I used to love those 15 ft in the air booths. I've been on the fence with Twitch because I feel like it's possibly a dead end. But mixcloud just isn't great for growth so I've been considering trying twitch out. Thanks for the perspective. Even if it turns out to be a dead end, it does sound more fun at the moment.
Hi Nick ! Loved your video ! I wanna try it so bad but as a non professionnal DJ, aren't they some copyright issues and risks of getting a strike or ban in doing this on Twitch or UA-cam ? This is what prevented me to do it until now....
Fun video, lol! I’m a 45 year old mom of 3 and I’m on Twitch! I spent 10+ years DJing in nightclubs, on mixshows, and in the wedding/event industry before kids, it’s amazing that I get to DJ from the comfort of my home now after the kids are asleep! I’ve been delving back into vinyl, mixing house on vinyl and doing some older stuff on 45s!
Im sorry. Thats lame. When I told my family I was getting set up to do a DJ Twitch stream my wife and stepdaughter both went "COOL!!!!" and immediately downloaded the app and followed me. I thought I was gonna catch the eye roll but they were super supportive. My 5 year old son was even pumped for me.
I've actually learned how to DJ on twitch I totally agree with your first point... PRACTICE! It's definitely interactive feedback and I've learned so much within my dj community on twitch and some of them are where I'm from in NJ. I'm actually moving back because I want to finally pursue my dream of becoming a working DJ and your videos have been a huge inspiration thank you for your content!
Thanks Nick! The thing that was holding me back was the fear of making a mistake live and you made me realize that's not a bad thing actually I'm going to look forward about making mistakes 'cause that will give me an opportunity to talk and making mistakes once in a while will be part of my show.
Thank you for posting this Nick! I made a Twitch account last fall, but haven't gone live yet. Appreciate you giving us all the motivation. Your channel and content is much appreciated. #Salute
Ive always loved the challenge of getting positive crowd reactions & encouraging participation without a mic. This is simply listening as much as playing. I know songs or recordings that say everything I could possibly want to say anytime Im entertaining and its fun to communicate that way. Im maybe an extra music geek style of dj and know a ton about music. But I feel like bumble bee from transformers by recycling whats been recorded and using it to communicate. Thanks for the new perspectives on twitch. Im one of those that has been slacking on getting this going I needed a reminder. Practice alone reason enough for me, Im always practicing or at least listening to new material to add to my toolbox why not share some of that. Thanks again your channel is great
This is the video everyone needs man. I have been clubbing and dancing since I was 14. I'm now 47. During lockdown all the clubs closed and everything went dark. A lot of my friends that were in teh DJ biz had to adapt, and twitch helped. As a result of years of being pestered, I'm tossing my hat into the ring. Do I think I'll make money? eh. My wife just automixes some tunes too. Whatever. We bring the cats on camera, lots of people love that too! But your point of 1) practice and 2) there is a niche....absolutely. Are there friends who probably get a few extra subs becase they're good looking? Absolutely. But what stands out about any o them is that they have fun and love entertaining. The cost of entry isn't outrageous, esp if you have some of the tech laying around. Nice job!
I know what you mean, man! I've done a few live streams on Twitch and there is that adrenaline pumping up as the stream goes one. Yes, it could be scary or discouraging to stream to nobody but you need to be patient and have fun, let the music drive you. I'm resuming my streams by the end of the month, that will give me enough time to understand the platform and add some nice and fun stuff for my viewers.
I’ve done the twitch thing on and off. Played with doing music videos, just audio, etc. In jumped all over the map musically, stuck with one format or whatever I felt like. Just not having success with views.
Thanks Nick, I’ve been on Twitch DJing for a year and got discouraged, but your video helped want to try again. I’m not going to get caught up on how many people are watching.
I opened a Twitch account months ago to watch a certain DJ because FB enjoyed kicking him (and other DJs) off. From there I have watched MANY DJs. I have met LOTS people along the way. The reason I have not streamed... I don't have a camera or the proper/cool technology to do so. 😔 Plus I don't understand all the points and emotes. Thank you for this video and your Tuesday stream! 😉😊
i come from the old school of djs just working in the booth out of the way.If they did their job right they were invisible and i have to say thats how i liked it .Thats why i never showed my face on youtube posts of me mixing because it was not about me It was about the music. When i dj online now its with video so no one has to look at my old face.Video gives me another way to express myself while retaining that old school feel of being in the shadows working rather than throwing cake into a crowd.
Nick great video. I dj every Saturday 10 pm to 11ish on MIXCLOUD. Reason being I never get muted and I can play just about anything. Only negative getting people notified to join me so what I do is start my LIVESTREAM on fb or ig at the same time as MIXCLOUD. People always check in I shout them out, i dance like a fool but i love it. Also MIXCLOUD saves the MIX with all my shout outs and i go back and listen. Every Sat is a different vibe Deep house, edm, club freestyle, latin music all types, hip hop etc etc. NES ENTERTAINMENT@MIXCLOUD stop bye everyone and see what a terrible dancer I am. Oh yeah by the way great video Nick lol.

