This is how it was back in the day, when the bodybuilders looked amazing, the GH+insulin wasnt in full effect (except for Dorian) bodybuilder suffered back then, not now where bodybuilders eat chipolte, and a gallon of ice cream, and then they wonder why they look pregnant. Again no one wants to suffer anymore.
There's still a lot of top guys eating extremely healthy diets, like chris tuttle and evan centopani. I just don't think it's emphasized as much as the old school guys did
I'm gonna have to agree I think eating habits have changed alot with bodybuilders. It's the eat big to get big mentality and "flexible" dieting. I think that accounts for alot of the distention. Even Arnold said back in his hay days he wasn't a very big eater, a 10 oz steak was plenty for him.
I went to one of Shawn's seminars in 1999 at the Ironman contest and he said he never had protein shakes, only real food and a multi vitamin. He didn't have any reason to lie since he didn't endorse any supplement companies. Of course he's on the juice, can't talk about that.
Shawn's and Nasser's diet plan was phenomenal.. both guys were strict with what they ate, and stuck with their plan. And that's why when they showed up on stage, you saw the difference.
Unpopular opinion in 2019.. Just because it fits your macros doesn’t make it right. There is still such a thing as quality of food you’re consuming. Don’t neglect your micronutrients.
I eat egg whites with little asparagus tips and some little chopped up red bell peppers mixed in. I use macadamia nut oil in the pan or grape seed oil. Everyone loves when I make it because it tastes so good. Its breakfast, but can also he eaten as a postworkout meal. Hope you enjoy it too.
Not true. I got into bodybuilding back in 93. We slammed down shakes like motherfuckers back then too. But we always know that real meals was where its at. So do the bodybuilders today. The only difference is we had just protein shakes and weighgainers and just a few brands. Now there are hundreds of different brands and the kids cont only drink protien but they drink bcaas's, preworkout, post workouts. Back then we didnt need a pre workout to get in the gym. Coffee would do on a real dragging day. Nowdays these kids wont even think about getting off thier phone and heading to the gym without pre workout.
Bro how u expect to get real food meals at work..sometimes u gotta do shakes when ur tryna get a meal in NOT during break hours...so if i go go work at 12 and dont get break till 6 or 7...u expect me to sneak a chicken and potatoe meal into the bathroom smh.. .protein shake, oatmeal, dab of macademia oil...shakes are for convenience
If you wonder why so many guys in the 90s were far more cut and the muscle was far higher quality. This is a big reason why. They really dieted and suffered. And they didn’t abuse Insulin the way guys do now.
@Blazerelf protein shake as it says is a meal replacement , when you can supply your body in protein from food then its not necessary to use it. its probably cheaper and for sure healtier. sometime its saves me when im in trouble but its not every day food.
Its pretty hard life style. I think out of all sports bodybuilding is the most demanding and hardest sport ,because it domenates life even when u not training. Ist worthed???
Hard is almost a negative word. It'd be best to say body building is a challenging lifestyle, but if you're motivated and love the excitement of the gym and eating good is little to no problem for you then it's definitely worth it.
Listen very carefully what he said , he said he eats at te restaurant after training . Most of his meals he prepares them at home . Looks like u ain't been to America . Food is very cheap
I was gonna reply with and actual cost but then read the replies and don't wanna get involved lol. Around $1,100- $1,400.00 for me. Hope that helps you get an Idea.
This is why Shawn Ray is now healthy with no injuries while Ronnie is constantly fighting surgeries and daily pain. Fruits and veggies go a long way in the long run. Ronnie might have been the greatest but adding fruits and veggies in his diet might have saved him a lot of pain now. I'm gonna copy this diet for my cut.
Yes Ronnie had insane training. That is a factor. Branch Warren and Johnnie O Jackson has similar training methods and even train at the same gym as Ronnie. Branch has seemed to have more injuries than Johnnie though. Branch is not one for veggies either while I've seen Johnnie say he at least have sweet potatoes and green beans in his diet. Johnnie also looks better than Branch and he is older than him. Micro-nutrients from veggies seem to help the body recuperate over time.
