    I have made the Houston to Austin run a thousand times on a motorcycle. I would have never tried it on a 100cc scooter. I love these videos. I used to ride 25 miles to high school on I10 to Wilcox,AZ on a 120cc trail bike. That was dangerous enough but, I was 15 and invulnerable.

      Yessir... I rode the Navi from Katy to Austin and back in one day. The total mileage was ~300 miles on mostly rural highways, but I did have one 20+ mile stretch on Hwy 290. You can use Google Maps or Waze for routing, but they don't always honor the "no highways" and "no toll roads" options. Several of my channel viewers have recommended the ScootRoute app on Android because it prefers bicycle routes.
      Let me know if you have any specific questions about the trip, and I'll be happy to help! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      It is interesting that they didn't just go straight to 4 litres instead of stopping at 3.5 liters. Or mayb they just didn't care about it and only worried about aesthetics.

      Not yet... my Navi is bone stock so far. I do have a spare OEM carburetor sitting in a box that might go on my Navi if I can ever find time to restart that project.
      I planned to install a wideband O2 sensor in the exhaust to monitor the air/fuel ratio before I started any tuning or mods. The exhaust header on the Navi is about the size of a soda straw, so installing the O2 bung will be a trick. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Even if they put a new carb with the brass EPA b.s. plug in/on. The ranches and farms outside Austin are gorgeous. • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  10 місяців тому

      Yes, the engine loosened up after about 800-1000 miles and seems to run better after that. The fuel economy didn't improve much for much Navi, but I suspect the carburetor isn't adjusted properly from the factory, so it runs too rich all the time.

    I don’t think the Navi is meant for the cannonball, mileage and top speed is not great when not loaded down. When loaded for the cannonball it will be slower and less fuel efficient. The wind will also buffet the crud out of it when you are loaded down. The PCX is the bike for it, unless you pick up an ADV.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 роки тому +3

      If I decide to ride the Navi in the SCBR, then I will start with a fresh set (both front and rear) and carry 2 spare rear tires on the trip. Front tires rarely wear out or get punctures on these long road trips. Rear tires take the abuse from acceleration, braking, rider weight, and any luggage or other carry-ons. Rear tires are also 5x more likely to get a puncture because the front tire kicks up the sharp debris and the rear tire eats it.
      I haven't finished researching or testing any tires for the Navi yet, but that will be coming soon. I'm looking for something that has some knobby tread, but not too blocky so it still wears well on the highway. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Congrats on your new Navi! The fuel bottle holder is an agricultural "tool tube" (manual canister). I purchased a few of those from Agri Supply a few years ago. Here are the links for the bottle holders:
      - Amazon: amzn.to/3VbRtcL
      - Agri Supply: www.agrisupply.com/manual-canister-lrg-new-style/p/67670A/
      - Cycle Gear: www.cyclegear.com/accessories/dryspec-tool-tube-kit?sku_id=964439
      The inner diameter of the tube should be 3.0-3.25" so the 30 oz (887 ml) fuel bottles fit inside perfectly. I use the MSR 30 oz (887mL) liquid fuel bottle:
      - Amazon: amzn.to/3IqdZM4
      - Bass Pro Shops: www.basspro.com/shop/en/msr-fuel-bottle-for-camping-stoves
      - REI: www.rei.com/product/783963/msr-fuel-bottle-30-fl-oz?sku=7839630014
      I mounted the tool tube on the side of the factory rack with heavy-duty black zip-ties. You can see a close-up of the mounting at 1:14 in the beginning of this video. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  9 місяців тому +1

      No, my Navi is completely stock except for bolt-on accessories (e.g., windscreen, rear rack, etc). It settles into a "comfortable" cruising speed of 46-48 mph at ~70% throttle. Wide-open throttle yields 52-54 mph under ideal conditions, but the fuel economy takes a huge hit at those speeds. Wide-opne runs are counterproductive for longer cruising (more frequent fuel stops):
      ua-cam.com/video/eq6u9-E9vwc/v-deo.html
      However, I have recently installed a set of Dr.Pulley 12g sliders in the variator. That improved the acceleration and overall smoothness, but the top speed is unchanged compared to stock... still 52-54 mph depending on road conditions. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    My question New rider on long trip on a 50cc is half throttle. Consistent or left out it every few minutes?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 місяці тому

      @doingitbigent If you have a modern 4-stroke engine, running at ~80% throttle indefinitely shouldn't be a problem. If you have a 2-stroke, then you need to be careful with extended full-throttle running, which can seize the piston from overheating or insufficient lubrication (usually on closed-throttle deceleration).
      Most modern 4-stroke engines have ignition cut-off circuits to prevent over-revving the engine. Water-cooled engines can withstand high-rpm abuse (and usually last longer) than air-cooled engines of the same displacement. Good luck, and ride safe! 😉👍 --QM

