Finnick gave us one hell of a badass scene and final fight that it made his death so heartbreaking because he was so close and so badass. But again this is war and war never changes. Plus yes this is a movie and all thought out and scripted and acted, But its portraying a human story and where there are humans there is human error. Panic. Fear. Hesitation. too slow ect ect. So that could be an excuse for the solutions that coulda stopped his death.

In the book Finnick was pretty much unconscious which was why he couldn't get in the water himself. Finnick had the most blisters of all of them so they also had to very slowly ease him into the water because the sheer pain could've killed him

She nearly died countless times in that arena, whether from the acid fog, or monkey mutts, nearly drowning when the clock was spun, or getting hit by lightning. At least in my opinion, I thought that the only reasons why she didn’t die from these were her survivalist nature, aid and often sacrifices from other ally tributes, and overall plot armor. Well, that and Plutarch trying to save her while also looking like he’s trying to kill her, which is a very difficult line to tread

it is not true. It is mentioned in the books, that it took years to build arenas, so this arena was planned long before Katniss won her Games. Also the Fog stopped because it was the end of their segment. The arena is a clock with 12 different places, if you go to another timezone, the thread from the zone before doesnt follow (except the Birds because it is part of their terror) thats the reason why the monkey where there few seconds later. It was there time in that zone.
It’s been forever since I last read the books, but if I remember correctly, Katniss and Peeta actually get an ointment for their wounds from the fog, and the ointment changed the color of their skin, I think it was green??? - anyways, Katniss and Peeta scare the hell out of Finnick and actually share a laugh about it. I was really hoping for that scene in the movies, because even though everything is dark around them, that type of laughter isn’t a sign of denial but a real build of connection between the characters.

Rewatching the hunger games as an adult hits different. Somehow the hunger games feel more tragic and cruel. Mags was truely a kind, loving and smart soul. She made a fast decision for the wellbeing of the group. I don't think she could have outrun it by herself like some here have suggested. And Finnick or the group would have died saving her at some point if she didn't make the decision. Still very sad though.
My parents and I have been rewatching the movies when I go to their house, and I agree. Its different now than it was then, I was only 13 when the first movie came out.
That fog isn’t so bad…so long as you can get away from it. Those blisters dissipate with water so I suppose they either were banking on the tributes not realizing that or getting caught in it entirely and dying before they could get to a source of water.
The fact they put a pond right next to the exit the zone makes me think they were expecting the tribute to use it. Remember, the game makers aren’t necessarily trying to kill the tributes, they’re just trying to force them into confrontations with other tributes. The fog isn’t meant to kill, it’s meant to force the tributes to move, so it makes sense the cure to the poison lies just outside the poisons reach.

If you're solo and you end up sleeping in that area the fog would just kill you and there's nothing you could do about it though. An even worse trap was the tidal wave since it's similar in concept but far more deadly. There are two priorities in the games, one is forcing the districts to kill each other and the other is pure entertainment value. The difference in this game is that they were also sending a message to all of the previous winners which I think is part of why they made this game more deadly.

Katniss was supposed to be pregnant. I think in the books Finnick even coached her how to act like pregnant lady. And she was also wounded. Those two could help carry Peta.
In the books it's a lot more clear that she's used to fog cause she thinks it rained in another area and it's a very warm/humid arena. But yeah seeing it in a movie is obvious "OMG girl run"
I would love a Hunger Games prequel series on like amazon or something where in season 1 we get to see Mags season 2 we get to see Haymitch and season 3 we get to see Finnick.
It would make a great Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes sequel. Lucy’s was the 10th Hunger Games and Mags was the 11th, so they can cast the same actors and show us how Snow really starts to come to power.
Mags was the very first winner to be paraded around the Capitol. Before, the winners just returned to their lives, but Mags had to keep serving and became the first Tribute Mentor.

The cannon sounded approximately four seconds after, so yeah I think it was pretty quick. Plus, with that sort of thing, the fog acting like fire, her nerve endings would have been fried instantly. She barely felt a thing.
Because not everyone has the same culture. Many people don't sexualise kissing on the lips or at least can clearly draw the line between a romantic kiss and other kisses.
This scene was so tense and terrifying when I saw it in theaters and it still is! Just imagining yourself in that situation, running for your life while extremely painful and dangerous fog is trailing right behind you. You trip once and you’re dying an excruciatingly painful death. I read the book before seeing the movie, so I knew what would happen, but it is still very tense and you just want to scream at them to make it out fast enough. Always sad to see sweet Mags sacrificing herself for the group as well.
Poison fog is one threat, so is cancerous lungs. If they poured smoke into the arena or created a forest fire like they did in the first Hunger Games. It’s way more cinematic, and the whole point is to create a TV show. All in all, it would’ve been more beneficial to burn down some of the arena, instead of sending a poisonous fog into it.