Once I start the dance, it’s all about the mix and keeping the dance floor happy. Just signed onto Twitch this last Friday to watch a friend of mine DJ. I’ve been asked why I don’t do it. After seeing this video, I’m considering it. Send out a link for your Tuesday Twitch mix. Thanks!
I love watching your vidz, man you're hitting the nail on the head. Thanks for the insight and I'm getting motivated to do live streams sometime soon. Thx for the great points bro
hey nick another important question is there any copyright issues on twitch plz let me know . this will be my first time live stream so before I do just getting my ground covered.
Another great vid of absolute jewel dropping.... Listening to you talk all I can think was I bet this guy is hilarious and fun in person to drink and shoot the shit with...
Thank you man for this video. I think one of my biggest fears is judgment from other djs. I've been DJing for over 3 years now weddings parties etc. Just a local guy who likes to show everyone a good time and party! I just love Music 🎵.... It is everything to me. But you got legends DJing and live streaming, and I don't know it's a little intimidating😳. LOL but I realize I just got to be me and my audience, is my audience; and I just got to have a good time. Appreciate you bro!
I was one of the guys that responded on Facebook on Brian’s post. I was suggesting more guys to try it out. You’re right, I’m far from a club DJ and not necessarily a wedding DJ either. I was kind of intimidated at first because there are some amazing performance DJ’s on Twitch. I love music tho, all genres that aren’t always the popular songs or DJ friendly. I guess I’m like the small bar DJ that plays indie songs every once in awhile. I’m povertydj on Twitch, just a funny name. I agree with you, I think it’s so fun! I’ll check you out! What is a DJ if he can’t scratch.....LOL. That’s me. The unsexy mobile DJ.
Hey Nick , I watched Brian's video the other day and I definitely understand where he stands . I been wanting to get on twitch but i am not computer savvy and been trying to set up my page. Yes I watched your video about it 😂😂
Finally went live this past Saturday (started on twitch, the fab, end 4hr set on IG it was great but annoying at the same time IG shut me down a few times lol”
Thx Nick ! I feel as a older DJ I would not fit in the online DJ world so my channel is just sitting there. Plus wedding clients ask all the time if they can see me DJ so what the hell Im gonna try it !
I think I’m going to start doing this. I want to start doing UA-cam videos but don’t know how to create the intros and outros. I have a windows video editor I can use to piece it together but it’s the other stuff.
a dj friend of mine dj's on twitch and has a huge following. he averages 250-500 viewers per stream. he said he makes about $700 just for djing on twitch.
I totallty agree, IG and the other FB platforms make it hard to stream them days are done, Twitch will let us be free the only thing is getting people to convert over is the issue, people are addicted to their fave social media and if you dont meet them there they are hard pressed to change,
Hey Paul! How long before you get booted? I haven't done a live stream on FB since October. My sets got booted after about 30 min playing house... are you still doing them up to now?
I’m going to look into it. I’m curious what you use to record and get quality sound? Do you use an iPhone and some kind of adapter that you connect from your mixer/controller? I hope it’s not a dumb question. Lol
I've been on the fence about this as well. Great points on all of this. Only one thing that bothers me. Practice is spelled wrong!!..lol. Please don't hate me, just a heads up. All your videos are awesome! Thank you Nick.
