THANK YOU! Not even the Steinberg product site explains that you can record the inbuilt DSP to DAW
Can you still do that with zero latency?
Gosh. Thanks for this video. This had me wasting hours, trying to understand where the latency was coming from. This is so helpful.
I owe you a beer!!! I've tried on my own to figure this out for three years now (don't laugh/I'm not stupid/well/sorta!) and you just cleared it up for me in minutes (UR28M/Cubase 8.5Pro). A Great Big Serious AF THANK YOU!!!
(I never looked under the "hardware" tab)
You're more than welcome my friend :-)
@@cassmcentee I join you on this one!.
Thank you 🙏 much appreciated.
Very valuable and well explained information.
For the first time, I was able to hear vocal monitors and reverb at very comfortable levels and record.
Thank you again.
I have had Cubase Elements 11 for about 10 months and always thought the DSP was for practicing your guitar playing. LOL Now thanks to this video I see you can record all those effects in Cubase. Cubase is an amazing DAW and has got so many features that I am slowly uncovering bit by bit. 👍👍👍
Can I say, once again, how useful this video has been for me. I had to reinstall everything onto a new machine and your video helped me all over again, Chris - thanks!
Thanks a lot, Chris! I just bought a new Steinberg UR44 interface to (partly) replace my Focusrite Saffire PRO 40, (which has unfortunately become unreliable in Windows 10) and this tutorial is very helpful in getting things set up properly and understanding the full potential of the unit and software. 😊
That's great! thanks for your comment!
Thanks a lot, very helpful !
Glad I could help!
Yes !!!! Yesss Thank you !!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Hello from Miami Fl . I use steinberg and Cubase and is good sound for my Percussions 🪘🪘🪘🎛
Thanks Chris, I just got my UR-RT4 yesterday, and the manual was clear as mud about getting this set up. Thanks to your video everything's running great.
Talking about good timing :-)
Thank you for this very helpful video.
It was the first time I could hear vocals loud, clear with good amplification and reverb while still recording dry in Cubase Pro with the Steinberg UR242 interface.
Thank you again.Great information well presented.
Thx Chris, just got the little brother UR-RT2 and your vid helped me a lot. Couldn't figure out why my effects weren't recorded and it turned out I completely missed the third option! What would I do without you, man!
Just got my UR242 yesterday. This video was helpful. Thanks so much!
how do i install it ? can someone link it please?
Thanks 🙏 clears up the foggy manual !
Awesome info here!! 👏🏽 Thank you, Chris! 🙏🏽
My pleasure!!
Well, I was following your guide today. I don't see the Hardware tab. So, I went to Racks to enable it, but it isn't there. What Cubase product are you using, Chris? I'm using a Cubase AI 10.5.20 Build 179. Wondering if it's a limitation for Cubase AI users and available only in Elements & other purchased/ upgraded versions, maybe? Thanks for your time!
Thanks a lot for this Video!!! These info's had been missing so far!!!
You're welcome!
how do i install it ? can someone link it please?
@@applecrazy1 The drivers come with your Steinberg Audio-Interface. What Interface do you use?
Superb - just what I need after buying the UR44 - at first I wondered how I could manage without a 'mix' knob (which I had on my previous interface, the UR22) so this video has helped me realise what the (much better) alternative is. Now to read the manual!!! :-)
Thank you so much
God bless you
Most welcome 😊
Thank you so much!
Superb video! Thank you, Chris 🖤
My pleasure!
Thank you 1000 times - this answered my question if I can use it without any Daw! :)
Very useful!
Glad it was helpful!
Merci. Tu m'as débloqué d'une situation où je ne comprenais pas le fonctionnement des monitoring hors et dans Cubase. Très bien expliqué
Bienvenue mon ami!
Great! Very informative, thanks Chris. Cheers! 😎✌️
Cheers my friend!
Thank you for this, nice overview. Would be really good to see how to setup a headphone mix when working in Cubase either with this dspmixFX or without. When writing songs at home, I generally record vocals last and my SM7B is very low in volume when recording so I can't hear anything for monitoring during recording.. Im sure there is an easy way around this without adjusting my work in progress mix?
