- Let's talk about how to make money with music on Twitch.
The typical process of making money with music would be to get hired for video games, license music, movies, advertising spots, or other media projects.
The typical process of making money by releasing your own music would be on Spotify, Apple Music, or all those other music streaming services out there.
There are other ways of making money with music.
Ever thought about not just start making money once your track or album has been finished, but also how to make money while writing music. The best way to do this would be during a Twitch or UA-cam live stream.

Hi Alex, maybe you've covered this somewhere already, but I'm only new to following you and the world of twitch in general, so,
Would you be able to give us an idea of the setup involved to effectively stream to twitch like you do please?
Camera, software, audio routing, overlays etc etc.
Thanks for all the great content 👍
@@johnjoedaly Ok cool, thank you and noted down! :)
ich hab mega Bock auch Twitch zu machen. Ein Vorteil ist auch, dass man direkt UA-cam Material hat
@AJ Suli Thank you, to be honest, I absolutely don't care about it. Most of the time those people ripping my music make a few bucks per month with it and it is way more effective to initiate something so they have to take down their channels. The costs for a lawyer most of the time aren't worth the effort. If you look more closely you could start dealing with this only ... this is the point when you should get back to make music :) Besides that I am some little fart from Hamburg, so who should seriously rip my music :D
Hey Alex, now in mid-2021 how are your Twitch travels going?
I have earned a lot more from streaming on Twitch that I have on any of the music streaming platforms. And you build a more solid community.
Thanks for confirming this! :)
Another great video. This has actually been an idea I've been playing around with myself. Twitch is a very interesting platform. I think the biggest hurdle I'm still trying to wrap my head around is how to make the music making process engaging for the audience. Watching someone play a videogame is much more engaging than watching a screenshare of a DAW. The "content" is already created in the videogame so there's an instant gratification aspect for the streamer and audience. Whereas music creation can be a very tedious and slow process sometimes. I myself make music and find myself preferring to watch someone play a videogame than to watch someone create music. I bring all of this up to just say that I think this is all a great idea, it's just a matter of finding the best way to make it engaging/exciting :) It's kind of the same concept of watching an exciting movie VS watching someone labor for hours editing that movie. Most people would prefer to watch the finished product. Again, great video sir
May main tip. Don't think too much about it and just do it! You could arrange everything and appear as the most entertaining person on this planet, then you start streaming and nothing happens. What works and what not will only be told by time :)
@@AlexPfeffer very good point!
Great video! Very interesting to learn about, I may give this a try! Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much, good luck! :)
Very hard to watch because of the constant editing , thank you for the info Alex
Thank you so much! I heard the other way round many times too. Very hard to watch because of no editing and leaving all uhhs and rests :) I can't make it right to everyone.
And again a very interesting and really helpful video from you. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you Martin!
That was inspiring! )) thnx
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
I'm guessing the two dislikes on the video are from Soundcloud? 😛
Hahhaahhahahaha!
Einfach Top! Du bist eine super Inspiration! Sag mal, was für eine Kamera hast du da? Ist das eine Sony Alpha?
Hey Hanjo, danke Dir! Ja, das ist ne Sony 6400 mit dem Sigma 1,4 16mm Objektiv
hmm, some of my tracks take months to make, hard to show that off in a short space
Hey Gavin, even if one track takes around 3 months to do, this would mean 12 live sessions all in all (assuming streaming once a week). Talk about what you did in during that week, talk about some of the libs you have used or the plugin. What the struggles were, how you came up with melody x or rhythm y. Try to get a little rough concept together and you will realize that mixed up with a few questions from people watching, you even got content left from one session for the next 2-hour session :)
@@AlexPfeffer yeah it makes sense... I guess I would also probably find the video/twitch recording very distracting. Sometimes you really need your full attention. I suppose you could record yourself and just not reply to the feed as people comment. Also, their comments could really intefere with the creative flow if you aren't careful. It's not a bad idea though, not sure if it'd work for me. Personally I Think maybe I'd take the strategy of just uploading tracks with interesting images in the background to UA-cam. Try and build a following and then sell things like lessons or tutorials or even your music itself if people are willing... Patreon etc might work also
@@mrorange159 I mean it's not like you are filming yourself 24/7. We are just talking 2-3 h per week! :D Just don' t think too much, just do it! :)
Thank you
Nice!
Thanks man! 🥰
@@AlexPfeffer Thank you too!
I have a Query regarding youtube videos. Suppose I am reviewing a Kontakt library by playing sample library and will show people that these are samples u can get with this kontakt library ,example PANDORA, WILL IT BE COPYRIGHT ISSUE?
Sorry I can't quite follow. You want to, for example, show Pandora in a video and tell people that this is a sample library they can buy?
I would be worried about people stealing my music.. 🙈Is there any kind of protection against it?
Tbh I wouldn't even care about it. In all these 17 years only a few people tried to steal my music and it was exposed almost a few days later. Most of the time the damage is that small (like just a few bucks in sales) that it's not even worth it to get into a lawsuit. It's not even worth the energy to think about it.