Great eye opener But I never hate it NEVER ... And make sure I do it every day ( yes once in a while I get into not so timming mood and i step back give myself a break and hit em tables and I'm good) DJ FOR LIFe , cause it is our life ! Thanks for the inspiration ( not that I need a whole lot ) But thanks!! Your going places
I’ve been on the fence about streaming for a little while now. I’ve only been practicing for about 7 months and feel like I still need to hone my skills... do you think twitch is a good place to learn as well or would you suggest getting a little more well rounded ?
Hate the DJ’s that are on the Mic’s those DJ’s should be on the Radio or maybe they aren’t good enough to be on the Radio!! I can see Brian’s point. He’s done his time.. DJing and he would rather give us information and tutorials about DJING.. This is a Great Video!!!
I guess it depends on your style, My mixes are a simple audio journey so I prefer mixcloud and youtube for streaming. I also just put simple graphics and no mic or cameras.
i like to practice but its hard because right now i am set up in the hallway of a tiny flat .I can only really do it when my friend is out and preferably during the day because the walls are not very thick. In my old flat i had more time and more space and the room i was using had thicker walls which were not next to the next flat so i could really let rip.As for my broadcast i only seem to get the time for one broadcast a week and i take that day for myself and my friend goes out somewhere but of course this is not enough.
I love streaming on Twitch every Saturday night 10pm to midnight. I don't even use a camera. I just use visuals from Virtual DJ. I also have Serato but it's crashing with OBS. I barely use the mic. Much like you Nick I just love mixing and scratching and playing fun music. twitch.tv/wiggleitdj
I watch the Twitch replay more than the live stream. Just easier to have it on in the background while doing other work when time permits. I'm shocked people have tuned in to see my stream live.
i hate the fact you're convincing me on this lol - i'm Definitely That guy,, i'm known for rockin' the spot but if i say somethin' on the mic, folks that know me are like " was that Gee .. on the mic??? i'm used to working with an MC at the clubs and events i do,, but why not,, it's Pivot time all around so,, guess i'll give it some thought,, thanks for the break down as always sir,,- you're a dope dude,,-
it seems they dont need me .I have gone nowhere on their site.No one watches comments or responds.Until very recently it was a struggle to broadcast on twitch as my computer needed some upkeep and i didnt have the tools to open up my Mac book so i only broadcast pre recorded shows and that was hard with one dodgy computer. Its been attended to and now i will do a mixture but so far im am hitting my head on a brick wall
I’m only 3 minutes in but I had to stop and comment. I wish everyone appreciated the value of a great playlist. The energy of the music should be more than enough, but in my 10+ years I’ve gotten the most work from gigs where I talked on the mic more and interacted with the crowd. I love getting lost in the mix and I have people staring at me in awe while I’m scratching or juggling, but I don’t get hired soley bc of those skills. My energy, professionalism and reviews play a much bigger role. IMO lol.
Does anyone have a guide to streaming on discord??? I want to practice while i'm hanging out with my homies. Not confident enough yet to stream. I have issues with streaming the audio through discord. I have got it to work if I stream, but not discord. My set up: macbook with serato djm-s11 2x Technics mk3 1200s
I stream every Tuesday night on Twitch, come say what's up!! twitch.tv/nickspinelli
I used to love those 15 ft in the air booths.
I've been on the fence with Twitch because I feel like it's possibly a dead end. But mixcloud just isn't great for growth so I've been considering trying twitch out.