I'm glad I've found your video. I just got my UR-RT2 yesterday and suddenly I remembered why I have never used Cubase with my previous audio interface (I used Garage Band instead...). Thanks to your video, I figured out the monitoring with reverb (but damn was it difficult to figure out how to change the reverb type from hall to room : clicking on the bargraph below? Why not simply do it from the Reverb effect window once it's displayed with the "e" button?). Next thing I struggled with was being able to select a guitar amp for monitoring after I had played with the mic strip channel... Jeez!! If you already set your mic channel for monitoring with DSP effects, you must deactivate it (with that tiny 3 position toggle) to be able to select an amp for your other input (otherwise, only "strip" will be selectable). As I'm now having my DAW on Windows, I'll try to spend more time getting used to Cubase but if it still sucks next week, I'll likely to try out another DAW...
Thanks for saving my day!
helpful thank you sir
Most welcome
Thank you Chris!
BIG thanks ! you help me a lot on this !
You're welcome, brother!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Great info!
I wish cubase had a direct monitoring button on the mix console. I just started recording vocal in direct monitoring in a ur44 after watching your "before" last video. Even though I have very low latency i feel and believe that it give me a better result.
Actually, there is a monitor button on the mix console, that's what I'm using in the video. Glad my other video helped out :-)
I mean the on/ off button the one from studio=>studio setup=> direct monitoring. I know I'm being lazy. I'm grateful for your videos they are very informative to me. Thanks!
Merci Chris!
Slightly confusing, but starts to make sense :)
Great info
Thanks!
Hi Chris top-shelf video again. I have the ur824 and Cubase 9. where I run into issues is when I use my ipad to control my cue mixes when Im in the drum room. It never seems to be consistent with controlling reverb. I would really appreciate a video on direct monitoring with dspMixFx using cues mixes and iPad. I have looked and there really is't much info on it. Keep up the great work!
You use Cubase IC Pro on the iPad or something else?
@@mixdownonline yes Cubase IC Pro on the iPad. It more about gain staging and also can't figure out how to control the amount of reverb on the ipad I need to get up and go to computer to change if you have any ideas please pass it on- I am using it fine just it never seems to just flow. Merci!
Thank you again
I'm interested in seeing your setup in Audio Connections.
Please do a video on setup. I'm really struggling to achieve this on UR 44 C.
I'm planning on making a video on the DSPmixFX of the AXR4 that is the same version as you have.
@@mixdownonline
Hi! Chris, Thank you for making time to respond to this.
Just so you know what my challenges are:
Firstly set up:
1. UR 44 C
2. Cubase 10.5 on Widows 10.
3. 1 mic on Input 1.
4. Under Audio Connections:
4.1 Control Room:
I have deactivated "Exclusive Output" under preferences of Cubase which means Output 1L and 1R are doubled. I put first set of Output 1L and 1R under Output tab (to enable appearance of the DSP panel on the inspector) and I put another set of Output 1L and 1R under Control Room, "Monitors 1" which serves Monitors.
4.2. Inputs Tab: Stereo Left buss, Mono buss and Stereo Right busses set. They all use Input 1.
Problem: Stereo Right audio tracks do not show the DSP panel on the inspector. The DSP panel on the inspector only shows on Stereo Left, and Mono audio tracks.
This means I cannot record fx on tracks that use Stereo Right.
Second Problem: Control Room: the button for "Main" does not switch off when I want to record in the same room. I am forced to lower the volume dial on the UR 44 C when I record, to avoid feedback. With my previous interface, I could simply switch off "Main" on Cubase and the Monitors would be off without having to touch the Audio Interface.
The reason I deactivated "Exclusive Output" under preferences of Cubase is because Output 1L and 1R are doubled wrong it is deactivated. I put first set of Output 1L and 1R under Output tab (to enable appearance of the DSP panel on the inspector) and I put another set of Output 1L and 1R under Control Room, "Monitors 1". This is the reason why the "Main" button on Cubase does not switch off.
Output 2L and 2R are on "Phones" under Control Room. This serves for singer to hear monitor herself when singing.
Headphone Amplifier is connected to Output 2L and 2R for the singer.

Thank you for your excellent use of the dsp-fx.
Please, in your upcoming video for the ur44c, include
The cubase AI 10.5 the mix feature as it relates to the separate mix 1 and mix 2 outputs for individual tracks.