      My round-trip distance was 310 miles over about 8.5 riding hours at WOT (wide-open throttle). My average speed was 48-50 MPH while traveling with 20 MPH headwinds on the way to Austin, and then fighting 20 MPH headwinds on the return trip. The Navi burned 4.75 gallons of fuel at a total cost of $17.75. Average fuel economy was 64.14 MPG, with a low of 58.11 and a high of 69.13 MPG during this torture test. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 роки тому +2

      Greetings from the USA, and congrats on your new Navi! That black plastic lever on my throttle is a Go Cruise throttle lock (cruise control): amzn.to/3P11KXD . It's a simple tension lock that rests against the front brake lever and holds the throttle in a certain position.
      To set it, you roll open the throttle to a desired position and then press down on the lever with your index finger. To cancel the cruise setting, you simply roll the throttle down against the resistance of the lever. It's a real sanity saver on long road trips. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

  • @XoaGray
    @XoaGray 2 роки тому +2

    I know the Navi you've been riding has had fuel milage well below what Honda says it should the entire time you've had it. I also remember you at one point saying you needed to get the carburetor worked over. It's entirely possible I missed it, but did you ever do that? If not is that possibly still part of why the fuel milage is so low? It just seems like the discrepancy is enormous. Honda says 110, and you're getting as low as in the 50's. That sounds like there are major issues somewhere, or if not, Honda is just outright lying about the fuel economy.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 роки тому +2

      I haven't worked on the carburetor yet. I did the first 600-mile service myself instead of taking it to a dealer, but I'll probably visit a dealer to see if Honda will cover the carburetor adjustment/verification under warranty. Otherwise, I will pull the carb and drill out the welch plug so I can adjust the A/F mixture screw and reset it to factory defaults (or at least verify the adjustments to be in-spec).
      I will probably re-jet the carburetor when I start modifying the bike sometime soon. I plan to change the intake and exhaust, so that will require a different mixture setting anyway. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on my progress so they can decide whether to try the same mods on their Navi's. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Question your Navi was giving approx between 45-50 mpg, but internet said it gives between 70-90 and the Honda page says it gives 110 mpg who can I trust, I’m thinking of buying one btw

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 місяців тому

      Honda's claimed MPG figures for the NAVI aren't even close to real-world, which is a shame. Honda's claimed economy for other scooters and mini-motos are fairly accurate if not understated. For example, my PCX150 was only rated at 100 MPG, but it actually gets 115-125 around town.
      The NAVI's fuel economy really suffers at speeds above 40 mph, which covers commuting tasks just about anywhere in the USA. This trip was a torture test with the engine running near full throttle all the time. My NAVI seems to be less efficient than others, but the community average is about 70-80 MPG under real use cases.
      Good luck with your shopping, and I hope you find a good fit! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Have you thought about taking the Navy on the scooter cannonball 2025?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 місяці тому

      Yes, I even considered the Navi for the 2023 Cannonball, but I didn't have time to work on the upgrades and creature comforts before that adventure. To make a successful cross-country trip, the Navi would need a larger fuel tank (or a LOT of auxiliary capacity in fuel cans), a variator upgrade to get slightly better top speed/economy at highway speeds, and a stronger rear rack to carry spares and camping gear.
      The two main drawbacks for the Navi will be its limited top speed (50-53 mph best case, probably 45-50 mph average on flat ground) and it's fuel range between refills. The Navi's 0.9-gallon fuel tank and the mediocre economy (~70 mpg highway) means it will require a lot of feeding. Another consideration is the high altitude portions of the trip crossing the Rocky Mountains. I would plan to take a second carburetor that is jetted for high altitudes so I could swap it relatively quickly instead of fiddling with jets and needle positions.
      I'm still tempted to take it on the 2025 Cannonball, but I'll be riding with a few other riders with faster scoots. I don't want to be the limiting factor in the group, so I'll probably ride my PCX150 or maybe the Super Cub in '25. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Рік тому +1

      That's the steering column lock. It prevents the handlebars from turning at all... locked toward the left side. Most motorcycles have that integrated into the ignition key. However, some scooters and larger cruisers (including my 2021 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT) have a separate keyed lock on the lower portion of the steering neck. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    How do you think the navi will do in the scooter cannonball run

