Having a emploer/interviewer who's not a jackass helps as well. Had an amazing hour long interview yesterday, which flew by like it was 10 minutes. Got an official offer 4 hours later. Graduated 11 months ago, no work experience in my field so far, but they were (two co-founders of the company interviewed me) were so open to listenning to everything I had to say, that they didn't even mind me stopping the mid-sentance to ask a question or make my own observation - in fact, they even liked it. I really was a conversation rather than an interview. Although, I'd never really encourage somone to stop their potential employer mid-sentance, nor would I do it ever again :D but they actually made me so relaxed that I felt like I was talking to a couple of people I've worked with for years already.
+filips989 congralutations. thats really impressive, offered after four hours. just wanted to ask a quick question--hope you dont mind i usually have issue with. what do you know about the company?? what did you say?? 1)no experience--that might look negative --how did u address that? 2)no experience again--personally i was asked, did u not get any experience during your studies--usually part of the course. so why not??? 3) it has been a while since you have graduated--so what have you been doing all this time?? apart from looking for jobs
Rani Gautam Well I couldn't know anything about the company since I was 1 of 2 first employees there, it was a new company. Experience-wise, I have adegree in mechanical engineering and I've completed a course for a CNC operator (the job was for a CNC operator/programmer) so I had a bit of experience through the course and enough theoretical knowledge. Also, I have worked after graduation, but not in my field. But I'm not working in that company anymore. It turned out to be that the owners thought we could be friends and that I would have no problem working 12 hours every day (weekends included) withouth getting paid (instead of getting payed for overtime, we used to get a nice "thanks" from them). After three months there I had a month and a half in overtime, was free 3 or 4 days a month and worked 12-16 hours, with a few exceptions of 10 hours shifts.
Definitely be honest! Let them know that when you fill out the application you were looking to work during the summer and that was your schedule. If you go to an interview make sure you clarify that point seeing that it is near the end of summer and once school starts back up your schedule will be different.
I don't know how many times I have heard that I'm, "overqualified". Thanks for bringing that up! I'm sure in this economy, it's a concern that many have/have experienced.
Ok, that is one of those questions that puts you on the spot and usually leaves the unprepared speechless. You are ahead of the game if you are preparing for these higher level questions. Being effective is about doing the right things, while being efficient is about doing the things in the right manner. So...just getting the job done is what most people do...Being efficient is working smarter, faster, altering to improve time/performance. Overachievers always aim for efficiency.
Sometimes candidates are required to demonstrate their knowledge. They are given a problem the solution of which they have to present before the panel. This is a great opportunity to shine.
Yea, I used to be nervous giving interviews. Like, I was scared to just meet the person and have a good conversation. Make sure I'm throwing out all the right questions. Etc
To the question of “aren’t you overqualified” you can’t possibly give a good response UNLESS you know what is behind the question. Is it money? Will you be bored? Etc. So 1st you need find out what drives the question. Once you know the answer you can deal with it. I am teaching my clients to go through a 4 step system how to answer to any perceived liability questions. I LOVED the initial smile!
My third Job Interview is at Tuesday @ 2:30pm. I failed the last two because of how nervous I get! Gotta shave, gotta relax, and gotta be confident. Wish me luck!
This clip definitely helped me out as far how to approach the interviewer and be calm above all. Not to be so adamant about wanting a job even when you're at your toughest time. I'll be watching these clips more often.
Hi Maggie, Great tips and great smile making this video. I'm told i'm a great worker but bad at interviews. I researched the company i applied for by visiting the website and the office building before my interview. I was able to get my nerves out on the first visit non-appointment date. Results: I felt confident driving to my interview it felt more like driving to work that day. I aced my interview and now employed with a great company. Thank you for the video.
ohh thats Awesome.. I jst got mail from one of the job I applied for.. It says - Unfortunately, you have not been selected to proceed to the next stage of our recruitment process this time.
It really does sound like you did. But you can call to thank them for taking the time to interview you. See if that opens up anymore info. If not then ask outright and confirm.
I'm so nervous for my first job interview tomorrow. It's also more difficult for me since English is not my first language and I'm SO conscious about my pronunciation.
Great important points made here! Lots of applicants may not care if they are overqualified. The employer could end up with a great employee with lots of experience! Remember to smile and shake hands, both sides!