So that the mix 1 is on headphone 1 and mix 2 is on headphone 2.
Thanks again for all your valuable time, efforts and consideration with this request.
Great video. Could you make a video with your AXR4 also on PC ? My Loopback doesn´t work and I dont get any inputs in "Stereo in". Can´t record plugin synths and so on. Have to go out of the box and in again and I dont think thats intended. (?) (Oh - Im on Cubase 11)
I don't understand why anyone would want to monitor the effects and not record them.. This confused me for so long when I used to export songs and everything would be completely dry using UR28M. Thanks for the video.
What do you think about the Volt276 vs UR28M?
Great job Chris! I've been using Cubase for over 10 years and never fully understood the "dot" (change insert effect configuration). Any chance can make a video on the control room and all of its features? I have mine set but not sure what all it is capable of. I need to learn use a headphone mix for the artists.
Yes I can do that. I will add this topic to my list :-)
I believe you can use the dsp reve-x to record but it has to pass through a bus.
Good work my friend. How about DAW, in the DSP settings, is there a compressor/limiter ? These UA-cam videos have so different output audio levels (not you). I keep turning level up and down on my UR44 -> to the speakers. Would be nice if automated, I'm lazy :) I just bought UR44C
Hello. Can we add more plugins in the insert area?
UR44: I thought I'd asked this question and you replied(?)... I can't find it here so...
I understood your DSP info but you didn't mention the two H/phone ins and how to configure them. I think that we need to add an Audio (aux?) track (mon) to hear the mic/vocals in 'Mix 1' and also send all the other music tracks to an Audio/aux/group track so one can balance/blend/mix vocals and 'backing tracks'. Otherwise, only one H/phone can be used. (I loved my old UR22 which had a one-knob 'blender/mixer' but only one H/phone in.. Sorry if I am repeating this question but I cannot find, anywhere, how to do this and even a (dumb?) Steinberg customer service guy told me to send back my UR44 because it doesn't do what Steinberg/Yamaha says it will!!!! Thanks for all the other tips and tutorials; they're much appreciated. (-:
Are you using the DSPMix FX with Cubase or antoher DAW?
@@mixdownonline I use Cubase Artist 9.5 on a Mac Mini
Hi Chris, I know this video is a year old but I have an issue. I'm on Cubase 10 pro, I have a UR44C and I have the dspmixfx installed on my laptop but when I open up Cubase I don't have the Hardware tab in the mixer. Please please please help
Most likely something to do with your audio connections. Open up Studio Setup and select Audio Connections from the menu. Then make sure the correct connections are made.
Very helpful video, Chris! Thank you! Does Cubase offer anything besides compression, EQ, reverb and those guitar mods as part of a channel strip to apply to the signal prior to being recorded? I'm wondering whether to purchase external hardware that includes a saturation and a de-esser, in addition to compression and EQ, so I can record vocals. Thanks!
Hey great video. I cant find the hardware section in my Racks. I use the UR242 interface and Cubase 10.5
It will show on the INPUT Channels only, not the audio channels :-)
How many instances of the dsp can be used in cubase?
Great tips! Is this mic a JZ Black Hole BH2?
I cannot find the hardware rack anywhere on the mixconsole in Cubase 11 for my UR44C. I'm trying to record guitars using the method that Misha Mansoor does using a "Monitoring" audio track and I don't see the hardware rack anywhere to control the fader.
I have Cubase 12 pro, but I don't see Hardware listed in my Racks on my input channels.
How to direct monitor through Steinberg UR22C? As it doesn't have a dedicated direct monitoring button like the focustire's.
I have Cubase Pro 10 and RME Babyface Pro with TotalMix FX. I still don't understand why my Cubase doesn't manage TotalMix FX the same way you do. USB connection. Direct monitoring enabled. What am I doing wrong? or this method works only in your case?
You mean having access to direct monitoring from the Hardware tab in Cubase? If so, this option work with the dspMixFx only. When I work on my Lynx Aurora16, I use the Lynx Mixer to manage monitor mixes.
Hope you don't mind me asking, as I'm getting Nowhere fast with Steinberg. When I launch Cubase pro 12, it's absolutely fine. As soon as I switch on my UR816C, I get the spinning Wheel of Death. But interestingly, it works fine when using Logic albeit on ly one Headphone socket works.