@@AlexPfeffer ahh interesting, thank you for your reply! 🙂
thanks
You're welcome!
Thanks for sharing Alex. Great info as always! I would love to see a video about how you approach a twitch live stream (whether you come up with an outline ahead of time, what topics or activities you might want to cover in a stream, etc.)
Thanks! Noted down! :)
Thank you for this insightful and motivating video. There is nothing better for an artist to be appreciated for all their hard work and dedication.
By the way, I assume you are German - so on a personal note:
Vielen Dank für das Video! 😄✌️
This sounds interesting and also fun, so thanks for putting out the idea! Could you please elaborate on what setup you use (hard- and software) and how do you cope with latency? How do you stream DAW content, picture and sound in-sync and without delay? Thanks!!
There is always a little delay with video so you gotta make sure to add something like 80-100 ms to your audio tracks. Depends on the system really. As for software and hardware. I would recommend getting into Streamlabs OBS or OBS live. Depends on what you prefer. SLOBS is easier to use, OBS live more resource friendly.
Great video brother, keep up the good work! 🙏
Thank you so much!
very interesting. I'm checking twitch as well for my tutorials on synths and plugins.
Can you do a video describing more about twitch platform and monetization such as how does it work what limits etc
Thank you, sure thing! Noted down! :)
How can i join the twitch kindly.
Why did you stop streaming on twitch?
Currently got lots of work and private things happen making it a bit difficult. I will definitely catch up again once things go back from crazy mode.
You can start making money on Twitch right away? Or do you need to meet certain requirements first like here on UA-cam?
You can start making money on Twitch right away. The only hurdle is that you naturally can't grow your followerbase only because of being online on Twitch. You may want to drive traffic from YT, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc to your channel. Technically you could start right away and someone donates you a grand ... but, you know ... slowly and steady would be the best attitude to have :)
@@AlexPfeffer Thanks, Alex. The reason I asked is that I thought you needed to first become a Twitch affiliate or partner in order to start earning. That has changed? When you said in the video that you received a payment from Twitch, for what exactly did they pay you? Just for streaming a certain number of hours? The money came from advertisement revenue?
@@ScottGarrigus I think you have to become an Affiliate for subs, that's right, ... but this is not really something that is hard to achieve. Technically you could receive donations right away. As with everything, I wouldn't focus on the money straight from the beginning. Getting used to the platform and the rest will come with the flow. It is, however, not as hard as with UA-cam. My payment was a mixture of ad spots, dontations and subscriptions.
@@AlexPfeffer Thanks for the additional info. I appreciate it.
@@ScottGarrigus You're welcome!
I love this! I'm super inspired. Thanks!
Glad I could be of help. All the best! :)
Well looks like I’m gonna start streaming on twitch!
I cannot imagine anyone wanting to watch an amature composer such as myself trying... yes trying... to make good music. :)
I know what you mean but you have to let others decide if they see you as an amateur. I suck at keyboard playing, only one ear is functioning and I can't even speak 100% correct english. Do I care? F*ck no! I do it :) Also please keep in mind that it doesn't really have to be teaching, showing and presenting. It can also be just a part of a journey. ALL that matters is personality and being natural.
There must be something you know and can be interesting for others.
Actually, why not start streaming and people like you can relate and see how over time you improve. Every time you learn something you can share with your community.
I started my channel little more than a year ago and I learn new stuff every day and share.. it does take time and work.. but if you don't try.. you will never fail.. if you never fail.. how can you learn?
Thanks guys. I have thought about the possibility of posting a video when I find how to achieve something in Kontakt, for example. But I don't have any camera stuff, so I haven't thought seriously about it. I know I can use a phone as well. I'll have to investigate the specifics on making more than a silly ant video....

@@UDiAudio Hi :-) first i want to thank you for your video (streaming with OBS an Voicemeeter). I also try to grow my Twich-Channel and plan to stream at the next days. Don't know if you saw the video from @Alex Pfeffer where he shows a new way to route your DAW-Audio to OBS WITHOUT the Voicemeeter stuff ! It's totaly easy and works realy fine. This is the video : ua-cam.com/video/tj54m6vl38M/v-deo.html
cheers, Andreas ;-)
I appreciate the video. It wasn’t clear to me what the Twitch check was for? Was that from subs to your channel or from your music? Did other streamers pay you to use your music.. or did you receive royalties from performing your own music on channel (or play in background during stream?). Thanks!! 🤘🤘
Nothing to do with music on Twitch. All money from donations, ads and subscriptions.
@@AlexPfeffer Awesome!! Thanks for the quick reply!! Greatly appreciated! What’s your twitch name?
@@ShredGeek alexpfefferco - however, currently I can't stream. Will get back to it as soon as there is more time.
@@AlexPfeffer Great thanks.. subbed anyways!!
Twitch evolved beyond being just for video games, any content of value will find an audience there
absolutely! It's the future ...
