I'm a person who never leaves comments but i have to say I sure love the content of your channel. From the building of many things, the animals and the cooking keeps me a regular viewer. Love your channel !
Thanks Deedee!
Hope is the cutest goat ever!
Hope's little jump up and turn just made my day! Looks like little man isn't letting the boys push him around! Have a great day!
He's been living with the girls, so he's toughened up. 😄
Hopes been full of spunk lately. Love it. Little men seems to be enjoying it with the boys.
Door down on chicken apartments =No eggs in boxes.. .. best check the floor and under the coop
Watching you interact with your animals says so much about how you care and respect them. The energy on your homestead radiates through the videos. "You guys are more a blessing to all.of your viewers then you know " thank you Al, Gina and Olivia. Have a blessed day. From Ontario Canada.
Gosh I can’t get over how big Hope is now it’s like just yesterday she was a lil kid
good mornin Modern steaders!! I look forward to sayin that every day w/ my coffee beans!! Love yur channel!!! Hope is my Fav Goat!!! Blessed be yall!! Brian- Nor Cal
Everyone has told you what you forgot but I have to say, you are human and it happens to the best of us (forgetfulness that is)love that everyone seemed full of spunkiness and little man seems to be enjoying being with the boys and holding his own.
You brought back a memory of my first construction job Al. I was framing a wall (the old fashioned way with nails) and the foreman yelled over to me to stop and came over and put a pencil mark at the bottom of my hand. He then sawed off the handle at the mark and told me since I wasn't using the handle to get the leverage for swinging correctly I didn't need the whole handle LOL. He did buy me a new hammer a few days later.
I'm so impressed with Gina's shop ability lately I can't praise her enough. Well done Gina !!!
I have been following your videos for some time and I must say, Al, you are very good in producing the videos, and keeping interest up, and I really enjoy following your projects. You seem to have a great imagination and definitely have a plan for developing your homestead. I like the way Gina helps you and how both of you share the cooking and homesteading chores. Your channel is my favorite of all the homesteading channels, keep up the good work.
I agree!!! Every morning with coffee for over two years for me...you said this so well..
Man you cat is the best. He never stays in the warm house lounging. The cat love the outdoors just like the dogs.
My husband made your goat feeder and I love it! Thank you 😁
Hope, my beautiful fur ball! I'm so happy that Al, Gina, and Olivia love and appreciated you.
They couldn’t get in you forgot to raise it in the morning. Might want to check inside NYC😅😅
I was thinking that too lol
Everyday I look forward to watching your videos. You never waste anything and you always find ways to take a pile of junk wood and you build something useful. I praise you 100% on making the farm shine. You and your wife build things together and your daughter lights up when she sees something new. I see your videos as educational and a wat to inspire others to do the same thing.
Nooo. It's budda bing, budda boom. Just got it backwards, is all. LOLOL Gina is certainly the handy helper in the workshop. Watch out Al. She could be working at taking your star spot on these videos. I love how you address every animal on the farm. You can sure tell you care for them.
Take a few empty, plastic milk cartons and cut them into 4-inch strips. Staple along the length of the runners of the new feeder. Slides over snow and grass as slick as snot on a doorknob. Easily replaced when worn out.
All's next gadget the New
DeWalt DCN701N-XJ Compact and cordless stapler
BoscoBob hahahaha I thought I was the only one who used that disgusting expression! Too funny. I get such odd looks when I use it, so I'm careful of whom I use it around. LOLOL Thanks for the chuckle tonight!
Your family will like quinoa better if you rinse it first. Just like rice, put the quinoa in a fine strainer and rinse well, then add it to your broth. I was surprised the difference it makes. I rinse it even if the package says it's been washed. ❤🌅🌵
Definitely need to rinse...it makes such a difference.
Thanks, I didn't know.
It is so nice to see your small farm grow and grow one by one. Greetings from Germany.
Good morning! Sir, for as many screws as you use have you ever thought of getting the 25# container. Then use the smaller container you already have to carry them around. Just thought it might be more cost effective.
Thank you for bringing us along on your journey, and for letting me see Hope and the other critters of the Lumnah farm 💞
Gina, do quadruple vigorous rinse on the quinoa, it helps remove that weird taste. Also, it makes good breakfast or desert pudding, cook and then make like you would rice pudding.
Great tip 😊
Yes very hard on taste buds & stomach if not rinsed well! Can make you sick.