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  6 місяців тому +1

      Howdy, Ron! I think the Navi could do the Scooter Cannonball, but it would be painful, brutal torture. The Navi's top speed is only 51-53 mph under ideal circumstances, so realistic average speeds across the USA would likely be in the 45 mph range. That makes the long highway stretches dangerous, and some of the inevitable stints on fast highways (or interstates) inadviseable. Mountain climbs will be very slow, and the altitude might wreak havoc with the carburetor. I have a spare carburetor that wold be jetted for high altitude; swapping the entire carb would be easier than pulling the jets on the side of the road. Even with those challenges, I wouldn't mind giving it a try.
      However, the two biggest problems that I anticipate with the Navi for long-distance touring are the following. First, the fuel capacity and economy is terrible... only 0.9 gallons at ~65 MPG at wide-open throttle means it needs refueled every 55-60 miles (reference at 1:39:55 of this video). Converting the lower storage box to a fuel cell would resolve the range issues, so that's my plan if/when I decide to take serious trips on the Navi.
      The second big challengewith the Navi is stability in crosswinds. The Navi has a 10" narrow rear tire that causes it to twitch and wobble A LOT in crosswinds. We had a hard time wrangling the PCX150's with 40 MPH crosswinds in the 2023 SCBR, and I'm certain that the Navi would have been off the road in several of those occasions. Upgrading to a larger rear tire might help the Navi's stability. I'm considering the 12" rear wheel upgrade (install the front 12" hoop onto the rear hub and use a wider, low-profile tire). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    I’ve been wanting a Navi but scared to purchase one because I’m in San Marcos, 60+ highways each way. This inspires me!

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 роки тому +1

      The Navi can handle back roads and rural highways with moderate speed limits. However, it struggles to maintain 50-52 MPH most of the time... it's "happy speed" is around 45-47 MPH. You can alter that speed by upgrading the variator weights and the clutch assembly... maybe up to 55 MPH top speed. Higher gains would require engine modifications like intake, exhaust, and other tweaks to make more power. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    The rack is a joke, also it has only two mounting points. Most rack have 4.
    Love the Navi but there's a few things that will keep me away from buying one.
    What can make this little scooter better; a 125cc fuel injected engine, bigger fuel tank, led headlight and rear light, matching 12" rim size.
    I understand that the price would go up but it would be worth it. Right now it's just better than a 50cc scooter and it's a good thing it's less money than a Ruckus.
    I'm going to buy an other Grom this summer, seems to be the better Minimoto for the money right now

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I've touched on the rear rack issues a few times. The mounts aren't triangulated or reinforced, so it's very flimsy and bounces around a lot. The parcel shelf is barely the size of my gloved hand, so it's also useless. I'm planning to fabricate a beefier rack with a lower/rear support bar that ties back to the upper shock mount... that should allow it to carry 20 lbs without snapping like a toothpick.
      I think Honda should have at least paired the Navi's frame with a newer 110cc fuel-injected engine. Better yet... they could (should) have imported the Zoomer-X 110 scooter from Mexico which uses a newer air-cooled, fuel-injected engine which is also from the later model Activa scooter. The Zoomer looks like a butched-up Ruckus with inverted front forks. I'd buy one in a heartbeat! 😉👍 --QM

    No ABS but the brakes are linked-how bad are those brakes-it's the only thing that scares me about the Navi. Honda scooters are ugly, Navi looks better.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  7 місяців тому +1

      The Navi has drum brakes front and rear, so it's not performance oriented. You'll need to grab a handful of the front brake lever and mash the rear brake pedal to stop quickly. Otherwise, they are sufficient for normal riding scenarios.
      I don't like the feel of CBS systems on mechanical (drum) brakes because it alters the brake lever feel depending on which brake cable is activated first. I'll probably disable the linked brakes and install a normal rear brake lever on the left handlebar like other scooters. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      @@johndefalque5061 Exactly... the brakes aren't a deal breaker at all. They are on par with any other scooter or older motorcycle with drum brakes, so there's no surprise or disappointment in my mind. The front brake lever feels strange when the CBS alters the pull/feel, but that's just a preference thing and doesn't affect operation. 😉👍 --QM

      The telemetry data for the HUD is recorded by my GoPro Hero11 camera (and my Garmin Zumo GPS when I'm riding with it). The gauge overlay is generated using a third-party program called Telemetry Overlay: goprotelemetryextractor.com/
      I stitch everything together with Adobe Premiere Pro to create the final videos. Creating the overlays is a lot of extra work, but I think the end results are worth the effort. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      No... we (or at least I) never went even 60 mph because the Navi can't get there! We didn't travel on I-10, but I did a 20-ish mile stretch on Hwy-290 during this trip. Most of the journey was on rural highways and FM roads.
