Hi! Vicky, I came across your uTube video and I really enjoyed it . I have recently taken up sketching and journalling , I joined SketchBook Skool and think that Danny Gregory is great as are the other artists/teachers on there. I am learning so much . I too am a carer and do not get a lot of time to myself but I am sure that reading Dannys books will inspire me just as you have done here I will try harder to make time for myself. I will watch the rest of your youTube videos over the coming days/weeks (I see there are a lot). I wanted to keep up my painting (oils) but due to what is going on in my life Sketch book journaling/drawing etc suits me better as of course does water colours which I am teaching myself with the help of online courses.. I will look you up on pinterest, which by the way I love. Thank you for sharing this with us. I am going to buy a couple of Danny's book and one will be A kiss before you go. and the other An Illustrated Life. I guess I am going to find it hard to stop there but for now anyway two will have to suffice. Keep well, your lovely personality shines out from the screen. Cheers,
Isabel (I live in Melbourne Australia) and it has been the coldest winter for many years, cannot wait for the Spring/Summer to come so I can do some outdoor sketching.

Aloha Vicky! As I watch more and more of your videos I find that we have so much in common. Like I'm a creeper about journals and watching endless videos of journal flip throughs, too. It fascinates me to see what people write about, what they feel compelled not to ever forget. I can't pass a blank journal section without buying one. And.....I was completely taken by complete surprise when you held up the book; "The Creative License"! It was like lightning struck me and jolted me up out of my office chair and I practically ran to my one of my overflowing bookshelves and grabbed my copy! I bought that book too many years ago and forgot I owned it. Thank you for reminding me of it and I really relished in flipping through the pages as you were leafing through it in your wonderful video! Mahalo ("Thank you" in Hawaiian) for being an inspiration and sharing your wealth of knowledge in journaling and being an artist-be it in writing or drawing or even both but especially in living.

I have to say first of all ALOHA!! I LOVE Hawaii!! Living there you must have so so many things to take pictures of and draw and doodle endlessly!! Thank you so much for all your kind words!! This is why I love doing videos because I make friends from all over the world and we can share in our crazy obsessions!! haahah Mahalo for watching my videos!! xoxo

Love watching your videos and seeing someone who has a love of journals like me! :) I am not an "artist" but I do love the idea of incorporating drawing into my journals. So you inspired me to give it a whirl and practice away. Thank you!! P.S. I love journal flip-through videos as well. You do a great job of holding yours up long enough for us to see, and I appreciate hearing your thought process.

Thank you so much for your very kind words. You inspire me to continue the flip throughs as well as sharing with all of you! I only do it to hear that I inspire at least one person out there!!
Thank you so much and I'm glad we found each other!!
      xoxo

Your drawing are really lovely. That's one thing I really wish I could do. I'm snickering at the Al Bundy thing. My hubby dies it too! You've inspired me to journal a little bit which is something I've never done, but it forces me to take a minute to reflect which I'm enjoying. Thanks!

for me doodling is my first step, just a doodle a day and I will delve deeper into art. As a 24/7 caregiver for my husband with multiple terminal health issues, I do not have much time, and the doodling actually makes me feel as though I have created a masterpiece, well, it is to me... and that really is the point. Great video intro to an artist I was not familiar with...

Thank you so much for sharing and I think you are amazing for being a caregiver and finding the time to doodle. I do think it really is fantastic for the soul!!

Haha that gesture of your husband...totally the usual sleeping mode of men. :D Mine's doing this as well...hilarious! I definitely will check out those books as they seem really motivating amd life-affirming. I am also trying to get into daily Art Journaling with my Midori so hope this will guide me to get used to it more and more. Greets from Germany. Sonja

Fantastic video! I love Danny Gregory too! Did you know he hosts Sketchbook Skool? He and several other artists teach on line. I took the first class and the 2nd session starts July 4th. It's a lot of fun !! Love all your journaling vids, you are very inspiring!!!

I was thinking about taking the first class. Do you feel you got your money's worth? I've got two kids in college so money is a bit tight.

I took Semester one--beginners, and am doing Semester two--Seeing. You get one teacher per week, so you get a chance to see a variety of working styles. I have followed most of the artists for years and have journaled for almost 20 years, I think it's a great class particularly for begginers but more advanced artists can get alot from it as well! Hope to see you in Klass!!

To an Artis no matter what he/she dose..it's being present in the moment....present in life..the here and right now...to capture that moment...like a camera captures a moment in time....learning to be present in time is an art form on its own!....( learning this art can almost stop time) it's poweful!!!....searching and getting inspiration from many places is important BUT most important is to inspire yourself ( it's a choice).....I always get asked who inspires you ...that I can't share for everyone's walk is there own I don't want to influence anyone to look at an area were they would be lost ( not their time to be there) when I say your journal your way!.....I'm saying be present in your own life record that moment for it will be gone and a new one will present itself....play begets play...search and you will find..In your time not mine....I'm sure you understand this.......it's being awake!...lol that was deep!!...enjoy your book it's a good one!

And your husband sleeping cracked me up...a swear guys can't sleep without that hand in the pants! Maybe the elastic holds the arm up. ha ha.. LOL TFS

I am glad I'm not the only one who is obsessed with journals and note books!! :D I love flip throughs too.
I love coming on to you tube to watch videos to chill out after work. I find your videos so relaxing I love listening to you talk. I have to admit I've fallen asleep a couple of times but not through Boredom but through finding your videos relaxing! I suffer with anxiety and not much makes me relax. You seem like a calming person! I love your enthusiasm for things and your drawings are brilliant. Thanks for sharing x

Love your videos Vicky! I totally love this idea and ordered the book too :). I had some of those small faux hobonichi books for a while now. Will definately try this out. I've been wanting to sketch more also. PS: I think all men sleep with hands in the pants. My hubby does too. LOL

Oh Vicky. I'm so glad I found your videos. Finally someone who has the same journal obsession as I do! I was looking at those small miguelrius journals on Amazon last night. I was wondering if they were about the same size as the small a6 hobo and it looks like it might be. I have no idea what compels me to buy journals all the time. I have a stack of them that I haven't even used yet but I love looking at them on my bookshelf. I'm going to see if my library has that book. It looks amazing! TFS:)

I have an A6 book called One Sketch A Day, 2 days on a page. I got really into it but stopped when I moved house. I just found it again the other day, might have to reinstate it.

Loved your video! I've been a Danny Gregory fan for awhile. Have you seen his An "Illustrated Journey"? The tag line on the book is: Inspiration from the Private Art Journals of Traveling Artists, Illustrators and Designers. Amazing book!
I too am a sketchbook/journal junkie. I understand your sickness! Ha!

I posted a half of month flip through of my fauxbonichi if you'd like to take a look. I'm having so much fun with it.

Yes!! I plan on going back!! I don't always have the time to get the colors on the page but yes I like to go back when my baby goes to sleep and color them in!