Any suggestions, would be really appreciated. I've done all the usual, like Uninstall everything and then install ensuring the my Licenser etc is all up to date, latest drivers and is compatible with my Mac M1 Mini and Monterey.
In Cubase Elements 12 I cannot see the 3 options for the channel strip, but only no effect or applied both to monitor and recording. Is it an "Elements" thing? Or is it something wrong in my settings?
Nice tutorial! One question: Does anyone know if you can you use a UR interface as an external no-latency FX rack by plugging the channels into a hardware mixer's channel inserts?
Hi! I was wondering if it's possible to use the GA Classics amp sims as Insert FX the same way you use the Channel Strip in Cubase. When I try that, it only offers the Channel Strip as an insert, but no amp sims. I can only load those as standalone plugins.
Is it possible to use internal DSP in Steinberg UR22C for third party plugins (e.g. Neural DSP)?
As always great tutorial Chris!... Thanks for it. I have the Steinberg UR824 interface which has the similar routines as the ones shown in your video. I always use the dspMix F and also the various settings when recording. One question : in the effects I use the engineers settings with a variety of options; eg AK Bass, MZ A.guitar, MR vocal, SH vocal, OK Master, IO drums, TK and ZK settings. Any idea what these abbreviations mean: AK, MR, MZ, OK, TK, ZK, IO?... I have no idea. Thanks for your feedback Chris!
I don't know, maybe short for the name of those engineers? I always use my own naming scheme anyway
Merci. J'ai séché sur ce faux problème de carte durant 3 jours !
Heureux de pouvoir aider !! :-)
Very helpfull
Excellent :-)
Thanks !!!!!
You're welcome!
Hey mate -- cheers for this. What can you do if even after following your steps the hardware option doesn't show up in the rack drop down? I am using the UR824 (with latest tools and driver) and Cubase Elements10.5 and it doesn't want to integrate and give me the hardware option. The dspMixFX app is always running the show and is never deactivated by Cubase. I have access to all the VST versions of the plugins in Cubase but it's not using the DSP versions (except when I assign them as inserts via the MixFX app).
That never happened on my side. I would uninstall all dspMixFx drivers and re-install them and see what happens. If that doesn't work, call Steinberg Support.
Hey Chris - at 10:22 in your video above you get the dropdown showing ChStrip, Clean, Crunch, Lead, Drive. When I do this the only option I get is "ChStrip"... it means I cant select the latency free guitar processors.... Any idea what Im doing wrong? thanks!
Great video indeed. But this just explains how to get the dspmixfx to work inside cubase. Other daws, such as reaper, don't work the same as cubase does in the way it handles direct monitoring, hence trying the same in reaper is really not working in my case :( do you know a solution to this? Thanks in advance :)
Unfortunately I believe it only integrates with Cubase only.
@@derekfromtauranga6012 that is really bad i have to say. trying to push your software by tightly integrating it with your hardware is downright malpractice.
Im using UR824 with Mac os Catalina 10.15.4 got problem, can not found sound hardware in device input or output.. pls help..
Tried this but didn't work! Running the UR44 but so far it's not cooperating at all. Done this stuff for decades but it's very unstable. No audio inputs work when Cubase 12 comes up & it shuts down the Inputs from the UR44. I got it going with the Deluge ONCE but now the Electribe2 isn't even syncing via midi out. Might just go back to Akai - think the UR44 is just too old for Cubase 12. But interesting clip. Have it working before but still won't cooperate now. Followed the instructions EXACTLY. Not sure what's going on. DSP mix works fine but craps out. Audio out is great with UA-cam & VSTs but not line in. Will figure it out - eventually! Might go back to Ableton Live for software mixing if version 11 reads Jbridger for 32 bit plugins.
im very sad that you're not showing here the routing options available with the multiple monitor Cuemixes
@Chris, I cannot find any information how many hardware or virtual outputs are exposed to Cubase in UR-44C. I can see only one DAW channel in the DSP mixer. Does it mean that Cubase can address only one stereo output?