Yes, it is important to wash quinoa first.
I want to say that I look forward to your videos. I wake up early in the morning, go to work early, and watch your videos. It makes my Monday, Tuesday, etc. mornings. It is a blessing and I thank you and your wonderful family. Chris.
Thanks for showing the license plates...
You are a very good carpenter
looks to me like the chicken flap was down in the roost position.
That’s what I saw too.
@@ebudrow1 Me also, egg box door down. check inside NYC
@@shawnmcpeak7329 Just told my wife he needs to check inside the coop.
I thought so too.
Same thing I noticed when he said no eggs! Poor chickens 🤣
Tat is going to be an awesome hay feeder..especially when the babies come in Spring. Lots of room for every body. Supper looked delicious. Y'all have a Blessed day.
Margaret Bedwel, but they will want the same spot! LOL
@@patmaier6917 that's true...they will all be at one end.
Love the way you all work as a team. True family effort and spirit. But most of all, how you all know were your blessings come from. G -D Bless you and your family.
I am amazed at the things you build Al. Everything serves a good purpose, is well thought out and built. Love the things I have learned watching you! Thank you to your whole family, YOU are a true blessing to US!
Gina is a Boss with that drill!!!!
It has been an amazing experience watching you guys through your homestead journey. I hope you keep making great content and continue to grow your amazing channel. Also great to see you pray in your videos. God Bless.
can you write down the list of material, the cuts, I would like my husband to make this please. thanks.
As much as your chickens may like those asparagus stems, they would make a delicious asparagus soup. Around here it's pretty darned expensive no matter what time of year. I simply use my vegie peeler to remove the tough outer skin, then simmer with a bit of onion, salt and pepper in chicken stock until tender. You can either blend in your blender or with a stick blender. A tiny bit of cream and a few asparagus tops for garnish, and it's soup! Yumm!
Your building is a thing of beauty Al and Gina! Y'all make awesome stuff together! Love and zen hugs from Texas!
Morning guys! Absolutely love the building! I can't wait for warmer weather to be able to get out and build some raised beds for the garden🌱! Yummy dinner recipe sounds delish!🙏💞👊
I think it would be a good idea to cut a slot in the right side of the radial arm saw table so you can install an adjustable stop for shorter boards. That way your helper won't have to measure every one. You could also add a tape measure next to the slot, might take a little trial and error to get the measure right.
Nice build .. can't start our day without watching Lumnah Acres :)
Go to your local farm store and buy some Fencing Pliers, it's probably the handiest tool you can have on the farm. Their not just pliers but have a hammer/wire cutter, fence staple puller and some even have a regular screw driver at the end of the pliers handles. Get the best you can as this tool will last a lifetime. Ask the store owner which one is best. Good luck with your work and homestead. Their also good for tightening up fence wire pole to pole.
Quinoa is great cooked then added into bell peppers for stuffed peppers. Yum.
Al it's ok everyone forgets!🤣 Gina you are doing so good being infront of the camera and your building skills are getting stronger daily! I'm so thankful that y'all are taking us along on your journey.
If you don't have livestock, asparagus ends and many other scraps are great added to homemade soup stocks and bone broths. In our kitchen, we'll boil the asparagus ends and then use that broth to make the quinoa, we also add a little butter.
Cool beans, Al! And carrying 5 2x4s! When you were taking them into the workshop, I thought how proud you and Gina must feel with the high quality workmanship of your structure you two made. Yes, soaking/finding quinoa seems to take the bitterness away.
Great job. You guys do fabulous work.
Yes! We need to build one of these for our sheep! I’ll add it to our to do list lol
Very good job to finish but it looks very nice you are still good work so keep it up and I’ll keep watching I’ve been watching for a long time God bless
After many days away from you tube, I'm back on schedule. I did go back and watch all the past videos. Love the smokehouse and look forward to seeing it get lots of use.
Are you going to build another feeder for the 2nd lovers outdoor area? You should plant some evergreen trees between the road and goat pasture. Obviously out of goat eating reach. Plant 2 rows close together so as to be a wind/noise break and with 2 rows you can harvest multiple trees a year for treats to goats/chickens/pigs and replant for a continuous supply. Maybe along another fence line plant fruit bushes and fruit trees. You will probably need a hay/grain/storage outer building and the spot between the old goat barn and new workshop would be great if you orient it correctly you could have a continuous paddock system and all 3 buildings would be close enough to connect with either covered walkways or just a longer lean-to roof. I can't wait to see Olivia's family farming/homesteading.
