    Plutarch is probably the most important piece of the rebellion. He knows all along that Katniss will eventually turn on coin which is exactly what he wants. He knows that coin is corrupt just like snow but that he has to work with her for the rebellion.

    I think it was phenomenal for Plutarch to believe in the cause of revolution from the beginning because he lived in the Capitol and was a game maker. All he had to do was to stay out of the conflict and continued his luxurious life. But there he was, doing everything he could to make this revolution work and he did. I think he was really good at observing people. He knew Katniss really well but also Coin. He wasn't surprised at all when Katniss killed Coin, like it was part of his plan all along.

    • @dangerislander

      I love how he acknowledged at the end to Katniss that despite the war being over, and that they'll enter that sweet period of never repeating what happened ever again, yet humans are fickle and have a gift for self-destruction. It's fuck me - it's exactly what's happening now in the real world. Especially in Europe.

    Theory: Plutarch's parents are Hilarious Heavensbee and Lysistrata Vickers from TBOSBAS
    They both mentored tributes in the 10th hunger games, Lysistrata always felt sympathy for the tributes especially after Jessup jumped in to protect her from the arena explosion, she also hated having to watch the tributes killing eachother
    Her sympathy for the district's could've influenced Plutarchs decision to side with them in the 2nd rebellion

    I think people are going too far in saying Plutarch is a "good man", he literally helped Coin kill a bunch of children. I'd say he was an opportunist who wanted power, which is why he helped the rebellion and in the end he to rewarded by becoming an important figure in politics. If he sided with the Capitol, then he'd likely just be a games runner and likely wouldn't move up the social latter as much as he could. He's more like Snow, he helps kill children as a means to an end. He's not going to get behind more killing children in a second hunger games since it doesn't really benefit him or society. He makes no moves to remove Coin even though it's very obvious she'd be a cruel leader like Snow. If he really did care about the well-being of all people he would have a better leader to replace Coin. He's not a good man, he's an amoral man. He will back whichever leader he can maintain the most power under.

      While I feel you make a compelling point and to an extent I agree with you, the fact that when Katniss put shot the arrow into Coin instead of Snow was “no shocker” to Plutarch, I’d wager he knew good and well Katniss would taken Coin down eventually the same as she brought Snow down.
      And considering his disdain for such things like the Hunger Games, I have my doubts he was in on the plan to bomb the children.
      Regardless, I won’t deny he seems the type to back whoever can advance his standing, no doubt he has his limits on what he’ll allow in who he backs. After all, if he purely wanted power and station over all else, why not keep playing Snow like a fiddle to his advantage to keep himself as Snow’s right hand man and sell out the rebellion?

    • @hiitsnana
      @hiitsnana 6 місяців тому +6

      @@emperorrevan6992also i would actually argue that he DID have a back up. i really do think he wanted paylor to be elected all along, the way he phrased the letter saying he wasn’t surprised at all that katniss would shot coin, proved for me that he was just using coin like he did with snow. he knew he needed her and 13 just like he needed katniss to make a revolution. but he never wanted coin to end up being president. another thing that hints that plutarch always wanted someone like paylor for president is that we see him on screen when she is elected showing that he is in on her party. and haymitch even ironically says sth like „ and they say nobody ever wins“ because plutarch actually won. he played them all. and ended up with the result he wanted. if he was so cruel i don’t think he would have rooted for someone like paylor to be president. who immediately abolished the hunger games, destroyed the arenas and set up memories for the fallen tributes. i think he would have ended up with way more power if he stayed with snow or coin since he worked so close to both of them and could manipulate them form the shadows, to achieve the results he wanted.

    • @lawrencehu7654
      @lawrencehu7654 6 місяців тому +1

      @hiitsnana You don’t have more power under a dictator like snow or coin, because they can just axe you at any time for any reason (including something silly like rampant paranoia). Plutarch wants the absolute freedom to pursue his goals (whatever they are, I’m not entirely sure), and overthrowing the dictatorship is the only way to obtain something close to that. And another nice upside is that if you commit horrible crimes and get caught for it under a democracy, the worst you suffer (usually) is prison for life. And in the movies, he also cares at least somewhat for the well-being of others, but even then he’s not the type to sacrifice himself for the cause. But book Plutarch is as self-interested as they come.

    Plutarch reminds very much of Pericles, Master of Propaganda and a great Orator also having perfect knowledge of in politics and an important part of Athens like Plutarch was to Panem.

    I’m actually a big huge fan of the hunger games it’s actually one of my favourite novels and I actually read the books differently because even though the books are printed in ordinary print they’re also in braille for anyone that’s blind or visually impaired so that’s how I read the books and I also read them as audiobooks as well

    Plutarch Heavensbee is the ultimate Gamemaker.
    He tricked both Presdient Snow and President Coin into playing his own end game, and they played along like mere tributes.

    Just finished a HG movie marathon over the weekend and I finished this time around having a different perspective of Plutarch. I wondered like many others after watching BSOAS, how exactly a Capitol old money Heavensbee like him ended up wanting change? While he was all in for a noble cause, at the end of the day, he is a game maker. He was willing to sacrifice who were likely old friends (the victors) to give him the outcome he wants. He had a play in innocent civilians dying. He put a 16 year old girl through hell and said he’d do it all over again for the same outcome. A few things I’ve read on him since going down this Plutarch rabbit hole:
    1. I caught little details in the movie I didn’t notice before… like how he knew Coin’s speeches so he probably wrote them (because he is an expert at propaganda). I read a fan theory that perhaps Plutarch wrote Coin’s “may your aim be as true as your heart is pure” as a way to get katniss to shoot at Coin instead of Snow.
    2. Suzanne Collins had said in an interview that Plutarch has seen his colleagues such as Seneca Crane die, and he wonders when the mad king (Snow) will decide he’s next. This is a brilliant assessment of Plutarch imo.
    3. read another theory maybe it was Plutarch’s idea to have Coin suggest another HG and have Katniss realize she was a danger to Panem. We know that Plutarch played Snow like a fiddle… possible he could have done that to Coin too.
    4. Forgot who but someone said about Plutarch “and there’s Plutarch in the middle of it all” “And they say no one ever wins the games.” He really seems to be the only one who “won” the games. I do wonder what the psychological effects of these games/war were on him, but he seems pretty desensitized to death and violence if he’s so willing to sacrifice so many people for the outcome he wants.

    I still remeber the day i watch the hunger games on thankgiving of 2012 after one of my friends had already read the book and said it was amazing. After watching i read the trilogy and realized prims death was caused by the rebellion and was deeply saddened by this. Its understandable to save the nation but terrible for katniss. Anyone who had anything to do with that bombing is still a terrible person to me. The person that was the key to the rebellion lost everything. Her lover, her sister, all of her friends.