Thank you for great review. I select all rack but can’t see Hardware. Please teach me.
you will find Hardware only on the INPUT BUSS Channels from the Mix Console
Chris Selim - Mixdown Online Thank you so much for your suggest.
Hi Chris, Thanks for the very helpful videos. I'm using the UR 816c in Cubase 11 but the hardware option is not showing the racks tab. any advice on that?
Many Thanks
The Hardware Tab is the old system, with your UR816C you will get a TAB to control the input of your interface on the left zone when an Audio Track is selected and Routed to an Input of your Interface. On my side, the Tab will named AXR4T since the AXR4T is my Interface. Way better than the Harsware Tab ;)
Recently discovered your channel and watching a lot of videos - great content, thank you! Two questions about this and the UR242 (that you covered in another video)
1) In the view at 8:37 you have the DSPMixFX in the HARDWARE rack of the Mix Console. I have this but I have no other options when I click ChStrp - i.e. I can't load any of the Guitar Amp FX. When I run DSPMixFX in standalone the Guitar Amp FX are there and all works fine. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
2) Can the UR242 be used to have a separate Headphone or Cue Mix (ideally to come out the Phones) than the Main Mix? (would love to not have to keep changing volume on my hardware whenever I want to check stuff on my monitors vs. tracking via my headphones.
I want to output audio with send effect but I can't. Audio has no send effect even though listening in DAW is normal. Can you help me ?
Are you using Cubase?
@@derekfromtauranga6012 yes. Cubase 11

Great Info, Chris, very good! I use it now since one month after looking your video. In this context one more question: What workaraound do you have, for (fast) switching the Monitor Button on/off between Recording and Playing? Thats one disadvantage for me with this recording... (Cubase10 - UR-TR4)
Go between the 4 Auto-Monitoring modes found in Preferences...VST...Auto-Monitoring is setup to Manual by default, the one I use when recording is Tape Machine Style. I actually created myself a shortcut to switch between those 4 modes.
Man I am trying to record with the effects and it is not working even though I have it set to the bottom dot...
I can't see the drop down menu that is supposed to show the Guitar Emulations. I click on "ch.strip" but nothing happens. any help?
You need create mono bus input. Guitar amps dont work if you have stereo bus.
"Note that you cannot use the built-in Channel Strip when the sample rate is set to 176.4kHz or 192kHz." (UR-RT4 / UR-RT2 Operation Manual) In the case of the UR-RT2, if enabling the channel strip is attempted while operating at the mentioned sampling rates, an "dspMixFx UR-RT2" dialog box appears stating, "Not enough FX resources." In Microsoft Windows, the "Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver" control panel applet can be accessed to reduce the sampling rate to below 176.4kHz. :/
Thanks for pointing that out :-)
@@mixdownonline Thanks to your video plus knowledge of the sampling rate limitation, I was able to use the DSP channel strip for the first time. I'm new at this stuff. So, please pardon me if you and your followers are already aware. The reverb doesn't seem to be restricted to lower sampling rates. Hopefully this information will save people from some grief. Ideally, customers would be made aware of this issue prior to purchasing the interface. Yet, there is no information about this limitation on the product packaging. Additionally, "MIC/LINE" combo inputs 1 and 2 cannot be used with balanced 1/4" plugs. With the UR-RT4, the same is true but the additional combo mic inputs *can* accommodate balanced TRS cables. The RT2 product packaging is not clear about this limitation either. If one hopes to use the Neve transformers in conjunction with a 1/4" TRS balanced output pre-amp, I don't see how it's possible with the UR-RT2 and, in my case, non-balanced cables are too noisy. Line inputs 3 and 4 on the back of the UR-RT2 *are* for balanced 1/4" TRS inputs but using the Neve transformers with those inputs does not appear to be possible. Selling a 192kHz interface and expecting customers to only use it at 96kHz or lower is not reasonable. I will say one thing nice which is, the "Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver V1.10.3" release notes include the statement, "Added a selection of 32 samples to the buffer size setting of the ASIO driver".
I have clicked on RACKS but it doesnt say hardware anywhere...Anyone help?
You weren't very clear on the usage of compressors on the master channel, this would greatly enhance the listening experience for me in windows, since I do not know of any software that can add compressors or limiters in windows.
How can I get this as a download on my pc?
