  • Demonstration of the Roland SH-1000 synthesizer with Roland DEP-5 FX processor.
    The monophonic Roland SH-1000 was the first synthesizer from Roland - and the first synth of the SH-series! It has a surprisingly good basic sound. The filter sounds like a 24 db one. You have many waveforms with many footages, wich you can switch on simultaneously. A very underrated synth - as you can hear...

    Love it. just imagine playing this back in 73, you'd think the aliens had landed, and how do you get such a big sound from a small box. great demo.

    Had one of these-mid seventies-did all kinds of things with it- including bass lines in a country-rock band when no bass player showed up (!)

    Love the sound of these first gen synths like the SH here and Korg 700 etc Very unique and deeply under rated.

    Sweet sounding synth. The SH-1000 is a classic piece of Roland/synth history. Introduced in 1973, it was the first instrument produced by Roland, and probably one of the first compact affordable keyboard synthesizers in all of Japan.

    haha! best 135 i ever spent ! a guy comes into my lawnmower shop and was talking about his band . .i mentioned i play and record everything but drums .. he laughs and says "have you ever heard of this stuff called "ambient music" and "there was this guy who started it all called brian eno'.. i held back my laughter and the he says.. "hey maybe you want this synthesizer i got in my garage .. it looks like an organ but its a roland" leaving my "cool card " at home has paid off.. great demo.. ..

    Great job, you pulled some fantastic sounds from that. I had one of these in the early 80's, was a great little synth.
    What a difference to the overall sound you made, by adding some delay/echo !
    Thanks for posting.

      The delay/echo makes a big difference to the output.
      The one I had was only hooked to a Roland amp with revo, I couldn't afford the echo systems of the day.
      Sold it for an electric piano so I could go back to playing chords.

    I heard some people say some pretty bashful things about this synth. It sounds pretty dang good though, I dont know, maybe its not the synth thats good but the guy thats using it.
    GREAT JOB, MAN!!!!!

    Great demo of the SH-1000!
    I bought mine used at a musical flea market for $50 sometime back in the late 1980's! I enjoyed it for several years and used it for demo recordings and jam sessions! It was accidently knocked from its stand and busted up in the early 1990's! : ( I eventually sold the pieces to a neighbor for $25!

    No, the first instrument produced by Roland was the TR-77 rhythm machine in 1972, followed by the TR-55 and TR-33, all in 1972. The SH-1000 was the first self contained keyboard synthesizer by Roland and Japan in 1973.

    • @NickSBailey

    • @Jupiter4Alphs
      @Jupiter4Alphs 2 роки тому

      They are almost all a little different.
      SH1000 diode based ladder filter
      SH2000 the moog clone
      SH5 multiple filters
      SH2 BA662 same as earlier Jupiter 4
      SH101 IR3109 the Juno filter, more 80's smoother sounding
      to name some, they all sound pretty different ...
      SH1000, SH1 and SH2 are my favs

    Yo Tenía este mismo sintetizador, pero vaya, pues lo vendi en 50 dolares y apenas pude deshacerme, no sabia que ´se podía hacer cosas tan fantásticas, ni sabía que era Stereo, los sonidos que sacaba eran feisimos. en fin paciencia, apenas pude lograr un saxo regular y una zampoña, paciencia. Este demo es buenisimo y muestra que el Roland Sh, (una sola voz) tenía muchas posibilidades.

  • @jwillyb870
    @jwillyb870 5 років тому

    My question is, how much of this is the actual synth and how much is the effects processor? It's sure adding a lot because the synth all by itself isn't making all those crazy sounds... I've heard these many times and without any added effects they're super cheesy

    I bought one of these and it turned me into a non-fan.
    Try playing it dry. The synth has no FX in it. It has a passel of preset voices that are mostly useless without a lot of FX. Did I mention that the synth has no FX on it? As in no delay, reverb, and whatever else you've got going on there.
    I also had tuning problems with it. It was unstable to temperature changes.
    So, OK, enjoy it as a piece of history. As someone who owned one for live performance use, IMO it was next to useless to me. I gave it away.

    • @AnalogAudio1
      @AnalogAudio1  4 роки тому +1

      Did you really expect a multi FX section with delay, reverb in a monophonic synth from 1973 ?? :-D
      Back in the day effects were added in the mixing process, and they were all analog, big and expensive...
      I wouldn't say a synth is useless without effects. You could anytime add your own and much better ones. Back in the day, synths were like vintage cars or vintage mixing consoles: they had less features, but the really important ones. And if you were a good musician (not a noisemaker), you could do great music with it.

  • @ariahrendt6166
    @ariahrendt6166 8 років тому

    Mostly we only hear good delay and reverb FX. Not the synthesizer. Because the pure sound isn't that impressive. It's just the added FX.

    • @AnalogAudio1
      @AnalogAudio1  8 років тому +11

      +Ari Ahrendt how impressive would sound the finest electric guitar pure? Without any treatment like effects or amp? ;-) Well, on most recordings, synthesizer were equalized and mixed with effects in the studio. It's also the case with voices... The FX alone would not sound that good :-)

    While effects can make any synth sound good, it's not a fair representation of it's true sound, which, IMO, is the purpose of a demo.

    • @AnalogAudio1
      @AnalogAudio1  8 років тому +13

      I made some kind of piece of electronic music to show you an example of what can be done with the SH1000 in hands of a musician. In my opinion that's the purpose of a demo video. And I felt like adding these effects.