Did you forget and leave the nesting boxes closed off?
Quinoa needs to be rinsed well before cooking. It has a bitter coating. That's why a lot of people don't like it. Al, check the INSIDE of the coop, you didn't open the nest box door for them this morning! That is going to be a fantastic feeder. Now you need to add chains to hang it from a tree like Kevin on Weed Em & Reap! Blessings to all.
If you drill a hole in the skids from side to side you can use # 9 wire to make a loop to hook a chain to. The eye bolts work but may pull out as the wood ages. Wires pretty cheap too.
I love when things come together, especially when dinner time you bless the food
Brother you are bless. Not many of us men can boost that our wife gets up early to help out in the work shop. Hell man I'm on the job putting up kitchen cabinets and my mine at home sleeping.
You are sooo smart, you can make anything out of wood, Wonderful,
You need a roof on the new feeder to keep the rain and snow out. Also in NH, where you are at, I would expect that you would also find it raining goats!
I love how the goats follow Libby where they're going to get their hay even though you're the one that's carrying it... LOL 😊
They just love her so much and vice versa 💜💜💜
Lori Sanford Livvie, short for Olivia.
@@cathiwim oh...thank you so much for letting me know, I'm embarrassed now all this time I thought her name was Libby 😄
Thanks again 🌼
Gina I like it when you call the evening meal Supper . I always have and always will. Never heard of the Lords last dinner.
Looks like your going to have yourselves an awesome hay feeder!
AL, Do you draw up plans for your building projects? It appears that you just wing it. If so, you are a very skilled man. love watching your builds.
sometimes I sketch out the project other times I just go with what I have for an idea.
You guys are such good builders and I'm learning a lot from both of you :-)
How about a roof over the feeder to keep out the water from rain and snow? Make a nice project. I enjoy your videos very much.
I agree, it looked like the roost was blocked. I can't help but think of my brother's chickens every time I see the New York chicken coop. Can you please check under it for me? My brother's chickens liked to lay eggs under their chicken coop. Tim's chicken coop was on skids. It was fun trying to sweep the eggs out from under it.
As for the other chicken coop - greenhouse. The first year, my brother built a similar chicken coop for his chickens. He had hay bales layered 3 high. I do not know how but his chickens hollowed out 2 nests between the 2nd and 3rd layers. It took 2 little girls (4 year old Abby and her sister, 6 year old Amber) to discover their secret hiding place. When we started digging through those hay bales we found eggs hidden all through those bales. They must have been laying them there over a couple of months at least.
I don't know if you own a welder, but those screw eyes tend to open up when under a heavy load. One tack to "complete" the eye adds a lot of strength !
Y'all doing a good good job on you goat hay feeder so far it look beautiful
Hey Al,
I've seen the nesting box door being closed, so they might have layed the eggs inside NYC.
Maybe a second door opener will solve the problem.
I'm excited to see your perfect goat hay feeder too
Thanks for this video, Al and Gina! We were talking about needing to buy or build a new outdoor hay feeder last night. You have good timing.
that must be why my ears were ringing LOL
Enjoying the build it should work fine. You might want to look inside New Yolk City you might find the eggs.
You need your own sawmill Al.... Lol
Donald Gordon that would be awesome
@@userumbleyoutubesucks2871 No not all, still plenty on their property.
Another great project. Now if you could put a automatic door on the nesting boxes that would be fab. Always a learning curve when homesteading. Enjoy your day!
Another nice project, that feeder is looking good.
Al, what on earth will you build next? can i make a sugestion? how bout a large car port at the house so you and Gina can park under, an no more cleaning snow and ice off the windows!!
Lol Hope your silly with that spunky dance!
Good mornen modern steadier.
Yea rained here in Iowa I fell as I walking my dog he kept pulling me.
Not raising the board in the morning=no eggs in the evening
Al, the wood w/o a skin over it to protect from the environment. Consider oiling it every year to help protect it. Consider infusing this oil with hot pepper, cinnamon, and boron. The pepper to deter the goats the others to deter from termites. The oil for water.
Like others have said, the privacy door was down inside so the hens probably laid their eggs inside on the floor or outside under NY City.
You can eat the white stalk, you just need to peel the white back until you get to the soft center.