Job interviews have always been the toughest point with me. I know that I can be great with people but when I get asked certain questions, I tend to pause for quite a moment and I end up not being hired. I've only done two interviews and they both turned me down cause I either didn't have customer service skills or I didn't communicate well. It's going to be harder for me now cause I'm 16 weeks pregnant and I'm starting to show. I hope I can get a job soon because I do need some type of income to provide for a child. All I can do is try...
I am checking into doing some odd jobs until I graduate in April and then I will have more flexible hours to work with. I am 21 weeks pregnant and still feel that I wont get hired but in April I am going to hope for the best. I have high hopes for this employer, I been looking at and am positive that I will get the job then when I do graduate.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm currently looking after 2 years and It's always a refresher what to expect nowadays when the market is very competitive.
Any professionals here have tips on appropriately answering a question like "where do you see yourself in 5 years?". It's such a generic question for interviews, but it stumps me. I have a hard time answering it because I feel like it's a trick question of sorts (I'm one of those nervous test taker types who thinks every question is a trick question lol)
I find this is a very good answer: You know, I don't have a specific plan, but I do know that I want to stay in this field, doing work at increasing levels of responsibility and skill, in an environment where I feel like I'm playing a meaningful role. One of the reasons this position excites me is because I think it will move me in that direction.
So pull from your own personal work history to give a personal example. If you do not have a work history use personal experiences w/in your family or school where this would have applied esp. if you received a reward/award or recognition for it. Good luck! :)
If you got a feel from the owner when you picked up your application...then go with that. You obviously don't need a suit for this one. :) You are at an advantage b/c you did pick up the app. from the OWNER...so he saw you and already got an impression of you and he called you in. That is a good start. Good Luck! ;)
This is a tricky interview question something worth thinking about before hand. When an interviewer asks this ques. they're asking where you see yourself w.in a co. Be ambitious but realistic. If you are app. for a job in the mail room in a lg corp., don't say you are gong to be CEO in 5 years; but try to find out b4 your interview where a mail room clerk might be promoted to.
Interview tomorrow ): in 11 hours. I'm beyond nervous since my first one completely crumbled with how anxious & unprepared I was. I really hate having to do them because I've never liked attention on me much less gloating about myself. I wish they'd train/observed rather than interview you. Maybe then people would have more jobs they're really good at and love doing. (:
That's crazy I actually on my second interview, at the end of it she asked me "do you have any question" and I asked them how much you get paid. Oopss.
In addition, make sure that you point the obvious reasons why you are qualified for the position. Make sure you have great eye contact to convey confidence and comfort in speaking in public. Make sure that you speak in a clear and articulate way during the interview and a bit louder than for a normal position. HTH! :)
I have had many interviews and I can tell you being nervous is not your friends. obvious right? but the thing is it can be helped by changing your mindset. I focus on the current, I don't think of what I could do with this new job and the money I'm going to make, I think about being in the moment. also remember what you're good at, remember what make you confident. that helps you relax. well it does for me
She addressed so many things that I'm experiencing right now.........I just recently graduated from college, and I've been out of work for the last three months. I've been on several interviews and it just seems like employers are interested and then they decide on going with someone else. It is frustating and I'm trying to stay positive...but it is a challenge?!!! But this video does help a lil.
I have never been on a management interview in my life and perhaps for days to come, so I need to prepare myself enough to become influent when it happens!!
I have a job interview in a couple of hours, and man I'm stressed the hell out. As someone with a bad social anxiety problem, job interviews really gets the heart pumping.
I have my first job interview tomorrow at a company that helps people find jobs in my community so I'm not sure how to go about this interview I'm going to carry some of these tips with me and just smile and be myself! I hope this works
Ok, don't be discouraged...Take the experience and the questions that were asked of you and store them in your brain. Practice answering them w/ a positive twist.
Passed my job interview. Well not really an interview more like a contract for the army. Go to basic training on July 27 for 9 months. yay that should be fun. Most of the interview question in this video were the questions they asked me. Well not all of them. Wish me luck
Just RELAX be SINCERE without making yourself look bad. SMILE and KNOD YES after the questions. Most of the time after this they will assist with their ideal answer.