Let us all appreciate this scene for showing how wrong Katniss was back when Haymitch showed her and Peeta the tributes. She said that Finnick wouldn’t protect Mags when it came down to it, not here, when they’re on the wire, inches away from death, in excruciating pain, *he won’t leave her.* Even when Peeta collapses, he doesn’t even consider leaving her to pick him up. Mags has to force him to save Peeta and leave her behind by walking into the fog herself. Katniss was *wrong.* She was so very, very wrong, and it both hurts me and warms my heart. Finnick knew that Mags didn’t stand a chance, but he fought for her until the end anyway, not because he thought he could save her, but because he loved her, and he was fighting for every last second together.
Hypothetically, do you think the fog would affect them if the group stayed under water the wholw time until the fog passed? I know that's not possible, I'm questioning the functions of the fog, not the survival of the group.

I don't remember the exact wording in the book, but to be fair, a lot of people and contestants couldn't know and predict the kinds of engineering and things the Capitol would have at store. The may have known some possibilities, but it would still be really hard to know exactly what effects something would have. No one would imagine a simple fog could be such a death sentence on contact. Also have to keep in mind (though more rare), that some things were meant to either help you and 'balance' the games, or provide some other unique event. You could run, but curiosity also killed the cat. Even in a death area, you'd want to be sure what you were dealing with
By how that fog is its similar to those of poisonous plants one touch and you'll be in a world of pain so this fog might be the same stuff as those plants but lot deadly its kinda cool

the order they run from the fog in the movie was the complete opposite in the book. katniss is basically dragging peeta's ass along from the start and finnick is leading the charge at a leisurely jog. and katniss does carry mags for a while and finnick carries peeta. also just realized the movie is missing the cannon blast when mags dies.
In the book, Peeta struggles because of his prosthetic leg. But he didn't loose his leg in the movies so why would he be last ? You could argue that he died and got resurrected the day before so it would make sense he would be last.
It was likely some kind of chemical that reacts with human skin in order to cause burns, but also easily breaks down in water. I don’t know if any such chemical exists in reality, but its good for a movie.

Peeta is anything but useless. He is literally the main reason Katniss survives most situations lol. Also he is supposed to have a leg missing which is why he’s a little weaker in the second movie
Katniss disappointed me in this scene. Finnick had saved Peeta and was an important member of their team and a good friend of Katniss. And when Maggs sacrifices herself, she only cares about saving Peeta and she doesn’t even care about how Finnick feels. He just tells him that they have to go so that she can make sure her Peeta can survive. In this scene, l only felt for Finnick. He must have been truly miserable, desperate and unhappy losing the most precious and meaningful person in his life while also suffering from terrible pain. He really wanted to save Maggs, and Katniss here and after they escape, barely cares about how her friend feels. And l am saying all that as someone who really likes Katniss as a character but sometimes can’t stand her selfish decisions. I know that she is a human being who in in pain, too but that isn’t an excuse to explain the “goodness” behind all of her actions.
Of course Katniss cares about mags, it just happens so fast that she barely understands what’s happening herself and they’re too busy running to process everything. She feels awful and gives finnick time to grieve and she apologises, what do you want her to do? 😭

The Arena is build up like a clock. So u have 12 different segments which all have their own traps. The effects of each trap occurs always at full hour the 12 they counted at the start stating it was 12 and that triggerd the events a few segments before them. The events can only happen in the segment and can't go over to other segments. They just happend to barley cross the border from the poison fog segment to the munching monkey segment so the fog is stopped by the border.

The cannon sounded approximately four seconds after, so yeah I think it was pretty quick. Plus, with that sort of thing, the fog acting like fire, her nerve endings would have been fried instantly. She barely felt a thing.