Hi. Thanks for your video. I am a happy urrt2 user but i currently have a problem that i can't solve alone : i use the entry number 3 (one of the line input on the back ok the interface) for a Yamaha vl-70m synth connected to a wx5 wind controller. Lately i lost a lot of output (about 50%) level while i was turning the morph button in the channel strip plugin. I was very surprised because it worked perfectly before. But now i can't get the right monitoring (and recording) level... It remains very low. I tried to uninstall and reinstall all the tools for ur-rt2 but it didn't change anything. Can you help me to fix this ? Thanks. Franck Alcaraz.
How to use loopback function so I can record my Cubase and OBS to create tutorial?

@@mixdownonline That would be really welcome. At least for me. UR28M. Thanks.
Hi Chris another great video! I was wondering do you use a track pad or mouse if so what kind? Thanks!

Thanks Chris!!
I don't understand how to use this with Reaper. Reaper has access to the URC channels but is that the same signal as what's in dspmixfx? How do I add effects like gates or eq in my DAW and have it "heard" in the direct monitoring?
Same problem here :( heeeeelp
Great video sir! I just got my UR22C and this video will help me how to use dspMixFx effectively for my recordings. Please do help my channel. I just started it. Thank you. 🙏 God bless.
If it want to record drums and use my UR824 DSP for my cue mix (EQ etc) AND, simultaneously, have my guitarist plug in his guitar into my interface and use a VST amp sim to hear him, this is impossible in Cubase, right? Because I have to enable direct monitoring which.. well, it skips vst-effects when monitoring a track. The DSP amp sims are really not good enough.
I had no problem with a cheap behringer mixer with combining onboard dsp monitoring AND vst effects. Do I have to go back to the behringer?
sad that dspMixFx standalone cant be used when using Cubase. I dont like using hardware integration at all in Cubase
Hi man . Just wondering ,there are so many discussions about audio dropout issue in ur c series and yet nobody is talking about it in UA-cam .how it's going with yours ? Does it work fine ?
Can you use the effects throug audacity ?
Interesting! I have DSP on my Focusrite interface but never felt the same presence using their included reverb as I do using VST FX inside Cubase to monitor myself while tracking. If my PC is fast enough to give me live VST effects while tracking (with super low latency), is there any other reason I'd want to use the DSP ones and get absolute zero latency?
Personal preference at this point :-)
I think the main reason to use this (apart from sweetening with the reverb) for me is the built in latency free compression on the channel strip - it really helps me with my singer as he will always hear himself loud and proud no matter how far I am into the mix and how many compression plugins I have added to the various channels / group channels / master fader.
It's also nice to use Cue Mix on the subgroups to give the singer whatever he needs without affecting the master mix balance. With Control Room you can check his mix on your own headphones - the UR824 supports up to 4 different cue mixes.
@@realraven2000 I'm interested in your response. My Focusrite also has compression and EQ (in addition to the Reverb) which I can enable. It never occurred to me to turn it on but I guess that explains why I don't sound as "loud" and "live" at home as in the studio. What is a good live compression setting to put for male pop vocalist? Also, will this DSP compression be "captured" and printed by Cubase in the recorded take?
I am not sure about your Focusrite - I guess it depends on how you set up the mixer application. As Chris demonstrated with the Steinberg UR interface it is actually integrated in the hardware strip and you get a choice of insert or cue mix. I think for tracking 2:1 compression is probably good but it obviously depends on the kind of compression; personally I wouldn't print the compression [by default I bet it is only a live setting, so you do not go through your channel and potentially other compression plugins which may introduce more latency - it works best when applied to the cue / direct monitoring shown at 6:10 - which means your voice comes directly from the interface not from Cubase] in case I can come up with something better (I have a ton of compression plugins) - just dial it up however your singer feels comfortable and take a note of the settings?
Hello, Chris: with this card or, for example, the UR-44C, is it possible to have the direct monitoring in other physical outputs, for example 3 and 4? In this case, where in the card software is that adjusted? For example, I could have output 3 and 4 with a cue mix and wanted to mix that with direct monitoring for someone that is singing. I ask that because in my card I can have direct monitoring only in the main outputs and headphones, but direct signal is not present in outputs 1-2 and 3-4. Outputs 1-2 are almost a replica of main outputs, but only the lasts can have direct signal too (there is a mix knob that allows to mix DAW+direct, but this only works for main outputs, the 3-4 get only DAW signal).
