@Free Speech I think Dr. Leo advocates that there are cover boards set above the whole colony, that way when you open the lid the hive it is still enclosed. You remove these small boards only over the area that you wish to inspect, this ensures that the disturbance to the bees is minimal. You can check for honey and leave the brood intact, or you can uncover only one or two frames at a time and check each brood frame without disturbing the whole. The use of follower boards is also advantageous. Check out some of the long langstroth hive management videos, they explain it very well.

I see that most every time you push a piece of wood through the table saw, it gets hung up on the lip of where the miter saw is/ goes, I have a idea of how to stop it, take a small piece of metal, aluminium or steel, 2 in wide or so, put a slight bend in it and mount it on the left lip, reaching across the saw while its running is some bad juju, project is looking good!!!

Failure? what have you failed at? Maybe some hot dogs and breaking your countertop, but that's not much! things are looking pretty successful up there IMO. Best Wishes!

A & G -bee hive perfection! If you don't have same drawn-out comb, you might consider Better Comb by BetterBee One or two frames per hive will help your new bees get a head start at building brood. Frederick Dunn has a good video explaining its value for new hives.

I hope you paint your gorgeous hives! I think I read it’s a good idea to paint them different colors...so bees can easily recognize their hive? Is that true? Gina is so creative...I bet she could have fun doing something like that with yours! Also...I think I’ve seen on bee hives that are similar to yours they put some thin slats on the inside...so when they lift the top to access and inspect the hives, they can just lift the slats for the area of the hive they are inspecting, rather than the whole hive at once. Will yours be similar...will you also be making slats to lay across the top? I’m new to bees...but have been watching lots of UA-cam videos to learn about them. It will be so much fun to watch your two new hives this year!

Nice looking beehives. It's amazing how much bees do for everything that blooms and grows. I haven't had Shephards Pie in a long time. Gina, have you ever tried cheese in it? You add it after the meat and corn, cheese then potatoes. Pretty yummy. Thanks for sharing. Always fun to watch. Be Safe

Maybe some metal sheet pans could work and instead of oil you might think about using diatomacious earth. The hive looks wonderful hopefully the bees will to. Have a great day!!! :-)

Did you include Red and White clover in your pasture grass? This will help with your bees and nourish the soil. Also, don't take down anymore apple trees until after blooming.

In the UK we put grated cheese ( usually Cheddar ) on top of the potato. when making Cottage Pie, Shepard pie and Fishermans pie.

Hello Al, I was watching your bee hive build and noticed you put three entrances into it. You should only have one at the end. You need to make a separation board that drops in like your regular frames. You can move it to enlarge their space as they grow. You might want to make a queen excluder also. This will make harvesting the honey easier for you because you don't have to worry about finding brood in your honey frames. Just a few thoughts to share with you to help. I love your channel and watching your projects and the animals and your family as you all share your little journey called LIFE. May God bless you and your family.

I did a year of learning German in High School, one day we asked our teacher to teach us some swear words in German - Scheisse, it's the only German word I remember, because that was the only lesson which was fun ... or not scheisse.

If it was me I'd pick-up the hay off the ground and put it back in the feeder . Hay costs money . Sure maybe the goats don't like eating that hay off the ground but when they get hungry enough they will . People forget who's the boss . The animals or the owner .

Confused dot com Shepherds Pie is usually made with Lamb, the alternative made with Beef is usually called Cottage Pie (at least that's what it is in the UK)

Time for Gina and Olivia to do their art work on the bee hives. A bee expert on Doug and Stacey said 'bees love coloúr' they use it to find their bee hives. The hives look lovely, well done. Though I think i would perhaps use some of that gauze and the triangle at the end of each end of the roof I would tack on then no other unwanted wasps or bugs can get in. Gina that cottage pie looked lovely, wish I could smell it through the computer screen. Have a great day.

Just wondering.... should the hive roof be open by sides? Won't the bees then will go in there?
Maybe cover those sides with mesh, so they can't enter, but the air can circulate under the roof?
    Just my 5 cents...

Don't forget to cut slats to fit on top of the honey frames . They lay on top of the frames in the same direction as the frames and cover the entire length of the hive and are between the frames and the top. Watch the video of Doug from Off Grid with Doug and Stacey, where he is setting up his new hives like yours . You will see the slats that I am talking about. I really enjoyed watching you build your hives. Bees from Saskatchewan should survive where you live as Saskatchewan generally has really cold winters.

Thank you for your wonderful videos - I haven`t seen many faults on your part :-) I think you and your family are doing just fine! I agree, however, that it is a good thing to just try again if you do not make it the first time you try. Often it just takes another try. Many regards from Sweden!

i saw on weed em that hope has a birthday this month. Danelle is going to breed Hopes sis in may, so they will miss the hot summer. but fern is ready now to breed. so hope should be too. can't wait to see Hope's babies too when you choose to breed her. your 2 little ones should be ready in a few months also. will those 3 have your fall babies so you can have milk all year round? I know hope is not that much older than your girls, because I was thinking back then she would have someone to play with. I can't wait to see the new babies in the spring, and I hope all 3 got bred. your going to have so much fun milking 3 goats every morning, but hopefully enough milk for all of you. I love watching ya'll in the morning and Happy Birthday Hope. Hope has had a lot to deal with in her short life but she is a spunky little thing. how many other goats can say they road a plane lol. what kind of goats are these? and what kind are you looking for? their are so many people out there on youtube raising goats too. Arms family are raising kiko goats and hidden heights has kiko and pigmy and Spanish goats. there are more but those would be worth looking at too. I like how your connecting the channels too. helping one another with different viewers. keep up the good work.

I'm very interested in what you're doing, I want to keep honey bees, but I too live in super cold climate! If this box works well, (and it looks like a great idea) we will try it too, one day!