This scene was so tense and terrifying when I saw it in theaters and it still is! Just imagining yourself in that situation, running for your life while extremely painful and dangerous fog is trailing right behind you. You trip once and you’re dying an excruciatingly painful death. I read the book before seeing the movie, so I knew what would happen, but it is still very tense and you just want to scream at them to make it out fast enough. Always sad to see sweet Mags sacrificing herself for the group as well.
Poison fog is one threat, so is cancerous lungs. If they poured smoke into the arena or created a forest fire like they did in the first Hunger Games.
It’s way more cinematic, and the whole point is to create a TV show. All in all, it would’ve been more beneficial to burn down some of the arena, instead of sending a poisonous fog into it.
But the threat is supposed to be hourly so they need something they can do multiple times
The game makers can make more trees, we learn that in the film before

Let us all appreciate this scene for showing how wrong Katniss was back when Haymitch showed her and Peeta the tributes. She said that Finnick wouldn’t protect Mags when it came down to it, not here, when they’re on the wire, inches away from death, in excruciating pain, *he won’t leave her.* Even when Peeta collapses, he doesn’t even consider leaving her to pick him up. Mags has to force him to save Peeta and leave her behind by walking into the fog herself.
Katniss was *wrong.* She was so very, very wrong, and it both hurts me and warms my heart. Finnick knew that Mags didn’t stand a chance, but he fought for her until the end anyway, not because he thought he could save her, but because he loved her, and he was fighting for every last second together.

I don't remember the exact wording in the book, but to be fair, a lot of people and contestants couldn't know and predict the kinds of engineering and things the Capitol would have at store. The may have known some possibilities, but it would still be really hard to know exactly what effects something would have. No one would imagine a simple fog could be such a death sentence on contact.
Also have to keep in mind (though more rare), that some things were meant to either help you and 'balance' the games, or provide some other unique event. You could run, but curiosity also killed the cat. Even in a death area, you'd want to be sure what you were dealing with
It's more thrilling that way, since we instantly know what damage that fog could do.
By how that fog is its similar to those of poisonous plants one touch and you'll be in a world of pain so this fog might be the same stuff as those plants but lot deadly its kinda cool

the order they run from the fog in the movie was the complete opposite in the book. katniss is basically dragging peeta's ass along from the start and finnick is leading the charge at a leisurely jog. and katniss does carry mags for a while and finnick carries peeta. also just realized the movie is missing the cannon blast when mags dies.
In the book, Peeta struggles because of his prosthetic leg. But he didn't loose his leg in the movies so why would he be last ? You could argue that he died and got resurrected the day before so it would make sense he would be last.

It was likely some kind of chemical that reacts with human skin in order to cause burns, but also easily breaks down in water. I don’t know if any such chemical exists in reality, but its good for a movie.

Peeta is useless
Peeta is anything but useless. He is literally the main reason Katniss survives most situations lol. Also he is supposed to have a leg missing which is why he’s a little weaker in the second movie
They made him weaker and dumb to empower catniss. Pretty common move by Hollywood.
Katniss disappointed me in this scene. Finnick had saved Peeta and was an important member of their team and a good friend of Katniss. And when Maggs sacrifices herself, she only cares about saving Peeta and she doesn’t even care about how Finnick feels. He just tells him that they have to go so that she can make sure her Peeta can survive. In this scene, l only felt for Finnick. He must have been truly miserable, desperate and unhappy losing the most precious and meaningful person in his life while also suffering from terrible pain. He really wanted to save Maggs, and Katniss here and after they escape, barely cares about how her friend feels. And l am saying all that as someone who really likes Katniss as a character but sometimes can’t stand her selfish decisions. I know that she is a human being who in in pain, too but that isn’t an excuse to explain the “goodness” behind all of her actions.
Of course Katniss cares about mags, it just happens so fast that she barely understands what’s happening herself and they’re too busy running to process everything. She feels awful and gives finnick time to grieve and she apologises, what do you want her to do? 😭
So what is she supposed to do, stay in the poisonous fog? It was coming towards them and her instinct was one: R U N.

But it is just the fact that she would do anything to keep Peeta alive, even by putting other people in danger. But she wouldn’t let Finnick do the same thing.

The Arena is build up like a clock. So u have 12 different segments which all have their own traps. The effects of each trap occurs always at full hour the 12 they counted at the start stating it was 12 and that triggerd the events a few segments before them.
The events can only happen in the segment and can't go over to other segments. They just happend to barley cross the border from the poison fog segment to the munching monkey segment so the fog is stopped by the border.