My rev X is always on, I can't click the green button to turn it off, how do I fix it?
Thanks for video I noticed that when the direct monitor is activated the control function looks disabled is this correct.
You're welcome! What control function are you referring too?
@@mixdownonline Sorry I meant to say the control room function on the right of the screen.
Thanks for this Chris, I have a UR824 for a few years now with Win10 and cubase10.5 now and the dspFX work great. BUT - I would LOVE to be able to monitor with minimal latency while using a better gtr plugin (neural dsp, TSE, etc...) and even at minimum buffer settings I find the latency unusable... but I see people using this type of plugin on UA-cam all the time but without the latency...any suggestions?
The people you see on UA-cam will have latency but it will be very low. You have to make sure thst your buffer size is low to get lower latency when monitoring with plugins from a DAW. But lower latency will be harder on your computer. Do on Studio Setup, slect your sounf interface, click on Control Panel and bring your Buffer size to 128 or less. Experiment with this :-)
@@mixdownonline Thanks... One question relating also to this video above - you know the 3 or 4 guitar amp processors (blue, yellow red...) that come built into the dspMixFx - is there a way to access these in the hardware strip? i.e Id like to plug in a DI guitar, monitor using one of these and simply record the clean DI... thoughts?
Hi Chris, I have a question. I'm planning to buy the UR44C and I'm wondering the following:
Do we get any latency in the recording itself if we record vocals onto a fully produced track at 2048 buffer size in Cubase using the settings you just showed? I understand that there's no latency in the input signal but what about the recording itself? Would it be in sync with all other tracks? Thanks.
Is it just me, or does the reverb sound worse when used as an insert effect, as opposed to the monitoring reverb?
Not suppose to, it's the same plugin...Never worked with this reverb in mixing though.
Good day. can you please advise me how to install dspmixfx software? I have a Steinberg UR44C sound card. I downloaded the software from Steinberg, but I can't find it anywhere on the PC :( I would also like to use latency-free recording as you show in your video. Thank you for your reply.
For the UR44C, it's not the same dspMixFx shown in this video, the new version is way better so lucky you ;) If you installed all drivers and software from Steinberg you should have the dspMix fx installed as well. Click on the Strat menu and Search for dspMixFx and you will find it
Nice, but I got a little lost once you got to the routing. You have a stereo in channel with no hardware control up top, how come? and the mono-in 1 seems to be automatically routed to the audio-1 channel, or did you do that beforehand? When you demonstrated making sure the mon button is activated, I don’t see how the signal gets to audio 1 when there is no signal showing..? I’ve used Cubase and have recorded several songs by trial and error on this section, but this routing part still throws me. Thanks
The reason why I have 1 hardware is because my stereo bus input is using the same input (1) as my mono input and you will get one Hardware per physical input. The Hardware is made to monitor what's coming out of your sound interface inputs. Basically, the Hardware is the equivalent of a channel we see in the Mixer version of the dspMixFx. So if you have a 2 channel interface, you will have a max of 2 hardware instance in Cubase. Hope that helps!
You see no signal showing cause at this point in the video, I'm zoomed in ... Yes I did set up my track before shooting the vid
Do any of the DSP effects include an expander/gate?
No
Thank you for this video! I have a little problem, I can't see the hardware tab in "racks" :( Interesting thing is that, at the same time I have UR44C tab in the inspector in project window :o Do you have any idea? :)
Hardware will not be listed under "Racks". It will only show up when an input is created and will show on the "Input" Channel section of the Mix Console. BUT you have the New UR44C, I don't know this one, but from what you're telling me, the UR44C you see in the Inspector will do the same job as it did before with "Hardware". It's the new way Steinberg works with DSPMixFX on the newser interfaces. Works this ways as well with my new AXR4. Do forget about the Hardware Tab and use the UR44C Tab insted. Hope that helps!
@@mixdownonline Thank you so much for response! I find tab in project window less ergonomic then in mixer like you've shown, however, good to know that it's not some issue with the hardware. Thanks again! 🙂
@@PiotrLYRRE Anytime my friend :-)
