. But she's available in a number of screenings on the secondhand market, whereas Odile is not. Millie is so bland. They probably could make her much nicer looking, but for some reason, they keep going the plain Jane old fashioned Midge route. Mattel must be making dumb restrictions on the designers, but I think increasing the price a few dollars to make actual clothes and always have good hair and articulation would make the dolls actually worth buying. I've been buying dolls from other brands so much more because Barbie can't compete. I saw a picture of the fully designed 2022 holiday doll, and the dress was gorgeous! A few more dollars to keep the details on the gown would have actually made it worth keeping. The clothes as they were sold on the dolls look unfinished. A nice looking $20 Fashionista is better than a plain bland looking $10 doll that can't even bend its knees. They don't even need to use mtm. Mattel has different types of articulated bodies.
These dolls are garbage. Like, landfill fodder. They can't get a face right, (or rarely) they can't get hair right, they can't get the body right, and the clothes are just as bad. Not a dart to be found anywhere. Perpetual tubes are not clothing. I've unboxed several Cali girls and their play sets recently, and it's enough to make you weep. Fabric bags and hats, adorable, DETAILED clothes designs, gorgeous hair color blends in saran or kanekalon, and the beautifully graceful bellybutton body with its lovely hand position and bend and snap knees which at least made the legs heavy and substantial enough for the doll to sit on the ground without falling over. And none of those dolls or play sets were meant for collectors. They were ALL meant to be played with by children. I think people have forgotten the quality we used to get less than twenty years ago, or maybe they're too young to remember. But it's a travesty, and Mattel is a giant, sucking hole in the universe absorbing all that is good and beautiful and spitting back detritus and expecting us to be apologists for them and thank them for their shit dolls.
I am too lazy to make a video like this one but I enjoy them a lot. :) I do want the twist n turn one and the two O mermaids. I just now hear they will have saran! This just hyped me up more for them!
Oh yes, after the Tons of money Mattel has been making with the movie, a liitle more interesting clothing and accesories would be too expensive, I guess.... :D
Yeah, they need to hire a new designer who actually likes fashion. These clothes are so boring, sometimes straight up ugly. The reason other fashion dolls become more popular among children is because their clothes are detailed and aspirational. The Fashionistas look like they belong at the dollar store.
Just paused the video to state at that line of homage dolls and i'm not seeing the references, the striped swimsuit has been done and better. oof. you're going to have to point out the references because "so subtle" even fans can't recognize them.
Ps, your knowledge is incredible AND Mattel missed a trick with these fashionistas. The Steffi facesculpt would have been EPIC! If Mattel spent a TINY bit more, adult collectors would have snapped these up. Not me tho
Honestly, the only thing the modern fashionistas has going for them is the diversity angle. Other than that, they’re fashions are all cheap, horrible and outdated. Bring back Fashion Fever.
thank god the mermaid dolls hair is saran...anyhow i ll not get fashionista dolls oly kens i ll get....shame on mattel aft getting profit frm the new barbie movie...still dolls r cheap!! dollar store dolls oly better thn thz 🙄🙄
You should have the Barbie Extra 2 doll and the pale Odile head sculpt girl be fans of Share Bear. And honestly Mattel should strive to improve more and more otherwise Doll Collectors won't feel as inclined to get any of them. Also, are you going to review any ILY4Ever dolls and/or fashion?

A nice looking $20 Fashionista is better than a plain bland looking $10 doll that can't even bend its knees. They don't even need to use mtm. Mattel has different types of articulated bodies.
Surprisingly, the Milie one is the best one in this wave for me.
🤗🎈🔥😍🔥❤️ fashionista Barbie doll from 1959 look's
Loved this video !
Where did you read or hear about that this fashionistas would be inspired of this dolls? thanks
On the box they have the picture of each doll they’re inspired by
Love your too Mr Honduras 🇭🇳 ❤
the dreamtopia millie is actually cute. I might get her too/
Lmao i think i know who that odile- bratz stan on twitter🤭 but i do hope u get the odile barbies tho
What if, Odile is the next barbie face?
Oh yes, after the Tons of money Mattel has been making with the movie, a liitle more interesting clothing and accesories would be too expensive, I guess.... :D
Just do the reproduction of these dolls
Where’s the fashion 😭
Yeah, they need to hire a new designer who actually likes fashion. These clothes are so boring, sometimes straight up ugly. The reason other fashion dolls become more popular among children is because their clothes are detailed and aspirational. The Fashionistas look like they belong at the dollar store.
Just paused the video to state at that line of homage dolls and i'm not seeing the references, the striped swimsuit has been done and better. oof. you're going to have to point out the references because "so subtle" even fans can't recognize them.
You are such a beautiful man!❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
😝😝 Sometimes its just good to get it off your chest.
I’m going to get the Asian mermaid barbie
Please can we rub our beards together?
Ps, your knowledge is incredible AND Mattel missed a trick with these fashionistas. The Steffi facesculpt would have been EPIC! If Mattel spent a TINY bit more, adult collectors would have snapped these up. Not me tho
Khuntier😂 lol
Omg please marry me!!!!
Let’s go
Me first!
I might in the future! I love their fashion!
Barbie Fashionista are my favorite