Hi Nick ! Loved your video ! I wanna try it so bad but as a non professionnal DJ, aren't they some copyright issues and risks of getting a strike or ban in doing this on Twitch or UA-cam ? This is what prevented me to do it until now....
How do you get around your streams getting silenced because of copyright claims?
Can you specify a for a german timezone? In best cast for Berlin, Germany. That would be great. Thanks.
Fun video, lol! I’m a 45 year old mom of 3 and I’m on Twitch! Great points here. Thanks for this. 🤙🏾💯
I'm gonna do this THIS weekend! OMG I'm so excited to try this. I can identify...practicing all alone can get a little dull.
Great video! I have been streaming on Twitch for a couple of years now and feel this 100%. Much love

Loved this video Nick just getting into Twitch and this really helped.
I agree, it's a great place to practice whatever you want. Try new shit and play what you don't normally play at your regular gigs.
yessir!!
You literally talked me into it. I'm am no longer on the fence. Thanks for this vid Nick for real! 💯💯💯✌🏽👽
I’m gonna give it a try Nick, Thanks for the advice

Great vid. What is the deal with music copyrite, is it like mixcloud where that is all sorted and you don't need to worry about it?

I'm in the same boat. I don't understand the Twitch jargon lol
You hit all the points 👍🏽👍🏽. I would also recommend streaming on UA-cam as well. There is a bigger audience on UA-cam compared to Twitch.
What can DJs stream? Music from the 1800s? Lol

Nick, this is one of your BEST Videos. I agree with every word you said. Thank you. Please get Brian onto Twitch.
Thank you Nick, I'm glad you put it out there! I appreciate ya and Briansred

I agree.. that yelling on the mic shit gets old after 5 minutes lol
Thanks Nick! How long should you stream a set for? And what is the best time to stream?

This is my concern too. Twitch seem quite tough on licensed music regardless if you have a public performance license.

IG and Facebook are extremely strict. Stick with Twitch
What’s the rules on playing certain songs in twitch?
How do you avoid dmca strikes tho? That's been my main concern for dj streams... but I've always wanted to do it
I’m gonna check it out.
Thx Nick ! I feel as a older DJ I would not fit in the online DJ world so my channel is just sitting there. Plus wedding clients ask all the time if they can see me DJ so what the hell Im gonna try it !
DJ Reece Varnell age is just a # if you have passion go for it! All kind of different DJs on Twitch doing what they love.
I’m a 45 old woman and I’m on Twitch, no such thing as too old!
I hope BSR sees this and reconsiders. It was really well said and I also would love to hear him mix that library in his head of music.
Ey Nick as usual great 👍🏻 video! What about Mixcloud? Another thing, you need to tell me where to buy that black v-neck t-shirt. Respect 👊🏻

Do you get copyright strikes on Twitch?
Not really, they mute the audio on playback VODs but don’t do anything about the live broadcasts

I’ve been on the fence about streaming for a little while now. I’ve only been practicing for about 7 months and feel like I still need to hone my skills... do you think twitch is a good place to learn as well or would you suggest getting a little more well rounded ?
Fun Hangin on TWITCH TONIGHT! I was on my Son Linden's account for some reason hahahahahahah GOOD GROOVIN SPIN! EVERY TUESDAY!
Brian S. Red = THE GOAT!
Pracitce!!! haha. Nice video
Yes! Thank you!
Does twitch mute you like FB and IG because of copyrights?
They mute the playback VODs but not the live broadcasts
Hate the DJ’s that are on the Mic’s those DJ’s should be on the Radio or maybe they aren’t good enough to be on the Radio!!
I can see Brian’s point. He’s done his time.. DJing and he would rather give us information and tutorials about DJING..
This is a Great Video!!!
I guess it depends on your style, My mixes are a simple audio journey so I prefer mixcloud and youtube for streaming. I also just put simple graphics and no mic or cameras.
I'm still not convinced. But, I'll try it.
i like to practice but its hard because right now i am set up in the hallway of a tiny flat .I can only really do it when my friend is out and preferably during the day because the walls are not very thick.
Mac is not compatible anymore for Twitch Studio 😢😢😢😢😢
i hate the fact you're convincing me on this lol - i'm Definitely That guy,, i'm known for rockin' the spot but if i say somethin' on the mic, folks that know me are like " was that Gee .. on the mic??? i'm used to working with an MC at the clubs and events i do,, but why not,, it's Pivot time all around so,, guess i'll give it some thought,, thanks for the break down as always sir,,- you're a dope dude,,-
it seems they dont need me .I have gone nowhere on their site.No one watches comments or responds.Until very recently it was a struggle to broadcast on twitch as my computer needed some upkeep and i didnt have the tools to open up my Mac book so i only broadcast pre recorded shows and that was hard with one dodgy computer. Its been attended to and now i will do a mixture but so far im am hitting my head on a brick wall
Already a wedding dj and burned out on events... I REALLY want to be a fitness Workout DJ! Is Twitch for Me too?
Bro. I lost my shit when you talked about dropping Acid. WWII.
IMO lol.
I am really bad at networking and you have to get noticed in the first place and my stream is like a critically sick patient right now.
Does anyone have a guide to streaming on discord??? I want to practice while i'm hanging out with my homies. Not confident enough yet to stream. I have issues with streaming the audio through discord. I have got it to work if I stream, but not discord.
My set up:
macbook with serato
djm-s11
2x Technics mk3 1200s
You're a nut, but funny and true. Thank you for the good content.
Yup it’s practice practice practice experiment experiment experiment try try try
Preeeeach! Great video!
Glad you liked it!
I’ve been wanting to do this but I need to figure out how to record and with good audio as I stream. I’m lost in that part.
It was sad to see the sadness in B in his video...I've been on twitch for a minute but rarely use it.😫😢
Ok downloading twitch now😅
This was good!