Nice feeder love that 2x3 steel you can pick up old racking from Home Depot or warehouses and save a lot of money.
I am an avid follower of your channel, and love your videos. I just love the whole package you have between the building projects and the feeding and caring of your animals. However, and I hate to belabour the point, but if Gina is going to continually work in the shop using saws and drills etc, can someone please get her a headset or earplugs? Loss of hearing is no laughing matter. They even make headsets in pink just especially for the ladies. Al wears his headset all the time.
As much as I love the idea, you might want to do a bit more research on Hemlock. The splinters from a hemlock tree is extremely toxic..if you get stuck by even the smallest sliver, you will fester up like crazy! Not sure if this is true for goats perse, but for us, it is an experience you wont soon forget. (Worked at a saw mill for several yrs up north.. that sh!ts nothing to play around with lol)
Gina needs a mic when she's prepping food at the kitchen counter. We can barely hear her.
Plus she is a mumbler....
I could hear her just fine.
I think Gina is becoming much more comfortable speaking on camera.
@@kathytebbett8398 Kathy if you are a news viewer your comment can be somewhat understood. But please know that Gina is agreeing to do something that she is not comfortable doing. We all want more of Gina's input and I believe that a little encouragement and practice and Gina will be just fine. I don't know what Al uses but he does a great job speaking . I am sure he can help.
@@dofornow1 Does a go-pro have a mic on it? If so, that's why we can hear him well, because he's almost always wearing it on his head.
Nice job on the project!
I’m liking the design for the new hay feeder. I’m sure you’re liking having a workshop. Last year at this time, you were building the PPM out in the cold. Keep up the good work! 😎👍👏
thanks, I keep reminding myself how blessed we are to have the work shop this year and thinking back to building the PPM in the driveway last winter
Quinoa is delicious if you make dressing with any oil, juice of 1/2 lime, a little white balsamic vinegar, 2 tbsps cilantro, tomatoes cut in cubes, cucumber cut in cube as much you want, salary cut cubes as much as you want, salt, peper and cumin. eat it cold.
Al, the inner door to the nesting boxes was down. You may want to check the floor of the coop.
New goat feeder looks really cool! Can't wait to see it done and if it helps save you guys some cash on hay!
Gina, THAT looked DELICIOUS!
Hey Al , have you ever thought about giving you chickens apple cider vinegar in there water. Just a little and give them some elderberrys . Your chickens will be so health. And produce more eggs. Just a thought. Hay feeder looks so good.
Love me some Lumanh acres.
God bless you and your family and your homestead,♥️🇺🇸🤩
I think Al you could use a metal cutter and make the squares a little wider for the goats neck. I wonder what if they got stuck???
Placing a piece of metal on the bottom of your ski's will help in keeping longer
check inside the coop!....I cook quinoa with rice ....nice blend...
Little Man settled in pretty fast with Zeke and Caleb.
I'm wondering if putting the eye screws into the inside faces of the skis would be stronger since they would be perpendicular to the pull and less likely to pull out if the sled gets stuck or frozen in the ground.
That's some seriously dark maple syrup.
Olivia, the goat whisperer! Love how all the goats followed her down to the pasture. Too cute. The feeder is looking good and will be nice to move around as needed in different areas. Supper looked yummy Gina, I love quinoa-gives me a rice taste as I love white rice, but not good for me. Little Man is holding his own with the big boys.
Gina, screws will go in faster and firmer (no driver bouncing on screw heads) if you place your left hand on top of the drill and push down. Give it a try.
Nice hay feeder
Great video guys lol!
You two are one mean building machine, "do you have a screw", "one", "perfect". I bet that wasn't staged!:) Lol
Hope is such a happy goat...
Have a great evening ⛄⛄⛄
Dude you gotta' get that door to the new addition done so you aren't having to bring wood through the milking room. Maybe a sliding barn door with locks? LOL
I don't think the chickens could get to the nesting boxes because it looked like the flap was still closed. Did they end up laying eggs somewhere else in the coop? Just a thought.
I like to bake asparagus with just a splash of lemon juice and a light covering of fresh shredded parmesan cheese
Before you pull the existing unappealing (sorry about the pun) apple trees, you might consider cutting down to an appropriate stump and graft on varieties that you might enjoy more. A good strong existing root system would get you apples sooner than new bare root trees. You could even graft multiple varieties.
Love little hope
