  • Back from my month long illness, we swing into the long awaited tuning video.
    ---------------------------
    I tried to make this video as a direct example of what TO DO when tuning a carburetor. On this bike it's pretty easy. I wanted this video to be as short as it could be, but I would rather fully explain how a carburetor works than leave people in the dark. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below. THANK YOU GUYS!!!

    Just picked up my Navi earlier this week and have an air filter and exhaust to throw on after the break in period. Never worked with a carb before and didn't know where to start. Your video has been over-the-top helpful. Thank you for the in depth explanation. Excellent video.

      @@pookythomasmoto9147hey quick question, my Navi ran like a champ at sea level, bone stock engine. I just moved and now I’m at around 2500-3000ft elevation and it ran decent but I can feel a little less power and I can smell gas, smells kinda rich. What would you recommend me to do? Play with the mixture screw/welch or change the main jet?

    • @pookythomasmoto9147
      @pookythomasmoto9147  9 місяців тому +1

      So contrary to popular belief, when you add an aftermarket system they aren’t totally sealed. Even the hot lap and Yoshimura have slide on canisters that are held down with springs. This causes small air leaks that backpressure takes advantage of, and causes popping on decel. It shouldn’t be ridiculous, but here and there is healthy

    Guess I should have should have asked my EGR question here. I got the scooter swap shot EGR block off plate. I see on the lower left of the bike where to put the plate but then you have the tube wrapping around to the intake. After you put the block off plate on the lower left side what do you do with the open hose? Seal it off or something?

    • @pookythomasmoto9147
      @pookythomasmoto9147  3 місяці тому

      Yes. If you want a more efficient and trustworthy way to do it you can order rubber silicone plugs on amazon. Make sure you nail the inner diameter correctly. Measure the inner diameter of the hose and match it with a rubber block off on amazon.

      @@kyleagg78 I could do a video on it this summer. I have been wanting to do it but it doesn’t do much for the riding I do. I was interested in deleting it, super simple. Another reason is the EGR filter box is supporting my denali soundbomb compressor so I wouldn’t be able to fully delete the EGR

    Couldn't you also run the bike with the petcock turned off until the carb is empty?

    • @pookythomasmoto9147
      @pookythomasmoto9147  2 місяці тому

      You could. Unfortunately not all the gas will burn/push through. It also takes longer. So either way you will have to empty the float bowl because of the vacuum.

    On the bar end mirrors did you had to drill it out any for them to fit? I got protaper bars and the hole is too small for the mirror. If the renthal doesnt need drilling or those mirrors have smaller posts i might have to get them.

    • @pookythomasmoto9147
      @pookythomasmoto9147  3 місяці тому

      Renthal did not have to be drilled. Pro taper bars are not meant for mirrors. The bars you get for the navi are meant for pitbikes, and those don’t have mirrors. The bar ends are generic black ones off amazon with a hex on the end to expand the internal bore. That being said, I have purchased renthal bars all my life and have yet to bend a single one

    • @kyleagg78
      @kyleagg78 3 місяці тому

      @@pookythomasmoto9147 Thanks!!! Completely new to this and just kept hearing ProTaper ProTaper Protaper so i went with that. Was never really concerned about bending so Renthal seems the way to go to get the look i want. Ill be using this video this weekend to do the carb.

    Small comment here for those of us running the Polini CP carburetor; lowering the engine down via disconnecting the rear suspension is completely unnecessary as you can swap jets out in literally just a minute or so. Not so much with the stock carburetor because of how it mounts to the intake manifold.