Yeah I do pretty much the same when I diet. Fish, rice, vegs, fruits for the sugar craving. Did 14 weeks of that before the summer. I looked like son goku coming out of the hyperbolic timechamber.
That’s awesome. Like ray says , “calories in, calories out. So you better be training hard”. I feel like todays bodybuilders lack an open mind in regard to such a balanced yet efficient diet like this.
@ExclusiveLM u r right to some degree what you said is for a average joe not a pro bodybuilder, pros normally have low bf% and mass amounts of muscle so they burn up the already simple sugars by just walking around, at that lvl fats are timely eaten so that the body uses that fats that are eaten as energy n not stored
One thing a lot of people don’t notice is that he’s not mixing carbs and fats together.. It was either protein and carbs… Or proteins and fats… I don’t know if that was intentional, but that’s the way I like the diet to get in crazy shape (also with calories in, calories out)
# of Calories don't matter, consistent diet does, the mirror does, and your output in general. Example, how do you feel, what do you look like, etc... Being able to eat like this consistently will be the task. Then think about the 'other stuff'. It's all about what you need for said goal.
Fruit is a slow acting carbohydrate im afriad, with a low gi rating, and suprisingly blood sugar levels remain relatively stable while glucose has a high GI rating, try jellybeans or something for after a workout
@Blazerelf yes, if it comes to whey it is useful after training, thats what i use it for. like i said its usefull but not necessary. the thing you need most post workout is some quick sugar to replenish glycogen in exhausted muscles and stop their breakdown. i like the video itself , because is opposite to what most supplement ads say - use our product and get big, its so untrue, because food should be primary source of nutrients in our bodys. btw protein from egg whites digests pretty fast.
@pete6891 well about white egg thats true, but sinse he eats just 2 eggs i can tell he does not use it for that, but yeah i guess its cool and better a diet without supps, but id guess is way more expensive
all of his portions are relatively small compared to what modern bodybuilders do.. i know some amateur bodybuilders that eat 20-30 egg white omelettes etc. of course I'm not saying that to prove that bodybuilding has improved, on the other hand I'm saying this so can people realize that over stuffing your self with protein isn't necessary. Look at this guy, one of the best bodybuilders of all time, and a very modest protein consumption.. most likely he WILL live some years more than most bbs
The guys in the 90's used much less insulin and many of them didn't use it, like Shaw ray said in a interview that he didn't use it, cuz although it could make he bigger it would make he lose quality, that's why in the 90's we had much less bubble guts... Guys used testosterone based steroids and maybe some GH.
@zume2600 actually many are but you need to be careful. Not all fruits are good post workout sugars. Some are composed of mostly fructose which DOESN'T replenish glycogen stores efficiently. Post workout you need 2 things asap. Glucose and protein. Glucose replenishes lost glycogen stores rapidly. Eating fruits higher in fructose is arguably worse than taking no sugar at all.
@steveotheprophet fruit is one of the best fast acting carbs that you can ingest right after a workout. he said he eats it after his workout. keep eating fruit people!
Dont try this at home. No matter how healthy all those mealsa re. Its extreme calorie overload. Youd get fat as fuck. You need to be on a heavy stack of roids to burn all that shit off. 45 minutes a day of curling, benching and tricep kickbacks wil do almost nothing as far as burning that off. You need the roids to make that happen.
He just consumed organic carbs, like sweet potatoes and I assume yam and regular potatoes, also complex carbs of course. It's a good thing he doesn't consume refined carbs as a guy who has high blood sugar levels such as me.
@sirliftsalot9246 fruit sugars is different from tht other shit, its pretty damn good after a workout, acting as a catalyst to deliver nutrients to ur muscles
This generation of bodybuilders have zero discipline unlike back in the 80's and 90's... I see them nowadays eating; Pizza, Burgers, KFC, smoking marijuana, and all kinds of crap... It's a Godforsaken travesty!
